CARSON -- Callie Carson, Lt. Col. U.S. Army, retired, a longtime resident of New Mexico, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Albuquerque after a long illness. Ms. Carson lived a full and happy life, and she lived it "her way." She was a generous and giving person who touched many lives. She will be missed by all who knew her. COLLINS -- Jack Ray Collins, age, 72 peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on April 12, 1935 to William and Olivia Collins in Holden, WV. Jack served his country proudly for the United States Navy in the Korean War. He was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first, he married Marie in 1984 and she was the love of his life. Jack retired from Rio Rancho Waste Management division and was a supervisor over all the heavy equipment maintenance. Jack was a member of the NRA and a member of the VFW. While living in Tucson, AZ he owned his own ammunition re-load shop and was an avid coin collector. He loved to garden and when his boys were young he loved to take them hunting. Jack loved to spoil his grandchildren and there was nothing that he wouldn't do for them. Jack is survived by his wife, Marie, his children, three sons: Bill, Ray, and Terry Collins, and five daughters: Jackie, Denise Dianne, Dawn, and Debbie. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his two brothers, Bob Collins and David Fike; and his two sisters, Regina and Devina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William Collins and Olivia Fike and his step-father, Ray Fike; one brother, Andy Collins; and one sister, Andriana. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary-Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HOBDY -- Emmett "Lee" Leroy Hobdy, 80, resident of Albuquerque and Los Angeles, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of 60 years; daughter, Lisa Leighton of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Ashley, Hayden, MacKenzie and Carson of Cincinatti, OH. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy. Lee served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Algol in the South Pacific and later went on to become a vice president for Continental Airlines. HOULIK -- Frances Heinige Houlik, 90, died August 17, 2007 at Bayview Nursing Home after a long illness. Formerly of Rio Rancho, NM, she was born in Munich, Germany and lived in New Jersey for many years. She worked as a secretary for Bendix Corp. in Teterboro, NJ, and was a member of the Hackensack New Jersey Hospital Auxiliary. After moving the New Mexico, she was a member of the Lionesses and the Over the Hill Club as well as the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Houlik; a son, William A. Houlik, Jr.; and granddaughter, Jeannine Liutkus. She is survived by a daughter, Carol and her husband, Dr. Stanley Liutkus, residing at 6101 Cutlass Court, New Bern, NC 28560 and granddaughter, Dr. Cynthia Liutkus of Fleetwood, NC. KRAMER -- Patricia Jo Kramer, JD, 43, resident of Gallup, NM passed away Saturday, August 18, 2007. LACOUR -- JOHN CHRIS A Mass for John "Chris" LaCour will be celebrated on Friday August 24, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in St Augustine Catholic church in Melrose with Fr. Jacob Thomas officiating. John "Chris" LaCour died August 17, 2007 at Natchitoches Longterm Care; was born October 29, 1939 to the late Manuel and Annie LaCour. He was a native of Isle Brevelle, Louisiana, he was educated at St James Catholic School in Alexandria, LA. and attended the University of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Manuel and Annie LaCour; his stepmother, Rachel; his parents, Louis and Esther Sibley; and his brothers, Arnold LaCour, and Charles Aaron. He leaves to cherish his memory with love . . . his wife, Audrey; his sons, John Chris Jr. and Charles (Christa) LaCour; four grandchildren, Chantelle Gallaway, John Chris 3rd , Audrey and Lilly LaCour. LANE -- JEFFREY PHELPS Jeff's life was taken suddenly when his single-engine airplane crashed on The Bell Ranch, Wednesday, August 15, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Janet and their children, Travis (Kari), Sarah and Brandon. Jeff was a proud grandfather to Torin, age 3, Macie, age 1, and Mason, age 1. Jeff was born in Lake Forest, IL. He grew up in Libertyville, IL until he was age 8. And from the age 8 to 13 he resided in Lake Forest, IL. At the age 13 he attended Kents Hill School located in Kents Hills, ME and graduated in 1969. Jeff attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO, where he majored in Ag Business. He graduated from Colorado State in 1974 and began working full-time at the Bell Ranch, where he has been employed since. Initially involved in the Bell's registered herd, Jeff became involved in strategic issues impacting the ranch. As President of the Bell's Ranch, Jeff led the ranch's efforts to develop a new breed of cattle and encouraged a much greater focus on wildlife and water management. Jeff was the first and foremost a family man with a deep devotion to his wife, Janet of 33 years and their three children. Jeff had a passion for the west and a love for the Bell Ranch where he had lived for over 30 years. He raised all of his three children on the Bell Ranch and was very active in the ranching community in New Mexico. Jeff personified the cowboy way of life and encouraged his children to actively participate in rodeo and ranch activities. Besides his significant focus on Bell Ranch activities, Jeff was active in both Lane Family and other businesses. He was a director of several banks owned by the Lane Family as well as a bank in New Mexico. Jeff also sat on the boards of GBC, a public company and of Lane Industries. Jeff was an active contributor who challenged conventional thinking and encouraged a long-term view of value creation for owners. Jeff hosted the annual Trail Ride at the Bell Ranch which was a celebration of the cowboy life and was attended by both real and aspiring cowboys. Jeff was a sportsman, with a passion for outdoor activities, a skilled skier and avid tennis player. He was an accomplished pilot and greatly enjoyed flying and airplanes. Last, but not least, Jeff was a people person who enjoyed being with people of all types; whether they were successful business executives, celebrities, politicians or a factory, hotel or ranch employee. Jeff showed a deep and sincere interest in everyone he met and especially those who worked for the Lane Family businesses. As a director he was always questioning the impact of decisions on employees. He cared deeply about people and had a deep and genuine concern for their problems and issues. A Memorial Service will be held for Jeffrey Lane at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007. The setting will be at the Bell Ranch Hacienda. LUCAS -- Rachel Lucas (Ogami) died Sunday, August 19, 2007. She was born in St. Louis, MO, December 28, 1968. Rachel was one of four children. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Stacey Lynn and Gretchen Renee; her nephew, Josh; and her grandparents. She is survived by her parents, Jesse and Evelyn Lucas; her fiance, Dewey Teague; her brother and his family, Jesse Lucas Jr., Lynette Lucas, nephews, Travis, Matthew, Dillon, and Zachary Lucas. Many wonderful aunts and uncles. Many beloved cousins and great cousins. Beautiful, wonderful, and loyal friends, neighbors, and caregivers. Her wonderful church family. Rachel graduated from Manzano High School and went to TVI then to Grand Junction College in CO and Arizona State University. She was a few credits away from her Bachelors Degree in English when she went blind and was unable to finish. Rachel was active in church and loved to go shopping mainly for others. She loved to do artwork, when she could see and she also wrote beautiful poetry and won many contests. Rachel served two terms as the New Mexico State MDA poster child starting in 1981. Rachel enjoyed music, movies, going out to eat, traveling and she really enjoyed her green house planting plants and flowers. We would like to extend great thanks to the Presbyterian Hospital ICU and Kaseman Hospice Staff for their great loving care and support. Our great loss will be Heavens great gain. MARTINEZ -- Edmund Lucio Martinez of Beaulaville, NC, died on August 13, 2007 from advanced Parkinson's Disease. Edmund was a longtime Albuquerque resident prior to relocating to North Carolina over 20 years ago. He was raised in Gallup and was the son of Jose Inez Martinez and Abedonia Mirabel Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Joy; his son, Wesley; his granddaughter, Marty (all residents of North Carolina); his brother, Jose Martinez (of Albuquerque); his sister, Tarsilla Martinez Davidson (of Conway, Arkansas); and many nephews and nieces. Edmund was a World War II veteran and honorably served in the United States Navy for over 30 years. Upon his naval retirement Edmund was an instructor at the University of New Mexico. His remains will be interned at sea.

MERICLE -- Iris L. Mericle, 87, beloved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2007. Iris was born December 24, 1919 the daughter of Claude and Minnie Gerrish Pull in Kenosha, WI. The Mericle family moved to Albuquerque in 1947 from Zion, IL. Iris worked as an LPN for several years, then went to college at age 50 and earned her RN degree. She worked and retired from Presbyterian Hospital. Her passions in life were gardening and cooking. She was a kind and gentle person, loved and respected by all who knew her. She taught her family the meaning of unconditional love. Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, after 65 years of marriage; her parents, Claude and Minnie; and one granddaughter, Angie Mericle. She is survived by four children, Jerry and wife, Sue, Harry and wife, Yukie, Tim (loving caregiver), and Lynn Chirigos and husband, Dean; five grandchildren, Tim Chirigos, Tina Marcus, Vicky Houghton, Scott Mericle, and Tami Schaefer; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Gesell and husband, Elmer; three nieces, Sherry Binyon, Linda Anheirer, and Chris Anderson. SMITH -- Paul H. "Buddy" Smith, 72, died August 17, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born to Paul and Anna Marie Smith in Indianapolis, IN. Paul is survived by his wife, Erna; daughter, Carol and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Christina, Tommy and Abel; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Brianna. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline; and brother, Bob; three other daughters, Paula, Linda, and Shari; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. Paul was a member of Albuquerque Moose Lodge # 1517 and held the degree of Fellow. He retired from Trucking as "Diesel Smoke" then continued his career as a mechanic because he loved to tinker. Buddy also enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing. SULLIVAN -- Ruth Elizabeth Sullivan passed over on Saturday, August 18, 2007. She was born September 21st, 1917 in Deming, NM, and lived most of her life in Albuquerque. She is survived by two sisters, Doris Schoonver and Rose Patten; and two sons, Allen and Richard Templeton; and two stepsons, Tom and Ken Sullivan. She also has 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer A. Templeton and Daniel S. Sullivan and daughters, Norane Eden and Betty Oliver. Viewing will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Daniels Family Funeral Services 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE. Final visitation will be Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. with Services at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Family Chapel. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.

THORNTON -- Allen L. Thornton, age 84, passed away on August 16, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on June 8, 1923 to Frank and Magdalene Thornton in Grotton, SD. Allen grew up in Canada and served the United States Army Air Corp and after leaving the military met his wife, Joan in Minneapolis and they moved to Albuquerque and raised their family, retired from Sandia Laboratories Corporation. Allen is survived by his three children, Mary Thornton of Sandia Park, NM, Leigh Ludington and husband, Wayne, of Helper, UT, and Mark Thornton of Rio Rancho, NM; four grandchildren, Taber Yates and husband, Chris of Albuquerque, NM, Tracy Ludington of Portland, OR, Douglas Ludington and wife, Karla of Los Lunas, NM, Allen Ludington and wife, JoyAnne of Houghton, MI; four great-granddaughters, Alyssa, Hannah, Libby, and Emma; one sister, Dorothy Stiebel and her son, David of Ottawa, CA. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Thornton. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park NE.
