CRAVENS -- Richard H. Cravens, III Richard Cravens was one of few students to have access to vast collections of knowledge. The libraries, the universities, and most important, the great scholars passed along their measures of wisdom to Richard's relentless, inquiring mind. As a writer, he believed the relationship between the word and its meaning is eternal. His was the conviction of a man for whom the word and its meaning revealed the path to undreamt-of physical, mental, and spiritual capacities that might be acquired and shared with others. That was the path upon which he was set as a youth, and his footsteps never wavered. Richard's career included working for the Associated Press, as the head speechwriter and Chief of Media Relations for the United Nations Development Program, writer and editor for Time-Life Books, and writer and editor for Aperture Publishing. It was while writing the book, Health, Healing and Beyond, that he met T.K.V. Desikachar. Richard and Desikachar's book is a personal account of the teachings and life of Desikachar's father, Krishnamacharya. His experiences in living and working in India, and the spiritual teachings of Desikachar, left an indelible print on Richard, which has in turn been passed on to his family and friends. Richard laughed well, lived well, loved well and was loved in return. We will all miss him terribly. Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Michele Cravens; his daughter and son-in-law, Astrid Cravens and Eric Satre; grandchildren, Harry, Clarisse and Lorelei Cravens; sister and brother-in-law Kathryn and Juan Levy; brother and sister-in-law Van and Carol Cravens; nephews Baruch Levy, Noah Levy, and Aaron Cravens; niece Piper Wild and her children, Morgan and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Virginia Cravens.
