ARCHIBEQUE -- Georgia Morine Meeks (Vaughn, NM) Georgia Morine Meeks Archibeque passed away on May 10, 2007, at the Betty Dare Good Samaritan Center, Alamogordo, NM. Maurine was born January 13, 1921 in Vaughn, NM to the union of George M Lewis and Margaret McNeill. She attended Vaughn High School and was valedictorian of the Class of 1937. Four sons were born to Maurine and Clayton, George Clayton, William Patrick (Pat), James Michael (Mike), and Clayton Taylor (Taylor). Maurine was a loving and caring Mother who could have written the book on "1001 ways to cook ground beef" ... she was a wonderful cook. This was evident when she and the band parents club took over the lunchroom and provided meals for the school system. She became the 'head cook' and began a program of preparing fresh hot rolls with the meals.... remembered by many. She worked for many years at the Vaughn Mercantile and eventually opened a small store with a fresh meat market. Maurine also served as a member of the emergency responder team with the Town of Vaughn, riding with the ambulance whenever necessary; taking blood pressures at the Senior Citizens Center.... her thrill at assisting in the delivery of a baby was a highlight of this 'job'. Maurine is survived by her husband, Louis Archibeque of Vaughn; three sons, Pat (Carol) Meeks of Artesia, Mike Meeks of Las Cruces and Taylor Meeks of Deming. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Keith Meeks of Memphis, Tennessee, Merien "Bit" Alexander of Deming, Kipp (Kim) Meeks of Denver, Colorado, Martha Morine "Sam" (Scott) Watson of Dora, and Margaret Michele "Shelly" Meeks of Burleson, Texas. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Tanner Clayton Meeks, Tucker Cole Meeks, Terner Carlos Meeks, Tyler Chance Watson, Terral Lee Watson, Tanessa Len Watson, Trinity Gene Watson and Cassandra Lynn Hooten. She is predeceased by her parents, Clayton T Meeks, George Clayton Meeks, siblings Leo Brancfield, Marguerite Knight, Hope Smith, Ruby Lawrence and Frank Brancfield. DAVENPORT -- Marion "King" Davenport 1929 - 2007 King was born in Kansas and raised in Kansas and Iowa. He met Gretchen in 1953 on return from the Korean War. They married 6 months later and started their family of 3 girls. King served his country proudly in the Korean War. In 1985 he renewed many of those military connections and started the 765th army reunion that has continued to meet annually since. Those friendships meant so much to him and Gretchen over the last 22 years. King worked as a machinist for General Electric until his retirement in 1989. King and his wife, Gretchen, had an ongoing "Taco Tuesday" lunch date with good friend, Rosie Cox, that continued after Gretchen's death. Rosie's faithful friendship was appreciated by both King and his family. King was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gretchen, just 4 short months ago. As King said many times, "Her death left a hole in my heart," that he never recovered from. King was also preceded in death by his mother, Myrta Eklund. Surviving him are his daughters, Valerie Smith and husband, Jerry of Los Lunas, Victoria Farris and husband, Neil of Idaho, and Judy Brooks and husband, Mark of Los Lunas; sister, Myrna Davidson of Washington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. King will be buried in Oklahoma at a future date with his wife, Gretchen at the same time. King was a man of integrity. He would often say, "A man's word was as good as his handshake." If you were fortunate to have been on the other end of that handshake, you could be guaranteed he would follow through to his word. In the quiet of one morning at the hospital at 3 a.m., to his daughter King said, "I gave her (the world) hell as long as I could." We were so glad you did and will be greatly missed. King's family will receive friends for light refreshments at Grace Fellowship, 3384 Hwy 47 in Los Lunas, from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2007 (King's birthday). In lieu of flowers, King's request was that you send flowers to a significant person in your life, to let them know they are loved and appreciated. You don't want to miss that opportunity that may never come again.

DIGNEO -- Edward M. Digneo died at home on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2007. He was 94. His loving wife, Stella Ellen Blanchard Digneo, preceded him in death in 2001. The most cherished 42 years of his life were with her. Edward is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette Marie Digneo and Bill Gould; son and daughter-in-law, Vincent Edward and Nicole Watson Digneo; his brother, Robert Digneo; cousin, Ralph Digneo; and many nieces and nephews. Edward was born in Santa Fe on January 24, 1913 to Americo and Margaret Berardinelli Digneo, whose descendants were commissioned to Santa Fe in the mid-1800s by Archbishop Lamy to architect, engineer, and build many local, historically registered buildings, including the St. Francis Cathedral Basilica. He graduated from St. Michael's College (high school), the George Washington University and the University of New Mexico as an undergraduate, and attended the University of California at Berkeley where he received a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences in 1941. Within months of graduation, Edward was given a commission into the United States Navy and reported to active duty 6 months prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He spent a short, and self-described "intense period" on assignment in Costa Rica as one of the Navy's first environmental biologists. He served the majority of World War II in the Pacific, most notably at Midway Island, and later as a Commander on the USS Kitty Hawk. After 21 years of service, Edward retired from active duty as a decorated Lieutenant Commander and spent a few years in the Naval Reserves. In his post-Naval career, Edward co-founded an oil and gas leasing firm which he operated until the late 1970s. Along with his colleagues, he sold the business to Standard Oil in 1978. A most revered and memorable occasion came in 1951. While in Italy, Edward had the privilege of attending a private audience with Pope Pius XI. His Holiness personally greeted Edward and his small group of traveling companions, which served as a defining moment in Edward's life. He was inspired to return to the United States to play a very active voluntary role in the St. Francis Catholic Community. In the early 1970s, he helped establish shelters and provide food and clothing for many of Santa Fe's homeless. He spent nearly 20 years in active volunteer service with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and as a eucharistic minister. From an early age, Edward had a passion for drawing and painting and was recognized locally as an accomplished and prolific artist. He had many friends throughout the Santa Fe artist community and continued to paint up to a few years before his death. A Rosary will be said at Berardinelli Mortuary on Sunday evening, May 13, 2007 at 7:00 with Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral Basilica on Monday, May 14, 2007 10:00 a.m. A private burial of his ashes, along side his wife's, will be held on Tuesday morning at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Carmelite Monastery, 49 Mt. Carmel Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87505 or St. Vincent de Paul, 213 Cathedral Pl., Santa Fe, NM 87501. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Services, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM, 87505. (505) 984-8600.

LUCERO -- LORETTA (LOUISE) Happy Mother's Day Sister In Loving Memory of Loretta Lucero (Louise) If I gave away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may raise, but did not have LOVE I had nothing. Love is to be patient kind and love is not to be jealous, rude or to be quick tempered, nor does it seek it's own interests, Love does not brood over injury, Love does not rejoice over wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. My sister's Love bared all things, believed in all things, hoped in all things and also her Love endured in all things. For those who she knew Loved her, Love never failed. For those who are selfish and in just they will be brought to nothing. So Faith, Hope, and Love remain but the greatest of all is Love. I LOVE YOU Louise yes you loved me more I love you infinity yes you loved me infinity x 2. God Bless you and always keep you in his care. I believe you are not gone but just moved on. Till we meet again in Eternity you will never be forgotten for we are and were connected at heart. Barbara and Family I truly miss you Infinity x 2 Sister Thelma

WILLIAMS -- Barbara I. Williams, a long-time resident of Los Alamos, died peacefully in her sleep on May 6 in Sandy, UT, after a long and fruitful life. She was 85. "Barb" was born on August 6, 1921 in Marion, MI, to Edward and Ida Innis (nee Bell), and moved a few years later to Denver, CO. It was in Denver that Barbara met the one love of her life, Arthur (Art) H. Williams. They married in Denver in 1942, just before Art joined the US Army Air Corps during WWII. While Art was on Tinian Island, Barb finished her studies at the University of Denver, earning a BA in Library Science in 1943. After Art returned from WWII, Barb and Art lived in Denver while Art pursued degrees in Physics and Mathematics, earning a BS in both fields in 1950. While Art attended school, Barb worked as a staff librarian in the university library. After Art finished college, the young couple moved to Sunspot, NM, where Art worked as an astronomer for the Sacramento Peak solar observatory (now known as the National Solar Observatory). Very soon after arriving at "Sac Peak," Art co-authored a paper that got the attention of Berlyn Brixner of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. Brixner hired Art in 1950, and consequently, Art, Barb and their newborn son, Chriss, moved to Los Alamos in December of the same year. Art and Barb immediately fell in love with Los Alamos and its mountain environment, and decided to stay and raise a family there. At first, Barb stayed at home with the kids while Art worked at the Lab. Finally, when their youngest son, Forrest, was old enough to attend first grade, Barb went back to work. Starting in 1964, Barb worked as a school librarian for Los Alamos Public Schools for the next twenty years. Barb touched the lives of countless children while librarian at Pajarito Elementary, Aspen Elementary and Pueblo Junior High Schools. The hundreds of letters and artwork that Barb received over the years from current and former students are a testimony to the love and devotion that she gave every day to her job, and to the children that were the focus of her life's work. She was an even more devoted mother. In 1974, Chriss died unexpectedly during an epileptic seizure. Throughout the crisis brought on by Chriss' untimely death, Barb remained steadfast as the family's anchor in stormy seas. Then, Art passed away in 1991 shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Again, even though she had lost her soul mate, Barb remained as strong and dynamic as ever, and was the rock for the rest of her family - Barb's spirit could not be denied! In 2003, Barb began to need help in her daily life. At first, she went to live with her daughter's (Edie's) family in Albuquerque, and thereafter moved in 2004 to Alta Ridge Assisted Living in Sandy, UT, where she could be closer to Forrest (who lives in nearby Cottonwood Heights, UT). The family thanks the staff of Alta Ridge for all the help and care they provided Barb for the three-and-a-half years that she was with them, and thanks Julee and everyone else with Haven Hospice for the tremendous support they provided in the last two years of Barb's life. Special thanks are also due to Helen Carpenter of Los Alamos for all the love and help she has given Barb and her family over the years. Barb is survived by her brother Bob Innis and his wife Elizabeth Innis, son Dean and his wife Sarah Williams, son Forrest and his wife Anna Williams, daughter, Edalyn (Edie) Johnson and Edie's husband Stan Johnson; grandchildren Rob Williams, Rachel Williams and Kaelyn Johnson; and three great-grandchildren Kassy, Savannah, and Trinity Williams. A Memorial Service celebrating Barb's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 18, at the United Church in Los Alamos, NM, followed by interment at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.
