ATWOOD -- Jerry Atwood, age 75, of Albuquerque, died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness, Saturday, April 5, 2008. Jerry spent most of his life in the automobile business. After retirement, he worked in loss-prevention with Wal-Mart. Jerry was a loving husband to June, his wife of 53 years; father and friend to his son, Gary; "Papa" to his grandchildren, Joshua and Savannah. CHAVEZ -- Lena Chavez "Nena", age 84, was born April 3, 1924, to Nicolas and Candelaria Salas of Pena Blanca, NM. She went home with the Lord on her 84th birthday, Thursday, April 3, 2008. Lena was a pioneer, raising two daughters, as a single parent. As well, she worked in, owned, and operated Lena's Beauty Salon for 39 years in Downtown Albuquerque. Lena will be deeply missed and always remembered on our hearts. Her body is at peace and her soul is with the Lord. Lena was preceded in death by her three brothers, Frank, Tom, and John Salas. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Dolores Miera and Frances Chavez; son-in-law, Leon Padilla; Dominic Tamez; a grandson who Lena raised; grandchildren, Frank Miera Sr., Michael Miera, Stephanie Miera, Robert Tamez, and Silvia Ann O'Ray; great-grandchildren, Frankie Miera, Heavenly Tamez, Branden Burlem, and Robert Sisneros O'Ray; sister-in-law, Erlinda Salas; nephew, Nick Salas; godchild and niece, Juanita Trujillo and Jessica Ramirez; many other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo on Thursday, April 10, 2008. Davis, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly at age 56 on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 12:35 a.m. He is preceded in death by his parents, Millard H. and Velma J. Davis. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, James P. and Patricia Davis; by the mother of his children, Renee Perea; by his four children, Matthew Davis, Christian Davis, Analisa Davis, and Rebecca Montoya and her husband, Felix Michael Montoya; by his eight grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Lorenzo, Anjoli, Reanne, Julianna, D'Ana, and Estevan; and numerous nieces and nephews. DEVOLDER -- Arthur L. DeVolder, age 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died on Friday, April 4, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Jean E. DeVolder, in 1981 and son, L. Scott DeVolder, in 1988. He is survived by his sons, Peter L. Welch, and wife, Jackie, of Pagosa Springs, CO and Mark J. DeVolder and wife, Barbara, of Los Alamos; daughter, Anne C. Tarleton and husband, Glen Michael, of Taos; grandchildren, Christy Tarleton, Tracy Tarleton, and Derek Welch; great-granddaughter, Brandy McKneely; and brothers, Maurice DeVolder and wife, Martha, of Sebring, FL, and Rene DeVolder and wife, Alice, of Tucson, AZ. Arthur was born in South Bend, IN, received BS in Public Administration from Indiana University; BSLS from University of Denver; MA in Government and Citizenship at University of New Mexico. He was a librarian at Tacoma, WA Public Library, Chico State Library, University of Oregon Library, Twin Falls, ID Public Library, and University of New Mexico Library. While at UNM, he was an Associate Professor, Assistant Dean of Technical Services, Acting Dean of Library Services and later, Curator of the John Gaw Meem Collection. Arthur retired from UNM in 1978. He was a member of the Idaho State Library Association, Pacific Northwest Library Association, New Mexico Library Association, Albuquerque Library Association, and Southwest Library Association. He published many articles and several books, including "A Woodworker's Library", "Guadalupe Victoria", and "Santa Maria Mission at McCartys, NM". He was an avid woodworker and operated ArtCraft studio for a number of years. Art loved to dance and spent many happy hours on the dance floor with his very special friend, Shirley Allen. DILLENDER -- John K. Dillender. After 62 years of serving the Lord, John K. Dillender went to be with our Father on April 7, 2008. John lived his life committed to the commands of Christ in Matt. 22:37-39. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and love your neighbor as yourself." He began his life in a strong Christian home. Born to Jack and Helen Dillender, they raised him to honor and trust God. Later joined by his only brother Dick Dillender, their family has been committed to making an impact for the Kingdom of God. Christ led John to love and marry Joy Dillender and they had two sons, Ken and Rick Dillender. While we will always cherish the impact that John has made in our family, the impact that he has had on the world will forever be felt and missed. He was committed to serving others. John served as a medic during the Vietnam war, worked with heart patients when he got home, owned his own ambulance service, worked for the fire department and the police department, was a house parent for two years for the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, served as Minister of Music/Education for numerous churches in El Paso, TX, Rodeo Road Baptist Church in Santa Fe, NM, Highland Baptist Church Roswell, NM, and was currently serving at Bernalillo First Baptist Church in Bernalillo NM. He was ordained on February 26, 1996 and served as Pastor for Loving Baptist Church, Loving NM, for five years. He served as State Director of Disaster Relief for the state of New Mexico and the National Incident Command Center, helping others during disasters such as Katrina in Louisiana, Hatch NM floods, fires in San Diego CA, ice storms in Oklahoma City, and many others. No matter where Jesus called John, he was prepared to go. John lived his life focused on Acts 1:8 "You will receive power when the Spirit comes upon you and you will be My witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the world" and the Great Commission. John allowed Christ to use him and the impact of his actions will be felt for generations. We thank our Father in Heaven for the tenderness, mercy, grace, counsel, love, and hope that he has shared with us through this tender soul. John's legacy is lived out through his family that is left to serve in his place. For Helen, Dick, Joy, Ken, Rick and all of our families, we will serve the Lord. We honor John's memory. DOTSON -- Harold C. Dotson Jr. was born September 2, 1952, lived a good life, and died April 6, 2008. Hal was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, outdoorsman and trusted friend. Born on Long Island, NY to a proud Air Force family, Hal grew up in the countryside of France, the dry air of Tucson, AZ, the Black Hills of South Dakota, and the neighborhoods of Riverside, CA. Hal graduated from Riverside's North High School in 1970 (but not before meeting his future wife in 1969) and earned his Associate of Arts degree from Riverside City College in 1972. Always a busy man, Hal married Nancy Reynolds on Dec. 15, 1973, which didn't stop him from receiving his Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Cal Poly Pomona in 1975 (a feat to be capped with a public accountant certification in 1978). Hal and Nancy welcomed their first child, a girl, in 1978, before moving the whole operation to Socorro, NM in 1979. There, while working in the family business, Raychester, Hal produced two strapping sons in 1980 and 1984. Hal divided his time among family, his CPA business, and civic duties. Hal held productive positions on the Socorro City Council, Socorro Consolidated School Board and the New Mexico State Board of Educators. Hal was also very active in Ducks Unlimited from 1980 until his death, serving for a time as state treasurer. In 2002, the family purchased land south of Socorro bordering the Rio Grande. Hal and his sons spent many wonderful hours at "the ranch", taking refuge in the beauty and tranquility of the land. Hal is survived by his parents, Lillian and Harold Dotson Sr.; his wife, Nancy; his daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Kathleen, Mike and Owen Dano; his son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Eliana Dotson; his son, Andrew Dotson; his sister and brother-in-law, Sheila And Ed Berger; his nieces and nephews: Aaron and Liz Berger, Fred and Kathy Berger, Brenda Hesse and Johannes Pohl, Peter and Lindsay Icenogle, Lauren and Carlos Griego, Greg Icenogle, Emma Crawford, Jessica Crawford, and a wide web of extended family and friends. EGAN-KIRKPATRICK -- Ella Egan Kirkpatrick, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Saturday, April 5, 2008. She was preceded in death by husband of 17 years, James A. Egan in 1958, husband of 5 years, Dahl J. Kirkpatrick in 1991, special friend, Alan Gross in 2001 and beloved sisters, Effie Wyche, Dot Bosley and Orrel Brownlea and brothers, George and Leonard Stanton. She is survived by son, James D. Egan and wife, Suzanne LaBelle and granddaughter, Elise Egan of Wilmette, IL; daughter, Sue Gunckel and husband, Fred of Albuquerque; step-son, John Kirkpatrick and wife, Carolyn of Albuquerque, step-daughter, Elsie Kimbrell of Arlington, VA and their children and grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ella was born to Elwin and Sarah (Hanson) Stanton on December 23, 1920 in Clinton, Minnesota, where she was reared. Ella traveled the world often in the company of her dear friend and co-worker, Mary Hensch. She retired from the Forest Service in 1983 as directives manager and editor. An avid genealogist since her retirement she was a member of the Genealogy Club of the Albuquerque Public Library for which she was honored as an "outstanding volunteer" in the Albuquerque Journal. She also spent many years as a coordinator for Meals on Wheels, served as president of the local chapter of Toastmistresses International, was a lifetime member of the Retired Federal Employees Assn. and the Forest Service Amigos for which she edited the newsletter, and was a longtime member and Deacon at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Her final years were spent at Grand Court in Albuquerque where she served as an officer in the Residents Assn. Cremation has taken place. ELLIS -- Irma Kay Ellis (88) passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2008 with family members by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Ellis; her sister, Dorothy Gingrass; her brother, Harry Hoffert; her daughter, Margaret Dean Friend and her grandson, Richard Lee Friend. She is survived by her brother, Bill Hoffert and his wife, Leota; by her daughter, Mary Ann Garcia and her husband, Jerry and Di Ann Turner and her husband, Mick; by her sons, David H. Huskisson and his wife, Camela, Tommy Joe Ellis and his wife, Angela, and Bobby Joe Ellis. Irma Ellis is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; one great- great- grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Irma was born in Lincoln. Illinois on March 23, 1920. She and her husband were very involved with the balloon fiesta and Irma was known as the cookie lady with the local balloonists. She enjoyed arts and crafts and crossword puzzles. FRYE -- Brian Franklin Frye of Westminster, Colorado, 30-year-old son of Fred Frye of Albuquerque, NM and Karla McGill of Wolf Point, MT, passed away unexpectedly, on March 31, 2008, in the Rocky Mountains that he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, George F. Frye; his brother, Bradley R. Frye; and his uncle, Mike Kittleson. GARCIA -- Orlando R. Garcia, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947 peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on April 7, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 61 years; son, Harold; and daughter, Lorraine Sierra and husband, Johnny. He was preceded in death by sons, Ernest Garcia and Fred Garcia. GUARDIOLA -- Louie R. Guardiola, 37, left his family and friends on April 4, 2008, unexpectedly. He was born in Albuquerque, NM December 11, 1969. Son of Gilberto and Maria, brother of Theresa. Louie is survived by his loving daughter, Leandra; two sons, Estavan and Angelo; one granddaughter, Valerissa; two nieces, Valerie and Vanessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was a truck driver for 15 years who loved the open road. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 2:00 -4:30 p.m. and 6:00 -7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary. HENDRYX -- Loretta Maria Spohr Bell. Loretta was born April 12, 1912 in Berthoud, CO to Richard & Esther Edmundson Spohr, one of seven siblings. She graduated from high school in Raton, NM in 1930, and from nurse's training at Bethel Hospital in Colorado Springs in 1933 and served as a nurse in Albuquerque for 45 years. She married William Maxwell Bell in 1933. They had two daughters, Helen Katherine and Carol Elizabeth (Betty). They were living in Albuquerque, NM when Bill passed away in 1946. Loretta met and married Louis J. Hendryx in 1948. They had a wealth of love, family and friends who blessed their, (almost) 50 years of marriage. Lou preceded her in death in 1998. On January 25, 2008 Loretta slept peacefully as she passed away. She went to greet her siblings, Dick, Turk & Bette and her granddaughter, Anita Moore & great- grandson, Greg Matthews. HOOK -- James William Hook, Jr., 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Sunday, April 6, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Compton Hook; one daughter; two sons; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepson; two stepdaughters; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great- grandchildren. Mr. Hook was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on May 30, 1912 but lived in New York state and Connecticut from 1916 to 1948. After graduating from the Taft School in 1930 and Yale University in 1934, he worked with the J. Walter Thompson Company advertising agency in New York City prior to his duty in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1948 he moved to Albuquerque and worked at Sandia Laboratories for 24 years. Mr. Hook was Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board during the 60's and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi, the Society of Colonial Wars, and Mensa. LAVANDOSKI -- Theresa L. Lavandoski, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, April 6, 2008. She was a resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Theresa is survived by her two sons, Robert and his wife, Terry and Joseph; four grandsons, David, Steven, Ron and Tom; granddaughter, Jana Benton; great-grandsons, Collin and Nolan Henton; her sisters, Lillian Lyko and Alice Keck; and brother, Edward Koziol. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, daughter, Carolyn and granddaughter, Krista. Theresa lived her life with integrity and generosity. She was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, opening her heart and home to everyone. she helped raise and care for not only her own children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. MARCELLI -- Teresa Anne Marcelli went to be with the Lord at sunrise on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was the beloved daughter of Frank and Ernestine Marcelli; loving mother of Antonio Archuleta and Ricardo (Rico) Bustos; caring sister of Rosemarie Nelson, Mariana and Walt Mestas, Tina and Ed Sanchez, Frank and Kathy Marcelli, John and Lisa Marcelli and Stephanie and Armand Giannini. She was a wonderful aunt to her 17 nephews and nieces. Teresa was born on February 23, 1956 and was a 1974 graduate of Valley High School. She was a generous and loving sister and friend. She loved Jesus and shared that love freely and with much enthusiasm. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town, 800 Rio Grande Blvd. NW (formerly the Old Town Sheraton). MERRILL -- Louise Merrill, age 87, of Albuquerque and formerly of Tulsa, OK, died on April 5, 2008. She was born in Rector, AR on December 26, 1920 to the late Frank and Carrie (Arment) Barker. She was a bookkeeper for over a decade at her church in Tulsa, where she also sang in the choir every Sunday. Louise was a master gardener and a wonderful provider for her children. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Merrill, of Corrales; grandchildren, Issa Abraham and Amanda Merrill; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, James, on November 23, 2005. Services will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodland Heights Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul. NEGRI -- Andrew J. Negri, 81, a resident of Albuquerque for 17 years, died Sunday, April 6, 2008. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea Noonoo and husband, Ronald, Michelle Negri, Cassandra Ferguson, and Melissa DeMarco and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, Benjamin, Rebecca, Maria, and Joey. Mr. Negri was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Negri. Andrew served in the US Navy during World War II. POLITI -- Bertha Rose Politi, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 2003, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 after a short illness. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Figg, Theresa Gosselin, both of Albuquerque, Barbara Baiano and husband, John, of Staten Island, NY, and Juan Ferre of Cuba; eight grandchildren, Juliann Gosselin Higgins, John Baiano, Jr., Michelle Baiano, and Tara Mae Baiano and three loving grandsons, sons of Juan; two great- grandchildren, Ashley Taylor Higgins and Melanie Grace Gosselin; loving niece, Maria Sclafani of Staten Island; and other relatives and friends. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Politi; grandson, Michael Kelly; the father of her children, John Ferre; two sisters; and one brother. She was born on February 14, 1921 in Havana, Cuba to Alberto and Maria Valdez. Bertha moved to the United States at the age of 22 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. She spoke very little English but with the help of the Jewish Community in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY she learned English very fluently. Their love and care for her caused her to love her Jewish heritage. After her marriage to Matthew Politi in 1970, they moved to Boco Raton, FL where she remained until moving to Albuquerque to be nearer to her daughters who would care for her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. VIGIL -- Clarence Vigil "Vato Loco" beloved son and brother. Uncle Clarence went with the Lord on April 6, 2008. He was born in Gallup, NM on February 2, 1959. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleto Vigil and sister, Betty Lou Madrid. He was a very loving person, son, brother, and uncle. His heart was open to everyone and he will be greatly missed. WALSH -- Rosemary Cowan Walsh, 78, died Monday, April 7, 2008 of heart failure. Rosemary was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on June 8, 1924. She moved to Salida, Colorado where she attended high school, then went to nursing school in Denver. She met and fell in love with Robert K. (Bob) Walsh in high school. They eloped to Raton, NM in 1950. They moved to Albuquerque where they brought up their four children. Bob and Rosemary moved to the Jemez Mountains in their retirement and lived there for 25 years until Bob passed away last fall. Rosemary leaves behind her four children, Rick Walsh and his wife, Melinda, Randy Walsh and his wife, Caren, and Roger Walsh, all of Albuquerque, and Robin Pratt and her husband. Michael of Swaziland, Africa. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Austen, Skye, Rory and his wife, Delfina, Jocelyn and her husband, Leroy, Kerri, Casey, Marshall and his wife, Amber, Lee, Tyler, Jori, Beau and Khetsi, and three great-grandchildren, Judea, Austin and Beau. Rosemary is survived by her sister, Connie Jackson and her husband, Walter of Albuquerque, her brother, Jack Cowan and his wife, Helen of Colorado, and two nieces, Debra and Tamara and three nephews, Mike, Bryan, and Craig, and their families. They all brought much joy to her life. Rosemary was a happy and positive person. She was a devoted wife, and a caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had a hug, a smile and a kiss for all those she loved. She loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends, and made everyone feel welcome, no matter how many showed up for dinner. She was emotionally strong and a source of comfort, understanding, and unconditional love. She fought valiantly until the end. She deserves her rest and is already missed terribly. Rosemary's life will be celebrated with friends and family at an undetermined time.

WRIGHT -- A. Jean Wright, 75, of Albuquerque, went Home to be with The Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008. She was born on October 8, 1932 in Oakland, MD to the late Kirk and Pearl Cosner. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Dewane Wright in 1983. Jean was a member of Hoffmantown Church and was a Bible Study Fellowship Discussion Leader. Jean worked for Christian book stores in Akron, OH and Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Locker and her husband, Taylor, Albuquerque; a son, Mark Wright and his wife, Rhonda, Rittman, OH; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Steven and Alicia Locker, and Billy, Bradley, and Blake Williams; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Lawrence Cosner, Oakland, MD; and her sister, Lois Homa, Sagamore Hills, OH. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Hoffmantown church at 10:00 am with Rob Mahon officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Akron, OH.
