ALLEN -- Elva Francine Lerke Allen, 78, a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Tucumcari, passed away on Saturday April 7, 2007, peacefully surrounded by her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Lynn Mosher and husband, Jerry, Michael Lerke and wife, Wanda, and Todd Lerke, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michael Barnes, Darren Barnes and wife, Francine, Layla Linn, James Mosher and wife, Jessica, and Miranda Lerke; great-grandchildren, Jon Paul Marquez, Renton Barnes, and Cadence Mosher. Also surviving is her step-daughter, Debbie Dysart and family; sister, JoNell Sammons and husband, LeRoy; and nieces and nephews. Grandma's other special people in her life are Sheran, Rob, Rachael, Felicia, Tina, Heidi, and Grandpaw and her online friends. Francine was preceded in death by her husband, William Allen. BACA -- Herman B. Baca, 90, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Saturday, April 7, 2007. He was born in Villa Nueva, NM and was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, where he worked as a roofer. FORNOFF -- Frederick Fornoff, 95, of Albuquerque died Thursday, April 5, 2007 after a long illness. He was born in Santa Fe, NM on October 14, 1911, before New Mexico became a State. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Fornoff; mother, Lullie; brother, Howell; sister, Dorothy and granddaughter, Melissa Ruth. He is survived by wife Lois; sons, Dr. Frederick Fornoff/Sara of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Richard Fornoff/Julie of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Brandon, Karen, Jeremy, Dylan, Catherine and John; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Tressie Glaze; cousin, James Borland of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. As a boy, Frederick was a marble champion of Albuquerque. His school mates called him "Iron Muscles" and he was always there to protect his little brother, Howell, from bullies. He was also the best billiard player in Albuquerque, whenever Jimmy Moore was out of town. Frederick was a highly decorated veteran of WWII. The men in his unit called him "The Old Man" because he was 10 years older than the rest of them. Before the war he had been through boot camp with the 120th Infantry Division. After the entrance of the U. S. into the war, Frederick was recalled for training in the Mojave Desert and in Louisiana. His company was part of the 357th Regiment of the 90th Infantry Division that landed on Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day in June 1944. From June until the surrender of the German High Command on May 7, 1945, his regiment fought in battles in Belgium, France and Germany (the Maginot Line, the Siegfried Line), and many others. Frederic was decorated by Generals Eisenhower and Patton, receiving three Bronze Stars for Heroic action. As one of the most decorated soldiers in his company, he received early discharge on March 28, 1945 and returned to Albuquerque, where he was employed by and retired from Sears Roebuck in 1968. After retirement, he and Lois made the most of their free time exploring the beauties of the U.S. and Canada in their motor home. Frederick had a wonderful sense of humor; he was loved by all and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church where a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place with private family services at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, not far from the grave of his father, Fred Fornoff (1859 - 1935), who was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, City Marshal of Albuquerque in 1898 and later, Captain of the New Mexico Mounted Police. GILLIGAN -- Morris W. Gilligan, retired homebuilder of Rio Rancho, passed away on April 8, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Estelle; four children, Ronald Gilligan, Janis Malkewicz, Kevin Gilligan, and Jeff Gilligan; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Maxine Aubert, Jeanine Hillabrant, and Shirley Bent; one brother, Richard Nichols, many nieces, nephews, in- and out-laws, countless friends and cherished dogs. HENINGTON -- Rex Clark Henington, age 61, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, went to meet his Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2007, after a short battle with cancer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, and was employed by the Los Lunas Schools as athletic director for Los Lunas High School. Rex was an outstanding 3 sport athlete and 4-yr letterman at Belen High. He played college football at UNM, winning the Chuck Cummings Spirit Award his senior year. He then went on to become a very successful head football coach at Clovis, Las Cruces High (undefeated season, State Champs 1975), Belen High, Hobbs High. Success wasn't always measured in wins, but in the way he touched the lives of many young men in the state of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence; and his in-laws, Dave and Virginia Sharp. Rex is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Sue Henington, his three sons, Jeff and his wife, Angie of Rio Rancho, Brian and his wife, Shauna of Rio Rancho, and Greg of Los Lunas; and his seven grandchildren, Shelby, Zach, Mickey, Montana, Bailee, Traigh, and Ashton. He is also survived by his father, Graham Henington and wife, Edna; brothers, Mack, Scott and his wife, Janette, Bruce and his wife, Vicki, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, April 9, from 1:30-6:00 p.m. A Funeral Services will take place at First Baptist Church of Belen, with Dr. Bruce Baker presiding, on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. KELLEY -- David Otis Kelley, 98, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, April 8, 2007. He was born in Newport, TX and at age 10, came with his parents and brothers to a homestead near Clovis. He was graduated from Clovis High School in 1927 and continued his education at the University of Southern California, earning the B.A. and M.A. degrees. During summers he did additional graduate work at the University of Chicago. He was a teacher librarian in the Burbank, CA secondary schools, and in 1937 became a professor-librarian at George Pepperdine College in Los Angeles. He served as Assistant Director of Libraries and Instructor of Personnel Administration at the University of Nebraska, and Director of the Library School at the University of Kentucky. In 1949 he began as Director of the General Library of the University of New Mexico, retiring in 1973. He was a life member of the American Library Association, a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Sigma Alpha, Phi Delta Kappa, and was in Who's Who in America. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder in two Albuquerque congregations. MEYER -- Ralph P. Meyer, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, passed away Friday, April 6, 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Meyer-Jacks and husband, Jack of Albuquerque; sons, Robert Meyer of Chicago, IL, Steven Meyer and wife, Sheryl of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Aidan and Connor Meyer-Jacks, Emily and Kate Meyer; sisters, Virginia Marzen and husband, Max of New Albin, IA, Karen Adams and husband, Tom of La Crosse, WI. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Gaul Meyer in 1996 and his parents, Irvin and Claudia Meyer. He was raised on a farm near New Albin, IA. Following graduation from Loras College, Ralph spent numerous years working in Catholic parishes and schools for the Archdiocese of Dubuque, IA. In 1971, he began serving as an assistant principal at St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque. In 1972, he and Laura married and lovingly raised their family. Ralph enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling both here and abroad - often seeing a Chicago Cubs game along the way. Ralph was devoted to his family and his Catholic faith and will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched. MURPHY -- Raymond G. (Jerry) Murphy died on Good Friday, April 6, 2007, from complications resulting from an extended illness diagnosed as Lewy Bodies Dementia (DLB), a disease with structures and symptoms similar to Alzheimer's Disease. He was a patient at the Veterans Administration facility in Pueblo, CO. Jerry was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, having been presented the medal in 1953 by President Dwight Eisenhower in recognition of Murphy's heroic efforts during the Korean War, as a member of the United States Marines. Murphy was born in 1930 and grew up primarily in Pueblo, CO. He attended both Ft. Lewis College in Durango, and Adams State in Alamosa. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Sandoval of Santa Fe. He is also survived by four children, John Murphy and his wife Sara (of Massachusetts), Eleanor Murphy and her friend Peter Cresci (of New York) Michael Sandoval and his wife Gina (of Tucson), and Tim Murphy and his wife Norma (of Albuquerque). He also has eight grandchildren, Christopher, Erin, and Jane Murphy; Sydney and Stephanie Sandoval; and Damien Chavez, Ray and Michael Murphy. A Prayer Service will be held at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel NE. PIERCE -- Prudence M. Pierce, (Prudy), passed away April 4, 2007, in Albuquerque, after a brief illness. Prudy was born in New Kensington, PA, on February 23, 1945. She came to New Mexico in 1963 to attend UNM, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Prudy leaves behind her husband of 36 years, Thomas; and her son, Thomas III. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan McLanahan of Leechburg, PA; her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rich Carlson, of Suwanee, GA; three nephews; a niece, three grand-nephews; and of course, Poopsie; and all her beloved horses. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, in Albuquerque. SCOTT -- Norman W. Scott, age 84 passed away on April 8, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on August 30, 1922 to Andrew and Margaret Scott in Weymouth, MA. Norman proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. After his discharge, Norman came west to attend the University of Denver. While living in Denver, he met and married Merilu Parker in 1949, his wife of 49 years. They moved to Albuquerque in 1954, where he continued working as a traveling salesman; selling farm machinery. Norman started working for Sandia Labs in 1956 where he had a 28 year career in the security department. Norm's retirement was devoted to golf, church and family. He will always be missed and has been re-united with his wife, Merilu. Norman is survived by his daughter, Kim Isaac and her husband, Dennis, of San Francisco, CA; one granddaughter, Dana Isaac; one brother, Jim Scott and wife, Angela of Newton, MA; and a brother-in-law, Robert Hunter of Pratt, KS; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. SILVA -- Eduardo "Lalo" Silva, born March 29, 1919, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. He was an extraordinary man. Un hombre extraordinario, of great unwavering faith, great love for family and friends and a man of great talent. Lalo was a published composer, musician and poet. One of his greatest wishes was that his music would live on, so that the words and songs would lead us to find peace of mind and guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Some of his best known songs include "Hacer Esto En Memoria De Mi" and "El Dia De Las Madres." As Lalo taught us how to live a life of love, peace and joy, he taught us to die with dignity and grace. His spirit, his music, his unwavering devotion to God and his family will live in us forever. Vaya con Dios. He was preceded in death by his parents, Severa and Adolfo Silva; his son, Robert; his brothers, Prospero, Miguel, Fidel, and Abran; and his sisters, Emma and Josefita. Lalo is survived by the love of his life, Rafaelita to whom he was married for 64 years; and his sister, Ramona Jaramillo. He also leaves behind five daughters, Sister Eva Silva OP, Victoria Silva, Felice Cervantes and her husband, Jose, Gloria Ortiz and husband, Michael, and Angela Baum and her husband, Fred. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Robert, Trinidad, Sonya, Jason, Juanita (Honey 2), Jessica, Micah, Matthew, Ian, Rosa Isela, Marisol, Rocio, Jose, Jesus, Cristina; and 13 great-grandchildren. SKOUSEN -- Jane Vinson Skousen, passed away after a brief battle with lung cancer on Saturday, with her family at her bedside. She was a loving wife to Daniel, mother to Daniel D. (III), Syndi, Kevin, and Kelly, and nana to Whitney, Eric, Dane, Haley Jane, and Brody. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara, and niece, Barbara Jane Kramer, daughter-in-law, Sukey Skousen, and son-in-law, Seth Steer. Her parents, Clarence and Pauline Vinson, preceded her in death. Jane was born in Conroe, TX, on August 20, 1936, she attended elementary and secondary schools in Hobbs, NM, and attended UNM where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. Jane later worked at Sandia Base (now Kirtland Air Force Base). Married to Daniel D. Skousen, Jr. for 42 years, the couple was a mainstay in the Four Hills neighborhood and country club, as well as the road construction business. She was a loving homemaker, a gracious hostess, and an avid reader. Jane spent many hours on the tennis court at the club with good friends. Janey's love was infectious. She sends her love to you all and we know you'll miss her. SOTO -- Henry W. Soto, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1978, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Born September 11, 1918 in New York City, Henry was the son of Maximiliano Francisco Soto and Miriam Hanah (Swarts) Soto and the grandson of Dr. Marco Aurelio Soto, president of Honduras from 1876 to 1883. He was a graduate of Columbia High School in South Orange/Maplewood, NJ. An avid tennis player in his youth, Henry was a member of the Jr. Davis Cup team and with his doubles partner won the National Indoor Junior Doubles Championship in 1934, and later played against such tennis notables as Don Budge and Poncho Seguras. Henry was a Bronze Star recipient, having served with the 76th Infantry in the European Theater in WWII. After moving to Goshen, NY, Henry joined United Delco as a dealer sales representative, retiring after 27 years of service. He was also a member of the Orange County Golf Club where he scored a hole-in-one, and later a member of the Rio Rancho Country Club. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, "Prudy"; brothers, Marco Aurelio Soto III and Maximiliano Francisco Soto Jr.; and oldest son of Marco Aurelio Soto IV. He is survived by sons, George T. Soto of Albuquerque, Edward C. Soto and wife, Pam of Chesterfield, VA, and Henry Bruce Soto and wife, Lynne of Whitefish Bay, WI; as well as grandson, Marco W. Fox of Honesdale, PA; and great-grandson, John Everett of Matamoras, PA. Henry's ashes will be placed with those of his wife in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho on Saturday, April 14, 2007. TAGGART -- Jean. Mrs. Jean Marian Taggart, born December 11, 1923, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James C. Taggart. Jean is survived by her daughter, Karen Campbell, MD and husband Homer of Albuquerque, NM; her son Steve Taggart, MD and wife Tristan of Escondido, CA; and her three grandchildren, Rachel Kelly, Sean Taggart and Bryan Taggart of California. Jean was born in Buffalo, NY. She was a physical education teacher in Indianapolis, IN prior to the birth of her daughter. Jean has been a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 50 years. For many of those 50 years, Jean was a substitute and companion teacher with the Albuquerque Public Schools. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 3:00 p.m., at Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Avenue, NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jean's name to a Parkinson's Research Foundation of your choice. Sweet be their rest, And gentle be their sleeping. ZINN -- Clarence S. Zinn Jr., 72, a resident of Moriarty for over 20 years, died Sunday, April 1, 2007.
