ALLEN -- Terence M. Allen, Colonel U.S. M.C. retired, 78 of Sarasota, FL died October 4, 2009. Services and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Survivors include his wife Martha: and seven children, Kevin, Kerry, Daniel, Lisa, Molly, Catherine, Eve; and stepchildren, Thomas and Kim; and 11 grandchildren. Colonel Allen was born in St. Louis, MO and completed his PH.D. while serving in the Marine Corps for 28 years. He spent a graduate year teaching at the Naval War College in Newport R.I. His medals include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit with Combat V, Bronze Star with Combat V, Air Medal awarded in Vietnam for 50 plus combat flights over enemy territory, Military Merit with Combat V, U.S. Army medal for Military Merit (Lebanon 1958), National Defense Service Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medals with gold, silver and two bronze stars. Decoration: Gold Marine Corps Parachute Wings, Army Jump Wings with seven stars (combat jumps) and Master Jump Wings (1969 Vietnam). Donations may be sent to America's Vet Dogs, 371 E. BASS -- Dorothy Estella Bass, passed away October 6, 2009 near her home in Willard, NM. She was born on July 13, 1938 in Cerrillos, NM and outside of a few years, lived in Albuquerque and the Estancia Valley her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Eugene and Audrey Brown and her husband, Bill Bass. Dorothy is survived by her son, David E. McCully and wife Pearl and their son, Evan of Milan, NM; her daughters, Katherine E. McCully of Albuquerque and Jennifer E. Spinler and husband, Patrick and their children, Natasha, Rachael and Mikhal of Kasson, Minnesota; and her sister, Irene Brown of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Jane Powers, Sylvia and Phil Levy, and Ruth and Tony Moon and their children. Dorothy worked for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator and customer service representative, but most of all, she was Mother and Grandma to her family and was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many positions at church, her last being Historian for the Estancia Branch. A viewing will be held October 9, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE. BLACKWELL -- Vera Willene Blackwell, 90, of Santa Fe, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband Noah M. Blackwell; parents Ira and Ella Mae Love; sisters Bernice (Love) Nielson and husband Tommy of Baltimore, MD, and Helen (Love) Angelos and husband Paul of Baltimore, MD; and brother William Howard Love and wife Beulah of Salisbury, NC. Vera was born in Trade, Tennessee on March 22, 1919. She lived a life of a career Military wife and the family resided in many locations, finally settling in Albuquerque in 1957. In her later years she worked for Rent-A-Granny in Albuquerque where she cared for many people. Vera was known for her love of Jesus and shared her faith with many she came in contact with and has given out "Daily Bread" booklets to friends and strangers for over 30 years. She is survived by her children William M. Blackwell (Barbara) of Santa Fe, and Linda Liskow (Barry) of Lenexa, KS; brother James Love (Hazel) of Trade, TN; sister Patsy Ann Cavanaugh (Edward) of Taylors, SC; and twin grandchildren Michael Liskow (Virginie) of Brooklyn, NY, and Samantha Liskow of Chicago. Vera is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Funeral Service will be conducted Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 2520 Camino Entrada, Santa Fe, NM. CHAVEZ -- Frederico Chavez, 79, retired golf course superintendent, died Thursday at the VA Memorial Hospital in Albuquerque after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Chavez was born in Cubero, New Mexico in 1930 to Estanislado Chavez and Adalida Gonzales. In 1949 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. During his 48-year residency in Albuquerque, he was superintendent of the Los Altos, Arroyo Del Oso, UNM, and Rio Rancho golf courses. Golf was his passion until his health no longer permitted him to play. "Freddy" Chavez traveled all over the country to play golf and participated in golf tournaments such as The Charlie Pride Celebrity Tournament and the Los Borrachos Tournament. In 1998 he and his wife, Corine, retired on a ranch in his hometown of Cubero, and lived contently until the onset of his illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Corine Chavez; six sons, Jose Esequel Chavez and wife Donna of Albuquerque, NM, Anthony Chavez of Cubero, NM, Paul Chavez of San Francisco CA, Lawrence Fred Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Mejia and wife Rhawnie of Mesa, AZ, and Ricky Chavez of Cubero, NM; two daughters, Carol Encinias and husband Chris of Corrales, NM, and Sofia Frederick of Denver, CO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lita Vallejos of Los Lunas, NM, Micky Otero of Maywood, CA, and Arline "Rosie" Maldonado and husband Jesse of Albuquerque, NM; three brothers, Roy Chavez and wife Susie of Riverside, CA, Joe Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, and Carlos Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. CUNICO -- Diana L. Cunico 44 passed away October 2, 2009. Diana is survived by her husband Dean Cunico; in-laws, John and Georgia Cunico; brother-in-law, Mike Cunico; niece, Keisha as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. DURAN -- Ann M. Duran, a 25 year resident of Four Hills Villa Serena and a faithful member of Our Lady of Assumption Parish, passed away Thursday morning, October 8, 2009 after a brief illness. She is survived by her son Joseph Duran and daughter-in-law Carrie Duran of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Shannon Ward of Trophy Club, TX; brother John Eppich of Farmington, NM; sisters Gertrude Etchhardt of Colorado Springs, CO and Jean Raterman of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann retired as a registered nurse from Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK where she resided prior to moving to Albuquerque. Ann was an avid bridge player and loved her crossword puzzles. ELIZONDO -- Ophelia Peralta Elizondo, March 16, 1914 - September 14, 2009, age 95, born in Valverde, New Mexico and raised in Albuquerque, where she lived until the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1966. Ophelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Santiago (Jim) Elizondo, who died in 1968. Ophelia (known as "Fella" by her family and friends) was loved, admired and respected by all who knew her. Fella was a graduate of Harwood Girls School as well as a life long member of El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church. Fella and Santiago were both active members of the original church located on Gold street and they were involved in the building of the new church as well. Fella went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in perfect peace and she was surrounded by her beloved family at the time of her passing. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Fella is survived by her sons, Jimmy Elizondo and his wife Nancy, John Charles Elizondo and wife Naomi; Grandchildren include Kim Dugan, Cheryl Reilly, David Elizondo, Jeff Elizondo (deceased) and Michelle Hokanson and ten great-grandchildren as well. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at El Buen Samaritano Church located at 700 Granite NW and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial. Services will be conducted by Pastor David Blanco and life long family friend, Pastor Max Cisneros.

ELLIS -- Paul R. Ellis died in Abilene, Texas on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Mr. Ellis was born in Quincy, Illinois to Lucian and Alta Mae Ellis on December 10, 1921. His one elder brother, Lucian, died during World War II. Mr. Ellis graduated from the United Sates Military Academy at Westpoint in 1943 and immediately entered the war as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, serving as a paratrooper in the South Pacific, and being one of the first officers to enter Japan at the conclusion of hostilities with that country. He then served at Sandia Base in Albuquerque as a part of an elite group of Army officers charged with managing the reorganized Manhattan Project, the Army's nuclear weapons program. Following this he earned an MS at Harvard. Mr. Ellis later served in the occupation forces in Heidelberg, Germany. Before entering civilian life in 1955, Mr. Ellis attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was the recipient of the Bronze and Silver Stars. Mr. Ellis's career in business management took him his family to many locations: Albuquerque; Chevy Chase, Maryland; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; London, England; and Houston, Texas. He retired with his wife Phyllis to Temple, Texas where he was a member of First Baptist Church, taught elementary school, and volunteered with Gideon International. In June, 2008 he moved once more with his wife to Abilene, Texas to be near his youngest daughter. An avid lover of reading and history, his greatest passion was Bible study, and he loved to teach Sunday school throughout his life. His love of the Lord and the Word God was the greatest legacy he left his family. Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife, Phyllis Harris Ellis; by his youngest daughter, Debbie Ellis Frazee, her husband Dr. Richard Frazee, and their children Katie, Paul and Jack of Abilene; and by his second daughter, June Ellis Cuming, her husband Dr. Reid Cuming, and their children Reid, Colin and Cameron of Houston. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Felicia Ann Ellis. FREDERICK -- Harold (Fuzzy) Eugene Frederick, 82, an Albuquerque resident since 1954, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009. HELDENBRAND -- Lois Marie Heldenbrand, 73, went to be with her Lord on October 6, 2009. She was born in Hoisington Kansas to Eva and Gale Bickle. She married her husband Carl in 1950 in Great Bend Kansas. She and Carl were blessed with two sons whom they loved very much. The awesome two some went on to devote their lives to their two sons, daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lois always did for others whether in the form of meals, time, prayers or love. If you were her friend, you were her friend for life. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her son Curtis whom she mourned every day; also by her brothers Bob and Carl Bickle. She is survived by husband Carl whom she was so devoted to for fifty nine years; son Edward and his wife Gina of Roswell, NM; grandchildren, Valerie and her husband Robert, Jonathan and his wife Kara, and Casey Edward; great-grandchildren Taylor, James, Kadence and Lilian, all of Jacksonville, Fl.; her brother Don and his wife Chris of Hays, Ks; many nieces and nephews; her "special daughter" Pam Boggs and Ruby Palmerlee, who helped Lois in many ways; and also many cherished and devoted friends. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge. She loved the countless hours of volunteer work with the VA hospital, Girls State, and being Mrs. Santa Claus, bringing joy and happiness at the special time of the year. Everyone who knew Lois will miss her. She was a wonderful force of nature. KEMP -- Clifford E. Kemp was called home to be with God on October 2, 2009. Born on May 2, 1920, he is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Hattie D. Kemp, son, Gordon E. Kemp,and his wife, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He will be eternally loved and missed by all who knew him. MARTINEZ -- Roseann, Loving Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend, and Coach. Roseann Martinez was born on December 31, 1972 to Juan B. and Mary Rose Martinez in Beaufort, South Carolina. Roseann's early years were spent traveling with her family; she was a daughter of a career Marine. Her family settled in Albuquerque, NM where she completed high school. Roseann enjoyed playing sports including volleyball and softball. She was an Altamont Allstar for three years. Roseann also loved music, and had a beautiful voice. After living in Washington for a brief period, Roseann moved back to Albuquerque, NM to live closer to her parents. Roseann has two boys, Ben nine years old and Jesse eight years old. She worked for Sandia National Laboratories as an administrative assistant for the past six years. Roseann spent most of her extra time with her boys as a baseball coach and football team mother. She was a very generous person with her time and energy helping others and spending time with family and friends. Roseann was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish where she was a lector and her son's are altar servers. She passed away, at the age of 36, at UNM Hospital with many family members and friends at her bedside. Roseann will be greatly missed. She is survived by her Son's, Ben and Jesse Martinez; Father and Mother, Juan B. and Mary Rose Martinez; sisters, Mary "Tina" Robinson, Vivian Martinez, Lorraine Spencer; nieces and nephews, Zachariah, Christina, Dorian, Mica, Dylan, and Erica; many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. MILLER -- Donald C. Miller. A resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1948 passed away in his home at 2121 Tapia SW on October 6, 2009. Donald had a very adventurous life. Sharing it with his wife Alice Miller of 56 years, who passed in 1997, and five kids, Dude Penrod, Ronald Miller, Debbie Miller-Taylor, Donald Miller Jr., and Donita Miller; and his great extended family. NAM -- Jason " Hyoung Jun" Nam, 43, born November 30, 1965 in Seoul, Korea, passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2009, in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife Kim; his children, son, Richard, 17, and his daughter, Shannon, 11; mother, Hwang Sung Ja; two brothers, Hyoung Jong and Hyoung Jik; sister, Woo Young; Father and mother-in-law, Richard J. and Poong Cha Broder; sister-in-law, Tina Denton and husband Matt; brother-in-law, Michael Broder and Jenifer Duarte, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Nam Bok Sam. Jason was a former member of the Republic of Korea Army, he had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and was a graduate of Hawaii Pacific University. He was a business owner in Hawaii for many years before he and his family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 2006. Jason was a loving husband and father who found great joy in watching his children grow. He will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. PAUL -- Wilma Lee Paul passed away peacefully in Alpharetta, GA on October 4, 2009, at age 90. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Gordon W. Paul, of Alpharetta, GA, by one grandson, Scott Paul, of Alpharetta, GA, and by five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Paul was originally from Wheeling, West Virginia, being the second youngest of ten children of Elbert and Della Albus. She was raised on a farm close to Wheeling before the family moved to Wheeling proper when Mrs. Paul was a child. In 1943, while visiting Pittsburgh, she met her husband Gordon who was serving in the United States Army Air Corps in nearby Washington, PA. They were married six weeks later. Following the marriage, Gordon was transferred to San Francisco, where he and Wilma remained for the rest of the War. Following the birth of their first son and Gordon's discharge from the army in 1946, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They moved to Alpharetta in 2003. Wilma was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and made the best banana cream pies ever. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlepoint and other crafts. She joined her family in camping and hiking, as well as traveling on vacations in the West and abroad. The twinkle in Willie's eyes will be missed. Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Dr. Gordon A. and Elaine Paul and Dr. Donald A. and Nadeen Paul; grandchildren Heidi Perry (Graham), Thaddeus Paul (Jane), and Garrett Paul; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Amelia Perry; and a sister, Eileen Schaefer. PILLARS -- Jacob Pillars, 25 years old, passed away suddenly October 1, 2009. He was born in Albuquerque on November 27, 1983. He is survived and cherished by his mother and father, Jon and Karen; brothers, Aaron, Matthew, Jared, and Jamin and his wife Cassie; nephews, Tyler, Jaren, and Avery; nieces, Kylie, MacKenzie, Darean, and Marley; his grandmother, Dottie Massey, his aunt Becky and uncle Nabay Hindi, as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins. RADOSEVICH -- James C. Radosevich, age 72, beloved husband, father and grandfather, a resident of Rio Communities in Belen, NM went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at his home. He was born to John and Anna Radosevich on November 25, 1936 in Thoreau, NM. Jim graduated from Gallup High School and attended the University of New Mexico. Jim was a County Commissioner for two terms and the Public Works Director for McKinley County for twenty five years. After his retirement he was a consultant for Cutler Repaving Co. for ten years. He was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, NM. James is survived by his loving wife of 49 1/2 years, Carole Radosevich; their five children, one daughter Cara Marie Rigney and husband, Steve of Albuquerque, NM and four sons, Scott Radosevich and wife, Karen of Strasburg, VA; Mark Radosevich and wife, Patti of Las Cruces, NM; Eric Radosevich and wife, Saadia of Gilroy, CA and Ryan Kip Radosevich and wife, Jennifer of Dallas, TX. Jim was also blessed by eight grandchildren, Cameron, Lauren and Brandon Radosevich; Hailey and Jacob Rigney; Derek Parham; and Spencer and Ryan Frank; two brothers, Jay Radosevich of Thoreau, NM, Joe Radosevich of Arboles, CO and one sister, Jo Ann Elkins of Thoreau, NM. James is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Radosevich. A memorial rosary will be recited on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Parish in Los Lunas, NM. A memorial mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Parish in Los Lunas, NM with Father Douglas Mitchell as the Celebrant. A private internment will take place at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Albuquerque. SANCHEZ -- Felix Sanchez died Monday, October 5, 2009, at his home, at the age of 60. A 25 year veteran of the Albuquerque Aviation Police, an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. Felix leaves behind his loving wife, Pauline; three sons, Eric Sanchez, Conrad Armijo and Robert Sanchez; a daughter, Melissa Garcia; six grandchildren; a brother, Ramon Sanchez; and two nieces. SANCHEZ -- Johnnie Sanchez (Boogies) 76, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 . He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Esperidion and Mary; and his brothers Richard and Larry. He leaves behind sister Joyce and her husband John; two sisters-in-law Julie and Yolanda. His three children Daughter Debbie and her four kids Desiree, Gabriel, Joshua and Noah; and his wife Sarah and his great-grandson Ayden; Daughter Pamela and her three kids Joseph, Jared, Shawndai and her husband Osmon; Son Christopher and his wife Monica their kids Liliana and Evelina. 12 loving nieces and nephews and ten great-nieces and nephews. His very special cousins Linda and her husband Albert, Rosemary and her husband Frank, Gloria, Susie, Perla and Sally and their wonderful families in New Mexico and California. He had many close friends from Leroys, Los Compadres, and from his long history of putting watch batteries at Louie's flea market. He was a very generous and giving man that will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. His Rosary will be held 8:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday October 10, 2009 at Holy Family Church celebrated by Father Jerry and Deacon Eddie Blea. SHEA -- Bernard E. Shea, 84, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 in Espanola, New Mexico. Bernard was born February 17, 1925 the son of Charles and Sarah Baisione Shea in Alton, Illinois. He moved to Albuquerque from St. Louis, Missouri in 1952. Bernard had worked for the Sandia Laboratories before he retired. He was a volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul Society. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sarah Shea; first wife, Shirley Shea; daughter, Mary Anne Shea; two brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Oleta Shea of Rio Rancho; two daughters, Susan Maestas of Espanola, NM, Beth Gonzales and husband Joe of Farmington, NM; son, Terry Shea of Braozs, NM; step-son, Page K. Witty and wife Susan of Rio Rancho, NM; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in the San Ysidro Catholic Cemetery in Corrales, NM. TORRES -- Santiago "Jimmy" D. Torres, Jr., 82, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, with his loving family and friends by his side. Mr. Torres was born on October 15, 1926 to Santiago and Gertrude (Gonzales) Torres, Sr. of Chacon, NM. He enlisted into the US Army in 1945 and served as a Military Policeman in the Philippines during World War II. During his military service he proudly earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Independence Medal. Mr. Torres moved to the Albuquerque area in the 1950's and joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1957. He retired from AFD in 1985 after 28 years of service. During his AFD career he earned the position of Assistant Fire Chief and was very instrumental in forming the Union for the Fire Department. Upon retirement, Mr. Torres was very active in the Retired Fireman's Association. Mr. Torres was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, especially of roses. He liked to box and enjoyed supporting the sport of boxing. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. Mr. Torres was always very helpful and willing to lend a hand to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Gertrude Torres; and siblings, Emily, Camilio, Eufelio, Macario and Susie. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Ruby (Vaughan) Torres; children, JoAnn Garcia, David and his wife, Josephine, Torres, James and his wife, Lynnette, Torres, Diane and her husband, Michael "Tony," Lovato, and Raymond and his wife, Susie, Torres, all of Albuquerque, NM; stepchildren, Carolyn and her husband, Earl, Zaplin of Albuquerque, NM, and Ronnie and his wife, Joyce, Vaughan of Santa Fe, NM; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Rupie Perez, of Bakersfield, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will mourn his passing. The Viewing and Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE.
