MCNABB -- Gary D. "Sonny" McNabb, age 72, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2008 at his home, following a short illness. He was born November 3, 1935 in Mountainair, NM, the son of Kenneth and Irene McNabb. He married Lillie M. Valenzuela on July 18, 1959, after dating her for one year upon his return from the Korean Conflict. After his first few years in Mountainair, roaming the hillsides, he moved to Albuquerque in 1941 with his parents and three siblings. He attended Albuquerque High School and received his G.E.D. while serving his country in the United States Navy. He was on active duty from 1954 thru 1958, with the 7th Fleet, serving on four ships, which included 18 trips across the Pacific Ocean during the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharge in 1962 for "honest and faithful service" to his country. Upon his return from the war, he worked at Standard Oil Station briefly where he met the love of his life, Lillie, while she worked as a waitress at Mario's in the adjacent building. She attended public school in St. Anthony and Rexburg, Idaho and earned an associate degree at Ricks College in 1946 and a bachelor of arts in English and education from Brigham Young University in 1948. While attending BYU, she met and fell in love with Isaac Earl Webb. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 27, 1948. Upon graduation in 1949, Dawn and Earl took jobs as school teachers in the town of Hanapepe on the island of Kauai, in the territory of Hawaii. This was the beginning of her lifelong involvement in teaching. She was an accomplished and encouraging teacher and enjoyed many years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Albuquerque Public School system. Dawn and Earl lived and worked in Brigham City, UT, Whiteriver, AZ and Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, NM. Dawn was a member and leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Primary President, Cub Scout leader, Visiting Teacher, and Relief Society President. She had a special love for the Relief Society and enjoyed singing in the ward choir. She and Earl served as missionaries in Mexico City from 1985 to 1987.
