CARIAN -- Judith. On April 1, 2010, Judith Carian went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Judy was born August 21, 1940 and loved to bless all with her love, generosity, and cooking. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Jacob Carian; and her son, Peter, and survived by her daughter Amanda (Carian) Nordhues; daughter-in-law Arlene Carian; and sisters, Arlene Walczak and Anita Hoover. She is also survived by her step-children whom she loved as her own-Elizabeth, Heidi, Armand, Jacqueline, Michael, Samuel, Gregory, Christopher, and Andrew; and by 33 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. CHAVEZ -- Lenave "Lina", age 72, a resident of Los Lunas, NM and formerly of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010. He was the Community Center Director for Santa Barbara Martinez Town in the 1970's. Lina was also instrumental in raising money for the Santa Barbara Martinez Town Community Park, where a plaque was placed in his honor. He owned and operated Polly's Cafeteria in Albuquerque along with his wife, Maryann. Lina enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salomon and Nora Lucero, Chavez; one brother, Gene Chavez and two sisters, Lucy Gonzalez and Virginia Gutierrez. Lina is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maryann Baca, Chavez; children, Margie Romero, Anthony Chavez and wife, Luz, Gloria Alires and husband, Salomon, Christine Montoya, Marie Stewart and husband, Tom and Joe R. Chavez and his siblings, Gloria Lucero, Andy Chavez and wife, Yvonne and Ernestine and husband, Leroy. He is also survived by 15 loving grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. COX -- Ivan "Ike" Samuel Cox, age 63, a beloved son and brother, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010. He was born on April 13, 1946 and was a life long resident of Albuquerque. Ivan served our country in the United States Army in Viet Nam. He was preceded in death by his father David Allen Cox. Ivan is survived by his loving mother, Juanita V. Cox; brothers, Robert W. Cox, A. Bruce Cox; sisters, Ellen Apodaca and husband Ramon and Alice Lujan; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Ivan will be greatly missed by all. GALLEGOS -- Higinio J. (Gene) Gallegos, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Celia Gallegos; his sister, Santos Baca; his brother, Frank Gallegos; and his son, James Gallegos. He is survived by his wife, Flora; his children, Mary Ann Duffy and husband, James, June Tafoya and husbad, Isaac, Stella Vallejos and husband, Bartolo, Arthur Gallegos, Virginia Gallegos, Patricia Sanchez and husband, Billy, Angelo Gallegos and wife, Beatrice, Manuel Gallegos and wife, Dianna. Higinio is also survived by his sisters, Tillie Martinez, Priscilla Duran and husband, Bernave; and brother, Joe Gallegos and wife, Donnie, along with numeorus nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family. Higinio was a proud Combat Veteran of World War II (Asiatic-Pacific Theater - Luzon and Phillipine Liberation) in the US Army (Staff Sergeant). He retired from the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque. He was a lifelong member in various veteran organizations. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a caring brother, an inspirational father, and an unconditional loving grandfather. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening, April 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 820 Broadway Blvd SE. GOWANS -- Charolette Gowans age 92, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Felicita (Quintana) Trujillo; husband David Gowans; three brothers, Juan Jose, Armenio and Lorenzo Trujillo and three sisters, Maxine Montano, Sally Ortega, and Margaret Espinoza. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. She served as an army nurse and pilot and served in WWII. She was one of the first certified nurses in anesthetist, and traveled world wide. KINNEY -- Forest "Tom" Kinney, 86, a long time resident of Albuquerque, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 3, 2010. Tom was born on April 5, 1923 in Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Opal Kinney; and three brothers. Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; daughters, Pamela Reed and husband Earl and their sons, Thomas and Timothy; and Carol Cunningham and husband John and their daughter Stephanie all of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews and cousins all from Michigan. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend; he will be missed by all his family and many friends. Tom was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Tom retired after 21 years at UNM Children's Psychiatry Hospital and other departments. He enjoyed working on family genealogy, enjoying his grandkids, and being a greeter at Sandia Baptist Church for many years. His family wants to thank Hospice of the Sandias for all the love and wonderful care they gave to Tom and his family. MALDONADO -- Rita T. Maldonado passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in Albuquerque at the age of 89. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Maldonado was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Gonzales. MCCOLLUM -- Arabella Myrene McCollum (Mimi) went home on a beautiful sunny Tuesday Morning. She was born to Grover Cleveland and Vicey Ann Duke on September 25, 1914 in Bryceland, Louisiana. She passed surrounded by her family on March 30, 2010. She was raised in Texarkana, Texas, a proud graduate of Texas high school and Texarkana College. On June 15, 1932 at the age of seventeen she married the love of her life Marion Dale McCollum and started on a fifty four year journey together. They lived and worked in El Paso, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Dallas, Texas and finally Albuquerque, NM in 1939. During WWII she managed Duke's garage across the street from the Hilton Hotel. She owned and managed the Queens Point Manor and the Don Quixote Apartments. She was one of the founders and board member of The Apartment Association of New Mexico. Myrene was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and joined Central United Methodist Church in the 1940's. Myrene belonged to the Hope Circle of the United Methodist women. She was preceded in death by her husband Marion Dale; son, James Baron; grandson, Richard Miller; sisters, Sarah Dickens Roberts, and Lolita Connell Mills; and her son-in-law, George Bujol. She is survived by her sister, Maxine Metz; daughter, Marian Miller and husband, Jack; daughter, Diane Bujol; son, Michael McCollum all of Albuquerque; son, Tommy McCollum and wife, Barbara; son, John McCollum and wife, Carala both of Ridgecrest, California; grandchildren, Steve Miller, Kristi Tinker, Renee Bujol, Tara Noonan, Travis McCollum, Tiffany Tesinsky, Bryan McCollum, Elissa Sorenson and Cameron McCollum; 11 great-grandchildren; and cousin, Gloria Fryar and husband, Kenneth of Minden, Louisiana. In addition she is survived by nieces and nephews, Lois Turner, Rita Westbrook, Patty Wilson, Bud Connell, Susie Brown, Vicky Speck, David Metz; and numerous great-nieces and nephews who love her dearly. Myrene is also survived by Charlie Burwinkle, a dear friend for over 45 years. She has six German Shepherds, two Jack Russells and a half Manx cat named Precious that consider her their Mimi. The family would like to thank all of Myrene's friends who helped care for her during her illness. In addition we thank the staff and caregiver's of Home Instead, who came into her life and treated her like a member of their own family. NELSON -- Albert Nelson, Jr. went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2010. Albert was a descendent of two prominent New Mexico families, the Nelson's and the Martinez's. He was born in Pintada, New Mexico to the home of Alberto C. and Isabel Martinez Nelson. Albert graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1952 where he was voted best dressed and best dancer in his class. He then made his residence in Albuquerque and worked with the New Mexico National Guard HQ Detachment NM National Guard, Bank of New Mexico, Zales, Hilton Diamond Jim's, Tiki Kai Bar and Restaurant. He was also a Maitre'D at the famous Lil's Restaurant in the former Amfac Hotel where he hobnobbed with movie stars and other aristocrats. He became know as "Al" as he enjoyed meeting and visiting with everyone he came in contact with. Among his many friends was Brother Mathias founder of the Brothers of the Good Shepherd where Albert enjoyed doing volunteer work. Albert was a devoted member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church where he was a member of the Choir. He also enjoyed attending the many Funciones at the small churches in Eastern New Mexico, including Pintada and Milagro. His three loves were his Mother Isabel, Aunt Preddie and his precious sister Emily. Albert will be missed by everyone especially his sister Emily who cared for him in his last years. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Benny Nelson and Joe Nelson; and his sister Clorie Nelson Baca; and sister-in-law Dolores Nelson. He is survived by his sister and care taker Emily Chavez and husband David of Albuquerque, Larry Nelson of Albuquerque and Margie Reardon and husband Joe of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Rosary services will be recited on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. at our Lady of Assumption Church with Father Gino Correra officiating. Private entombment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo Del Norte NE. Serving as Pallbearers will be Frances Baca, Antoinette Montgomery, Jim Stuterman, George Nielson, Mark Chavez, Matthew Chavez, Joe Nelson and Ben Nelson. SANCHEZ -- Tercila G. Sanchez, age 101, a resident of Valencia, NM, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Valencia. Tercila was a very devoted catholic and instilled a strong catholic faith in all her family. She was matriarch of 98 descendants. Tercila worked as a foster grandparent at Los Lunas Hospital and Training School for 25 outstanding years. She loved to sing hymns with her family. She was a great cook and made all the traditional Spanish dishes for family gatherings. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Anita Griego; husband, Alfredo Sanchez; son, Herman Sanchez, brothers, Salomon, Domis and Julian; sisters, Criselda, Rufina, Susie and Ofelia; son-in-law, Richard Martinez and daughters-in-law, Viola, Bertha, Christina and Rose. Tercila is survived by three sons, Emilio, Gilbert and Leo and wife, Demecia; two daughters, Elia Martinez and Martha Sedillo and husband, Telesfor; daughter-in-law, Mary Sanchez; two brothers, Ramon and Orlando Griego and one sister, Elvina Torres; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Peralta, on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 beginning with a visitation at 12:00 p.m., a rosary to be recited at 12:30 p.m. and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Valencia Catholic Cemetery. STIERS -- Verna E. Stiers, 81, resident of Billings, MT, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 after a short illness. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Donald Stiers; two loving daughters, Judy Gossett and husband, Russell of Albuquerque, and Shelley Pacheco and husband, Victor of Olympia, WA; two granddaughters, Whitney and Jessica Pacheco; and two great-grandsons, James and Jason Kirk. She was born to Rhea and Vernon Starkey of Lapeer, MI. Verna moved to Albuquerque in 1963 until moving to El Paso in 1976. She lived there until 1997 when she took up residence in Billings, Montana where she has been for the last 13 years besides spending the past two winters in New Mexico. SWYERS -- Columbina (Jovie) Swyers, 86, a resident of Albuquerque for over 56 years passed away on March 31, 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Constance Inayat and husband, Azim of Albuquerque, Kathleen Swyers of Sammamish, Washington, and Karen Willis and husband, J.R. of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Stephanie Willis and great - granddaughter, Morgan Jardine. She is also survived by her nephew, Brad Garten of Virginia; and nieces, Melissa Eskins and Dorris Pauley of Texas. Jovie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert (Bob) Swyers and most recently by her sister, Mary Louise Garten of South Charleston, West Virginia. She was born in Boomer, West Virginia on October 12, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Norma Dalporto. Jovie married Robert Carl Swyers on December 30, 1949 and made New Mexico home soon afterward. She retired from JC Penney after 25 years of service where she worked in the display department with her very best and inseparable friend, Estelle Radosevich. Jovie had many cherished friendships and she was renowned for her sending of greeting cards to those she loved. WOELFEL -- Courtney Marie Woelfel, 14, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on April 2, 2010. Courtney was born August 27, 1995 to Dwayne and Tammy Woelfel in Albuquerque, NM. She attended Eagle Ridge Middle School in Rio Rancho, NM and was a member of the Adaptive Ski Program. She was loved by many. Courtney is survived by her parents, Dwayne and Tammy Woelfel of Rio Rancho, NM; one brother Joshua Woelfel of Rio Rancho, NM; paternal grandmother Berta Woelfel of San Antonio, TX; maternal grandparents Ronald and Patricia Mehn of Loveland, CO. Preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Milton Woelfel. A Memorial Service will be held in the Sara Road Chapel 6:00 pm Tuesday, April 06, 2010 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, NM.
