ANDERSON -- Harold L. Anderson, 87, passed away Friday, November 28, 2008. He was born in Fullerton, KY and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was known to his friends as Andy. Harold served during WWII as a Navy pilot. He graduated from Iowa University with his engineering degree and worked for GE until 1958. In 1959 the family located in Albuquerque and he worked for Sandia National Labs and retired after 32 years service as an Electrical Engineer. He was a past president of the Albuquerque Lions Club and was a long time member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Andy was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorigen and his sister Pauline Thieken. He is survived by his daughter Vicki Stewart and husband Mike; grandsons Christopher Stewart and wife Stephanie and Matthew Stewart; great-granddaughter Kaylee; and his caregivers Betty Montoya, Sandra Anaya and Peggy Kettle and their families. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at French Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. Services will be Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at French Lomas Chapel. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE with military honors. DAVIS -- William A. "Skinny" Davis, 99, a resident of Truth or Consequences since 1932 died at the New Mexico State Veterans Home with his family by his side. He was born November 3, 1909 in Globe, Arizona Territory to Charles W. Davis and Winifred Black Davis. Mr. Davis graduated from Globe High School in 1929 and went to college at Arizona State University. He received his Pharmacy License in 1935, married Bonnie Cain in 1941 and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly thereafter. Mr. Davis served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945, spending the last two years in the South Pacific. He was discharged as a Chief Pharmacist Mate. Davis was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and two Campaign Ribbons, American Theater and Asiatic Pacific. "Skinny" was a member of the American Legion and a Life Member of the V.F.W. He and Clifford Fleck opened the Davis-Fleck Drug Store in 1946 and operated it until 1981. The pharmacy has been serving Sierra County for over 60 years. He retired from pharmacy when he was 90 years old. Davis served the TorC community as a Commissioner in the 1950's; Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Library Board, Fiesta Committee, and Bank Director for 33 years for the Bank of the Southwest. In 1986, "Skinny" was honored by Ralph Edwards with the prestigious "This Is Your Life" award. Davis was a member of the Truth or Consequences Trap Club since 1945, and was inducted in the New Mexico Hall of Fame. He was past-president of the New Mexico Trapshooting Association, and a Life Member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Cain Davis in 1980, a granddaughter, Tessa Bruton, sister, Vadra Hogan and brother, Harold Davis. He is survived by a son, Douglas C., Davis (Leslie) of Engle; a daughter, Bonnie Davis Bruton (Jack) of Magdalena; brother, Gene Davis (Carol) of Mesa, Arizona; Grandsons, Beau Bruton (Autumn) of Cliff; Broc and Brett Bruton of Magdalena and Beau Priest of Saipan. Granddaughters, Mistri Sharp and Cresta Davis of Los Lunas, and Chelsea Davis of Costa Mesa, California. Great-Grandchildren, Cayden Sharp, Aspen and Sienna Bruton, William Priest and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. Memorial Services were held at the First Baptist Church, TorC, on November 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Cain Officiating. MAHEDY -- Paul Fredrik Mahedy, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife Helen; son Hughie Mahedy; daughter Paula Mahedy-Aragon and husband, Vincent and grandson, Nicholas R. Aragon, all of Albuquerque. He proudly served for three years in the U.S. Marine Corps before moving his family to Albuquerque from Massapequa, New York in 1971. Paul was a supervisor in the Line Department of the Public Service Company of NM until he retired in 1997 after over 25 years of working with his "guys". He always gave his utmost devotion, love and loyalty to his family. He truly lived the Marine Corps motto Semper Fidelis. His second great love was his sailboat which provided countless hours of enjoyment for the whole family cruising the beautiful lakes in New Mexico accompanied by the family cats. A Rosary will be recited in the Chapel of the Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 6:30 pm. SANCHEZ -- Maria Concepcion "Concha" Sanchez, a resident of Belen, NM peacefully joined our Lord and Savior, angels and saints, ten days shy of her 100th birthday. She was surrounded by her loving family who sang "Happy Birthday" just before her passing on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Concha was born in Torreon, NM on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception to Juan Bautista Chavez and Aurelia Emilia (Sanchez) Chavez. For the past two and a half years, she was a resident of The Center for Ageless Living in Tome, NM and lived in Belen most of her adult life. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church where she was active in the Spanish Choir, Blessed Sacrament Society, Sacred Heart League and Servite Order of the Servants of Mary. Concha loved her job at The Los Lunas Hospital and Training School where she retired after 25 years of outstanding service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. All who knew her raved about her baked goods, especially her delicious pastelitos and bizcochitos. Her grandchildren and many others still cherish her crocheted afghans. Concha was a woman of deep faith who prayed unceasingly; she never preached or made others feel as though she was judging them. She enjoyed the simple joys of life and gave her gift of unconditional love and unselfishness by teaching others to be faithful, prayerful, patient, forgiving, and compassionate. She was a woman who always found the best in people and she did this without wavering from her strong Christian beliefs. Those of us who knew her will forever feel the stamp of her quiet wisdom. We loved her and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael Sanchez; infant children, Mary and Jack Lawrence; parents, Juan and Aurelia Chavez; sisters, Lupita Madril and husband, Sabino and Vina Olguin and husband, Gillie; brothers, Antonio Chavez and wife, Florinda, Ezequiel Chavez and wife, Flora, Eutemio Chavez and wife, Ramona, Alejandro Chavez, Edenio Chavez, Max Chavez and Daniel Chavez, Paul Chavez and wife, Juanita George Chavez and wife, Eva, Ray, Benny, and Andres "Andy" Chavez and sister-in-law, Mable Chavez. She was also preceded in death by her loving grandson, Ryan Maes and her loving great-granddaughters, Kierstin Sanchez and Claire Baca. Concha is survived by her two loving sons, Deacon, Norbert Sanchez and wife, Linda of Albuquerque, Alex Sanchez and wife, Milli of Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Dolores Garcia and husband, Joe T. of Belen, Ida Rios of Belen, Sophie Baldonado and husband, Albert of Albuquerque, Lillian Ortega and husband, Frank of Los Alamos, NM; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Ignacio, whom she raised like a son, Abran Chavez and wife, Joan, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Elsie and sisters-in-law, Ernestina Chavez, Esther Chavez, Mary Chavez and Ophellia Chavez. The family would like to give a special thank you and recognition is graciously extended to her caretakers at Senior Living System and Presbyterian Hospice. Ann and Bill Hancock's faithful visits to our mother every Sunday. It did not go unnoticed and will forever remain in our hearts. Also a special thank you to Dicky Romero who we always referred to as our "other brother" because he always made Mama feel like the special woman that she was. All Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation on Monday, December 1, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Officiating at her Funeral liturgy will be Fr. Stephen Schultz. Priests and Deacons of the Archdiocese will also be in attendance to concelebrate Dona Conceptions most Holy Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Raphael. SANTIAGO -- Richard M. "Feetch" Santiago, 53, passed away November 27, 2008. He was born October 27, 1955 in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his brothers, Domingo Santiago and Robert Santiago; sister Margaret Torres; other family and friends. Richard will be very well missed. Thanksgiving will never be the same. We love you dearly. SANTILLANES -- Luis Santillanes, Jr. "Papa Lou" October 9, 1928 - November 27, 2008 Luis was born to Rosa Santillanes de Martinez and Luis Santillanes on October 9, 1928 in the village of Los Tomases in Northwest Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1946 where he was in track and held the "Miler" record for a number of years. Luis served his country Honorably during the Korean Conflict stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Upon returning from the service, Luis met and married the former Arlene Montoya. Luis took his new bride to Los Angeles, CA where he attended Barber School. Their first son Albert was born March 9, 1956. Soon to follow were sons Arthur February 2, 1958 and then Edward May 17, 1959. Shortly after their youngest was born, the Santillanes's returned to Albuquerque to be closer to their families. They soon began to build their adobe home in the community of Alameda with their love, sweat, tears and blood and the help of their families. Arlene will continue to reside at the home built on land handed down from her parents, Alberto and Adelicia (Alice) Montoya (Tafoya). This is land that has been held in the family since 1932. Luis was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #69 and of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired Teamster having worked for ICX, Whitfield and ABF Freight companies. He couldn't sit still so he went back to work at St. Joseph's Hospital in the Grounds Maintenance Department. He retired for good in 1993. After retiring, Luis enjoyed his time with his family traveling to Las Vegas, San Francisco, Florida and a few cruises. Dad also enjoyed many hunting trips throughout his life with friends and family, memories that will always be cherished. Mom and dad recently celebrated their "53rd" Anniversary together. We are very thankful to have celebrated Dad's "80th" Birthday in October and especially thankful to all who were able to attend! Dad will certainly be missed by all who knew him and his humorous ways! Dad was preceded in death by his sons, Arthur in August 1992 and Albert in March 1997. He was also preceded by his parents Luis and Rosa Santillanes; parents-in-law, Alberto and Alice (Tafoya) Montoya, and Nick Tafoya; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Herrera and Edwina Santillanes; his special cousin Henrietta Smith; and by brothers-in-law, Rumaldo Armijo, John T. Roybal, Ambrosio Gonzales, and Fred Herrera. Dad is survived by mom, Arlene; his son Eddie and wife Jeri; and grandson Daniel. He is also survived by "The Daughter He Never Had", Sandra (Montoya) Benavidez and husband David; daughter-in-law, Isabel Santillanes; his brothers, William (Billy) Santillanes and wife Ellen; sister, Maria (Lala) Roybal, sister Victoria Armijo; brother, Joseph Santillanes, brother Maurice Santillanes and wife Nancy, brother Orlando Santillanes; sisters-in-law, Lydia Gonzales, Geri Lee and husband Charley; and brother-in-law (son) Andrew Tafoya and wife Kathryn. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitations will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. VARGAS-GARNER -- Sean Tomas Vargas-Garner, our beautiful baby boy went to eternal rest in the hours before his delivery on Thursday, November 27, 2008, he was received by his two heart-broken mothers. Sean is survived by his two loving mothers, Sherri M. Garner and Dinah G. Vargas, both of Albuquerque; grandparents, Gloria and Petronilo Vargas of Albuquerque, and Judy and Bill Snelson of Los Lunas; five aunts, Denise J. Vargas and husband, Jeff Conely, Deborah L.Vargas and spouse, Nathaniel Olayer, Desiree M. Vargas, all of Albuquerque, Brandi Snelson and Nikki Brey; one uncle, David Garner; two half brothers, Chris and Clayton Jones, both of Los Lunas; cousins, Benjamin Vargas, Liam Conely, Leilani Olayer, Luke Vargas, Ernesto Vargas and Isabel Vargas; as well as many other family members. Ernesto Vargas has been chosen and named godfather to Baby Sean. Play much and sleep well lil' guy. We conceived you with love and grace. We will not rest until we have you back in our arms.
