BENAVIDEZ -- Abelino Benavidez, 81, of Albuquerque and formerly of Ilfeld, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. He was a very devout Catholic and was a very honorable man. Albelino loved his family and was a very caring uncle. He will be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews. BEVONI -- Mary A. Bevoni, 93, daughter of the late Carmela and Raffaele Mastromatteo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14th, in Rio Rancho, NM, where she had recently relocated. A gifted soprano, Mary was a former member of the Westchester Little Opera Company, the Westchester Philharmonic Choral Society, a chapter of the Sweet Adelines and a lifetime member of the Mount Carmel Church choir. Mary often sang solo for weddings, funerals and public holiday celebrations. For several years she worked side by side with her late husband, Mario, at Bevoni's Silver Lake Market. They were devoted to each other for 68 years. Beside her love of music, Mary enjoyed all aspects of life whether simple or sophisticated. She would "gallivant" at the drop of a hat, yet she looked forward to planned vacations with her family and friends. Her home was open to everyone, and she often hosted drop-in as well as invited guests. Mary had a keen sense of humor and a loving acceptance of everyone who came into her life. She particularly enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and grandnieces. She will be remembered for her generosity of heart and her valiant spirit. She is survived by her son, Thomas, and his wife, Mary, of Corrales, NM; her daughter, Rosemarie, of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; her grandchildren, Leisha and Michael, of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, Rita, Dolores, Maria, Miriam, Lorraine, Barbara and Anita; nephews, James and Guido and all their children. CHALKER -- Elizabeth Edwina "Dina" Chalker January 5, 1940-May 9, 2008 Elizabeth Edwina "Dina" Chalker passed away after a long battle with breast-cancer, in her home on Friday night, May 9, 2008. She was surrounded by her family. She is now with the Lord. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Jim and Marie Moore of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters, Deborah Ortega of Colorado Springs, and Leah Laurence and her husband, Joe of Colorado Springs; one son, Mike Ortega and his wife, Julia of Albuquerque, NM. She has eight grandchildren, Desiree Ortega, Amber Ortega, Amanda Ortega, Dillon LoSasso, Joseph Searcy-Ortega, Haley Laurence, Jarod Searcy-Ortega, Kohl Hughson and one great-grandson, Dayton Ortega. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amado Ortega, and her parents, Harvey and Josie Moore. Dina was born in Taos, New Mexico and was a graduate of Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. She received her Master's degree from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. She retired from School District 11 in Colorado Springs where she taught at Thomas B. Doherty High School for 24 years. She loved to travel, go to the movies and was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. A Vigil will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 19th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsetta Dr. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or to Susan G. ENDEAN -- Janet Endean passed away May 9, 2008 at her residence of 49 years. She was born on August 20, 1921 to George and Inez Miers in Oak Park, Illinois at West Suburban Hospital. After graduating high school she returned to West Suburban Hospital to attend their college of nursing. At that time, women in the nursing program were not allowed to be married, but that did not stop Janet from eloping and secretly marrying the love of her life Willis Endean on June 1, 1941. After a short honeymoon in Kahoka, Missouri she returned to school to complete her RN degree. In their early years of marriage in Illinois, Willis and Janet had two children, David and Leslie. Due to David's asthma, the young family moved to the wonderful dry climate of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their life together in Albuquerque included the birth of four more girls, Laurie, Elisabeth, Anita, and Rachelle. Janet's nursing career varied from working in Dr Albert Rood's family practice office and working at Memorial Hospital to volunteering for St. Martins hospitality center and teaching nursing aides for the Albuquerque Job Corps. Janet was a lifelong Jehovah's Witness and drew great comfort in her faith of the future as the Bible teaches. Janet lost Willis on May 31, 2006 and everyone that knew her could see the great loss she suffered. Janet is preceded in death by Willis and her son, David. She is survived by her daughters, Leslie, Laurie, Elisabeth, Anita, and Rachelle and their extended families. She had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to Chris Martinez, Pat & Tim Black, Elizabeth Pearce, Erin Burns, and Dr. Walter and Carrie Rohloff. Service to be held Saturday May 17th at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses at 8904 Menaul Blvd NE, South Entrance. Reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. at the family home.

GONZALES -- Rogerio "Roger" G. Gonzales, 84, of Albuquerque and Sedillo Hill, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. He was born May 23, 1923 in Sedillo Hill to the late Santos and Delfinia Garcia Gonzales. Roger was a veteran of the Army in World War II. He married Maria Elena Rael on September 15, 1945. Roger retired as an electrician from Sandia Corporation in 1985 after 28 years of service. He was a parishioner at the Shrine of St. Bernadette. Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Fernando Gonzales; a granddaughter, Helen Kathrine Cook in 2002; a grandson, Paul Carlos Sanchez in 2007. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maria "Helen" Elena Gonzales; a daughter, Priscilla Garcia and her husband, Joe Magdaleno Garcia; two sons, Armenio Gonzales and his wife, Melende Gonzales, David Gonzales and his wife, Sylvia Garibay-Gonzales; eight grandchildren, Janet, Michele, Lisa, Tony, Christina, and Susan; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; five brothers, Lonicio, Evidelio and spouse, Eralia, Efren and spouse, Flora, Anselmo and fiance, Perta, Elizardo and spouse, Maria and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. HENDERSON -- Merle W. Henderson was born in Michigan on December 10, 1922, and died on May 8, 2008, in Albuquerque where he had been a resident since 1971. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Merle enjoyed fishing, gardening and the company of his friends and family. Survivors include his stepson, Thomas Prevender; grandchildren, Michael Prevender, Karen Barrett and Phillip Prevender; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and his canine buddy, Holly. KLEMM -- Marlin. Memorial services for Marlin C. "Pete" Klemm will be held at Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3900 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM on Monday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Klemm passed away at the age of 93 on Thursday, May 15, 2008, after a short illness. Mr. Klemm was born on August 26, 1914, in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He lived in Albuquerque for many years and was employed at Sandia Labs. He was a member of Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Cottrel Klemm. He is survived by a step-daughter, step-grandchilren, and numerous nieces and nephews. LASSMAN -- Gene J. Lassman passed away peacefully May 12, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 85. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Shirley. They shared their lives with three wonderful daughters, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and longtime friends. Gene was born in Chanute, KS. He served his country in the Army during WWII. He had a very successful career as the owner/operator of Foster Freeze restaurants in Santa Barbara, CA. He retired to Bend, OR and later moved to Tijeras, NM to be near family. He and Shirley traveled many happy miles in their motor home, visiting family and friends. He loved golf, gardening, fixing anything and eating ice cream. He will be loved forever and live on in many hearts. There will be a private family gathering celebrating his life. NORMAN -- David I. Norman, 67, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008 in Ghana, Africa. He was born June 8, 1940 in Willmar, MN to Lester D. and Dorothy F. (Kelly) Norman. David graduated from Willmar High School in 1958 and got a Bachelors Degree in Physics from the University of Minnesota. He served in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968. David received his PHD in Geology from the University of Minnesota in 1976. He married Mary A. Fishburn in 1976 and they spent 1976 - 1978 in Norway before settling down in Socorro, NM where he was a professor at New Mexico Tech from 1978 until the present. He was a member of the San Miguel Catholic Church and a working member of several scientific associations. David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary of their home in Socorro; son, Paul Norman of Socorro; daughters, Kirsten Norman of Albuquerque, NM and Anna Norman of Iowa City, IA; sisters, Mary Wilkowske and husband, Doug of Willmar, MN; Barbara Colburn and husband, Stan of Andover MN; and Patty Radabaugh and husband, John of Willmar, MN; an aunt, Helen McNab of Oregon. He will be missed dearly by his family, students, colleagues and friends. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro.
