BENAVIDEZ -- James Joseph Benavidez, 59, went home to be with our Lord Saturday, October 3, 2009. He will reunite with his father, Boleslo, and brother-in-law, Dan Sanchez, who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rosemary; mother, Josefita; children, Patricia Sierra and spouse, Ernie, James Ryan Benavidez, Audrey Benavidez, Jeannine Chavez, and Monika Chavez and fiance, Joeray Benavidez; sister, Jenny Sanchez, Lillie Jaramillo and spouse, Paul, and Dorothy Benavidez; mother-in-law, Lucy Baca; in-laws, Rebecca and Peter Sipili and Leonard and Anita Baca; grandchildren, Briauna, Jonathan, and Zackary; along with multiple nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and life-long friends. James graduated in 1968 from Valley High School after lettering in Varsity Basketball each year. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1972 after serving his country, including a tour in Vietnam. James graduated from the Albuquerque Fire Academy in 1976 and retired as an EMT-B from AFD Supression Unit in 2006. Services will be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, Abq, 4th and Mildred NW. BRAZIEL -- Jeanetta Braziel died peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on Sunday, October 4, 2009. Her husband Rich was with her at the time of her death. Jeanetta was the hub of a large and loving circle of friends and family. She lived and died filled with love and grace, leaving a hole that will never be filled although our precious memories will remain. Few touch the lives of so many in such a powerful and positive way. Jeanetta was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on October 9, 1952 to Frances and James Arndell. She grew up in Kentucky and Albuquerque and graduated from UNM with degrees in speech/language pathology and special education. She worked as a speech/language pathologist in California, returning to Albuquerque to finish graduate school. Jeanetta served her entire professional career as an educator at Jefferson Middle School, both as a teacher of gifted students and as a counselor. She loved Jefferson, her students and their families, her colleagues and the work to which she dedicated her life. Jeanetta was preceded in death by her father, James Arndell. She will be greatly missed by her family, including her husband Richard Braziel; her mother Frances Arndell; her daughter Lawren Carmignani; her daughter Christen Pike, her husband John and their two sons Jackson and Parker; her brother Jim Arndell, his wife Cindy and their son Conner; her sister Debbie Giles, her husband Rich and their sons Jason and Ryan; and countless devoted friends and members of her extended family. Services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009, 4:00 p.m., at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus NE. He is survived by a brother, Joseph and wife Rosario Chavez; children, Mercedes and husband Ben Chavez, Ruben and wife SongHui Chavez, Bernadette and husband Ben Gonzales, Sofia Martinez, Agnes and husband Pat Martinez, Michael Chavez, Rosemary and husband David Tafoya, Sandra Padilla, Charla Chavez and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Manuela "Lela" Chavez; parents Josefita and Cristobal; several brothers and sisters; sons, Gabriel Jr. and Raymond Chavez; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Chavez; son-in-law, Ruben Padilla; grandsons, Phillip Tafoya, Patrick Martinez, Juan Martinez; great-granddaughter, Marisa Lynn Vallejos and great-grandson, Jeremiah Chavez Mirabal. COBB -- Raymond M. Cobb, 87, passed away on October 5, 2009. He was born March 1, 1922, in Morrison, IL, to Samuel and Jessie Cobb. Ray grew up in Rock Falls, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wilber; his sister, Eleanor Bristol; and his step-son, Gary Cleland. Ray served in WWII; The Koran Conflict; and Vietnam, having completed 150 combat missions during his career. He graduated from Bombardier School and Navigation School. Ray believed in volunteering, with over 2500 hours with the UNM Hospital Service League, and over 20 years with Score of Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Jayne; his children, Rayne Castle and her husband Larry, of Houston, TX, Gwen McRee and her husband Leo, of San Antonio, TX; daughter in law, Jaci Cleland, of Garland, TX; four grandchildren, Rae Jean Stinnett and her husband Blair, of Haslett, TX, Dawn Magers and her husband Troy, of Spring Branch, TX, Deane Hafling and his wife Caroline, of Houston, TX, and Jana Gurley and her husband Rob, of Bastrop, TX; and seven great grandchildren. COSPER -- Ellen M. Cosper, 56, of Peralta, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, September 30, 2009 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, John M. Cosper of Peralta; father, Richard McGuire of Bosque Farms; daughters, Tawnya Cosper of Rio Rancho, and Keylee J. Cosper of Peralta; and sisters, Kathie McGuire and husband, John Broom of Santa Fe, and Rikki Gavalyas and husband, Wayne of Queensland, Australia. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margie McGuire. Ellen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms. She loved the outdoors, animals, and was an avid rock hunter. She spent many years as the Valencia County 4-H Rabbit Leader and loved working with young people. Ellen was a member of the Albuquerque Gem and Mineral Club. She loved to go rock hunting and taking drives in the country. Ellen always greeted people with a happy fun loving smile and loved talking on the phone. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held for Ellen on Saturday, October 10, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church-Bosque Farms, NM. CUNICO -- Diana L. Cunico 44 passed away October 2, 2009. ELDRIDGE -- Anne Marie (Schneider) Eldridge died peacefully at home September 2, 2009 after a long bout with cancer. She was born in Gallup, NM January 12, 1960 but lived most of her life in Albuquerque. Anne worked with young children as an educator at a number of places, including home-schooling, Children's Museum of Albq, Rio Grande Nature Ctr, NM Museum of Natural History, Univ of NM and Albq Public Schools. FREDERICK -- Harold (Fuzzy) Eugene Frederick, 82, an Albuquerque resident since 1954, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife Nancy, children Nicki of Salem, Oregon; Kurtis of Summerville, South Carolina; and Matthew of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has two grandchildren, Shawn and Karen Frederick of Summerville, South Carolina. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. GARCIA -- Estevan "Steve" B. Garcia, 62, a resident of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. Steve was born on August 23, 1947 to Bernardino and Agnes (Lucero) Garcia of Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1965. While at Albuquerque High he was active in the band programs under the direction of Win Christian. Steve played lead alto saxophone in the AHS Showtime Band, the first high school band of its kind in the city. He attended St. Joseph's College (University of Albuquerque) as well as New Mexico State University where he completed a Bachelor's degree in Music. Upon graduation, he honorably served the US Army in two tours of Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart and several other medals for his service. He was proud of his Vietnam Service, and for that it is his wish to be buried with his comrades in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Steve was a member of many local bands, specifically one that was well noted for jazz and showtune fare. He was a well respected, sought after goldsmith and award winning jeweler. Steve proudly showcased his beautiful creations at Ortega's On the Plaza in Santa Fe, NM. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by his father, Bernardino Garcia, and mother, Agnes Lucero Sanchez. He is survived by his siblings, Mannie Garcia and wife, Vicki, of MD, Leopoldo Maurice Garcia Sanchez, of Albuquerque, NM, Ramona Ann Garcia Blea and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, NM, and Saralisa Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; very loyal friend, Paul Howes, of CA; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave NW, Albuquerque, with Fr. GARCIA -- Refugio Ray Garcia passed away peacefully on October 6, 2009 at Las Palomas Care Center in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on March 2. 1922 in San Jose, New Mexico to Frutoso and Magadalena (Gallegos) Garcia. Ray is preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Francis and devoted daughter, Donna Garcia (Carlos Pimentel), brother, Jose F. Garcia, and sister, Bella Eva Garcia. Mr. Garcia is survived by his loving daughter, Dorothy Otero (Craig): his grandchildren: Delano Garcia (Atalie), Feliciano Otero, Elijah Pimentel (Sonya), and Maya White (John) and great-grandchildren: Francis Jane and Cyanne Garcia, and Eliz White. Surviving siblings: Jimmy (Isabella) Garcia [Santa Fe], J. David (Vera) Garcia, Marie Celina Toivanen, and Jerry (Frances) Garcia [Grants] and many caring nieces and nephews. He attended the Santa Fe School for the Deaf for his public school education. After graduation, Ray enjoyed traveling and living in different parts of the U.S and loved telling friends and family of his various experiences. He resided in Minnesota, Richmond, CA and Chicago, Ill. While attending vocational school in Chicago, he married the love of his life, Francis Baenen. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in the late 50's, where he was self-employed as a television technician. He later worked in the food service business and retired from the Veteran's Hospital. After retirement, he dedicated twelve years to the care of his wife during her long illness. Ray was a great fan of sports: baseball, football, basketball, golf, and tennis. He loved watching televised sports with family and friends. Mr. Garcia was well known in the deaf community, an active member of the Barelas SC Hearing Impaired Senior Citizens Group and received numerous awards for his continuous service and contributions to hearing impaired causes. His articulate and eloquent sign language will be missed by his family and friends. His admiring family wants to thank him for his benevolent presence in their lives. A church service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Parish in Albuquerque.

HELDENBRAND -- Lois Marie Heldenbrand, 73, went to be with her Lord on October 6, 2009. She was born in Hoisington Kansas to Eva and Gale Bickle. She married her husband Carl in 1950 in Great Bend Kansas. She and Carl were blessed with two sons whom they loved very much. The awesome two some went on to devote their lives to their two sons, daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lois always did for others whether in the form of meals, time, prayers or love. If you were her friend, you were her friend for life. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her son Curtis whom she mourned every day; also by her brothers Bob and Carl Bickle. She is survived by husband Carl whom she was so devoted to for fifty nine years; son Edward and his wife Gina of Roswell, NM; grandchildren, Valerie and her husband Robert, Jonathan and his wife Kara, and Casey Edward; great-grandchildren Taylor, James, Kadence and Lilian, all of Jacksonville, Fl.; her brother Don and his wife Chris of Hays, Ks; many nieces and nephews; her "special daughter" Pam Boggs and Ruby Palmerlee, who helped Lois in many ways; and also many cherished and devoted friends. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge. She loved the countless hours of volunteer work with the VA hospital, Girls State, and being Mrs. Santa Claus, bringing joy and happiness at the special time of the year. Everyone who knew Lois will miss her. She was a wonderful force of nature. JONES -- Benethal Bondurant Jones, born January 16, 1914 passes away at Camino Rael Nursing Home on Galisteo Street, Thursday, October 1, 2009 in the arms of her Great Grand Daughter Talara Garcia. Benethal's residential history in Santa Fe is one of seven generations of African Americans. Her family history corrects a misnomer that the southwest is only tri-cultural, that is i.e. Angalo American, Native American, and Hispanic American. She attended Santa Fe Elementary School and entered Santa Fe High School August 25, 1930. Benethal can be remembered as an employee of Sandia Girls School in Albuquerque, Hinkels Exclusive Dress Shop, and Bruns Hospital in Santa Fe. This well known and dedicated New Mexican was loved and respected during her residency in the capital city for more than 80 years. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Holt; four grandchildren: Berje Barrow-Kaiser, Bertold Barrow, Minister Regina Brown, and Bonnie Herbert; 11 great-grandchildren: Talara Garcia, DeRutter Jones, Aniesa Sepulveda, Brandon Barrow, Zavier, Soncire, Quine, and Olandre Brown, Jose, Paul and Ebony Herbert; 16 great-great-grandchildren: Alex and Nathaniel Barrow, William, Mathew and Talara Garcia, DeRutter Jr., Tasia, Makayla, Mizuki, and Takeru Jones, Berje Antone, Lorenzo, Renee, Alessandra, Angelita and Louis Sepulveda; and one new great-great-great-grandson. Funeral services are being held Friday, October 9, 2009 at Berardinelli Family Chapel, 1399 Luisa Street with a 10:00 a.m. viewing; 11:00 a.m. Service officiated by Minister Regina Brown; and funeral procession at 1:00 p.m. to Fairview Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. KEMP -- Clifford E. Kemp was called home to be with God on October 2, 2009. Born on May 2, 1920, he is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Hattie D. Kemp, son, Gordon E. Kemp,and his wife, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He will be eternally loved and missed by all who knew him. MARTINEZ -- Roseann. Loving Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend, and Coach. Roseann Martinez was born on December 31, 1972 to Juan B. and Mary Rose Martinez in Beaufort, South Carolina. Roseann's early years were spent traveling with her family; she was a daughter of a career Marine. Her family settled in Albuquerque, NM where she completed high school. Roseann enjoyed playing sports including volleyball and softball. She was an Altamont Allstar for three years. Roseann also loved music, and had a beautiful voice. After living in Washington for a brief period, Roseann moved back to Albuquerque, NM to live closer to her parents. Roseann has two boys, Ben nine years old and Jesse eight years old. She worked for Sandia National Laboratories as an administrative assistant for the past six years. Roseann spent most of her extra time with her boys as a baseball coach and football team mother. She was a very generous person with her time and energy helping others and spending time with family and friends. Roseann was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish where she was a lector and her son's are altar servers. She passed away, at the age of 36, at UNM Hospital with many family members and friends at her bedside. Roseann will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son's, Ben and Jesse Martinez; Father and Mother, Juan B. and Mary Rose Martinez; sisters, Mary "Tina" Robinson, Vivian Martinez, Lorraine Spencer; nieces and nephews, Zachariah, Christina, Dorian, Mica, Dylan, and Erica; many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. MILLER -- Donald C. Miller. A resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1948 passed away in his home at 2121 Tapia SW on October 6, 2009. Donald had a very adventurous life. Sharing it with his wife Alice Miller of 56 years, who passed in 1997, and five kids, Dude Penrod, Ronald Miller, Debbie Miller-Taylor, Donald Miller Jr., and Donita Miller; and his great extended family. Mr. Montoya is survived by his parents, Rosendo and Reina Montoya; his sisters, Cynthia Lopez and husband, Steve, Joanne Montoya and Frank Quintana, Gina Montoya and Joe Vargas; his nieces and nephews, Rachelle, Ross, Reanna and Eric; grandnieces and grandnephews, Damian, Estevan, Alejandro, Angelica, Isaiah, Diego, Eunique, and Jesse; his girlfriend, Renee Torres and children, Monica and Gabriel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Montoya was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Montoya. PADILLA -- Gilbert "Chop" Padilla, age 67, a life long resident of Manzano, NM, passed away, Monday, October 5, 2009. He was a very loving, full of life and fun person. Gilbert is survived by seven brothers and two sisters, Florencio Padilla and wife Isabel, Ernesto Padilla and wife Martha, Manuel Padilla, David O. Padilla, Albert Padilla, Candido Padilla and wife Graciella, Tommy Padilla and wife Alicia, Betty Sedillo, and MaryLou Sedillo and husband Marcos; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Gilbert will be greatly missed by all. PAGE -- George Page, 88, a resident of Albuquerque and most recently of Rio Rancho, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. George was born July 12, 1921 the son of George W. and Margaret Beamer Page in Roanoke, Virginia. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged September 10, 1945. He was assigned to the 3rd Tactical Control Group where he participated in the battles of Papua and New Guinea. He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", "Air Medal", and oak leaf cluster. He and his wife, Betty, were married in Maryland in 1962. They moved to Albuquerque, NM around 1970, where they opened their own TV repair business on Central Avenue. In 1990 they moved to Houston, TX where they lived until around 1999. But the Land of Enchantment beckoned them back. His wife Betty passed away in June 2001. George found a new passion, dancing and caring for others which he enjoyed until his passing. A man of good appetite, with thoughtful warm friends and a very strong love of young children, George will be missed. SANCHEZ -- Felix Sanchez died Monday, October 5, 2009, at his home, at the age of 60. A 25 year veteran of the Albuquerque Aviation Police, an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. Felix leaves behind his loving wife, Pauline; three sons, Eric Sanchez, Conrad Armijo and Robert Sanchez; a daughter, Melissa Garcia; six grandchildren; a brother, Ramon Sanchez; and two nieces. SANCHEZ -- Johnnie Sanchez (Boogies) 76, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 . He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Esperidion and Mary; and his brothers Richard and Larry. He leaves behind sister Joyce and her husband John; two sisters-in-law Julie and Yolanda. His three children Daughter Debbie and her four kids Desiree, Gabriel, Joshua and Noah; and his wife Sarah and his great-grandson Ayden; Daughter Pamela and her three kids Joseph, Jared, Shawndai and her husband Osmon; Son Christopher and his wife Monica their kids Liliana and Evelina. 12 loving nieces and nephews and ten great-nieces and nephews. His very special cousins Linda and her husband Albert, Rosemary and her husband Frank, Gloria, Susie, Perla and Sally and their wonderful families in New Mexico and California. He had many close friends from Leroys, Los Compadres, and from his long history of putting watch batteries at Louie's flea market. He was a very generous and giving man that will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. His Rosary will be held 8:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday October 10, 2009 at Holy Family Church celebrated by Father Jerry and Deacon Eddie Blea. SOLED -- Risa Soled (nee Usherson) born January 24, 1930, died on October 6, 2009 at age 79. Shoshana bat Leah v'Avraham, was true to her name. Shoshana means, "flower" and Risa means, "to laugh". She radiated joy and made everyone smile. Youngest child of Leah and Abraham, her older brothers Leon, Herbert, and Murray adored her. Harry, her beloved husband of 53 years, was her best friend and companion. They were inseparable and forever young lovers. Loving, warm, patient, generous, caring, nurturing-this was Risa-devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. One never heard an unkind word. She saw the best in others and overlooked the negative. She bravely dealt with the untimely death of her youngest son, Ronald, and the passing of her soul mate, Harry. She was a true Aishet Chayil - a Woman of Valor. Risa grew up in the Midwood section of Brooklyn where she attended the Yeshivah of Flatbush elementary school and Midwood High School. She raised her family there and was active in Hadassah and other Jewish charitable organizations while raising her three children - Teri, Martin and Ronald. Upon retirement, she and Harry moved to Wellington, Florida and after Harry's death, Risa moved to Calabasas, California, her final home with son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy. Risa (Usherson) Soled, is survived by daughter Teri and son-in-law Steve Harper; son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy to whom she was the mother Judy never had; granddaughter Marla and husband Adam Lewkoski; brother Herbert Usherson; and brother-in-law Alex Soled. She is also survived by nieces Sandi, Esther, Judy, Joyce, Sharon and Sheila; as well as nephews Arthur, Robert and Fred. A graveside funeral will be held at the Young Israel section of Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.

WHITE -- Charles P. White, 81, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pearl White; daughter, Marian White; grandson, Jacob Swisher; and great-granddaughters, Makaela and Nichole Swisher. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles E. White. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning home from war, he joined the New Mexico National Guard. Charlie retired after working over 40 years for J.D. Coggins & Border Machinery. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
