ABEYTA -- Nicolas P. Abeyta, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2009. Nicolas was born June 16, 1929 to Nicolas and Antonia Abeyta of Los Brazos, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Abeyta. He is survived by his brother, J. Gabriel Abeyta of Los Ojos; his son, Nick and wife, Sandra; sons, Larquin, and Terry and wife, Debbie; daughter, Marla and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Jessica, Monica, Nicole, Marisha, Valerie, Ivan, Janelle, Melanie, Elisa, Keilah, Rikki-Lee, Kamie and Cory; one great-granddaughter, Mella Grace; and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Albuquerque on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Reception will follow.

BLOCK -- Sherry Logan February 26, 1937 - July 13, 2006 Sherry, three years ago today, God took you away. I lost my Sweetheart, my Best Friend, the Love of My life, My Beautiful, Darling Wife. You wrote in your copy of The Purpose Driven Life Journal: "It's about living life for God, not myself because my life will only last a short time and touch a few others. Where as God has touched all forever." I say her life touched many, as a teacher she touched many student's lives by sharing her wisdom with them. As a mother, she touched her children's lives, by inspiring love, honesty and compassion in them, and she touched my life by leaving me with love in my heart, that very few men have known between a husband and wife. When I go to sleep at night, I still dream of my beautiful teenage sweetheart you. As we would be parked in front of your house, after a date your mother would flash the porch light to let you know it was time to come in. I will never forget holding your hand on your death bed, as your eyes closed and your soul drifted up to heaven. I looked up and your mother flashed the light and said "Sherry, it's time to come in." DERRICK -- Kenneth H. Derrick was born November 24, 1928 in New York City and passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Grace; son, Steve and wife, Patricia, of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Dawn Cartelli and husband, Gene, of Los Alamos, NM, and Gail Derrick Ferguson and husband, Dave, of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Brian and William, both of Albuquerque; and sister, Diane Cleary and husband, Jack, of Martinsville, NJ. Ken was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving in the USMC as an air controller. He retired from the Federal Aviation Agency after 33 years of service as a supervisory air traffic controller. After retirement he worked for Hughes Aircraft in California as a Design Engineer and in Albuquerque for the Washington Consulting Group, as an instructor. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Society of Airway Pioneers. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 6:30 p.m., at French - Wyoming Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. FISHER -- W. Kimbel Fisher, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Friday, July 10, 2009. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 11, 1922, and served his country as an officer in WWII. In 1944 he married the late Anne Koniuk. He is survived by his two sons, Jeff and Toby, plus a number of family members living in the Albuquerque area. In later years, he was an active member of the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice. FURROW -- Mildred Lena Furrow, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Furrow; and three children, Orville E. GARCIA -- Fabricio (Fred) (Bob) Garcia, 98, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009. Mr. Garcia is survived by his loving wife of seventy eight years, Lugardita (Laura) Garcia; three children, Elva Bonham, Betty Bryant, Leonard Garcia (Freddie) and wife, Stella ; two brothers, Patricio (Pete) Garcia, Oscar Garcia and wife, Helen; five grandchildren, Emily Rush and Rick Aragon, Donald Bryant and Cindy Tyler and Claudette Horn; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, Escolastico and Soraida Garcia; a daughter, Irene Aragon; a sister, Benardita Gallegos; brothers, Fidel Garcia, Ross Garcia and Henry Garcia; sons-in-law, Orlando Aragon, Terrell Bonham and Gene Bryant. LONG -- Robert L. Dr. Long, 72, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 9, 2009 after a valiant battle against an aggressive form of cancer. Bob, as he was best known, was born on September 9, 1936 in the small railroad town of Renovo, PA, where he and his wife, Ann, both grew up. After graduating from Renovo High School he attended Bucknell University, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went to graduate school at Purdue University to obtain a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering. Graduation was the beginning of an adventuresome and highly rewarding career experience. Bob began his career in the Army where he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, NM. Completing his military service, he and his young family moved to Albuquerque where he taught at the University of New Mexico, eventually becoming Chairman of the Chemical and Nuclear Engineering Department. During his 13-year tenure at UNM, he and his family enjoyed further educational and career experiences in England, NY, and CA. In 1978 he decided to join General Public Utilities in NJ and was actively involved in the events and recovery following the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant incident. Bob served in various positions during his 18 years with GPU, focusing on electrical power plant safety and training. After serving as a company Vice President, he retired from GPU in 1997. He and Ann moved to Albuquerque, NM, where Bob established his own consulting company working with various government and educational agencies. He is a past President of the American Nuclear Society and has held a variety of positions at both local sections and national levels of this society. Most recently, Bob served on the Board of Directors for the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque. Through the years, Bob's many gifts and talents were expressed in countless ways. His enthusiasm and skill as a teacher of God's Word was shared with both children and adults as he taught Sunday School lessons and led Youth Group and Family activities. His love for the Lord was expressed through his love of music, as he faithfully served in many church choirs, as a member and soloist. For the past 12 years, he was a member of Sandia Presbyterian Church. His life-long interest in woodworking and railroading led to the creation of a detailed and whimsical, model Garden-gauge Railroad in his backyard, which he eagerly shared with visiting family, public and private school students, neighbors, church family, and friends. He was also an avid and consummate reader, most recently, sharing this interest with students at S.Y. Jackson Elementary School. He constantly expressed his joy in the accomplishments of his wife, children and grandchildren, encouraging each one's unique interests and goals. His wisdom, guidance, and example deeply influenced his entire family. We will continually remember his desire to live out his Christian walk as expressed in Romans 12: 11 "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." His faith, love, and support can never be replaced, and although we will all miss him terribly, we are comforted to know he is now enjoying his heavenly home and reward. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 52 years, Ann E. Long; daughter, Beth and son-in-law, Steve Gnerich and granddaughter, Julie of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughter, Amy and grandson-in-law, Mark Cook of Tucson, Arizona; son, Jeffrey Long and daughter-in-law, Laurie, granddaughter, Alessandra and grandson, Zachary of Flower Mound, Texas; and son, Mark Long and daughter-in-law, Laura, granddaughter, Nicole and grandson, Matthew of Parsippany, New Jersey. At his father's Memorial Service on February 14, 1971, Bob said, "It is not what he had, nor even what he did, which directly expresses the worth of a man, but what he was." In this memorial of his father, our dad came to the conclusion that his dad was a "toucher of lives." We could think of no better description of our own Dad. A Celebration of Bob's life will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church located at 10704 Paseo Del Norte, Albuquerque, NM. LOVATO -- Fred (Lico) Lovato, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 10, 2009. Mr. Lovato was married to the love of his life, Ofracia. They were married for 57 years when she was called away to heaven where she has been waiting for Fred to join her. Mr. Lovato is survived by his children, Katherine Nienow and husband, David, Lillian Retallack and husband, Roger, John Lovato, Linda Sanchez and husband, Denny, Roberta Woods and husband, RJ, and Fred Lovato III; a brother, Leonard Lovato; grandchildren, Judi Nienow, Jeremy Nienow, Lillian Hughes, Rudy Lovato, Daniel Lovato, Mercie Pisa, Charles Retallack, Antoinette Rivera, Cita Montoya, Denny Sanchez, Monica Sanchez, Clarence Woods, Rachel Woods, Vanessa Lovato, River Wind Lovato; twenty two great-grandchildren and his faithful dog, Teena Maree. Mr. Lovato proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Tennessee. Mr. Lovato touched the lives of so many and had always happily helped many in need of his skills and kind words. His honesty and integrity were above reproach. Mr. Lovato taught his children and grandchildren to be independent and strong and they learned by his example, wisdom and guidance. The love he showed us all can never be replaced and will be with us always. Through our faith we are comforted to know that he is with his wife, Ofracia, his son, Rudy and his baby daughter, Ignacita. Mr. Lovato is also preceded to heaven by his parents and a brother. Mr. Lovato will be missed beyond words but he will always be in our hearts. This is his legacy of which he was very proud. MAESTAS -- Michael Glenn Maestas, age 24, completed his life's journey on Wednesday July 8, 2009. Michael was born to Shirley and Wilfred Maestas on March 18, 1985, they survive him at the family home. Michael was a professional mixed martial artist and was a freestyle cage fighting lightweight champion. Michael was also studying massage therapy at Apollo College at the time of his death. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Therese Little Flower Church, 300 Mildred Avenue, NW. A Funeral Mass will also be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Therese Little Flower Church. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where Michael will be laid to rest. Michael was a beloved son, father, brother and friend. Left to cherish Michael's memory are his parents Shirley Jaramillo Maestas and Wilfred Maestas. Michael's grandparents Cory and Luvi Jaramillo and Lorraine Garduno; his two sons, Micah Maestas and Malaki Maestas; his brothers, George Maestas and his wife Alicia, Gabriel Maestas and his wife, Rachel, Daniel Maestas, and Lucas Maestas, all of Albuquerque. Other survivors include Michael's niece, nephews, relatives and special friends too numerous to mention. NICHOLS -- Harry Ross Nichols died on Monday, June 22, 2009. He was 85 years old. Harry was born on August 23, 1923 to Winfield & Herdella Nichols in East Jordan, Michigan. Harry is survived by his wife, Anne Justine Neuberg-Nichols, his two daughters, Patricia Marinelli and Lynn Soltero, and by his two granddaughters, Geriann Coultas and Rebecca Smith. Harry and Anne's only son, Win Charles Nichols, died the previous year from cerebral palsy with advanced scoliosis. Harry accomplished much in his life. After being enlisted in the Air Force for well over 30 years, he retired as an (E-8) Senior Master Sergeant in 1973. He later became a large part of the Masonic Lodge and opened his own small engine repair business, Nichols Saw Shop. Harry was a wonderful and well respected husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. No Services are scheduled at this time. RICHARDSON -- Robert Lee "Bob" Richardson, 85, went to heaven July 10, 2009 to join his beloved wife Ruth, loving mother to his children, wonderful grandmother to his grandchildren. Mr. Richardson longed to be with Ruth which he mentioned many times, not complaining, just gently reminding his family. Bob was a man whose strong faith in God and strong morals and values leaves behind a living legacy for his children and family. He was a gentle, strong and quiet man, a friend to those he met. Mr. Richardson is survived by his daughters Teri King and Jana Barker; grandchildren, Crystal Abbate and husband Joseph, Michael King and wife Jennifer, Cole and Emilee Barker. Mr. Richardson is also survived by his great-grandchildren Joseph, Jackson and Connor as well as his sister Jo Ann Cowie and husband Sandy and numerous other family and friends. ROWLAND -- Dorothy M. Rowland, 71, born February 13, 1938, in Carter Nine, OK, has found peace on July 7, 2009. Dorothy was a long time resident of Alb, NM. She is survived by her loving children, son Greg E. Thompson, and daughter Clydene A. Thompson. Five grandchildren, Gregory E. Thompson, Nicholas A. Thompson, Amy Breyer, Crystal Breyer, and Ariel Barnes. Two great-grandchildren, Jaylin Clark, and Lacy Baker. Dorothy is also survived by one brother, Johnny Rush, and two sisters Carmen Churchman, and Theresa Fitter; as well as our uncle Keith Thompson. Burial Services will be held in Maize, Kansas, on July 25, 2009. Our mother was the light of our lives, she will never be forgotten and forever in our hearts, her laughter will always be in our spirits and her strength in our blood and her love in our lives. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all that knew her but never forgotten. WARD -- Ralph "Babe" Ward, 59, an Albuquerque native who moved to California in 1974, passed away June 28, 2009, in Paso Robles, California. Like his father and grandfather before him, Babe was a carpenter working on many projects up and down the coast in the San Luis Obispo area. He was an avid fisherman and it didn't matter if he was fishing the Rio Grande box or some lake in New Zealand, he was happy as long as he had a fishing pole in his hand. In 1989, Babe had the good fortune to meet and marry Gina Denton. She was the love of his life and they were deeply committed to each other. Babe leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who loved him very much and who will miss him dearly. A celebration of Babe's life will be held at a later date He is preceded in death by his parents Malcolm and Celeste Ward; and his brothers Larry Ward and Jerry Ward, all of Albuquerque. He is survived by Gina Ward, his wife of 20 years, son Davin Ward, step daughter Amber Williams all from the Paso Robles area; step mother Elaine Ward, brothers Ronald Ward and wife Carmen of Albuquerque, and Dwight Ward and wife Chris of Savannah, Georgia.
