LANE -- Virginia H. Lane quietly and peacefully slipped into her eternal rest on January 11, 2010. She was 94 years old. Virginia was born and raised in and about the Cincinnati, Ohio area. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Huxel. Mr. Huxel was a noted fire captain who invented and produced specialized fire fighting equipment. In her late teens, Virginia met and married Charles F. McGrath, and that marriage produced a daughter named Patricia. When the marriage didn't work out, Virginia set out on a career of her own in the highly competitive millinery industry, where she distinguished herself. In the course of her work she frequently traveled and worked the Northern and North-Eastern markets. On one of those assignments, she met Carra L. Lane, and soon they were married. Mr. Lane's work took him to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area where they were firmly affiliated with the Texas social scene. They had a fantastic circle of friends basically headquartered at the Ridglea Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas. Their New Year's Eve functions were those of legend. Virginia was an accomplished bridge player and erstwhile golfer. Her passion was volunteering at several of the local hospitals, and also the Girls' Service League of Ft. Worth where she served as President on two separate occasions. Virginia had a keen eye for fine fashions and great bargains. Whoever coined the phrase "Born to Shop" surely must have known her. The untimely death of her husband, Carra, and the advancing years soon made it clear that she needed some help in caring for herself, so Virginia opted to leave her beloved Dallas-Ft. Worth area and move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to live with her daughter, Patricia. In Albuquerque, she perfected the art of doting over her great-grandsons, Connor and Beckett, and assisted with their day care while their parents went to work. Her passion for shopping never waned until the very end. Each Friday afternoon was reserved for her to visit with her hair stylist, Viola, and then an afternoon of shopping. That scenario was repeated well into her last days, even though she was relegated to riding in a wheelchair into her favorite haunts ... Foley's, Dillard's, Walmart, Smith's Grocery, the Dollar Store, etc, being pushed by her son-in-law and often with one or both great-grandsons in tow. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Patricia L. Hesse (husband Henry "Dave"); granddaughter, Terri L. Wickham (husband Hank) of Albuquerque, granddaughter, Robin L. McClannahan (husband Rory) of Edgewood, New Mexico; and great-grandsons Connor M. McClannahan and Beckett H. McClannahan. Her extended family includes Regina Mustain (husband David) of Florida, Kathryn Dvorak of Nevada, Delia Lane of Illinois, and Diane Lane Brolin (husband Josh) of California, and all their respective families. Virginia outlived virtually all her great circle of friends, and missed them terribly. And last, but not least, Virginia is survived by her loving and faithful dog, Tishy. Virginia will be sorely missed by all; and her loving generous spirit will never be forgotten. French -Westside will handle the arrangements. A private memorial will be held in Albuquerque for the family, and then Virginia will be transported to Ft. Worth where she will rest forever beside her husband at the Greenwood Mausoleum. A brief memorial service will be held at the crypt site so that friends in the area can pay their last respects on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Special thanks are extended to the many healthcare professionals who assisted with Virginia's care over the years, but notably to Amber Care Hospice who provided the utmost in loving care in the last days. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any organization that helps children, in Virginia's memory. Please visit our online guest book for Virginia at RememberTheirStory.com French 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (505) 897-0300

MIERA -- Genevieve "Gennie" Miera Momma/Nana, When tomorrow starts without you and you are not there to see when the sun rises and finds my eyes all filled with tears for thee. I know you wish I wouldn't cry the way I am today, while thinking of the many things I didn't get to say. You know how much I love you just as much as you loved me and each time that I think of you I am surely missing thee. But when tomorrow starts without you I will try to understand That Our Heavenly Father came and called your name and took you by the hand. He said your place was ready in heaven far above and that you'd have to leave behind all those you dearly loved. But as you turned to walk away a tear fell from your eye all because it hurt you to have to say good-bye. If I could relive two years ago just even for awhile I'd say good-bye and kiss you and maybe see you smile. So when tomorrow starts without thee I wont think we are far apart for everytime I think of you you are right here in my heart.. I love and miss you mommy . All my love your Daughter Kelly grandchildren Ashleigh Miranda and Colton

PFEUFER -- Lila Armijo Pfeufer. We lost our mother and grandmother on Sunday, January 10, 2010. Lila Armijo Pfeufer was born November 25, 1911, and raised in Albuquerque, living a life full of character, adventure, guidance and nurturing. A comment often made was "she's a very gracious and dignified woman". Her sense of life was extended to her children and grandchild, teaching us love, loyalty and self-respect. Lila attended UNM for two years, but graduated from Northwestern University in 1938 and began her life's journey working in Washington, DC for the Brazilian Aero Commission at the Brazilian Embassy during WWII, traveling throughout Central and South America; living in the Panama Canal Zone where her son Roderick was born. She retired from teaching school (4th grade at Eubank Elementary School) in 1973 and once again began her world travels, ending in 1998. The only place she said she wished she had visited was India. When she wasn't traveling she spent countless hours volunteering for the NM Genealogical Society copying genealogical records and was honored in 2000 for her contributions; and at the Albuquerque Museum Fountain going over photos and identifying them where Lila was honored in 1995 as Volunteer of the Year. She enjoyed making silver jewelry and painting. Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; son, Roderick; three brothers; and two sisters. She leaves behind two daughters, Lila Ann Vernon (Chattanooga, TN) and Jeanette Bonnell (Salt Lake City, UT); one granddaughter, Catherine Mayo Byars (Brian) (Tucson, AZ); and great-granddaughter, Brooke, whom she loved seeing. Per her request, she will be cremated. A private service will be announced at a later date. Those wishing may donate to the charity of their choice in her name. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Zander family (Emily, Louise and Jackie) and Ann and Paul Mossman for their friendship to our mom, the staff at St. Catherine's Rehab Center and nurses of Hospice Compassus. Please visit our online guestbook for Lila at www.RememberTheirStory.com. "And now, the end is near, And so I face the final curtain. My friends, I'll say it clear; I'll state my case of which I'm certain. I've lived a life that's full - I've traveled each and every highway. And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
