BALDONADO -- Florenio B. Baldonado, age 86, beloved brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 2, 2009. He was born on March 12, 1922 in Albuquerque, to the late Nativida and Severo R. Baldonado. Florenio was proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served his country during World War II, in England, France and Germany. He was a graduate of Browning College. He retired from Sandia National Labs after 34 years of employment, where he was fondly known as "Baldy". He was preceded in death by his wife Leonila L. Baldonado, November 2004; six brothers; and two sisters. Florenio is survived by his brothers-in-law, Ross C. Lopez, Lesman Chavez; his nephew, Bonifacio Baldonado; his niece, Mildred B. Sanchez; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Florenio will be greatly missed by all. Visitations will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Monday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. CANO -- Mary Cano, born June 9, 1928 in Cedar Grove, NM, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abran and Hercualanita (Garcia) Serna; and her husband, Arturo Cano. She is survived by her siblings, Pete Serna, Olimpia Serna-Colson, Angie Buckwald, Gloria Serna, Celia Marino, and Rita Chavez; by her children, Valentino Gutierrez and his wife, Elva, Josephina (Jo) Apodaca and her husband, Albert, Joe Cano and his wife, Erika, and Rick Cano; by her seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She lived a full life and will be missed dearly. Her family will remember her fondly with many stories that will be told and re-told around dinner tables. Some of her favorite things were collecting knick knacks, walking, reading her Bible, cooking, shopping, crocheting, quilting, playing cards, spending time and laughing with her family and friends. She found joy in teaching, serving, and helping the people she loved. Services will be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 4th and Mildred NW. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Pedro Cemetery in San Pedro, NM. CARNELL -- Henry Eugene Carnell (Hank) 79, resident of Elephant Butte, NM passed away February 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; three sons, Steve and wife Linda of Colorado Springs, Robert and wife Wendy of Albuquerque, Randy and wife Eve of Seattle, WA and one daughter, Jennafer and husband Bob Daugherty of Raton, NM; as well as seven grandchildren. Hank retired from IBEW 611 and worked in the Albuquerque area for more than 30 years. An avid fisherman, he passed away while enjoying his favorite pastime. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at 214 Caballo in Elephant Butte, NM.

FORTMAN -- Joan Fortman, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family, Saturday, January 31, 2009. She is survived by her son, Stephen David Scheerer; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Toth; granddaughter, Lavendar Toth; step-daughter, Theresa Gross of Washington; step-grandchildren Gary Rambo, Dr. Deborah Sinn, David W. LILLIEQUIST -- Eric Lilliequist, 43, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Rose Marie; his mother, Ginna Ebeling and husband Jim; sisters; Maria and Jill, and brother David. Eric is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Dusty and Eloria Rhoades; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Lilliequist. Eric graduated from New Mexico School for the Visually Handicapped and then from Eastern NM University with a Bachelors degree in Broadcasting and Music. He currently worked for the Social Security Administration. Eric enjoyed baseball, loved music and food, and was an incredibly positive and kind person to know or meet. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community where he sang with his wife in the choir. LUCERO -- Frances Lucero, 83, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on February 3, 2009. Mrs. Lucero is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Mr. Avelino Lucero Sr; her children, Daisy Sedillo, Pat Lucero and wife, Orlinda, Grace C. Montoya and husband, John, Dolores Montoya and husband, Frank, Avelino Lucero Jr. and Clorinda; and Mary Lucero; two sisters, Charlotte Espinoza and Chris Saavedra and husband, Carlos; one brother: Nabor O. MARSH -- Shirley Jean Marsh, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at a local hospital. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Marsh; four children, Kim Smith and husband, Barry, their children, Brooke and Ashley Smith; Teri Whiteman and husband, Larry, and their son, Mark Whiteman; David Marsh and wife, Sammy, children, Carra Rathbun and husband, David, their daughters, Addison and Kendall, Laura Shumate and husband, Jason, and their son, Landon; Shawn Herrell and wife, Leona, their children, Alexis and Casey; and brother, Jim Ehlers. Shirley was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Whiteman. She was born in Alton, IL and attended high school in Decatur, IL. Shirley was a beloved housewife, mother, and grandmother. She nurtured and loved us all with her sweet, caring spirit. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and attending family gatherings. Shirley enjoyed reading, her computer, taking photos and traveling. She held jobs at The Pronto Mart in Bosque Farms and was a carpet store manager in Los Lunas. MARTINEZ -- Paul Anthony Martinez, age 53, beloved son, father, grandfather, and brother, was called home by His Heavenly Father, Monday, February 2, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was born on November 29, 1955 and was a resident of Albuquerque. After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1973, Paul joined the United States Navy. He retired from the City of Albuquerque, and was a member of the Blue Collar Union for 24 years. Paul enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and especially spending time with his family whom he loved so much. Paul will always be fondly remembered for his great conversations, his beautiful smile and his loving manner. He was preceded in death by his father Pete Martinez, Sr.; brother-in-law, Charles Aragon; Nephew, Jessie Martinez; and Goddaughter, Jacqueline Aragon. Paul is survived by his loving sons, Francisco E. Martinez and wife Nickole and Angelo T. Martinez and girlfriend Randi Gallegos; his precious granddaughter, Jerrikah Martinez; his loving mother Dora (Aragon) Martinez; five brothers; five sisters. MINTON -- Richard (Dick) Joseph Minton, Jr., 79, passed away February 5, 2009. He was born in Atkinson, Nebraska on October 17, 1929 to Rose and Richard Minton. He retired from the Navy after 25 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty; and one brother Larry and wife Lois Minton of O'Neill, Nebraska. Also survived by six children and spouses Rose Minton, Mardelle and Rudy Morrow, Miriam Minton, Kathy and James Ward, Tim and Melissa Minton and Colleen and Tim Burns. His beloved grandchildren who affectionately call him "Papa"; Melanie Morrow, Rebecca Minton, Michaela Morrow, Kaitlyn Ward, Angelina Minton, Brandon Ward, Timothy Brianna and Ty Minton and Riley and Lucas Burns. Dick is also survived by his in laws; Leona Hershiser and Jim and Betti Troshynski and many nieces and nephews. He also had many family and friends whom he loved dearly. MONTOYA -- Juan (John) Montoya, age 98, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and godfather, was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 4, 2008, while surrounded by his loving family. John was born on November 15, 1910 in Madrid, NM to the late Florencita and Antonio Montoya. John lived in the North Valley for many years, where he was an active parishioner of St. Therese Church, an usher, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was currently a parishioner of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Senior Group. John was hard worker always providing for his family, he was employed at Creamland Quality Checked Dairies, General Electric, and the Santa Fe Rail Road. John will always be fondly remembered as a quiet man with an increditable memory, loving, caring, generous, and always devoted to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angelica Baca; and a son-in-law, Tom Droelle. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Irene Montoya; her wonderful children who he was so proud of, Fred Montoya and wife Grace, Vicky Baca and husband Henry, Vera Gurule and Lidio Holguin, Gloria Droelle, Mary Lou Trias, Pedro Trias, Rhonda Berry, and Angelita Cazares; eleven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 58 godchildren; and numerous other loving family members and a host of friends. John will truly be missed by all those whose hearts he touched. NICKERSON -- R. Elaine (Young) Nickerson, age 90, of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Elaine was born in Honey Grove, TX to George and Reuble Young, March 5, 1918. She graduated from San Angelo High School and later became a beautician, having lived in Dallas, TX, Farmington, NM, and settling in Albuquerque in 1964. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Young, Jr., and sister, Billye Faye Hamner; her first husband Hal Mayfield, second husband Peck Bridges, and her third husband Bob Nickerson, her daughter Sharon and her grandson Rick Gilmer. She is survived by sister, Louise Burton and husband Ernest; granddaughter, Margay Erne and husband Stuart; grandson, Dana Gilmer and wife Dori; great-grandchildren, Jarrod, Max, Jacob, Briana and Siera; great-great-grandson, Easton, and long-time dear friend, Clyde "Buzz" Babcock. SILECCHIA -- Simona Eleanor Silecchia, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at St. Theresa's Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Simona was born May 18, 1923 in Manhattan, NY. She joins in heaven her predeceased husband of 48 years, Michael Peter. Simona is survived by her two sons and their families, Gary and Nanci of Albuquerque, Michael Jr. and Sherry of Jonestown, PA; and her sister, Josephine and husband, Gene, of Palm Coast, FL. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Michael, Courtney, Benjamin, and Nicholas. Simona was a dedicated mother and homemaker who sang opera and played classical piano. She was an exceptional cook, gardener, and tailor who spoke and wrote fluent Italian. Simona will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Theresa's, the staff of Ambercare Hospice, and our family and friends who helped, cared, and supported us during this trying time. SOMERVILLE -- Thomas J.C. Somerville, 60, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at his home in Silver City. Born Thomas James Cheyne Somerville to Robert and Gretta Somerville December 21, 1948 in Sacramento, California, he has lived in Las Cruces, Albuquerque and since 1992 Silver City, New Mexico. As a general contractor for over 30 years, he was a partner in Somman Enterprises, Albuquerque, and later owner of Comstock Company, Silver City, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Dora Somerville; his beloved Aunt Annie Somerville of Ballygawley, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland; and numerous relatives in the UK, Canada, and the U.S. Services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City. SWEET -- Sherman B. Sweet, 82, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Born in Madison, WI, Sherman served in the Army during WWII. After finishing his service, he attended the University of Wisconsin where he received a BBA in accounting in 1948 and a JD in law in 1950. After marrying Marilyn in 1951, they moved to Los Alamos, NM and he began working at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He served as County Probate Judge in Los Alamos County. He was Accounting Officer at LASL (LANL) from 1960 until his retirement in 1988. Sherman and Marilyn retired to Albuquerque in 1988 so they could travel, and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Sherman was a wonderful, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Truly the rock of our family, his calm and patient manner, his wisdom and warmth, and wry sense of humor were admired by all who knew him. He was always there for all of us. Family was everything to him. As an avid photographer, we were his favorite subjects, as-well-as the New Mexico landscape he so loved. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 57 years; sons, Jeffrey and wife, Sally, Doug and wife, Barb, and daughter, Peggy and husband, David Stroik; grandchildren, Moshe and Cara Sweet, Rivka and Joel Fixler, Aliza, David, Yosef, Brian and Lauren Sweet, Harry and Maddie Stroik; great-grandchildren, Rena and Dovid Sweet; his siblings, Lorraine Borsuk and husband, Jerry, Pesh Siegman and husband, Ronnie; sisters-in-law, Sylvia and Shirley Sweet; brother-in-law, Irv Pittleman and wife, June; and numerous nieces and nephews. York and husband, Harvey Friedman, Kathy York Haaland and husband, David, Susan Lee York and husband, Chris Worth, and Wendy E. York and husband, Stephen McCue. Mr. York is also survived by three grandchildren, Ryan Haaland, Maggie Worth and Alex McCue; and numerous other family and friends. Arthur retired from the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and Korea. He then went to work at Sandia National Labs as a Reliability Engineer before retiring after 21 years. Mr. York received his Bachelors Degree from the University of New Mexico the same year as his daughter Anne. Art York believed most strongly in the power of education and that his girls could do anything. He encouraged books and discouraged boys. He also believed that he didn't want to waste his life in front of the television and built not one, but two, sailboats in his garage in Albuquerque. His most recent goal was to vote in the presidential election-a goal that he happily reached. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and was so very proud of his daughters. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE.
