ARGUELLO -- Carlos "Charlie" Arguello, age 64, of Tijeras, succumbed to his courageous battle with cancer, Monday, November 24, 2008. Carlos was raised in Vaughn and graduated from Vaughn High School in 1961. He served his country in the US Army during Vietnam. Carlos is survived by sister, Patricia Aragon and husband Bob; daughters, Veronica Suarez and Yvette Guzman and husband Eli; sons, Raymond Arguello and wife Sara, David Quist, and Richard Caccamise; and his beloved grandsons, Israel and Emanuel Guzman; beloved granddaughter, Sara Sinclair; longtime girlfriend and companion Jenika Mayer; and numerous other family members. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio and Josephine Arguello and his great-granddaughter, Leila Serrano. BACA -- Roland Baca was born December 28, 1935 in Pena Blanca, NM. He passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sigfredo Baca Sr. and Fulgencia Baca; his brothers, Danny Baca and Ted Baca. Roland is survived by his four sisters, Loyda Pogorelic, Sylvia Aguilar, Mary Garcia and Eileen Gallegos; three brothers, Sigfredo Baca Jr. of California, Herman Baca and Frank Baca of Albuquerque; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. BROWN -- William (Bill) Brown, 68, a resident of Tijeras, died Saturday, November 22, 2008. He is survived by his son David Brown and wife Jessica; daughter Cindy Stein and husband Mike; and grandchildren Lauren Brown and Jake Stein. William was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia. William dedicated his life to ensuring the safety of others as a firefighter. He spent his retirement volunteering at numerous wildlife refuges, most notably at Wildlife West Nature Park, where he helped raise and served as main caretaker of Moon Shadow, a 150 pound mountain lion. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 3:00 p.m., at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood. BUTEAU -- Richard (Dick) Neil Buteau, Sr., 72, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on November 22, 2008. Richard was born February 12, 1936, the son of Ernest and Shirley Buteau in Skowhegan, ME. Dick served his country with the Army National Guard, and the Air Force. He worked for Brookhaven National Laboratory, and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was a dedicated husband and father, an accomplished musician, and a Master Technician. He was preceded in death by one son, William. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia; sons Ric and wife Aleta, and Timothy; grandchildren, Jennifer, Austin, and Jacquelyn. The visitation for Richard will be held today, Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. CANDELARIA -- Joseph J. Candelaria, born September 10, 1935 died November 23, 2008 at Princeton Place Nursing Home where he received exceptional care during his last years. James graduated from Albuquerque High in 1954, served in the US Navy until 1956 when he received an honorable discharge. He lived in San Bernardino, California until his return to Albuquerque in 1989. His passion for music drove him to become a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in both California and New Mexico. James' love to help others gave him the compassion and patience to volunteer over 10,000 hours in the years he dedicated to the VA Hospital. During this time he made countless friends through his overwhelming sense of humor. James was preceded in death by his father, Jose Ignacio; mother, Rosa; sisters, Sefora and Dominica; and brothers, Alberto, Trancito (Jerry), Juan (Johnny), and Ramon. James is survived by his son, Michael, 27; sister, Ella Montoya, 91; brother, Tom, 77, and wife, Rosie; brother, Joe A., 75; brother, Eloy (Blackie) 72, and wife, Terri; sister-in-law, Mary; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. CARSON -- Donald W. Hastings resident, Donald W. Carson, 81, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at his home. Services will be at a later date in Colorado. The body was cremated. (Kline) Carson in Geneva, NE. He was in the Navy during WWII as a radioman in Shanghai, China from November 22, 1944 to July 23, 1946. He worked in sales and estimating for floor coverings and pre-cast concrete. He had lived in the Hastings area for 16 years. He is survived by one daughter, Deborah L. Carson of Arvada, CO; and two sons, Michael R. Carson of Arvada, CO and Wayne D. Carson of Denver, CO; three grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. CURETON -- Jane L. Cureton, 88, formerly of Silver City, passed away November 16, 2008 in Bainbridge Island, WA. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Silver City with a Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Goble officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Jane was born in Santa Rita, NM to Jesse L. and Edith M. Turner. The family moved to Silver City when she was school age and she attended Teachers' Grade School and High School. She attended Colorado Women's College and the University of Colorado and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She was chosen to be among the first airline stewardess for Continental Airlines and was selected to be their poster girl. Jane was married to James L. Hart, MD in 1942 and they had one daughter, Mary Edith. She later returned to Silver City and married James S. Cureton, to whom she has been married for 57 years. They have two children, Sam Cureton (Nicky) and Alice Bundrant. After her children were born, Jane returned to nursing and continued in her much loved profession until retirement. She served a school nurse for the Lordsburg School District for about twenty years. She then nursed at the Lordsburg Hospital and the local nursing home. She was known for her compassion and her ability to secure resources for those in her community. She served on the Gila Regional SWISH Board and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Tyrone Chapter. Jane was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary of the Gila Regional Hospital and was an active volunteer. Jane was a member of Silver City First Baptist Church and taught an adult Sunday School Class there for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Edith and Alice; her son Sam; seven grandchildren, Eda Jane and James Canniff, Chance, Erin and Paige Cureton, Brittany and Logan Bundrant; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Frieda Roach and brother-in-law, Tom Baker as well as many extended family members. She had been living near her daughters the past year in Seattle, Washington, when she departed from us. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. FORT -- Frank Wilburn Fort, age 36, former Nara Visa, NM resident now residing in Flower Mound, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, November 21, 2008. Frank was born May 13, 1972 in Dalhart, TX. He had been making his home in Flower Mound, TX where he stayed with his friends Margaret and Jeremy Pieratt and their children. Margaret was with him in Albuquerque last Friday where they both passed away. He graduated from the Logan High School in 1990 and later received a BA degree in education from ENMU in 1994 and later earned his Masters in Education from New Mexico Highlands University. Most of his career was spent in education, he was involved at both the state and federal levels with numerous student leadership groups especially FFA and FCCLA. He had worked for both ENMU and the NM Department of Education. He was most recently employed at Pegasus Solutions in Dallas as a training specialist which allowed him the opportunity to travel all over the U.S., Europe and parts of South America. Frank was also a motivational speaker who spoke at numerous conventions, trainings and graduations. He supported breast cancer research and this past fall, ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in honor of Margaret Pieratt's mother and Joan Hargrave, his aunt. He also actively supported AIDS research. Surviving Frank are his parents, Ralph and Jan Fort of Nara Visa, NM; his sister Wendy Branstine and husband Matthew and their children Nikolaus and Renate. Frank's brother, Ferd Fort of Dalhart, TX. Also surviving are numerous loved ones, and close friends. Words can not express how much he will be missed. Services celebrating his life will be Wednesday morning, November 26, 2008 in Nara Visa, NM in the Nara Visa United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., Central Time (10:00 a.m. Mountain Time). FRAIRE -- Angie M. Fraire, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Albuquerque at the age of 66. Angie was born December 14, 1941 in Arroyo Seco, NM. She later relocated to Tularosa, NM and finally settled in Albuquerque. She is preceded in death by her father, Jose de la Luz Baca; and two children that died in infancy, Jeanie and Ralph. GAFFNEY -- Frederick Gustavous Gaffney Jr., 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1999, passed away peacefully November 17, 2008. Fred, a retired military officer, was a lifelong Shriner, and member of the Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Optimist Club. He was preceded by his loving wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his children, Fred and Suzie Gaffney of Juneau, Patricia Gaffney Thomas of Austin, Theresa Gaffney of San Francisco, Michael and Bonny Gaffney of Albuquerque. He has nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who adore him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A private family memorial will be held.

HOUGHTON -- Doris M. Houghton, 79, born June 19, 1929, went home to be with her husband and her Lord Jesus Christ on November 22, 2008 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald Houghton; her parents, Oma Louetta Lappin and Marion Lappin; grandson, Jonathan Owens; sisters, Winona and Dolores Lappin; and step-mother, Edna Lappin. Doris was born in Dodge City, KS and settled in Albuquerque with her family in 1939. Doris is survived by her children, Albert Houghton, Pamela Kirkpatrick and husband Allen, Donna Houghton, Janetta Houghton, Cynthia Houghton, Tina Sieg and husband Wayne, grandchildren, David and Benjamin Owens, Rick and Leslie Kirkpatrick, Marcella Houghton, Kienan and Kyle Sieg; sister Norma Franklin; brother Harold Lappin and wife Maria. JARAMILLO -- Bernadita Jaramillo, 98, a life long resident of New Mexico, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Bernadita is preceded in death by her husband Facundo Jaramillo, her parents Miguel and Concepcion Martinez; her sons Frank, Alonzo, and Dan. MADRID -- Gilbert J. Madrid, Sr., age 45, beloved father, grandfather, son, and brother, was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Gilbert was born on August 22, 1963 in Albuquerque, NM, and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernie; and a nephew, Jason. MILES -- Robert "Bob" Lyle Miles M.D. - March 3, 1931 - November 20, 2008 Bob passed on peacefully in Albuquerque, NM where he has resided for the last four years. He was born in Beckley, WV. He spent his early years growing up there and in New Martinsville and Warwood, WV. He was raised by his parents Minor Carson Miles, DD, a pastor of the Methodist Church and Eva Elise Miles who played the piano for the church. He graduated from Marshall University in 1952. Helping others in need would be his chosen path. He followed his two brothers to medical school at West Virginia University. He later transferred to the Medical College of Virginia where he graduated in 1956. He moved to Santa Barbara, CA and interned at Cottage Hospital. He practiced medicine for seven years and then did his residency in Radiology at Cottage Hospital. During this time, he joined the National Guard, he was very proud of this as he loved his country. He continued his passion throughout his life. He was able to practice medicine and make a difference in many places: Plattsburgh, NY; Athens, GA; Wheeling, WV; St. Thomas, USVI; Seneca, SC; St. John's, Antigua; Clemson, SC. He worked as a Sideline Physician in the earlier years with his kids' schools and for Clemson University while employed at Redfern Health Center on campus. He was Chief of Staff in Seneca, SC at Oconee Memorial Hospital. He had a passion for helping people, especially people who were less fortunate than he. He volunteered a lot of his knowledge for those who could not pay. He felt great pride and happiness in helping others. Some of his major accomplishments have been introducing and being responsible for bringing much needed medical technology to many under developed islands in the Caribbean over the years, including St. Thomas, Antigua and St. Kitts. He loved the Caribbean, the people, the white sand, scuba diving, and the blue waters. In death he has joined his mother, Eva Elise Miles; father, Minor Carson Miles, DD; brothers, Harold Miles, M.D.; Howard Miles, M.D., sister, Faye Miles Potter; his daughter, Wendy Leigh (Miles) Caraway and his beloved wife, Marilyn. He leaves sons, Robert H. Miles, Charles E. Miles, Scott E. Miles, Jason H. Miles; and daughter, Jill Miles-Broomhall; and his wonderful grandchildren Amy P. (Miles) Bowman; Paul R. Miles, Nicholas J. Vargo , Jessica L. Broomhall and Kelly Anne Miles. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He struggled with Alzheimer's disease for the last five years and was a firm believer in the Hospice program. He got involved as much as he could in his early years in Albuquerque with the Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico. He touched so many young people who cared for him right till the end of his life. QUINTANA -- Francisco S. Quintana, 79, a resident of Albuquerque passed away November 23, 2008. Mr. Quintana is survived by his children, Frank Quintana and wife, Veronica, Jackie Quintana, Vicki Romero and husband, Benny, Harold Quintana and wife, Debora; sisters, Mercy Trujillo and husband, Raymond, Angie Gonzales, Dolores Baca and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Nicole, Andrea, Robert, Danette, Jennifer, Francisco, Jonathan, Betty; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Justin; many extended family members and friends. Mr. Quintana was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; daughter Debbie. Mr. Quintana was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. RHOADES -- Plez Rhoades, 94, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 23, 2008. Plez was preceded in death by Rotha Rhoades, his wife of 52 years. Plez is survived by his niece, Betty J. SIERRA -- Arturo Sierra, born October 16, 1948 in Moline, IL died peacefully at home on November 5, 2008. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Adela and John Sierra. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Leslie Oakes of Peralta; his son Simon Sierra; daughter Carmen Luz Sierra; and their mother Theresa Sierra of Albuquerque; sisters Mary Sierra Lopez of Texas, Rachel Sierra and Mariana Sierra of California, Barbara Sierra and Caroline Sierra of Illinois; brother John William "Bill" Sierra of Colorado; and their spouses and children. Arturo grew up in Illinois and attended Western Illinois State University where he obtained both Bachelors and Masters degrees. He worked as an advocate of first generation and underrepresented students for over 30 years at Blackhawk Community College, the University of Iowa and at the University of New Mexico as director of the College Enrichment Program. After leaving UNM, he became a licensed massage therapist working in both Los Lunas and Albuquerque. In recent year, he enjoyed traveling through Europe and Mexico where he gained many close friends. Arturo was a man with deep spiritual beliefs who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Final Service will be held later in East Moline, IL.

VASQUEZ -- Santino Reyes Vasquez, born October 26, 2008, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Santino is survived by his loving parents, Jose Juaquin Vasquez and Veronica Franchesca Castro; his siblings Michael Anthony Tesillo, Jose Raymond Vasquez, Samantha Vivianna Vasquez and Lunamarie Alexandra Vasquez. He is also survived by his grandparents Alfredo Vasquez, Diana Vasquez and Diana Castro; great-grandmother Faye Lujan; great-grandfather Melchor Lujan; great-grandmother Veronica Patricia Castro; uncles Michael Barnes, and Raymond Segura; aunties Denise Segura and Cecilia Castro; and many cousins. Santino is predeceased by his uncle Ray Reyes Molina. A visitation will be held Friday 12:00 p.m, at the Stover Chapel of Garcia Mortuary with a Graveside Service following at 1:00 p.m., at Fairview Memorial Park. WOOD -- Clifford Bearan Wood, 83, was called home to join his heavenly Father early Sunday morning, November 23, 2008. Though time took his body and his soul lives with the Lord, his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him. A veteran of World War II, he served his country as a Navy machinist mate on both the European and Pacific fronts. He was a very successful businessman and accomplished pilot. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma Wood; daughter, Joyce Cox and husband, Ross; grandson, Jimmey Cox and wife, Cathy; great-granddaughters, Darla, Jamie and Krystal Cox; brother, John Wood and wife, Jean; and sister, Betty Thomas.
