ARMSTRONG -- Carol Jean Armstrong passed quietly on January 30, 2009, she was 83. Her three sons, Neal, Dale, and Glen; along with five grandkids, survive her. She lived in Albuquerque since 1957, where she not only raised her family but also had a long career as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mom had a kind heart, saw the good in everyone and raised us with patience, common sense, and a firm belief in being honest. She has gone to join Dad and all her cats that have gone before. The end of an era, she truly will be missed. Instead of flowers, cards or phone calls, perform a random act of kindness in her name and be good to your animals.

KIRSCHMAN -- Joshua Kirschman, 29. Our family thanks all of you for your kind thoughts and words about Joshua and the over 450 friends and family who joined in the Celebration of Joshua's Life last Tuesday evening. We are sorry we did not get an opportunity to speak with each one of you that night. We thank all of you who gave donations, in Joshua's name, to Casa Esperanza. We thank Dawn, and the Sales And Catering staff of the Marriott Hotel on Louisiana Blvd, who were not only extremely professional but went far above and beyond in all areas to make this celebration very respectful to Joshua, whom you cared about. We thank Mike Powdrell for singing Joshua's song so beautifully to remind everyone if we could see Joshua now, we'd be very happy for him, although we will miss him for a long time. We thank Pastor Adams, of our Mountain Springs Fellowship Baptist Church, for your kind words and Spirit-filled message that Joshua knew where he was going, after his body died, without any doubt. We thank Joshua's doctors, and medical personnel and staff, at Presbyterian Healthcare Services, for the years you gave of yourselves to get to personally know him and to help ensure he had a quality of life. We thank Joshua's nurses, Maleri and Barbara for the time you gave him, talking with him, listening to him, and being a friend to him. We thank the Desert Ridge Middle School community for their love over the past 11 years. Although Joshua was terminally ill from birth, he never felt sorry for himself but lived life to the fullest, making the most of each day God gave him, making great memories, and never sweating the small stuff or any pain he was going through. Of his favorite movie quote "get busy living or get busy dying", Josh chose to get busy living. Although we will miss Joshua (his presence, humor, voice, idiosyncrasies, outlook on life, intelligence, friendship, companionship, and every other thing, no matter how small, that made Joshua who he was) until we see him again, we have no regrets for the years we had with him and are extremely thankful to God for the last 7 especially wonderful years, in addition to the 13 years Joshua lived past his 9th birthday, which was all the doctors gave him to live. Love Tammy and John (Joshua's Mommy and Daddy).

NOICE -- Lenard Eugene. Thank you from the family of Lenard "Lenny" Eugene Noice. Perhaps you brought or served food. Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest word as any friend could say. Perhaps you shared a story how Lenny had touched your lives personally. Perhaps you attended the service or the viewing, your presence comforted us. Perhaps you were not able to come but you were there in spirit praying for us that day. Perhaps you were on the train thinking about Lenny and praying for his family. Whatever part the Lord had you play to console our hearts, thank you so much and may He bless each and every one of you. What is comforting to us is knowing that Lenny was so loved; the better you knew him the more you loved him. He possessed great personal charm; people were drawn to him irresistibly. Lenny now rests in peace, but his noble and resplendent spirit remains to comfort us. He is deep in our hearts and will live on warmly for eternity. His sterling qualities and his great legacy will continue for as long as there is life within us. Despite Lenny's active life in the railroad and numerous demands upon his time, he was first and foremost a family man. He loved to be with his family and extended family. He was a devoted husband to me. He was an affectionate father to his son. The character of the life Lenny lived might be summed up in a few words: he was generous, he was self-sacrificing, and he had a servant's heart. Matthew 23:11 says, "The more lowly your service to others, the greater you are. To be the greatest, be a servant." We know God is well pleased with His good and faithful servant.

SCHMIDT -- Wilma Lucille Benjamin, (1909-2009) celebrated her 100th birthday on February 2, 2009 and died peacefully on February 3, 2009. She was the 10th daughter of 12 siblings born to Welsh parents who immigrated in 1895 with three small children to homestead in Nance County, Nebraska, an area previously settled by the Pawnees. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and graduated with an education degree in 1930. Her teaching career spanned some 40 years, she taught thousands of Nebraska youth Latin, Spanish and Social Studies (as well as self-discipline, respect, and following the golden rule). She was surprised when in 1967 the National Education Association honored her as a lifetime member after one of her classes performed the play, "No Puedo Comer La Sopa". She married the love of her life, Victor Hugo Schmidt, in 1935 . Victor served in the Pacific during World War II. Post-war they settled in Papillion, Nebraska where their family of 2 daughters grew up. Victor practiced law and then had a distinguished career serving as a Nebraska State District judge. He died in 1972. Wilma or as her many friends called her, "Billy" or "Bill" shared with Victor all the many interests and hobbies that he had, like great cooking using the freshest home garden produce and canning, but she had her eye on labor saving devices like the first automatic dishwasher. On bridge night her kids tested out the first frozen tv dinners. She loved to dance, she loved a good sale, and loved being able to trade clothes with her many sisters. She wore high heels to clean the house! She took her daughters on the train from Nebraska to go to Disneyland the 3rd day it was open in 1955-our Southern California relatives had never heard of it nor had the taxi driver! She was nicknamed the Energizer Bunny at age 99! Wilma became a grandmother at age 75, then soon moved to Albuquerque so she could enjoy watching her grandsons grow up. She really loved living in New Mexico for the past 25 years, was a member of the Albuquerque Women's Club and made friends wherever she went. Wilma is survived by the youngest of her ten sisters, Eloise Kerl of San Juan de Capistrano, California. Wilma along with her sister, Sarah Posey, lived to be over 100 years old. Wilma is also survived by: Ann Makepeace Stern and her husband Carl Stern , Amy Schmidt and her husband Herb Benedick, step-granddaughters Kelsey Benedick and Jillian Benedick all of Albuquerque. Grandsons Evan Schmidt Chase of Shanghai, China and Tyler Schmidt Chase of Tucson, Arizona both traveled to honor her at her 100th birthday celebration and they will carry her tenacity in their hearts always. She leaves behind nieces and nephews and their kids who all enjoyed Aunt Billie. Wilma's family wants to extend sincere thanks to all the loving care she received at Senior Care, Academy Heights Assisted Living and also the staff of Vista Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial chosen is the Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, Nebraska 68410. Her 100th birthday party served as the tribute to her life. Her grandson Tyler created a slideshow that can be viewed on YouTube (search Wilma Schmidt).
