ALEXANDER -- Bill Alexander, beloved husband, father and grandfather went to be with his Lord Jesus on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 after a bicycle accident. He was an Electronics Technician before retiring from Honeywell in 2004. He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter, Jennifer Garcia; son, Jon Alexander; son-in-law, Bernie Garcia; and grandchildren Mayah, Ariel, Ceana and Davin Garcia. He is also survived by his brothers, David Alexander and wife, Rose Ann and Jerry Alexander and wife, Annette; nieces and nephews Bobby, Susan, Jeff, Melissa, Sean, Melody, Missy, Russell, Rex, Brenda and Marla; sisters-in-laws Esther Alexander and Carol Winter; and mother-in-law Beulah Winter. ARMIJO -- Mary A. Armijo, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, former resident of Springer, NM went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Lillian Trujillo, Virginia Garcia; and husband, Gilbert, Julia Cordova and husband, Emilio, Berta Chavez and husband, Leroy and Cecilia Metz and husband, Jim; stepdaughter, Esther DeHerrera; grandchildren, Johnny, Teddy, Bobby, Theresa, Allen, Donnie, Ralph, Isaac, Maria, Nydia, Monte, Vanessa, Armando, Dina, Angelica, Eric, and Nicolas; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Mary Faye Archuleta; son in law, Steve Anderson; brother, Louis Fernandez and wife, Emily; sister, Theresa Abeyta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Isaac Armijo; daughter, Fabiola Anderson; stepchildren, Esco Tafoya, Ted Armijo, Cleo Sanchez, Sam Armijo, Elsie Sanchez and Joe Armijo; grandson, Billy Trujillo; brothers, Ignacio Fernandez and Joe Fernandez; sisters, Berlinda Romero, Seferina Archuleta and Patsy Gallegos. Mary was very devoted to her faith, where she belonged to St. Joseph's Church in Springer. She was an active member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and Eucharistic Ministry. She was proud to have been able to participate in a pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia in 1988. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 1, 2008, 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. BARELA -- Mary Lilly Barela, an amazing mother and grandmother went to heaven at the age of 82. She was born in Roswell, NM on November 6, 1925. She is preceded in death by her son, Bobby Joe Barela. Mary is survived by her children, Tony Barela, Tillie Tierney and husband Derek, and Michael Barela; sisters, Josephine Garcia and Katherine Jaramillo; granddaughters, Brandie, Constance, and Elishia Rose; great-grandchildren, Precious and Roman and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life is scheduled for June 11, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Glorybound Ministries, 11913 Menaul Blvd. NE. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. BLEA -- Sylvia Ann Blea, age 48, of Albuquerque, went to heaven to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 29, 2008. Sylvia was born in Amarillo, TX to Joe and Domy Blea, and was raised in Tucumcari. She was a vibrant and active person with a great sense of humor. Sylvia never met a stranger. People were drawn to her magnetic personality. She loved parties and all social events where there was Coke and Ice Cream. She was well known through Adelante and Alta Mira Family Services and will be missed by all who knew her. Sylvia is survived by father, Joe L. Blea of Tucumcari; sister, Katrina "Tina" Blea of Albuquerque; brother, Joseph "The Pest" Blea and wife Veronica of Tucumcari and their children, Steven and Kevin Blea. Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother Domy Blea in 1991. A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 1, at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow at French Mortuary Westside Chapel. BREWER -- Ella Louise Brewer passed away on May 19, 2008 in Green Valley, AZ at the age of 86; preceeded by her husband of 49 years, James Brewer. She was a long time resident of Albuquerque. Louise is survived by her son, Dennis C. Brewer and daughter, Sherri L. Sollars. She has four grandchildren, Stephen C. Brewer, Lisa L. Chapman, James L. Sollars, and Sara D. Sollars. A memorial service will be held in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE. CORONA -- Jacob Florencio Corona, 27, a life long resident of Albuquerque passed away on Monday, May 26, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Jacob graduated from Albuquerque High School and worked for Scholastic Book Fairs while attending Central New Mexico Community College part-time prior to his diagnosis. A worldly man of varied interests: music, movies, football, basketball, tennis, and cooking. He loved the cold outdoors and was an avid snow boarder. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ramon and Crucita Corona, Raymond Kroeker and his uncle, Eddie. He is survived by his mother, Patsy Corona-Fisk and step-father, Wesley Fisk; grandmother, Helen Kroeker; aunts and uncles, Tommie and husband, Bill, Antoinette, Raymond, Herman, Michael, and Leonard; cousins, Nunie, Inez, Trinidad, Santiago, Saniego, Victoria, Angelo, Joey, Tessa and the Lopez, Griego and Leyba family; also, his most cherished friends Melody, Shawn, Tabitha, Micah, Marcello, Kurt, Sean, Matt and Daniel; and last but not least his beloved dog, ChuChu. FOSTER -- Russell W. Foster, 89, passed away May 30, 2008, in Albuquerque. Born October 3, 1918, in Argyle, Minn., he is the son of Edgar E. Foster and Carrie B. (Sutton) Foster. The World War II veteran worked for many years at Sandia National Laboratories at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. Russell and his wife Jane were married 67 years. FRANK -- Austin C. Frank, 94, died Saturday, May 24, 2008. He was born in Albuquerque August 2, 1913. Frank grew up in Albuquerque, attended public schools here and the University of New Mexico where in 1936, he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. During World War II, he was commissioned in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps and served with the Construction Battalion Detachments 1050 and 1051 in the southwest Pacific. He was a longtime civil service employee of the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1972. Frank was a registered Professional Engineer by the state of New Mexico and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a daughter, Janet Frank Olsen and husband, Charles of Tustin, CA; a son, Lawrence L. Frank and wife, Cynthia of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Annalise Olsen, Christina Frank and Austin Robert Frank; and a nephew, William Frank of State College, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Frank; and two brothers, Ralph Frank and Claire Frank. Services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester T. GARCIA -- Daniel R. Garcia, age 61, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 with his family at his side. Daniel was born February 27, 1947. He Honorably served his country in the United States Air Force in Korea. Daniel will be remembered for his love of sailing. GRAPEL -- Lois N "Lindy" Grapel, 84, died peacefully May 26, 2008. She is survived by her children, Kristina Grapel of Albuquerque, John Grapel and wife, Carey of Denver and Marianne Vaive and husband, Matt also of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Angie Ward and husband, Clint, David Vantress, Genevieve Vaive and Joshua Vaive; great- grandchildren, Devin and Tyler Ward and Alana Vantress. Lois is also survived by her sisters, Cleo Lenz and husband, Charlie, Joan Brill and husband, Willard and Mary Beth Schultz and husband, William (Beaver); and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Mrs. Grapel was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Verna Dams; her grandson, Jeremiah Vaive; and her son, David. Lindy was born in Tomah, WI on August 24, 1923. She was raised on her parents farm with her three sisters. She was honored as a co- valedictorian for her 1941 graduating class. Her nickname "Lindy" came from her initials LND, the way she signed while working at the railroad. She married Carl Grapel and they eventually made Albuquerque their home. After moving to Albuquerque she was very active as a volunteer with the Democratic Party at the precinct, ward, county and state levels, member of St Luke's Lutheran Church, was involved with friends of The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, did docent work for the Natural History Museum during its early years, was on the advisory board of the Albuquerque Public Library, was a Master Gardener & Bird Watcher especially the Bosque del Apache. Mrs. Grapel was a firm believer in daily exercise, loved walking. When she moved to La Vida Llena she continued her daily exercise, was a volunteer in the library, and exercise room, was a member of the choir and worked as a voter registrar. HANSEN -- Dennis Eugene, 68, of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away suddenly at his home on May 16, 2008. Dennis owned and operated his own business in Albuquerque for 14 years until moving to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1993 where he continued as Hansen Heating & Air. Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He had many friends and enjoyed life. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed old cars and was an original member of the Rickshaws Car Club in Albuq. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Laurie; two daughters, Connie (Jeff) Romero of Albuq., Elisa (Jose) Vargas of Keizer, Oregon; two sons, Dennis R. Hansen of Twin Falls and Steven (Jamie) Hansen of Boise, ID and seven grandchildren, Aubrey (Leif) Quinlan, Jacob, Melanie, Isaac and Sarah Vargas and Sean and Jordyn Hansen. Dennis is survived by one brother, Charlie (Kimberly) Esposito; four sisters, Peggy (Richard) Montgomery, Linda King, Carolyn (Jack) McCloskey and Yvonne (Lou) Gibney of Albuq. HARJO -- KENNA HARJO SR. Funeral services for long time Seminole County resident, Kenna Harjo, Sr., were held May 21, 2008 at the Achena Indian Presbyterian Church in Maud, OK. A burial with military honors followed at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, OK. Kenna, 79, died at his home on Friday, May 16, 2008, after a long illness. He was born in Konawa, OK, on Dec. 23, 1929, to Ishlum Harjo and Eliza Walker Harjo. Kenna attended Vamoosa School in the Seminole area and received a Bachelor Degree in Educ. at the Univ. of Albuquerque, in Albuquerque, NM. He served in combat with honors in the Korean Conflict as a Master Sargent in the U.S. Army 45th (Thunderbird) Division. He worked many years in the Federal Civil Service, eventually retiring from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Kenna is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Kenna Harjo Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Karen Harjo of Yuma, AZ and Elizabeth Huerta of Albuq., NM; eight grandchildren; remaining sister, Ida Harjo Little of Seminole, OK; brother, Jack Brunner, of Midwest City, OK; five nieces, four nephews; many grand nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Lorene Harjo Robinson, Ana Mae Harjo, and Nora Harjo Kernal; granddaughter, Casey Jo Pipestem, and nephew, Larry Harjo. Immediate family members, extended family and numerous friends were in attendance to pay tribute to a quietly proud, honorable, appreciative and loving man.

HOOTS -- Marjorie (MaMa) Hoots, 86, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 25, 2008. She was a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1962. She was an Elder of the Guidiville Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians. She was blessed with the gift of music, and especially enjoyed playing the piano. She loved to laugh, play games and enjoyed traveling. She was married for 37 1/2 years, and preceded in death by her husband, James B. Hoots. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend. She is survived by her four children: Bobbie Howell of Rio Rancho, NM; Larry and Sharon Hoots of Aztec, NM; Sandra and Bernie Baldwin of Rio Rancho, NM; Brenda and Dan Estvander of Euclid, OH; her nine grandchildren: Marcus and Dana Sanders, Mark and Bobbie Sanders, Kimberly Baldwin, Adrian Sanders, Bryan Levi Hoots, Trisha Baldwin, Jodi and Dr. Jonathan Shafer, Dr. Eric Hoots, and Albert Estvander; and her nine great- grandchildren: Samantha Baum, James Sanders, Jacqueline Sanders, Jessica Sanders, Christopher Sanders, Malachai Sanders, Alyssa Ortiz, Roy Alan Garcia, and Maddux Shafer. KESSLER -- Michael Kessler, 45, of Corona, NM passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 in Alamogordo, NM. Michael was born December 14, 1962 in Vaughn, NM to Bill and Jeanne Marie (Babb) Kessler and grew up in the Albuquerque/Edgewood area. Michael graduated from Moriarty High School in 1980. He met his ex-wife Renee Kessler in Ft. Sumner, NM and later they married in 1982, they moved to Corona, NM and lived there for approximately 20 years. Michael became a Hot Shot for the Mountainair Ranger District. He began moving up the ladder, moving to Tijeras and Grants and then transferred to the National Park Service in Grants and also Georgia. Michael moved to Alamogordo two years ago and ran his small engine and repair shop from his home there. Michael was preceded in death by his mother Jeanne Marie Kessler. LAWS -- Mary Pocohontas Jolly Laws passed away March 23, 2008. She was born on September 19, 1922 in Baton Rouge, LA to parents Clarence Alley Jolly and Miriam Lurline McMahon. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Alma and is survived by her husband, Randy; son, Timothy; daughter-in-law Wendy; and sister, Lurline Jolly. She volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943-45. Mary graduated from UNM with a BFA Drama in 1951. She taught ESL while living in Denver and San Francisco, she also volunteered at various museums in San Francisco. Mary was recognized as a superb cook especially with Louisiana Cuisine. LODDY -- GEORGE J. (JIM), 64 passed away May 23, 2008 passed away in Pojoaque, NM. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on September 13, 1943. He was the son of George G. and Estelle V. Loddy who both proceeded him in death, he is survived by a son, Shawn M. Loddy and his daughter, Sarah Loddy of La Jolla, CA; and his sister, Barbara Walters and her husband Richard, of Sand Springs, OK; a nephew, Terry Walters and his wife Fiona, of Tulsa, OK; a niece, Stacy Moses and her husband Mitch of Sand Springs, OK; two grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew. He was a graduate of Los Alamos High School and attended The University of New Mexico. He was an electrician by trade and worked in Dallas, TX for many years, he then came back to New Mexico and purchased a restaurant in Chama, NM which he ran for some time before moving back to Albuquerque. After declining health and the death of his mother, he moved to Pojoaque, NM. The family requests that any donations be made to the American Heart Association. MALONE -- John E. Malone Jr, Lt. Col. Ret, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, passed away on May 28, 2008. He is greatly loved and survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Marie Malone. John also leaves behind his children Thomas and wife, Cindy Malone, of Folsom, CA, Gerald Malone, Julianne and husband, George Moss, and Paul Malone, all of Albuquerque, three grandchildren Caitlin Moss, Meghan Moss and Hannah Malone, and sisters, Marjorie Reece, and Norma Fugitt and her husband, Frank, all of Bakersfield, CA. His nieces and nephews continue to love their Uncle Johnny. In 1972, they hosted Gazmend Pula, a foreign exchange student from Yugoslavia, who became another son in the family. His mother, Lotta Hughes, father, John E. Malone Sr. and daughter, Susan Marie Malone live on in memory. John received the Distinguished Flying Cross and other military medals while serving 23 years as a USAF Officer. After his career in the USAF, John worked for the Vaughn Company as a realtor, then partnered with Kamran Manoochehri and opened M&M Realty. John and Ruth were active on many levels in the community. John's memberships include: River Rats and Super Sabre Society as a fighter pilot in the USAF, Siglo de Oro RV Club, Albuquerque Day Lily Society, First Church of Christ Scientist, Albuquerque, and volunteered at the VA Hospital's Fountain of Healthy Living. John Recently celebrated his 60th reunion from East Bakersfield High School. He graduated from Bakersfield College and San Jose State. John was a generous man with a heart of gold, and is dearly loved by his friends and family and will be greatly missed. MATECZUN -- Margaret Ellen Mateczun was born Margaret Ellen Costello on a homestead in the Estancia Valley near Stanley, New Mexico, on June 10th 1918 as the 3rd of 6 children. During the Great Depression she lived with cousins in Albuquerque and attended St. Mary's High School where she graduated in 1936. She was married to Alfred Joseph Mateczun who came to New Mexico from Chicago, Illinois, and worked as an industrial arts teacher and elementary school principal for the Albuquerque Public School System until his death in 1971. During World War II she moved with her sisters to California where they worked in war related industries while her husband was overseas before returning to New Mexico where she raised her two sons. Margaret had an abiding interest in genealogy and was well known by relatives for authoring histories of the Costello and Mateczun families. She had a gift for solving puzzles of all sorts and was known to have a green thumb and gardened every year of her life. As a daughter of pioneers she was fiercely independent and lent a friendly ear to all who ever met her. She was beloved by family, neighbors and all those who came to her in times of trouble. A life long Roman Catholic she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and had a special devotion to Mary. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Alfred Mateczun and his wife, Cody and Dr. John Mateczun and his wife, Betsy and by five grandchildren, Alfred, Laura, Erin, Adam and Jenny. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Mateczun and one grandson, Kevin. A memorial mass was held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW, with Father Francis as the Celebrant. MONTEZ -- Robert Montez, 80 years old, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008. He was born in San Antonito, NM and later resided in Albuquerque for several years. The family moved to Vallego, CA in 1967 where they resided for 41 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Tommie L., son, Christopher, parents, Merced and Lucarita Montez, brother, Manuel Montez, sisters, Lucinda Gutierrez and Georgia Juarez. He is survived by sons, Toby (Jocelyn), Stan (Kim Lloyd) and Ron (Isabel); grandsons, Greg, Gabriel and Dominic; granddaughters, Serena, Justina (Esteban Rodriguez), Ronda, Jade and Jerica; sisters Gloria Priebe, Mary Ann Croy (Art), Ginnie Mirabal, brother, Tino Montez (Lia) and many nieces and nephews. Robert was an Air Force veteran and retired civil service employee of Mare Island. He enjoyed his grandchildren and attended all of their sporting events. O'MALLEY -- Peyton Sofia O'Malley, infant daughter of Sean and Yvonne O'Malley became our guardian angel Tuesday, May 20, 2008. No matter how long that someone is in your life, it feels like a lifetime has gone by. Peyton was very wonderful to have as a daughter, granddaughter, niece, and cousin, though for such a short time. She brought many people great happiness. It is very hard to say good-bye. OMANSON -- Norma Lee Omanson, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord May 30, 2008. She was born February 26, 1922, in Kansas City, MO. PASCALE -- John F. Pascale, 81, ret. CW4 US Army, died peacefully in NM after a recent illness. During military years he was in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany and France; as well as American bases. After retirement, he worked in Maryland for The Rouse Company and The Enterprise Development Company as Director of Engineering and Construction, and Vice President. His Maryland projects included the Rouse Company building, Baltimore Harbor Festival Marketplace; other projects were in Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas, Japan, Hawaii and Australia. John will be missed by many. PROETT -- William W. Proett, long-time educator at Albuquerque Academy, passed away in Denver, CO on May 21, 2008. He was the son of Herman and Mildred Proett and was born on February 27, 1930 in Ong, NE. He began his teaching career in Eldora, IA and then taught at Lake Forest Academy, Lake Forest, IL for eight years. He and his family moved to Albuquerque (and later to Placitas) in 1969 where he taught chemistry for 22 years. He also helped coach football for many years at the Academy. He retired from teaching in 1991. Bill was skilled in woodworking and in retirement was active with Habitat for Humanity. Bill and his wife Jo moved to the Denver area in 2007 to be near their son Michael, his wife, Noriko, and their two children, Zoe and Theo. Bill is also survived by his sister, Delaine Halberg, of Hudson, WI. A memorial service was held in Centennial, CO on May 28, 2008. RUSSELL -- Matthew Stephen Russell, 37 of Albuquerque, New Mexico died on May 28, 2008 at home. He was born September 23, 1970 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Matt graduated from Illini Central High School and received his undergraduate and graduate degree in Forestry from the University of Illinois (Go Illini!). He worked for the City of Albuquerque as their urban forester. SMITH -- Herbert A. Smith passed away at the age of 83 at his home in Albuquerque on May 24, 2008, with his wife by his side. Mr. Smith was born Jan. 1, 1925 in Milan, Mo. He was a WWII veteran and had a Master's degree in Education, which he utilized as teacher and administrator until his retirement in 1971. He then went on to own several business in the Alb. area. His varied interests included automobiles, philosophy, art and billiards. He was an accomplished gunsmith and won several world and state championships in shooting competitions. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Suzan; sons, Mike and Rick; daughter-in-law, Jeannette; grandchildren, K.C., Hannah, Tyrus and great-granddaughter, Naomi Rose. There will be a private service in Milan, Missouri. The family has set up a memorial fund in Mr. Smith's name at the American Lung Association.

WARD -- James Patrick Ward III, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 29, 2008. He was born October 26, 1943, in Joliet, Illinois, where he attended Joliet Catholic High. He moved to New Mexico to attend school at the College of Santa Fe, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. The major portion of Jim's career was starting and working in his own business. He was a partner in Ink Impressions, a local manufacturer of custom business forms. He went on to become a distributor with his own company, Forms West. Jim had been a member of the Albuquerque Rotary Club where he developed many long-term friendships. Jim really enjoyed New Mexico especially boating and fishing. His passion was golf! He was a longtime member of the Chamisa Hills Country Club where he made many close friends. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth; sons, James P.
