BARELA -- Abelicio Baca "A.B." Barela was born on June 5, 1918 and died on October 30, 2009 at age 91. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beneranda; his youngest daughter, Berlinda; and his first great-grandson, Aidan Oshiro. Survivors include his children, Dan Barela and wife, Donna, Esmerlindo Barela, Jennifer B. Montano and husband, Jake, Joe Barela and wife, Anna, and Francine La Jeunesse; his grandchildren, Natalie Barela, Mario Montano and wife, Jonna, Dominic Montano, Andrea Barela, Vanessa Barela, JoAna Barela, and Olivia Oshiro and husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Gavin Oshiro; and his kitty cats, Jack and Jill. Mr. Barela worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, then served in World War II. He went on to earn a college degree at New Mexico State University, then continued with graduate courses at New Mexico Tech and St. Joseph's College. He was a teacher for many years, then worked with the Federal Housing Administration. Upon retirement, he worked part-time as a crossing guard leaving plenty of time for his passion of reading and junk collecting. Mr. Barela was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church for over forty-five years, serving as an usher. He was the treasurer of the CCC Alumni Association. Mr. Barela will be remembered for his strong will, his incredible sense of humor and for his unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith. The family would sincerely like to thank the many physicians and nurses who assisted with Mr. Barela's care. A special thanks to the 4th and 5th floor nurses at the VA hospital, Nurse Dolores Peterson and her CEC students, caregiver, Ron Archibeque, Vista Care Hospice, and the many neighbors, family and friends who provided care and support. Pallbearers will be Jake Montano, Mario Montano, Dominic Montano, Edwin Dominguez, Johnny Battaglia, Larry Gardner, and Pete Vigil. BURTON -- Ernest L. Burton, 91, of Albuquerque went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Ernest was born in Monte Vista, CO to Victor Asa and Gladys Agnes (Coffee) Burton on August 17, 1918. He graduated from Lake View High School in San Angelo, TX. After graduation, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in San Angelo, TX and was later transferred to Clovis, NM with his wife and two sons. During that time he joined the Navy and served two years in World War II on the Columbia stationed in Guam. After the war was over he returned to Clovis, later transferred to Wellington, KS at which time he joined the Masonic Lodge. In 1957, Ernest took a job as tool and die maker with General Electric. He was instrumental in machining parts for the Apollo 7 space craft and also nuclear aircraft engines. In 1968, General Electric transferred him to Albuquerque where he worked until retirement. Ernest was very active in the Crestview Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon for 39 years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mattie Louise (Young) Burton; children, Larry and wife, Kay, Jerry and wife, Laura; and Dana and wife, Dori; ten grandchildren, Julie, Jeff, Laura, Travis, Debbie, Carson, James, Elisabeth, Briana and Siera; and ten great-grandchildren, Shay, Michael, Amanda, Courtney, Justin, Catherine, Anna, Heather, Jesse, Christian. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anita (Burton) Wilson. Services will be held Monday, November 2, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel. C DE BACA -- Lela M. C De Baca, 78 years old, a child of God and servant of many. Lela was born September 23, 1931 and passed away October 29, 2009. Resident of Albuquerque. Lela is survived by her husband, Anselmo C De Baca. Lela was married 51 years. Also survived by her daughters, Cathy Garcia and husband, Steve, Becky Gonzales and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Desiree Harwood and husband, Johnny, Javier Gonzales, Marcos Gonzales and Andres Gonzales; brothers, Charlie Sanchez and Fernando Sanchez and wife, Virginia; sisters, Cecelia Chavez, Eloisa Salas and husband, Lupe and Vangie Delwiche. DAPO -- Edward Howard Dapo Jr., 71 of Albuquerque, passed away on October 27, 2009. He was born on March 2, 1938 to Edward Howard Sr. and Rosemarie (Pill) Dapo. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Romona, of 50 years; his daughters, Cathy and Karen Dapo; and his mother-in-law, Antonia Candelaria. He is survived by his sons, Anthony Dapo and wife Erlinda, Tom and Eddie Dapo. He is also survived by his daughter, Lynn Cooper and husband Ray; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are Kathy Asmus, Virginia Ramirez and Matt Johnson. Edward was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was also retired from APS. He loved playing and coaching baseball, playing at the casino and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Monday November 2, 2009, followed by a Life Celebration Mass at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with Military Honors. DUNMORE -- Bruce Anthony Dunmore, 74, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Born in Brockton, MA, to Charlie and Barbara Dunmore, he grew up in Southern California and Garland, TX. He lived in Albuquerque for over 50 years. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ramona Dunmore, and his son, Richard Cordes. Bruce is survived by his sister's, Carol Bourland and husband Olin of Wichita Falls, TX and Brenda Dunmore of Dallas, TX; children, David Dunmore and wife Christine of Severn, MD, Michael Dunmore and wife Chi of Manila, Philippines, Tame Butler of Albuquerque, Shelly Phelan and husband Doug of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Eleanor Cordes of Houston, TX; grandchildren, James, Natalie, Matthew, Marla, Casee, Nicholas, Montana, Mariel and, Michael Bruce and great-grandchildren, Steely and Matthew. Bruce was a junior tennis champion in Southern, CA. He played football and ran track for the Garland Owls and played college football at SMU. Bruce was an Aeronautical Engineer and owned Premmco Inc - New Mexico for over 43 years. Over the years he and his business manager/friend, Susie Singer, operated several additional businesses. Bruce and Ramona traveled the world going to the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. He loved all sports and considered himself an expert in all of them. Since 1982, he and his friend Floyd Highfill have built indoor running tracks for competitive track and field. Their tracks are in facilities around the U.S, and Taiwan. His biggest enjoyment came from his racing and breeding Thoroughbred horses. With his friends and partners, Gary and Marlene Howard, of Hemet, CA. he purchased a stallion, Stormy Jack. They were thrilled when Bob Black Jack, a son of Stormy Jack, ran in the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Bruce has many, many life long friends. He loved his friends and loved life. GABALDON -- Josephine Gabaldon, age 85, a life-long resident of Los Chavez and recently of Los Lunas, NM passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009. She was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church and Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Catholic Daughter for 36 years and Sacred Heart. After raising six children, she became a school bus driver for the Belen Schools, which included being a school bus driver instructor. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, watching Wheel of Fortune, weekly Bible Study, and daily visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Martita Gabaldon; her loving husband of 47 years, Abelino Gabaldon; son-in-law, Denny Gallegos and grandson, Denny M. Gallegos. GABALDON -- Manuel Esquipula (Galletas), age 63, was born in Reno, NV, raised in Peralta, NM, lived most of his life in Los Lunas, NM and was currently a resident of Las Nutrias, NM. He was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with our Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Manuel and his beloved wife, Viola fulfilled their dream of moving to the country where they farmed and raised cattle. He was a member of the UA Local 412 for 40 years and retired from his plumbing company in 2004. Manuel's joy in life was spending time with his family and his many friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Manuel was an active member of the Las Nutrias Catholic Church and was padrino to the Baby Jesus. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 where he trained in Microwave Radio Equipment Repair. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Ramon; infant daughter, Melanie Elaine; mother, Pula Romero Griego; father, Manuel B. Gabaldon and in-laws, Luciano and Rosenda Lucero Baca. Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Viola Gabaldon; son, Manuel Gabaldon and wife, Rosie; daughter, Melanie D. and husband, Jeremy Lucero; grandchildren, Adriana and Mateo Gabaldon, C.J. and Shae Lucero and Marianna Valdespino; three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Joziah and Noah; his father and best friend, Ramon V. LO SAPIO -- James A. (Jack) Lo Sapio, 84, formerly of Madison, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Rio Rancho, NM. Also known as "Jiggers" and "Doc" to his family and many friends, he was born November 4, 1924, in Madison, the 6th of 7 siblings, to Antonio Lo Sapio and Vincenza Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Ralph and is survived by his brothers, Anthony and Louis; and his sisters, Mary, Julia and Antoinette. A graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and later served with Patton's Third Army in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. Jack joined the A & P Tea Company while attending Seton Hall University and upon his return from WWII, he rejoined the A & P, where he was employed until his retirement. Jack married the former Theresa Ann Newman of Dover, NJ on February 28, 1947 in Madison where they resided until relocating to Rio Rancho, NM in January of 2001. Jack was devoted to and is survived by his loving spouse and best friend of 62 years, Theresa; sons James A. Jr. and wife Kathleen, Corrales, NM, Thomas F. and wife Joanne, Brookfield, WI; grandson, James II, Memphis, TN; granddaughters, Alessandra Brantl and spouse Craig, Allen, TX, Jessica Perez and spouse Ramon, Columbia, MD, and Lizzy, West Allis, WI; great-grandsons, Caden and Carson Brantl, Nicholas Perez and Sutton Lo Sapio and numerous nephews and nieces. MONTOYA -- Horacio Montoya, born April 16, 1916 in Taos, New Mexico to Jose Vidal and Zoraida Vigil Montoya. Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away October 27, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lydia, Celia, and Claudina, and his brothers, Ernesto, Eli, Jose, Rudolpho, and Ben. Horacio is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Loyola Montoya; children, Carlos Montoya and wife Dolores, Victor Montoya and wife Carolyn, Michaela Montoya, Loretta Robledo and husband Miguel, and Adrian Montoya and fiancee, Rita Felter; grandchildren, Stephanie, Rachel, Alejandro, Gabriel and his fiancee, Jessica, Andres, Veronica, Michael, Adrian, Lucas and Alana; great-grandson, Alex, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. His military service included the 200th Coast Artillery mobilized for active duty from the Taos Armory on January 6, 1941. The 200th Coast Artillery unit landed in the Philippine Islands on September 20, 1941 and fought until their capture at the fall of Bataan with his brother, Ben Montoya. Horacio was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and 3 1/2 years of Japanese POW incarceration. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Citation, American Defense Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze stars, Liberation of Philippines (awarded by the Philippine Army) and the American Ex-Prisoners of War Medal. Horacio recently completed and published his war time memoirs in a book entitled Rising Sun Over Bataan. MOREHOUSE -- Lillian E. Morehouse, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 5 years, died Saturday, October 24, 2009. She is survived by her two daughters, Marlene Frederick and Lanell Anderson and husband, Bruce all of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Marc Frederick, Craig Anderson, Thomas Anderson, and Elizabeth Anderson; sister-in-law, Charleen Esparza; brother-in-law, Glenn Morehouse and wife, Ira; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Morehouse; and brothers, Joseph Cresto and Pete Cresto. She was born on May 29, 1926 in Gallup, NM to Dominic and Dominica Cresto and graduated from Gallup High School, Class of 1943. After graduation she moved to Albuquerque where she attended business school. Lillian married Marlin Morehouse on July 15, 1947 and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She had a successful career in insurance working at several agencies in Gallup. Lillian retired in 1988 and she and Marlin enjoyed traveling, square dancing and fishing but her greatest love was her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 215 West Wilson in Gallup on Saturday, November 7, 2009, 9:30 a.m.. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup. SISKIN -- Florence Siskin, age 85, of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009 in Cape Coral, Florida. She is survived by her son, David of Cape Coral, Florida; and a niece, Barbara Ginsberg of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Siskin. She and Howard ran The Mixed Bag at the Albuquerque Flea Market for almost 30 years. A graveside service was held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 with immediate family present. YEAGER -- James B. "Jim" Yeager died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Good Samartian Village Monzano del Sol Nursing Home where he had lived for the last 16 months. Jim was born in Barberton, OH on December 28, 1916 and moved to Albuquerque in 1920. As a lifelong resident he was graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended the University of New Mexico. He worked for 16 years for the Santa Fe Railroad and was Building Engineer for the Simms Building and Bank of New Mexico Building when newly built. He retired in 1985 after years of dedicated service. Jim was active in the Scouts and was a longtime active member of Temple Lodge Number 6 AF&AM, serving as Grand Master in 1967. As a sixty plus year devoted member of First United Methodist Church, he was active in the Grace Noon-Time Meal Ministry and many other volunteer activities. A devoted husband and dedicated Father and Grandfather, his giving spirit survives in the hearts of his wife of 70 years, Virginia Yeager; his sons, Steve Yeager and Gary Yeager and wife, Glenda Yeager; grandchildren, Stephanie Yeager and Eric Yeager and wife, Heidi Yeager; great-grandson, Jase Yeager; his brother, Frederick Yeager and wife, Jean and their children, Frederick and Kathy; devoted niece, Yvonne Neau and her husband, Gene Neau; and numerous extended family. A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW. For those so moved, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Jim's memory to the Grace Meal Ministry at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
