GARCIA -- Daniel Daniel Gerald Garcia Jr. August 11, 2003 to April 28, 2006 Lonely is the home without you, Life to us is not the same; All the world would be like heaven, If we could have you back again A light is from our household gone, A voice we loved is still, A place is vacant in our home, That never can be filled. May the God of Love and Mercy, Care our loved one who is gone, And bless with consolation, those left to carry on. The happy hours we once enjoyed, How sweet their memory still, But death has left a vacant place, This world can never fill. How dearly we loved you, And prayed you might live, But Jesus just beckoned, And we had to give. God gave us strength to bear it, And courage to fight the blow, What it has meant to lose you, God alone will ever know. Happy Birthday Buddy. We Love and Miss You. Your Family

HUGHES -- Ruby Mae Hughes peacefully passed away at her home in Albuquerque early Tuesday morning, August 8, 2006. Her passing came after she suffered a massive heart attack and stroke simultaneously - which was just like Ruby to multi-task until the very end. After a brief stay at Lovelace hospital, Ruby's daughter, Diane Dimond of Rockland County, NY, her granddaughter, Jenna Lamond of Brooklyn, NY, and her loved and loyal niece, Sandy Hays of Albuquerque, took her home. There, along with her devoted dog, Chivas at her side, Ruby spent her final days precisely as she had wanted. Born in North Dakota on November 29, 1929, Ruby arrived just as the Great Depression took hold in America. Her father was a farmer and Ruby was the youngest of six children. Always with a joyous gleam of adventure in her eye, young Ruby attended church regularly, earned pocket money picking beets and potatoes, and, even though she was only five foot three inches tall, she was a dynamo on her school basketball team. She married Allen O. Hughes on December 23, 1947, and soon after they moved to California to seek their fortune. After stints working in the airline and defense industries, they decided to move to Albuquerque with their only child, Diane in 1959. They ultimately opened Hughes Meat Company which operated for 30 years. In business, she and her husband were known for their hard work, their integrity and their charity to those who could not afford their products. Ruby was known as the "Energizer Bunny" by those who knew her best. Her multitude of friends and family members will always remember her energy, her love of a good joke and her fun-loving, "get 'er done" spirit. Ruby and her husband Allen loved animals and enjoyed working in the yard of their home, especially in their breathtaking backyard rose garden. She played a mean game of pool, was highly competitive when it came to card games, and never met a party she didn't like. When no one else caught a fish on their numerous fishing trips - from Alaska to Mexico - Ruby did! As long-time members of the Fleet Reserve Club they actively participated in veteran celebrations and Thanksgiving and Christmas charity donation drives. She was a long-time contributor to New Mexico's Boys Town and Joy Junction. Ruby was most proud of her daughter Diane's successful career in journalism as well as her only granddaughter, Jenna, and her three beautiful great-grandchildren: Ruby Jr., 7, Luke, 5, and Owen, six months, who met his great-grandmother last week during her hospitalization. Ruby had a life-long love of watching sports. Thanks to her devoted and much loved niece, Terry Case of Dallas, TX, Ruby acquired real life bragging rights. Terry's son Bryan Clampitt is a back-up quarterback on UNM's Lobos football team and Ruby reveled in every game. She was also a dedicated Lady Lobos basketball fan due to her own illustrious high school prowess. Ruby Hughes was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Allen, her loving brother, Ralph, and her equally captivating sisters, Wilma and Isabel. She is survived by her dear sister, Roberta Stafford of Newark, DE, who recently came to Albuquerque for a "catch up" visit. She will be fondly remembered by nieces, Debbie Hays and Meredith Clampitt; nephew, Steve Hays; and numerous family members and friends. Ruby will always be fondly remembered as a vivacious and loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Her adored dog, Chivas and stand-offish cat, Bubba would be pleased if any donations went to the Animal Humane Society, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. JOJOLA -- Tony Patrick Lay down my dear Brother, lay down and take your rest I want to lay your head upon your Savior's breast I love you, but Jesus loves you best I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight. Bahamian Gospel (sung best by Aaron Neville) Tony left this earth shortly after midnight, Friday, August 4, 2006, at the University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ, where he was being evaluated for heart transplantation surgery. Always quick to smile, laugh and share his incredible wisdom and easy personality, and always, with his eyes twinkling, he practiced his dazzling charm on the doctors, nurses, technicians and aides providing his care at the UMC and Presbyterian Hospital until his heart could beat no longer. His family is extremely grateful for the excellent care Tony received, including AirCare which flew him to Tucson. Born on October 9, 1951, at the old Albuquerque Indian Hospital, to Peggy B. and Juan Antonio Jojola (late), Tony grew up in Albuquerque, graduating from Manzano High School in 1970. Tony described himself as one-half Isleta Indian and one-half east Texas/Louisiana cowboy and was deeply proud, knowledgeable and influenced by his diverse background. Tony earned his Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees from the University of New Mexico and had been pursuing graduate studies in special education until his health began deteriorating in 2005. Tony was employed by the Albuquerque Public Schools at Taylor Middle School, but it was in 1975, in his position as Indian Home School Liaison/Indian Education Department, where his life made its most significant turn. Tony came into the Counseling Office at Albuquerque High School where he recognized April, from their UNM days, a young, red-haired woman working there. April and Tony celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on July 21st. Tony had an incredible ability to engage anyone with whom he shared a conversation. Extremely quick on his toes, a sharp wit, Tony was a forgiving, calm and contented man. He had peace and that allowed him to be fully present and focused in the now. He was also a humble man; never needing to prove himself. Tony knew where he belonged in God's universe and he knew he was deeply loved. More than anything on earth, Tony loved April and his beautiful children, Cole and Brynne. He wanted to see Cole receive his Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts this December and then pursue his passion for art. Tony knew that Brynne could accomplish whatever she wanted, and if that was being President of the United States, well, "she could do it." Tony's family knows that his spirit is still with them, watching, guiding and protecting them. His family is strong, well-grounded and will learn and grow from this, always cherishing his essence. They thank God for Tony and thank his mother, Peggy, for raising such a wonderful man; a husband and father they will hold forever in their hearts. Tony is survived by his wife, April; children, Cole and Brynne; and by his special sister-in-law, Valerie Bargas. Also surviving him: his mother, Peggy; brother, Jon and sister, Teri; mother-in-law, Frances Bargas; Marie Ashby; Roger and Cathy Bargas; nieces and nephews: Miki, Jacqi, Danyelle, Spencer, Ryan, and Natasha; and all his aunts, uncles, and cousins originating from Isleta and Texas/Louisiana. A celebration of Tony's life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 3:00 p.m., at one of his favorite places, the Ladera Golf Course, Notah Begay Room. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to New Mexico Donor Services, or the American Heart Association. Tony was an organ donor and his family encourages others to do the same by making your wishes known on your NM driver licenses. Tony, I love you, but Jesus loves you best I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.
