RAMOS -- Ralph S. Ramos. My Superman flew to heaven at 7:05 pm on July 29, 2009. He lived a fulfilled and abundantly blessed life with me, his wife, Elaine Ramos, and his two awesome daughters, Mercedes and Miranda. Strong, sweet, kind, loving, and smart were his insignia. He was born on May 17, 1959 in a clinic in Tularosa, New Mexico to his beloved parents Modesto and Maria Ramos. He grew up learning to value hard work while working at the farm and his father's car shops from very early ages until he reached college. He left his sisters; Vivian Murphy, Monica Otero, and brother; Ray Ramos a model of life worth living and one all of us will cherish, honor and respect. He received his Bachelor's in accounting in 1982 from NMSU. His work in accounting was not as rewarding as his time spent at the forest fires all over the country during the last 17 years of his employment at the U.S. Forest Service as an Assistant Director of Financial Management. Retirement began one week from March 6, 2006 after his diagnosis of a devastating terminal illness, ALS. Although severely punished by this disease for the next 3 years and 4 months, Ralph always chose to fight. He pioneered paths for living with ALS that many could not take by being the first ALS patient in New Mexico to elect a tracheostomy and ventilator support to continue life. He only did this for his family as he did "not want to miss anything" and wanted to "grow old with me". Ralph's choices during this fight were always courageous and cutting edge. He never gave up no matter how difficult each day could possibly be for him. He enjoyed living and watching his many family and friends live representing him. His journey was closely shared with many droves of volunteers of family and friends who prayed, cared, loved and supported him in all ways possible. We pray his life and faith will impact all those who loved him. Ralph wants to honor his Tularosa family by reciting a rosary at French Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Road NW, on August 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with a public viewing at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by a memorial procession to Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna Rd NE, with a beautiful tribute to his life at 2:00 p.m. and a potluck reception, "like the old days", is what Ralph requested. We want to thank you for all you did for us..God knows those hearts that give without expecting back. Thank you. Please visit our online guest book for Ralph at RememberTheirStory.com.
