HEARN -- Laura Margaret Holden Hearn, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away October 28, 2008. How to summarize 94 years of an amazing wonderful woman.....She was a woman of fierce intelligence, independent spirit and sharp wit. After 55 years of life on Propps street, she thought it ironic that she started her adventure on a farm in Hartford, KS and spent her last few months on a farm on the Isleta Reservation where death came gentle and kindly. Born on April 10, 1914, Laura was the second child of five children born to Susan Mary Rector and Raymond Robert Holden. Her sister Irene and brothers Bob and Leo preceded her death. Sister Dorothy lives on to share many childhood memories. Her brother-in law, Gerald Klenke remains as her closest friend. She graduated from Spearville High School during the war she worked with Red Cross, Gwinners and the Monument Company. She traveled to California with friends and ended up in Albuquerque where her father promptly purchased a bus ticket for her to get home. The adventure continues in 1945 when she fell in love with a soldier when he was home on leave. On March 4, 1946 she married the soldier, Carl E. Hearn and settled in Kansas. They were blessed with two daughters, Nancy Jeanne and Judith Diane. They moved to Albuquerque in 1953 and two more daughters, Gail Elizabeth (named after Carl's mother) and Jennifer Lea completed the Hearn family. Along with their daughters, weekends were spent camping out in the Santa Clara Mountains and as they were, founding members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, many church activities. At 60 years of age, Laura hiked the La Luz trail - twice. After dad married us off - Mom and Dad traveled, gardened and started to enjoy grandchildren. Carl died in 1989 and this independent woman continued on-keeping up with grandkids. Travels to Disneyland, Mount Rushmore (stopping to gamble in the Black Hills), bluebonnets in Austin, TX, and at 83 years old, her journey to the Castles and hillsides of Ireland are great memories to all. She loved her cross word puzzles, wine, chocolate, family and friends. Left to share memories are Nancy and Albert Leonard Lente, Judith and Bob Mitchell, Gail and Mike Baca, Jenni and Randy Austin. Left to honor her are her grandchildren Kevin Lente and wife Susan, Kim Lente Artman, and husband Rick, Aaron Mitchell and wife Tammie, Jason Mitchell, Danyel Austin, Joshua Austin, Annissa Austin, Christopher Baca and Corey Baca. Her smile lives on in the great-grandchildren Alex Rhode, Courtney Artman, Brannan Artman, Mary Katherine Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell, Daisy Holden Lente and Keith Austin Prewitt. Visitation will be 7:30-8:00 a.m. on Friday October 31, 2008 at French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd with Funeral Service starting at 8:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. French Mortuary, Inc. 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500 www.frenchmortuary.com
