ALIRES -- Orlando S. Alires. God's loving arms are now holding our dearly loved husband, father, pompo, brother, uncle and friend, Orlando S. Alires, who went home on Thursday, December 3, 2009. He was born on June 1, 1954 and was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. His parents, Jimmy and Rafaela Alires, have predeceased him. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Theresa; daughters, Monica Gallegos, Lisa Gutierrez and husband, Clarence; son, Gabriel Alires; grandchildren, Gabriel, Mariah, Marissa and Alexis; sisters, Dolores Alires, and Lorraine Garcia and husband, David; brothers, Ralph Alires and wife, Geraldine, Joe Alires and wife, Gina; mother-in-law, Estella M. Solano; along with the members of his extended in-law family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His career as an electrician earned him highest regard for his work ethic and professionalism. An avid fisherman, he most enjoyed fishing in the Jemez. He possessed a passion for helping people, and his jovial wit and humor won him many friends. He had a true quality for making new friends wherever life took him. He was called upon by many people for repairs and always had the knack and ability to do so. He lived simply, loved generously, cared deeply, spoke kindly and left the rest to God, whom he served with a loyal heart and willing mind. A Christian service will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna Rd NE. ARAGON -- Cecilia Aragon, 68, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend passed away on December 4, 2009. She is survived by her only daughter Lisa Aragon-Burton and her husband Ken Burton; brothers, Henry Aragon and wife Eileen, Ray Aragon and wife Michelle; sisters, Theresa Sanchez and Dolores Sanchez; sister-in-law, Mela Sanchez; grandchildren, Trinity, Elijah and Joshua; and several nieces and nephews. BASSETT -- Jeanette Mae Bassett passed away December 2, 2009 at the age of 93. Born in Bremen IN July 11, 1916, Jeanette came to Albuquerque in 1938; she married Jack Evins in 1942. Jack was killed in WWII just two months after the birth of their only daughter, Jean Etta Evins. In 1946, after the war, Jeanette married Ralph Aden Bassett, and the couple made their home in Albuquerque and Santa Fe where Mr. Bassett served as Line Superintendent for Public Service Co. until his retirement. Mrs. Bassett was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Ralph, and her daughter, Jean, in 2007. Jeanette is survived by her sons, Ralph Albert Bassett and wife, Maryann, and Robert Bassett, all of Albuquerque, grandson Mark Allala of Albuquerque, and granddaughter, Catherine Massman and husband Mike, of Denver CO, three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; her sisters Mrs. Margaret Moretto and Mrs. Martha Yeager, of Bremen IN; brothers Lou Huff, and Jim Huff and wife, Loretta, also of Bremen IN, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bassett was a grade school teacher in Santa Fe for many years, always active in her church, and with her many friends.. Forever she'll be remembered as a remarkable woman, for her quick wit and keen sense of humor, a great homemaker and cook, loved by so many. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m., at the Manzano del Sol Chapel, 5201 Roma NE, Albuquerque NM 87108; interment later with her husband, Ralph, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. DRIVER -- John Benjamin Driver, Lt. Col., U.S. Army, retired, 89, went to be with his Lord, Friday, December 4, 2009. He was born July 13, 1920 in Lima, Ohio the son of Henry Jacob and Hazel Leona Ashby Driver. He married Sally K. Swain on November 19, 1980 at First Christian Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army after 24 years of service. He was National Director of the Red Cross in Santa Monica, California for 11 years. Survivors include his wife Sally of Albuquerque; one son and two daughters; Lynn and her husband, Harold Swartz, Duncanville, TX; Kurt F. and his wife, Debbie Schmehl, Nakomis, FL; Karla and her husband, Dr. Jim Romero, Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Glenn, Farmville, VA. Mr. Driver was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; two sons, William "Bill" Driver; John Driver; one daughter, Denise Michelle; one sister; Jane McWilliams. JANKOWSKI -- Isabelle Bernadette Jankowski, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Isabelle is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard; daughter, Dr. Rebecca M. Jankowski (Paul Therkildsen); son, Bryan C. Jankowski (Paula Price); daughter, Catherine A. Schaeffer (Michael); daughter Jo Ann Millegan (Carl) of Kemmerer, WY; grandchildren Joshua K. Jankowski, Emily R. Harper, Jada B. Millegan; sister, Janice Bennett (Jerry) of South Bend, IN; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Rafalski of South Bend, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary Rafalski and brother Michael J. Rafalski, Jr. Isabelle was born in South Bend, IN, where she met and married Richard. They moved to New Mexico in June, 1958. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, sewing, and gardening, especially flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and prayer group. JOHNSON -- Susie Johnson, 60, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Born on February 5, 1949 in Albany, NY, she was the first of ten children to Robert and Mildred Livingston. She was resident of Albuquerque since 1970. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Dave Johnson; her three children and five grandchildren; daughter Tammy Hunter and son Dylan; daughter Becky Wilkinson; son, Tim Wilkinson, wife Kristina and daughter Ashleigh; two step-children; Leslie Simmons, husband Kory and children Kayla and Kole; Eric Davis, Marti Parker and daughter Samantha. Susie's sense of humor and caring ways enabled her to have a large extended family of friends. She touched the lives and hearts of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. KIMBREL -- Wesley E. Kimbrel, born in Okeene, Oklahoma, November 20, 1921 and died in Albuquerque December 3, 2009. He is survived by his wife Lois; daughters, Michele Griffin, Dawn Sterk and husband Kevin, Maurine Rice-Schroeder and husband Dennis; sons, Robert Rice and wife Jeanne, Charlie Rice and wife Sandy; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces Kathy Dillinger and husband Carl, Candy Paco and nephew Walter Thomson and wife Joan, two great-nieces; three great-nephews; brother-in-law C. P. Thomson, and other family members and friends. Mr. Kimbrel was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Olive Alexander Kimbrel, sisters, Elaine, Jeanne and a younger brother, Buddy. He served in the US Army during WW II, worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired from Sandia National Labs after 26 years. Mr. Kimbrel was a member of the Coast Guard Auxilliary. He enjoyed skeet shooting and won numerous awards for his marksmanship. Services will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas location with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. KRIECHEL -- Virginia Victoria Kriechel, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to Miguel and Margarita Vega on October 8, 1926 in Mason City, IA. Virginia was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she always put her family first above her own needs and was a rock to her loving husband, Werner. For many years Virginia was a Librarian for Genesee District Library, MI, held a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Iowa and her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana Campus. At age 73, Virginia received a Master Gardeners Certification from Michigan State University. She is survived by her loving husband, Werner Kriechel and their children; Maria Espinosa and husband, Russell of Scottsdale AZ; Anna Wheeler and husband, Randy of Davison, MI; Bernhard Kriechel and wife, Kristina of Albuquerque; Marta Kriechel of Davison, MI; five grandchildren, Erin Wheeler, Karin Espinosa, Mario Andres Espinosa, Kristen Gonzalez, Alex Espinosa, and Sophia Kriechel; one great-granddaughter, Victoria Preston; three sisters, Mickey Witt of Long Beach, CA, Cecilia Nelson and husband, Ric, of San Diego, CA and Eleanor Vega of Chicago, IL; and nieces and nephews. Virginia is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Kriechel; her parents; one brother; and three sisters. MAESTAS -- Liberato Maestas Sr. (Livie) Born March 26, 1950 Passed away on December 4, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan & Stella; three brothers, Leroy (Fly), George and Jose; and a sister Gale. NEWMAN -- Dorothy Evelyn Newman, 83, of Albuquerque passed away at home with her family by her side on Wednesday December 2, 2009. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth and wife Marra, Richard, Gordon and wife Kimberly and Jeff; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Corey, Christy, Sarah and Melanie Parsons and husband Dave; great - grandchildren, Rebbecca, Hayden and Brennan; Jeffrey's mother Susan Companion; brother, Clyde Compton and wife Maria; brother's - in- law, Vincent Newman and his wife Betty and Floyd Lewis, and sister-in-law, Elsie Screnoch. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edward Joseph Newman. Dorothy retired from the UNM School of Medicine after many years of service. During her life she enjoyed playing cards, and had many friends in the card playing community. Dorothy had an amazing will to live even while tackling her extreme medical problems. A memorial service will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas location, on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. where friends will be invited to share memories. RAINS -- Trinity Aneana "Trini" Rains, infant daughter of Ashley Trujillo and Christopher Rains, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Her name means: Trinity (Everlasting, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit); Aneana (an answer to prayer); and Rains (showers from heaven). She is survived and loved by her grandparents, Jennifer Trujillo, Leroy Trujillo, Jr., James Rains, Darlene Medrano, and her friend, John Williams; and by great-grandparents, Margaret Trujillo, Leroy Trujillo, Sr., Antoinette Stout, and Thomas Lopez; great-great grandparents Isabell Medrano, Dulcinea Martinez, Tom Lopez and Laura Lopez; aunts LiaMarie Trujillo, Christine Trujillo, Leanne Muniz; uncles Leroy Trujillo III and Phillip Navarez; first cousin, Robert Navarez and many other cousins and a large extended family. Trini loved to share Mum-Mum cookies. She loved to play patty-cake. Trini made cute, little grunts. Our little angel was full of love, happiness and smiles all the time. REED -- Junius J. Reed, 90, passed away on December 5, 2009. He was born on August 22, 1919 in Safford, AZ to Timothy and Gertrude Reed. Junius attended Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, AZ, then serving on a mission to Argentina. For many years he worked in a hardware store, he then moved to El Paso, TX, going to work for the Border Patrol in 1950. Junius and the love of his life, Madge, lived in El Paso for over 50 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Madge; five children, Timothy of Blanding, UT, Jonathan of Albuquerque, NM, Roger of PA, Tom of Santa Rosa, CA, and Mary Ann of San Diego. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Daniels Family on Wyoming. SHINDO-BOYCE -- Becky A. Shindo-Boyce went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5th, 2009. Becky is survived by her husband of 16 years, Gary Boyce of Albuquerque; her mother Juana Shindo of El Paso, Texas; brother David Shindo and family of El Paso, Texas; step-sons, Henry Boyce and family and Alvis Boyce and family of Hagerman, NM; Gary S. Boyce and family of Levelland, Texas; and three nephews, Patrick and Jonathon of El Paso, TX, and D.J. of Houston, TX, and one niece, Amy of El Paso, TX. Becky was born and raised in El Paso, then went to work for the FAA in Albuquerque and worked for the FAA in numerous cities over her 25 + year career. She met Gary Boyce in Roswell, NM and after a brief courtship, Gary and Becky married in the Roswell Industrial Air Center Terminal. Gary and Becky moved to Albuquerque in 1995 where they have made their home. Becky is a member of the First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque. STURGEON -- Robert Lee Sturgeon, 88, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Monday, December 1, 2009. Robert was born March 10, 1921 in English, Indiana to Omer and Myrtle (Romine) Sturgeon. He married his beloved wife of 62 years, Roberta J. Sturgeon on April 20, 1947. She preceded him in death only seven months ago. Robert lived in Cedar Crest for the past 44 years. He was a member of the Community Church of the Sandias. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Naomi Brooks and Wanda Thompson; and five brothers, Warren, Maurice, James, Cleodus, and LeRoy Sturgeon. He is survived by his sons, Kerry L. Sturgeon and his wife, Lisa R. of Tijeras, NM, Kevin L. Sturgeon and Barbara of Albuquerque, NM, and Jeff A. Sturgeon of Cedar Crest, NM; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
