ADAMS -- Laurel Vivian Linville Adams age 85, beloved mother and grandmother, died Monday, January 28, 2008, while surrounded by her loving family. Laurel was a resident of Albuquerque. She traveled widely during her lifetime to Africa, Europe, and South America. She spoke four languages, and was a talented homemaker, gourmet cook and notable hostess. Laurel raised and inspired four daughters and had a host of friends of all ages and walks of life. She was a talented crafter and jewelry maker and enjoyed music, literature, theater and dance, as well as puzzles of all kinds. Laurel is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Elizabeth Judd and husband, Michael, Marte Adams, Cynthia Lewis and husband, Jim, and Paula Consaul and husband, Ross; five precious grandchildren; grandson-in-law; granddaughter-in-law; and five great-grandchildren. ALBERTS -- Esther "Granny" Alberts, 98, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008. She is survived by her children, Nancy Reichard and Carole Domres and husband, Ronald, all of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Robert Domres and wife, Sherri, Linda Josephson and husband, Raymond, and Deborah Williamson and husband, Denny; two great-grandchildren, Fallon and Theresa; and many other relatives and friends. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alberts; and five brothers and sisters. She was born on August 27, 1909 in Norway to Karl and Thora Abrahamson Edstrom. Esther was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and no memorial service is planned. ALDERSON -- Marian L. Alderson, 85, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away January 29, 2008. Born March 16, 1922 in Emporia, Kansas, Marian lived a number of years in Topeka, KS, Hastings, NE, and Albuquerque, NM before moving to Arizona in 1991. Survivors include her daughter, Royce (John) Freeman of Paradise Valley; one sister, Jean Chittenden of Bethany, OK; daughter-in-law, Karen Alderson of El Cerrito, CA; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and her son, Michael. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Valley Presbyterian Church, Kilgore Chapel, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. ANDERSON -- Sarah Darline Sheen Anderson, "Darline" to all who knew and loved her, died on February 1, 2008 at Anna Kaseman Hospice Care. She was born on November 16, 1918 in Buffalo County, Odessa Township, NE. She had achieved the age of 89 years, two months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Henry Sheen and Ruth Abigial Blanton Sheen and by her husband of 47 years, Eugene "Bud" Anderson, who died in July 1985; infant son, Jock William; three sisters, Dorothy Kennedy, Ruth Richards Shields, Ruby Gutschenritter; and her brother, Lester "Junior" Sheen; a daughter-in-law, Michele Anderson; and brothers-and sisters-in-law, Paul Kennedy, Bill Richards, Willie Shields, Johnny Gutschenritter, Lavonne Sheen, Irene and Don Hein, Joyce and Ardis Anderson, Dwayne, Opal, and Jo Anderson, Leroy and Lillian Anderson, and Celia Anderson; two nieces, Vickie Watson and Gail Anderson; and two nephews, Rod Anderson and Tyler Anderson. She is survived by three children, Terry Anderson and wife, Cathy of Albuquerque, Dennis "Denny" Anderson and wife, Judy of Preston, ID and Jill Anderson and husband, Leander Tamoria of Cambria, CA; six grandsons and three granddaughters, Dawn Anderson, Laura and Carrie Bierck, Brooke and Patrick Smith and Jesse, Nicholas, Daniel and Jonah Tamoria; brothers-in-law, Warren Anderson, Bill Anderson and wife, LaDonna, Ronald Anderson and wife, Dorothy; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends whom she dearly loved. Darline lived in Buffalo County Nebraska for 81 years; two years in Phelps County, NE and six years in Albuquerque. She and husband, Bud lived on farms north of Holdrege, NE and west of Kearney. She completed 10 grades at Alfalfa Center Rural School and then graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney, in 1937. She also took some classes at Kearney State Teachers College. She worked for 20 plus years as a teller and in other capacities for Platte Valley State Bank. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Platte Valley Potato Growers and as a caregiver for Sugar and Spice Childcare Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all that she met and was "the hostess with the mostest." She was a good cook, loved to clean and quilt, loved golf and pinochle, and had a deep appreciation of the beauty and complexity of God's creation. She was a long-time member of the Alfalfa Center Kensington Club and a former member of the Valley View Golf Club. She was active for over 50 years in the First United Methodist Church in Kearney, and was an affiliate member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Albuquerque. She will be missed. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Kearney, NE, with Rev. Dr. Terry Anderson officiating. A service of remembrance will also be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, date and time to be announced. BACCHUS -- Louise Heinlein Bacchus, 98, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, December 9, 2007. She was born February 27, 1909, in Butler, MO, to Rex Ivar and Bam Lyle Heinlein. Louise was one of seven children. All of her siblings predeceased her. She is survived by sons, William and wife, Mary of Arlington, VA and Charles and wife, Charlene of Albuquerque; grandsons, Brett and wife, Claudia of Gold Canyon, AZ and Scott and wife, Erin, of Olathe, KS; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Her third son, Stephen passed away in May, 2007. His widow, Jane Mullins Bacchus lives in Albuquerque. Louise grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a graduate of Central High School, Kansas City Junior College, and the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she earned a B. A. in Psychology. Throughout her school years, she was active in athletics, theater, debate, literary societies and in college was also an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She was married to Wilfred M. Bacchus on October 21, 1933, and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage of almost forty-eight years until his passing in August, 1981. Their first years together were spent in Kansas City, where she worked at a number of depression-era jobs, most notably as a proofreader. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, they lived at several locations in the southwest where "Bud", as he was universally known, worked for Braniff and Continental airlines. With the outset of World War II, they returned to Kansas City, and eventually Bud, after working as a radio instructor for military personnel, became a naval officer serving in the Pacific. In 1947, they returned to Albuquerque, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Louise was a homemaker and he was employed by Sandia Corporation. In Albuquerque, she was active for many years in Trinity Methodist Church. She had a strong interest in politics, in community affairs and enjoyed gardening. Louise had a long and fruitful life and will be sorely missed. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. BERTRAM -- Romilda C. Bertram, 85, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 26, 1922, the oldest daughter of Henry and Clara Ritter. Mrs. Bertram married Maurice J. Bertram on May 4, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN. She was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church of Albuquerque. Mrs. Bertram is survived by her husband of 50 years, Maurice Bertram; daughters, Mary Bujnowski and husband, Stan of Houston, TX, and Marcella Griego and her husband, Steve of Edgewood, NM; son, James Bertram and his wife, Kerry of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Alena, Alex, Leah, Allie, Aaron, Sara, Mikayla, Joey, Ben and Mathias; sisters, Theresa Starks, Dorothy Neuman, Mary Weingardt, and Helen Ritter; and many nieces and nephews. BURT -- Doreen E. Burt, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since moving from Beausejour, Manitoba Canada in 1961, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Jack Burt of Albuquerque, NM; children, Kelly Burt, Darryl Burt, and Glenda McGuire, all from Albuquerque; grandchildren, Amber Burt and Brandon Burt; sisters, Martha May, Erna Palmer, Elsie Patzer and Margaret Wass; brother, Al Martin and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Burt was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Henschell and Esther Schmidt, and brother, Fred Martin. Doreen was a member of Sandia Baptist Church and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. BYERS -- CATHERINE A. BYERS 1922-2008 Catherine A. Byers, Santa Fe, died February 1, 2008 at home surrounded by family following a brief illness. Her husband, Leonard L. Byers, predeceased her in 1988. Born in Simpson, PA, daughter of the late Jacob and Catherine Modec, she was a member of the Christo Rey Church, Santa Fe, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was an active member and past president of the Santa Fe Women's Club and also a member of Bienvenidos of Santa Fe. When not traveling the world, she enjoyed participating in frequent bridge games, going to club meetings and being with friends and family. Surviving her are one daughter, Deb Torrington and son-in-law, Kenneth, San Antonio, TX; and two sons, Michael L. Byers and daughter-in-law, Deidre, Tucson, AZ and Steven N. Byers and daughter-in-law, Suellen, Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Dorothy M. Fedick, Royersford, PA; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. at Cristo Rey Church in Santa Fe on February 3, 2008. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the same church at 11:30 a.m. on February 4, 2008 followed by interment with her husband at Santa Fe National Cemetery. CARPENTER -- Bernard Carpenter, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 31, 2008. Bernie was born on August 7, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA to Robert and Mary A. Carpenter. He served in the US Air Force at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama and at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA. He was a Technical Photographer (retired) at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Butler Services. He and his wife owned and operated, Carpenter's Hearts n Flowers since 1978. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Associate member of the Past Presidents Club and Retired Eagles Club. He has lived in Santa Fe, NM for the past 44 years. CHAVEZ -- Ferminia "Fannie" Chavez, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. An extraordinary mother, a beautiful wife and a great woman of Faith, Fannie placed God and family above all else. She was born in Albuquerque on January 8, 1927 to Tranquilino and Julianita Chavez. Fannie was blessed with a loving childhood surrounded by her many brothers and sisters. She married Ernest, her husband of 55 years, on June 21, 1952 at St. Francis Catholic Church. Fannie was an active and dedicated member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She held numerous church offices including president of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, and the Padre Pio Prayer group. In recent years, she could be seen in the children's room shepherding the young ones while their parents attended services. Her pride and joy was her loving son, Rik, and grandson, David, who affectionately named her "Mima". Mima proudly adopted the precious nickname her grandson coined just for her. In her earlier years she was a professional cake decorator, always in demand for adding that special touch. She also immensely enjoyed the ceramic arts applying her creative talent to innumerable pieces. In the last ten years, Fannie unselfishly gave of herself on a weekly basis, to recite the rosary for the elderly and disabled residents of Encino House. She is survived by her husband, Ernest; her son, Rik and his wife, Lynn; and her grandson, David. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Chavez of Albuquerque and two sisters, Rose Duran of California and Sadie Mares of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe and Richard and one sister, Carmen. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 4, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona SE. Interment will then take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. the same day. ENARSON -- Audrey Pitt Enarson, former First Lady of Ohio State University, died January 26, at the age of 87. The cause of death was complications from Alzheimer's. She was a resident of San Juan Villa, in Port Townsend, WA. She had moved there from Boulder, CO in 2005. Mrs. Enarson was born August 22, l920, in Crownpoint, NM. She attended the University of New Mexico, and graduated in l942. In the same year, she married Harold L. Enarson. Mrs. Enarson's life was largely involved with her husband's career, as she was her husband's partner at Cleveland State University from l966 to l972, and then became the First Lady of Ohio State University from l972 to l982. Prior to living in Ohio, she lived in Albuquerque, NM, where her husband was Academic Vice President, University of New Mexico, from l960 to l966. During her life, Mrs. Enarson was a volunteer for numerous organizations, among them, the National Girl Scout Council, the National Democratic Women's Club, and Habitat for Humanity. She also worked for the rights of the disabled, and was active in the public school system. In l982, Dr. and Mrs. Enarson retired from Ohio State University, and moved to Boulder, CO. Here she enjoyed gardening, and continued and doing volunteer work. Mrs. Enarson was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Enarson, who died July 28, 2006. She is survived by her daughters, Merlyn E. Prentice, of Arlington, Virginia, Elaine Enarson, of Brandon, Manitoba, Lisa Enarson, of Port Townsend, WA; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. GATER -- Alice M. Gater, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Padilla and husband, Danny, of Albuquerque and Charlotte Shanahan of Ft. HANDLEY -- Bob R. Handley died at his home in Shell Beach, CA on Jan. 17, 2008. He was born in Hereford, TX in December 1929 to Ernest and Lois Handley. As a child he moved to Santa Fe and later to Albuquerque. He graduated from AHS and UNM. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1951 he married Beverlee. In 1953 he began working for GMAC as a field representative in Albuquerque. He was transferred to the NYC office in 1969. After eight moves and 41 years of service he retired in Thousand Oaks, CA as manager of the Western Region and a member of the GMAC Executive Committee. He and Beverlee retired to their home in Shell Beach in 1993. He became very active in RAMS (retired active men), the Elks Club and the American Legion. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grover Beach. He was a faithful worker for the South County People's Kitchen for years. He also became a golfer after he retired. Bob and Beverlee had three children, Bobette, Brent and Bill. He is survived by his wife, Beverlee; daughter, Toni B.(Gerhard) Kornberger of Moorpark, CA; son, E. Brent (Jayne) Handley Napa, CA; two granddaughters, Matejka and Bianca Handley; his sister, Yvonne Elliott, Albuquerque and Keno Bay, MX; and sister-in-law, Junile (Bill) Willingham, Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his son, William R. Handley. A Memorial Service was held at his church in California on Monday, January 21, 2008.

Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Higgins. Patricia was a former employee of Sandia Corporation, worked in the Tape Ministry of Hoffmantown Baptist Church, a Teacher Aide at Eastern Hills School, a member and onetime President of The Albuquerque, Garden Club, and a volunteer with The Assistance League of Albuquerque. JELUSICH -- Grace Marie Jelusich, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2008 in Lubbock. Grace and Albert Jelusich were married on July 2, 1933 in Pascagoula. She lived in the Bay area of California from 1934 to 1977 and in Albuquerque from 1977 to 2003. Since 2004 she has lived in Lubbock, being close to family. Grace was an avid golfer, worked as a bookkeeper, and had been President of the Credit Women's Business Club in Hayward, CA. She was an excellent gardener, having an uncanny knack for reviving sick plants, especially African violets. Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Albert; her parents; and all nine of her siblings. Survivors include her daughter, Lois Bajuk, and her husband, Terry, of Lubbock; granddaughter, Karen Howard, and her husband, Mat, of Lubbock, granddaughter, Pam McManus, and her fiance, Phil Dodridge, of Albuquerque, grandson, Sean Bajuk, and his wife, Jane, of Bedford, TX; sister-in-law, Annabelle Mansfield of Metairie, LA; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 39 nieces and nephews. JENSEN -- Robert Scott Jensen "Scott" was born in Superior, Nebraska, January 10, 1951. He passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 27, 2008 with his loving family and friends at his side. Scott and his loving wife, Dolores were married May 17, 1974. Scott, a self-employed Software Developer, received a BA in Psychology and Math and an MBA. He lived in Las Cruces from 1969 to 2004, moving to Albuquerque in June of 2004. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis Jensen and by his stepfather, Donald Pribula. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Dolores C. Jensen; sons, Gabe Jensen and his wife, Gelaine and Josiah Jensen; daughter, Erin Jensen; grandchildren, Lucy and Oliver, all of Albuquerque; his mother, Verline Pribula of Las Cruces; sisters, Karen of Las Cruces, Sandy and her husband, Randy and their children, Robby and Andrea of Weatherford, TX; brother, Daniel and his wife, Maria and their children, Nicholas and Tea of Albuquerque; as well as many other cherished family members and friends who loved and will miss him dearly. She met her husband in Nashville, Tennessee in 1958 and was married in Bay, St Louis and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 30. She retired from Lucent after twenty years of service. She loved to shop and buy things for her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Ashel and their three sons, James, wife Tanya, Raymond, wife Jennifer, Ashel, wife Michele and their families. She had one sister, Peggy; and two brothers, George and Raymond; sister-in law, Kathy; with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father, John; mother, Mary; brother, Frank; and son, Bobby. There will be a celebration of Ricci's life on Saturday, February 9, 2008. SCHWEITZER -- Lophelia (Sarge) Schweitzer, 84, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died Thursday, January 31, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Jones Bailey of Albuquerque; son, Wayne Jones of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Shannon Albreski of Albuquerque, Julie Jones Wagner of Albuquerque, Damon Jones of Grand Junction, CO, and Jennifer Bailey of San Diego, CA; five great-grandchildren; sister, Nadia Clouse of Moriarty, NM; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Albert Schweitzer in 1995. She was retired after 35 years of service from Mountain Bell. Mrs. Schweitzer was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Sarge and her husband (Big Al) enjoyed their family, friends, and fishing trips. SMITH -- Dewey E. Smith, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008. He is survived by his son, Robert E. Smith and wife, Cecilia W. of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, JoAnn Greene of Lawndale, NC; grandchildren, Lesley Worrell and husband, Kevin, Evan Smith and wife, Maria, and Patricia Grigg and husband, Robert; great-grandchildren, Dameon N. Smith, John Robert Grigg, and Kyla C. Worrell; and other relatives and friends. Dewey was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Emma A. Smith. SWEDENBURG -- Reverend Everett Swedenburg died Sunday January 27, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 93. Everett was born on September 5, 1914, in Salina, Kansas, to Theodore and Claudia (Mattson) Swedenburg. He spent his early childhood in Salina and in Smolan, Kansas. He worked for a time at his father's general store and at other jobs, to help support his family during the Depression. In 1939, he left Kansas to attend North Park College in Chicago, Illinois, and later North Park Theological Seminary. He did additional religious study at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. It was in Chicago that he met his future wife, Eldora Wenell of Turlock, California, who was studying nursing at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. They were married in 1944. Everett first served as minister to several congregations of the Evangelical Covenant Church, in the towns of Haddam Neck, Middletown, and Stamford, Connecticut, in Haxtun, Colorado, and in Ceresco, Nebraska. In 1953, he began work with The Covenant Press in Chicago, Illinois. He also had a short career in sales with the National Bible Press, covering territories in the Midwest and California. Everett returned to the ministry in 1961, and joined the United Methodist denomination. He worked in the Northern California and Southern California-Arizona conferences, serving churches in the cities of Turlock, San Francisco, Arcadia, Alhambra, Newhall, Los Altos, Riverside, and Modesto, California, and in Mesa, Arizona. Everett retired in 1981. Since his retirement he and Eldora have lived in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. In 2005, they moved to the La Vida Llena Retirement Community in Albuquerque. Everett is survived by his wife, Eldora; his son, Paul and wife, Nancy Gordon of Germantown, New York; his daughter, Eunice and husband, Gerhard Letzing of Seattle, Washington; and his son, Jon and Julie Fuller of Rio Rancho and Corrales, New Mexico. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kristen (Letzing) Roosevelt and husband, Scott Roosevelt; Sandy Letzing; and Wesley and Matthew Swedenburg. His brother Romain Swedenburg of Spring Valley, California, and two sisters, Ruth Weeks of Salina, Kansas, and Doris Olson of Mercer Island, Washington, also survive him. His brother, Charles Swedenburg of Salina, Kansas, predeceased Everett. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Salina, Kansas, on July 19, 2008. Donations may be made in Everett's memory to North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, or to the Retired Clergy Association (of the California-Nevada Conference, United Methodist Church) Memorial Scholarship Fund.

TERRAZAS -- Mary Ann Terrazas, age 67, born October 9, 1940 died after a courageous struggle with cancer on February 1, 2008. Mary Ann was born in Sumter, SC - the only child of Henry Allen Jayroe and Mabel Lyles Jayroe. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark Anthony Terrazas. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Frank; their daughter, Teresa; and her son-in-law, Philip Gallegos. She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Gilpin and husband, Terry, Susie Jayroe Timmons and her husband, Glen; and brother, Allen Jayroe. Mary Ann was the loving sister-in-law to her extended family in Chihuahua, Mexico, including Alicia Hernandez and husband, Ramon, Zulema Terrazas Ruiz and husband, Eloy, Teresa Terrazas Zapata and husband, Edilberto, and Jesus Terrazas and wife, Carmela; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mary Ann spent her life selflessly caring for her severely handicapped son, Mark. Mary Ann's life was difficult and her sacrifices were many as she fought for the better quality of life not only for her son, but all developmentally disabled individuals seeking a better quality of life. She was a devoted wife and mother who inspired courage, unconditional love, and determination in all whose lives she touched. TIRADO -- Luz Divina Tirado, 87, went to be with her lord on January 31, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on January 21, 1921 to Jose and Petra Hernandez-Valiente in Comerio, Puerto Rico, USA. She was the first of three children, and her parents were sweet and tender and of high morals which they instilled in their children. They imparted in her a deep belief in God, his precepts, his ten commandments and the creation of the universe, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and how he sacrificed himself to give us eternal life. Luz graduated from Comerio High School and went on to receive a Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina in health and nutrition. She worked for the United States government and the Puerto Rican government in health and nutrition education. She married her husband, Pedro F. Tirado in 1948 and is survived by six children; five sons: Frank Tirado, Nelson Tirado, Pedro Tirado Lt Col USAF (Ret)., Dennis Tirado, Milton Tirado, and one daughter, Luz V. Tirado. Luz is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro F. Tirado. She symbolized and personified all the qualities and beauty that is embodied in the word, Mother.
