BENGSON -- Theresa A. Bengson, 57, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord, her Savior, on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Theresa was born on January 25, 1951 in Las Vegas, NM, and was a resident of Albuquerque for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eloisa Gonzales; brothers, Frank and Georgie Gonzales; and husband, Edward "Chip" Bengson. She is survived by her father, David N. Gonzales. Two children, Bryan and LaVonne Cockrell; and their father, Ron Cockrell. Sisters, Mary Lou Dominguez, Angie Gonzales, Lorraine Barela, Isabel Gonzales, Helen Baca, and Josephine Gonzales. Brothers, Fermin Gonzales, Juan Gonzales, and Joe Gonzales, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of NM. Theresa was a dedicated school teacher who served the APS community for 18 years. She dedicated her life to children-her own, and those of the community. She loved to travel, and studied bilingual education in Spain during the summer of 2001. She was a wonderful mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly by all. A Rosary Service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church (corner of Lomas and Tennessee NE). The Funeral Mass will be held at the same location on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately after the mass at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery (SW corner of Wyoming and Paseo Del Norte NE).

BROPHY -- Kaley Brophy, age 39, a resident of Los Chavez, NM, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church. Kaley worked at the Tome Senior Care Center for six years. She had a great love for her seniors and volunteered at many Senior Centers. Kaley had a lot of energy and a love for life and especially liked swimming, exercising, dancing and spending time reading the bible. She was a sweet soul who loved everyone and was never selfish with her love. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Don and Elsie Watts; and cousin, Donald Guthrie. Kaley is survived by her loving parents, Charlie and Nancy Bratton; two loving brothers, Mike and John Brophy; sister, Felicia; aunt, Carol Mann; two cousins, Nancy Lee Mann and Jeffrey Guthrie; and her baby girl rabbit, Tootie Babe. She is also survived by many loving friends, neighbors and loved ones. A Memorial Service will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Tuesday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date. DE LEON -- Hector Ramon "Bud" De Leon, 28, beloved son of Mercedes Fernandez-Wells and Hector G. De Leon, passed away on June 11, 2008. He was the proud father of Zantaysah, 8, and Zaryah, 11. GAIL -- David E. Gail, 65, servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, was called home on June 11, 2008. Dave was born in Chetopa, KS on June 23, 1942. He served in the US Air Force for 21 years, and served our country in Vietnam. He was stationed at KAFB as a Master Sergeant, and retired in 1985. He retired from L3 Titan in 2006. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, William and Vivian; and his brother, Larry. Dave is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sidney; his sister, Linda Hageman and her husband Dwayne; sons Robert, Larry and wife Vicky, Richard, Jesse and wife Brandy. Dave adored his eight grandchildren, Trevor, Brandon, Serena, Hunter, Cole, Eli, Casey, and Alexis. Dave was an integral part of his church, serving as head usher and hugger. GERRY -- Shirley Gerry, 84, a 52 year resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bruce; daughters, Gayle Udall (Gary) of Boulder, CO, and Lynda Kull (Larry), of Del Mar, CA; sister, Virginia Diffenbaugh of Meadow Vista, CA; her dog Shirleydog; and cat, Whiskers. She volunteered for the Albuquerque Humane Society for 38 years. In addition to being the world's greatest mom, she gave her heart, and her time to her friends, and thousands of animals. GUTIERREZ -- Raymond E. Gutierrez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque passed away June 14, 2008 with his loving family at his side. Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rose Gutierrez; three children, Sylvia Gutierrez and partner, Yvonne Riggs, Ernest Gutierrez and wife, Frances, Chris Gutierrez and wife, Trini; four stepchildren, Norma Jonas and husband, Jack, Ruben Valdez, Paul Valdez, Sr., Ross Valdez; grandchildren, Maggie, Thomas, Angelina, Steven, Heather, Paul Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dayton, Alex, Aliciana, Amanda, Trinton, Tammy and Jordan; his brother, Louie Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Manuel Herrera. Mr. Gutierrez was preceded in death by a brother, Manuel Gutierrez and a sister, Mary Herrera. Mr. Gutierrez was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of the US Marine Corp. having served during WWII. Visitation will be Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos NW from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Jim Garcia. ROMME -- Maurine Grace Romme (Renie), 82, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 12, 2008, surrounded by family members at her bedside. She was born February 27, 1926, in Wagon Mound, NM. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Howard Romme; son, Bill Romme with wife Judy; and daughter, Janice Corcoran; grandchildren, Matthew Romme, Alex Romme, Yvonne Corcoran, Jamie Corcoran, and Brandon Corcoran; great-grandchild, Kyler Romme; nieces, Patte Patterson with husband Jim; Alice Fisher, and Barbara McGroarty with husband Kevin; nephews, Dan and Jamie Trumble; nephew, Peter Jensen, and family; and brother-in-law, Marvin Romme with wife, Ruth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Grace Trumble; her sister, Lois Williams; her brother, Maurice Trumble, Jr., and her niece, Sandra Leach. Maurine graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Home Economics and belonged to the Chi Omega Sorority. Maurine was very active in the Sanado Women's Club, an organization within the Coronado Club located on Kirtland Air Force Base available to Sandia Labs employees and their spouses. Maurine served as Vice President of Membership for this organization during the years when its membership reached its highest level ever recorded. She was honored in 1962 by being selected by the Club as "Mrs. Sanado" for her performance in its annual style show. Maurine was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, cook, gardener, and entertainer. As an accomplished seamstress she had made many of the dresses that she and her daughter Janice wore, plus a western suit and sports jacket for Howard. She belonged to one of the Sanado Cooking Clubs (Arte de Cocina #1), was an avid reader within its Book Club, and enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens at her home. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where in her younger years she taught Sunday School classes for the children. In recent years she has participated in the exercise classes at the Bear Canyon Senior Center where she made many close friends. She also had many years of experience volunteering in the Albuquerque Suicide Prevention Center. Services will be held Monday, June 16, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul NE. SCHLEGEL -- Jacqueline "Jackie" Schlegel, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Jackie was born on July 26, 1928 in Chicago, IL. She was a member of The Cathedral Church of St. John in Albuquerque. Jackie was a longtime Administrative Assistant at the University of New Mexico in the Fine Arts and Honors Programs. She contributed to many charities and organizations, including the NM Symphony Orchestra and the Albuquerque Zoo, and enjoyed travel, the arts and more than anything else spending time with her family and many friends. Jackie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Don Schlegel of Albuquerque; children, John Schlegel and wife, Jill, of Santa Rosa, CA, Robyn Schlegel and husband, John Casto, of Albuquerque, Marny Whiteaker and husband, Ralph, of Albuquerque, and Kip Schlegel and wife, Whitney, of Bloomington, IN; daughter-in-law Laura Coker, of Studio City, CA; nine grandchildren, Keri Rutledge and husband Russ, Paul, Amina, Corey, Jonathan, Bree, Zachary, Miranda, and Sarah; one great-grandchild, DaiShawn; sister, Jane Matteson, of Baltimore, MD; and Carl and Sharon Coker and their daughter, Vanessa Arrieta. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Eleanor Matteson, and two children, Blair Leigh Coker and David Leigh Coker. VELASQUEZ -- Michael Ruben Velasquez, age 42, of Albuquerque, departed from this life Friday, June 13, 2008. Mike was a good husband, a wonderful brother and son, and a fabulous father and uncle. He graduated from Valley High School in 1984, where he was the states only undefeated varsity tennis player. Since then, he dedicated his life to his wife, son, family, and teaching others to play tennis. Mike is survived by his wife, Susie Velasquez; son, John Paul Jacobo; mother, Minerva Velasquez; sister, Lauren Velasquez; brother, Jeffrey Velasquez; nephews and nieces, Anthony, Esperanza and Athena Velasquez, Sophia and Joshua Donlevy.
