BAUDOIN -- Berenyce A. Baudoin, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. She is survived by her two sons, Louis P. Baudoin Jr. and wife, Patricia of Corrales, NM and Alison F. Baudoin and wife, LaVerne of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren Lisa Baudoin of Oconomowoc, WI, Suzanne Baudoin of Phoenix, AZ, Bay Baudoin of Los Angeles, CA, and Genevieve Baudoin of London, England; three great-grandsons, Ely and Noah Watson, both of Oconomowoc, WI and Maxwell Neiberg of Corrales, NM; sister, Esther Taylor of Scottsdale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Louis P. Baudoin Sr.; brothers, Edward and Carl; and sisters, Gladys Chauvin and Francis Hassing. Berenyce was born in a farmhouse in Jackson County, MN on June 19, 1924 to Oscar and Anna (Holt) Falk. She graduated from Jackson County High School in 1941, married Louis at the onset of WWII and spent the next four years bouncing around the U.S. as a pilot's wife. At the end of the war the couple spent nearly five "miserable winters" in southern Minnesota before packing up the two young boys and moving to Albuquerque. Here the family settled and lived for the next 28 years. During this time Berenyce worked as an active member of the PTA, the Cosmopolitan Women's Club, the Nor-Este Art Association and the Museum of Albuquerque. She also began to develop her love for oil painting, a pursuit that became both a passion and a career. Her paintings, mostly landscapes of the New Mexico she loved so much, are owned by people across the country. When her husband retired from Sandia Labs in 1978, the couple moved again. This time they headed south to Socorro, NM where her husband built a beautiful home, a painting studio and a workshop for the restoration of antique automobiles. During these years they toured much of the United States in their beloved Model T Ford, participated in seven cruises to various parts of the world and actively attended gatherings of "Old Pilots" from WWII. Berenyce loved the community of Socorro. She called the people there "The friendliest and kindest she'd ever known". Berenyce spent her last six months at Sandia Springs Senior Living Center in Rio Rancho, NM. The family thanks the staff there as well as Hospice New Mexico for their loving care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and Berenyce asked that her ashes be placed alongside those of her husband Louis at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Socisty. Cremation arrangements were under the care of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM. 575-835-1530.

CARMONA -- Samantha "Sam" (Houston) Carmona was born "Bonnie June Lee" . Our Sam died much too suddenly on Sunday, November 30, 2008 in her home located in Terrebonne, Oregon. She had just turned 50 years old (though she always claimed never to feel a day of her age). Sam was born in Denver, Colorado on November 4, 1958. Sam graduated from Lutheran High School in Denver. Sam was a self-made woman. She lived life to its fullest without apologies. She never met a "stranger", nor did she run from challenges-she was as generous as she was beautiful. Sam was a deeply spiritual woman who always managed to see the best in other people. Sam never met a soul in need that she wouldn't help. Anyone who met Sam, loved her right away. Her smile and laugh were infectious. Sam loved learning new things and never shirked the opportunity to do so. Her tenacity to succeed at whatever she set her sights on was simply miraculous at times. Sam, though appearing tough at times on the outside, was a sensitive and hopeless romantic inside. Her love for life was not limited to humanity. Her animals were her "Children" and she always had a bundle of them. She especially loved her dogs, and had a special place in her heart for rescuing those in the most need. She never gave up on anything. Sam was a survivor in every rite. Sam accomplished many things in her life, and nothing she accomplished was without sacrifice or hard work. Her proudest moment was when she became the first female police officer in Goldendale, Washington. Sam was brave and tenacious, and determined to be the best at anything she did. She was committed and loyal. Sam loved God and loved life. She was an eternal optimist with a distinct vision for the future and all its possibilities. Sam proudly stood for what she believed in and could be quite a bit stubborn at times. Sam was a fighter, a survivor, and a phenomenal friend. Sam was engaged to be married to a wonderful man who loved her just as much as she loved him. She is survived by her fiance Rod Rouse. She is also survived by her mother Bonnie Lee from Colorado; a sister Elizabeth Anne from Colorado; a sister Rebekah "Becky" from Hawaii; and a brother George Jr. She is also survived by numerous friends too numerous to list - both locally and from coast to coast. We will miss her dearly, and wish her nothing but peace. Namaste'. A private viewing will be held at Autumn Funeral Home in Redmond, Oregon before the Memorial Service. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. as follows: Redmond Assembly of God 1865 W. Antler Ave. Redmond, Oregon In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that financial donations for her funeral costs, cards, and letters may be sent to Rod Rouse, 19430 NW Smith Rock Way, Terrebonne, OR 97760.

GROFFMAN -- Charles Carlton Groffman was born in Chicago on January 15, 1923. Charles grew up in Manitowac, Wisconsin on the west side of Lake Michigan. His father owned and ran a successful apothecary in Manitowoc. His mother was, for a time a successful school teacher, and directed and produced plays. Probably of great influence was the German and Norwegian cultural heritage on his father's and mother's sides of the family. It is easy to imagine Norse mythology, Viking adventurous exploring, Germanic sense of order and artistic musical excellence being fundamental. He combined a great sense of humor with an intense curiosity of man's history and wild cultural variability around the world and across time, and the wonders of the natural world in which he lived. This helped to propel Charles into a long life that included much international and domestic travelling and exploring places; learning a smattering of foreign languages, and feeding a hunger for knowledge of new experiences and peoples and cultures. As a boy he liked adventures. He owned and sailed a small boat, preferring roughening weather, on Lake Michigan. Some friendships were maintained for a lifetime. He joined the Merchant Marine and sailed in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, and the Eastern Pacific Ocean, then served in the Navy on a destroyer (the Twining) during WWII, protecting convoys crossing the treacherous North Atlantic. He married Lillian after the war, living in New Mexico, Wisconsin, and California, finally settling in Albuquerque in 1953. Eventually he and his wife earned degrees in education and both taught for the Albuquerque public schools. Both were successful and excellent teachers and helped many people along the way. They had four children. Charles also published educational film strips on subjects mainly having to do with life and industry in rural and small urban Mexico, the United States, and Canada. He also wrote children's books, submitted for but never published. He and his wife labored long and hard building and remodeling their adobe house near Old Town. Divorced in the early 1970's, he then lived in the North Valley. He continued to enjoy some great neighbors and an eclectic array of friends, read books, enjoyed listening to different kinds of music, the company of old friends, artists and musicians and educators, collected stamps and enjoyed going to club meetings and auctions, and sought interesting knowledge and stories. Deteriorating health made travel difficult, especially to a ranch property near Cuba where he loved to spend time. He was married once more for a time to Betty Colbert, a long time friend, and added two stepdaughters to his family. With the help of many people, Charles was able to stay out of nursing facilities and remain in his little gallery of a house until death. He is survived by his cat Pretzel, now living with a dear friend, and several children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and his sister Jean. Charles died in Albuquerque on November 15, 2008 at home with Pretzel at his side, surrounded by many family members of several generations. IGLESIAS -- Rev. Claudio Iglesias The Reverend Claudio Iglesias, 85, a long term Albuquerque resident, went home to be with the Lord he served for a lifetime. His transition to glory was December 1, 2008. He lived an abundant life and helped countless people in his journey through life. A member of Panama's indigenous Kuna Nation, Rev. Iglesias came to the United States in 1936 as a 13 year old boy and began his American adventure in Ellis Island, NY. He was the youngest of twelve children and the son of a medicine man. He received his education at Bacone College in Oklahoma and attended Houghton College in upstate New York, Nyack College in New York and graduated from Redlands University in California in 1951. He became the second Kuna to receive a college degree. He was married to the former Margaret Geiger in 1949 and they served as missionaries in Panama for many years with the Southern Baptist Convention and Wycliffe Bible Translators before pastoring churches in Oklahoma, Gallup, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. As missionaries in Panama, Claudio and Margaret established a grade school that educated a generation of future Kuna leaders and performed medical and dental services to an island with no health care facilities. Rev. Iglesias greatest legacy, however, was helping to create the Kuna alphabet and translating the New Testament into Kuna. Fully tri-lingual and tri-cultural, Rev. Iglesias always had a kind word to say to everyone and lived out his joyous faith day by day. Even after retirement, Rev. Iglesias led groups of short-term missionaries from Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque to the San Blas Islands in Panama. He performed this service well into his 70s. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Geiger Iglesias, of Keller, TX, three children; Lorena and Bill Heydenburk and their family of Keller, Texas, Marina Iglesias of Panama City, Panama and David and Cynthia Iglesias and their family of Albuquerque, NM. He was the proud grandparent to Angie and Chris Price and their family of Keller, Texas, Melinda and Shane Graham and their family of Keller, TX, Joel and Courtney Heydenburk of Ft. Worth, TX, Daniel and Carrie Vidal and their family of Santa Fe, NM, Ben Vidal of Santa Fe, Jonathan and Meng Vidal and their family of Vero Beach, FL, Marina Margaret Morales-Iglesias of Panama City, Panama and Claudia, Amanda, Marisa and Sophia Iglesias of Albuquerque. MALONEY -- Margaretta Coulter Maloney (Peggy) was born July 7, 1952. She spent her early childhood on the shores of Mono Lake in Lee Vining, CA, then moved to Los Angeles where she attended The Oakwood School. She went on to UC Santa Cruz before moving to Albuquerque where she earned an MFA at the University of New Mexico. From an early age, Peggy was a uniquely creative individual, who expressed herself through many art forms, including painting, embroidery, sewing, and jewelry. Her artwork was shown in galleries in Colorado and New Mexico. She also taught art and jewelry classes at Fort Lewis College, the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Club and to private groups. Her work and that of many of her students is currently on display at the Durango Arts Center Peggy was a strong presence for good in the universe, a forceful, resourceful person with a penetrating intellect and a wide-ranging curiosity. She was capable: whatever she did, she did well -- mending a broken tool, coaxing a beautiful garden from a rocky patch, preparing a campfire supper or writing congressmen with strong political views. She was generous with herself and her knowledge, kind and thoughtful in her actions toward friends and students. Peggy was an original, strong pioneer woman, not afraid to be alone and not afraid to truly be with others. She loved nature, the West, her friends and most of all, her precious kitties. When Peggy wrote about her work, she spoke of "transformation, simultaneity, and endurance," concepts that may help the many loving friends she leaves. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Maloney; mother, Adele Coulter Maloney; and her aunt Peg, Margaretta Maloney; and cousin, June Taylor. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Maloney Bellomo (Joe); aunt Georgette Coulter Tingle; and cousins: Bill Thomson (Wynn), Wallace Albertson, Ruth Taylor, Maura Dhu Studie (Wes), Gerald Taylor (Shelley), Denny Tingle, Brian Tingle and Carolyn Mutamba. A Gathering in her Honor will be held at the Durango Arts Center on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to The Durango Arts Center, (Education Fund) 802 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, Colorado 81301
