CARMICHAEL -- Daniel Lon Carmichael, 55, formerly of Albuquerque, NM, went on to be with the Lord on May 1, 2008 in San Antonio, TX after a long battle with MS. He died at the family home with his loving and devoted wife, Deb, by his side. Dan's family was able to visit him in recent weeks, and he passed away knowing how very much he was loved. In addition to his wife of nine years, Dan leaves behind two sons, Tim Carmichael of Albuquerque, NM; Jeremy Carmichael of Colorado Springs, CO; three adoring step children, Michael Anderson of Independence, MO; Tricia Jones and her husband, Kieth, of Grain Valley, MO; and Jason Anderson and his wife, Tara, of Port Richey, FL. His siblings, brothers Chuck Carmichael and his wife, Ellen, of Artesia, NM; Dave Carmichael and his wife, Sandy, of Albuquerque, NM; and sister, Marian Clark, formerly of Albuquerque but now of Colorado Springs, CO; and a generous sprinkling of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who filled his life with many joyous moments. Dan served as an Albuquerque police officer for nearly 10 years in the late 70s and early 80s, resigning from the force when his MS began to show itself more. He worked at Motorola for a number of years before his health forced him into early retirement. Dan then spent his time working on projects with Deb, especially making children's lamps to sell at craft shows. He and Deb enjoyed finding adventure in the everyday, and could even make a trip to Hobby Lobby seem like a special outing just because they were together. Honey, your laughter and silly sense of humor will be deeply, deeply missed. Just when I thought true love would never find me, you rolled into my life in your bright yellow Quickie wheelchair with an attitude and zest for life to match. You brought such joy to all our lives, and I am especially grateful that my children found in you the father they never had. You taught us all a lot about grabbing the moments we have here and now, because, really, those are all we have. We are all better people for having known and loved you. Rest in the Lord, my love, rest in the Lord. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do . --John 17:4. Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., after which Dan will be interred at the park with his father, as was his wish. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome, especially if you have a great "Dan" story to share as we celebrate his life.

FINCKE -- Margaret Fincke was born Feb. 19, 1914, at Hope, New Mexico and passed away peacefully May 7, 2008, surrounded by all of her children. A native New Mexican, Margaret grew up on a farm at Hope where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1931. She taught school in Cottonwood and attended the University of New Mexico during the summers, earning her B.A. in 1937. With an eye to the world beyond Hope, Margaret took a job in Santa Fe, first as a courier for La Fonda, and then as an elementary school teacher. It was in Santa Fe that her "life really began"; it was there that she met and fell in love with Robert T. Fincke of Estancia. Then Bob left for graduate school at Indiana University and she began a teaching job in the Panama Canal Zone shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor. By that time Bob had joined the Army Air Corps. He proposed by letter and they returned to New Mexico to marry on the family farm at Hope. As an Air Force wife, Margaret toured the globe, living in occupied northern Japan, then Maryland, Alabama, Virginia, Tokyo and Ohio. After Bob retired, they went to a small island in Micronesia where he was principal of Mizpah High School. Three years later Margaret and Bob returned to Hope to help out on the farm. They brought three young Micronesians with them to finish high school in Artesia. Then she and Bob restored an old adobe in Albuquerque and entertained friends and family for 20 years. After Bob died, she made her home at La Vida Llena, where her reputation as a bridge player remains legion. Margaret is survived by her four children, Susan Fincke of Chicago, Bill Fincke of San Diego, Ola Fincke of Norman, OK and Roberta Walter-Fincke of Aschaffenburg, Germany, and four grandchildren, Andrew and Sophie Fincke, Thula and Franziska Walter. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 3:00 p.m. at La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima de Oro, NE, Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to a favorite charity. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87112 505-275-3500 www.frenchmortuary.com
