ABEYTA -- John Joseph. J.J. passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2007. He was born on July 30, 1965. He is survived by his daughter, Amber Abeyta; his mother, Chris "Nana" Abeyta; and his sister, Carol Draper. He is also survived by his dear aunts, Cleo Anaya, Nila Ramirez, Elizabeth Fresquez; and a step-daughter, Elicia Summons. He leaves many, many great friends, family and associates. JJ's epitaph will forever read: "He was too good for this Earth" A celebration of JJ's life will take place on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 69 at 9000 4th Street NW. BLACK -- Jennie J. Black, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963 died Friday, August 3, 2007. She leaves behind to honor and celebrate her life her three daughters, Lois Hughes and husband, Robert of Albuquerque, Marilynn Burke and husband, Henry, of Omaha, NE and Karen Fisher of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, Robyn, Heather, Brian, Meredith, David and Daniel; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Levi, Wyatt, Katie, Wade, Lane, and Sarabeth; and one brother, Stanley Kanz of WI. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Earl Black; her parents, Ida and John Kanz; and brother, Alden Kanz. She was born on June 23, 1922 in Shawano, WI. Jennie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She served as a volunteer for the Sun City Sheriff's Posse for 12 years. Jennie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place on Friday, August 10, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. CASAUS -- Jean F. Casaus, 87 of Las Cruces, NM quietly entered eternal life Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Jean is survived by her children, Frank Casaus (Lisa) of Los Angeles, CA; Richard Casaus (Isabel) of Las Cruces, NM; Don Casaus (Christine) of Edgewood, NM; Mike Casaus (Sylvia) of Silver City, NM, Jeanette Casaus of Las Cruces, NM and Kathie Casaus of Albuquerque, NM; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bennie in 2001. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:00 p.m.. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2007 at St., Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina. GATEWOOD -- Esther Gatewood, age 80, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007 in Albuquerque. She was born to Jose and Adela Candelaria on July 1, 1927 in Denver, CO. After marrying Clarence Gatewood in 1951, she devoted her life to her family and spent it taking care of her children while traveling all over the world with her husband, as he served in the United States Army. In her later life she fought a courageous battle with Cancer and against all odds fought through the pain and discomfort to see her family grow. Esther was very dedicated to 2nd Presbyterian Church. She spent a lot of her time involved in the daily activities of the church. Her father was the minister for over 27 years and married all of his children at 2nd Presbyterian Church. Her love for her family and her church will never be forgotten. Esther was the heart of her family. She is survived by her two sons, Donald Gatewood and wife, Evelyn, David Gatewood and wife, Lynn; eight grandchildren, Anna Gatewood-Hobbs and husband, Christopher, Daniel Gatewood and wife, Lisa, Christopher Hulliger, Donna Gatewood-Minson, and husband, Travis, Miguel Gatewood, Barbara Gatewood, Marcus Hulliger, and Nicole Gatewood; four great-grandsons, Chaz Gatewood, Elijah Teachey, Steven Teachey and Travis Minson, Jr; two brothers, Carlos Candelaria and Joe Candelaria and wife, Priscilla; and two sisters, Lena De Herrera and Ruth Boelman and husband, Daryl. Esther is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Gatewood; one daughter, Cheryl Gatewood-Hulliger; a granddaughter, Criselda Gatewood-Teachey; and sister, Fidelia Herrera. GONZALES -- Tomasita "Tommie" Gonzales, age 95, of Albuquerque, went home Saturday, August 4, 2007. She was born in Albuquerque to Roman and Beatriz Sena on April 8, 1912. Tomasita grew up in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque in a loving and caring family. She married the love of her life, Tomas Gonzales, who preceded her in death in 1982. They owned and operated Gonzales Plumbing and Heating business for many years. Tomasita, the eldest of eight children, was a mentor and the very foundation of the family. She provided unconditional help and support to her siblings and friends alike. Tomasita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her children, Robert Gonzales and Eleanor his wife; Jeanette Whitehead and Robert her husband; grandchildren, Tom, Gerritt, Cindy and Brenda; great-grandchildren, Daniella, Christina, Lachlan, Anita, Ben, Dallas, Amanda, and Alexandria; sisters, Esther Griego and Dolores Gamboa. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. NW, and will celebrate her life with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 9:00 a.m., also at the church. GROVES -- Adrienne Groves, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2007. She is survived by her two loving adult children, daughter-in-law, grandson, and many adoring relatives, friends and neighbors. Adrienne will be remembered as an accomplished wife, mother, grandmother, friend, world traveler, and as a dedicated nursing professional. She led an interesting and full life and will be missed by the many people she touched. LAW -- DANNY CARL SFC Danny C. Law, USAR (ret.), age 47, a resident of Bosque Farms, lost his hard fought battle with cancer on August 3, 2007 and reported to his final duty station in heaven. Danny was a graduate of Pojoaque High School, Class of 1977. He served in the United States Army with honor and distinction from 1977 until his retirement in 2000. Danny continued to serve his fellow veterans by working at the VA Behavioral Health Center in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Law; mother, Annabell Law; two brothers, Kenneth and David Law and his brother-in-law, Curtis "Woopie" Guinn. He is survived by his wife, Ilona; son, Steven and daughter, Sandra, all of Bosque Farms; sister, Patricia and her family in Agra, OK; mother-in-law, Rosemarie Hentschel in Amberg, Germany; brother-in-law, Wolfgang Hentschel and his family in Amberg, Germany; sister-in-law, Ramona Hull and her family in Killeen, TX; Manuela Lopez and her family in Amberg, Germany and many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews throughout New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon. NELSON -- Virginia (Yager) Nelson, (93), a resident of Albuquerque NM for the past 10 years, passed away Monday, July 30, 2007. Her husband, Duane, preceded her in death by 20 years. She is survived by her son, Dr. Burke Nelson and wife, Ivonne, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Mark, Jill, Burke Jr. and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, James, Veronica, and Donovan. Born in Hastings, NE in 1914, she and her husband traveled extensively through his assignments with the U.S. Agriculture Department and the Agency for International Development. She most recently resided at Valle Norte Caring Center in Albuquerque. She will be buried at the family plot in Juniata, NE. NEU -- RICHARD L. Dick passed away on Friday morning, August 3, 2007 of pancreatic cancer. He was born on March 12, 1936 to Hugo and Gertrude Neu in Syracuse, NY. He is survived by a brother, Hugo; and sister-in-law, Rebeccah Neu of Albuquerque, NM; a niece, Tiffani Neu of Seabrook, TX; aunts and uncles, Helen and Bob Council of Columbus, OH, Jo and Paul Huebner of Orwigsburg, PA; and many cousins and dear friends. Dick attended Delaware Junior High School, graduated from Syracuse Central High School in 1954 and received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees from SUNY College of Forestry at Syracuse University. He changed his career from forest genetics to human cytogenetics in 1963. Dick was a faculty member in the pediatric departments at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, SUNY Children's Hospital of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He taught human cytogenetics to second year medical students and was director of the diagnostic cytogenetic laboratories at these medical schools. He was also a Laboratory Director in the private sector at Bio-Science (now Quest Lab) in Van Nuys, CA and spent the last 11 years of his career at Genzyme Genetics (formerly Vivigen and Integrated Genetics) in Santa Fe, NM. He retired in 1998 and moved to Albuquerque, NM. Dick was Board Certified as a Clinical Cytogeneticist by the American Board of Medical Genetics, and he authored or co-authored over 100 articles and book chapters in cytogenetics during his career. Dick filled his retirement years with consulting work, gardening and travel at home and abroad with friends. Cremation has taken place and interment will be with his parents in Syracuse. Dick wants to be with his parents at the Resurrection. He was an active member in his church and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, (505-299-2621) 9100 Menaul, Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, NM 87112. RISBERG -- Lorraine I. Risberg, 63, of Albuquerque, died on Friday August 3, 2007, after gracefully battling Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 9, 1944 Phil and Mary Lennon. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Risberg; her two daughters, Debbie Risberg and Tracy McFadden and her husband, Scott ; one grandson, Kellan McFadden; and brother, Larry Lennon and his wife, Kathy. Lorraine was a great cook and liked to sew and knit. She worked for the Phillips Lab until Alzheimer's kept her from doing so. She was the best mom and the kindest soul. STEINKAMP -- Helen Lucille Steinkamp, 84 of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007 in Bradenton; FL. Mrs. Steinkamp was born on August 28, 1922 in Murray, NE. She was a resident of Albuquerque from 1959 until March of 2007 when she and her husband moved to Sarasota, Fl. Mrs. Steinkamp was retired from the Peat Marwick Mitchell Company in Albuquerque with over 20 years of service. She was attended the Hoffman Town Baptist Church and was an avid square dancer in Albuquerque. Survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, William F. Steinkamp of Sarasota, FL; son, William L. (Natalie) Steinkamp of Tyler, TX; daughter, Diane (Henry J.) Gustafson of Bradenton, FL; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
