BENAVIDEZ -- EDWARD F. Mr. Edward F. Benavidez, 58, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 30, 2006. Mr. Benavidez is survived by his mother, Marina O. Benavidez; two sons, Mario M. Benavidez and Javier R. Benavidez; his sister, Rosella Garcia and husband, Frank; a grandchild on the way; any many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward Benavidez and his brother, Michael Benavidez. He was a proud attorney born and raised in New Mexico who loved his community and spent his life fighting for justice for those underrepresented within. Through his heartfelt love and passion for justice, he met with several U.S. and Mexican Presidents, the King of Spain, was Counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States, was a founding member and President of the N. M. Hispanic Bar Association, served as a Commissioner to the Civil Legal Services Commission, was appointed by the United States Secretary of State to the Administrative Conference of the U.S., served on the National Board of Directors of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, was National Vice-president of the National Council on Legal Education Opportunity, was National and State Legal Advisor to the American G.I. Forum, was Vice-president of La Compania de Teatro de Alburquerque and Vice President of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce of Santa Fe. He also served as a commissioner for judicial appointments to the NM Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Second Judicial District Court of NM, and Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court. He received various awards and honors from the NM Hispanic Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, La Hispanidad, the Council on Legal Education Opportunity, American University, and the Whitney Foundation. In 2000 he was honored with the "Liberty and Justice" Award for Exemplary Lifetime Commitment to Promoting Liberty and Justice for All. Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Pastor Danny Sanchez, presider. BETANCOURT -- Rebecca Betancourt, 36, passed away on October 28, 2006. She is survived by her parents, Gabriel and Nellie Betancourt; brother, Gabriel Betancourt and wife, Patrice Ligi; children, Whitney, Gabriel, and Vanessa Betancourt; uncle, Joe and aunt, Rosie Betancourt from California; uncle, Larry and aunt, Louise Betancourt; aunt, Susie and uncle, Lawrance Gallegos; aunt, Jessie and uncle, Jimmy Gonzales from California; aunt, Lydia and uncle, Joe Garcia; aunt, Eva and uncle, Richard Connelly; aunt, Ruth and uncle, Jimmy Borunda; aunt, Stella; niece, Addie; nephew, Jermey; niece, Tristin; and great-nephew, Alik; many beautiful loving cousins; and a special friend, David Blair. BLYTHE -- Dustin "Dust" Blythe, 24, died Thursday October 26, 2006. CLEMENT -- William L. (Bill) Clement passed away October 25, 2006 at age 75 from multiple myeloma. He was born near Scotia, NE, to Phoebe Kilpatrick Clement and Alvah Clement on October 20, 1931. He is survived by Audrey Bombeck Clement (his wife of over 50 years); three children, J. Bradley, Valerie, and Ryan; daughter-in-law, Theresa; and grandchildren, Kyle and Alexandria, all of Albuquerque. He is survived by a brother, Alfred; and a sister, Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; one half-brother; and six half-sisters. He received his GED from Grand Island (NE) Senior High School and his electrical engineering degrees from the University of Nebraska (BS) and the University of New Mexico (MS). His interest in electronics began at age 16 when he serviced jukeboxes and pinball machines throughout central Nebraska. During the Korean War he served in Korea and Japan in the 7th Cavalry Regiment as a trajectory computer in the fire direction center of the Heavy Mortar Co. In 1955 he and his wife, Audrey, moved to Albuquerque. He retired from Sandia National Labs where he worked on the design, troubleshooting, and manufacture of safety and security components for nuclear weapons. He served as Republican precinct and ward chairman during the first campaigns of Manuel Lujan and Senator Pete Domenici. In recent years he became dismayed with politicians and began working on a voters' bill of rights, striving to increase the integrity, honesty, and accountability of elected officials. Bill was a life member of the IEEE, a member of the Sandia Thunderbirds, the Roadrunner RV Club, and the American Legion. Bill enjoyed camping, traveling, and fishing. He deeply appreciated Audrey's musical talent and supported her in her musical hobbies, recording many performances of her Sweet Adelines Barbershop Quartet. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to the American Cancer Society. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Bill's wishes there will be no service. Remains will be inurned at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.

Floyd is the son of Sarah Rogers Diem and the late Ernest Diem. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Diem; and sons, Kevin Diem and wife, Nita Diem of Albuquerque, Alan Diem of Albuquerque, and Bryan Diem and wife, Michelle Diem of Columbiaville, MI; grandchildren, Rhianna, Amanda, Sarah, Alison, Devin, Kate, and Craig; and numerous brothers; and his sister. LUTZ -- Patricia "Patti" Lutz , passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2006. At 54 years of age Patti peacefully completed her journey here on earth. She was born December 10, 1951 in Yuma, AZ to T.C. Curlee and Beverly (Curlee) Shepperd, who preceded her in death. She was the middle child of nine siblings. Patti was raised in Yuma, but lived many different places in her life, including Phoenix and Mesa, AZ, Utah, Hawaii, California, and New Mexico. With her fun loving nature, beautiful smile, and positive outlook, she made friends easily wherever she went. Although she considered motherhood her greatest accomplishment, she amazed everyone when she overcame many obstacles and began a very successful career in Real Estate. In 1987 she earned her license and began working at Sunland Realty with Larry Garcia, who became her mentor and special friend. In 2002 Patti purchased Sunland, which continued to grow and prosper under her ownership. Patti was a wonderful Mother who was blessed with six children, Jeffery Lutz, Debbi Roberts, Mike Nelson, Eric Nelson, Cari Barlow and husband,Ross, Danielle Ramirez and husband, Randy. She loved being a Grandma to her 16 beautiful grandchildren, Drew, Amanda, Hailey, Nick, Alexis, David, Elizabeth, Savanna, Zachary, Jarod, Jesse, Patrick, Alyssa, Myranda, Nathan, and Hannah. MENDEZ -- Moira Felice Mendez June 19, 1980 to October 24, 2006 Full of life and love, Moira was an inspiration to all who knew her. MILLER -- Richard "Dick" Miller, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Miller; daughters, Kathryn Miller of Leavenworth, KS and Dorothy Miller of Seattle, WA; sister, Judy Vokac of Deerborn, MI; and sister-in-law, Fran Miller of Woodland Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by son, Michael Miller in 1973. After his retirement as a claims manager, Dick did volunteer work through AARP, filing income tax returns for seniors. Dick and Joyce traveled extensively. He was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. MITCHELL -- Marcella L. Mitchell died Friday October 27, 2006. She was born in Berne, Indiana on September 15, 1913 to Levi and Lillie Huser. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1958. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dale R. Mitchell. She is survived by her son, John L. Cully (Kathy) of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Deborah Algier (Ron) of Coppell, TX, John P. Cully (Jamie) of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kristin and Kathy Algier of Coppell, TX. and Kelsey, Noah and John Dylan Cully of Las Cruces, NM. NEEDHAM -- Martha Roberta Needham, Albuquerque resident since 1953, departed on the morning of Saturday, October 28, 2006. Born to Martha Iona (Harris) and James Goff, Sr., on March 23, 1921, in Dallas, TX, she was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in 1975; her parents; brothers, Paul, James Jr. and George; and sister, Virginia. She was an active member of both Fruit Avenue Baptist Church and Hoffmantown Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, Girls' Auxiliary Leader, choir member, and youth leader. Owner of Bo's Antiques for many years, she was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Pete Sampras, and enjoyed solving the daily crossword puzzle, as well as Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. SILVA -- Paul A. Silva, age 81 and a resident of Albuquerque of 55 years, died on Monday October 30, 2006 following an illness. Mr. Silva is survived by his wife, Gloria Q. Silva; three daughters: Gloria Jean Valdez and husband, Alfredo, Anna Sanchez, and Tammy Jaramillo and husband, James, all of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Alana Sanchez, Jamesha Jaramillo, and Grayson Jaramillo. Mr. Silva was the youngest and last of 15 children born to Alex and Presillianna Silva. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, and retired from Sandia National Labs in 1981 after 36 years. WATSON -- Mary Louise Watson, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006. Mary was born December 16, 1921 the daughter of Clifford and Maude Haycraft Franklin in Peonia, KY. She had been a hotel manager before retiring. She loved to sew, cook, and work in her garden. Mary also was fond of horses, flowers, and birds. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold in 1987; one daughter, Martina McDaniel in 2003; and her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lang and husband Wilfred of Corrales; one brother, Vanley Franklin of Kentucky; two sisters, Estela Smith and Fannie Hayse, both of Kentucky; son-in-law, David McDaniel of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the Service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln, Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pete Van Dyke, Latham Leinheiser, Stefan D. Klimaj, and Pete Van Patten. It has been suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's; Association, New Mexico Chapter, 9500 Montgomery Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
