ENDEAN -- Willis Endean, age 85, died peacefully at his home on May 31, 2006 with his loving family present. Willis was born in Port Huron, MI on August 9, 1920. He married Janet Miers on June 1, 1941 in Kahoka, MO. In 1947 they moved to Albuquerque from Bellwood, IL where Willis took a job as a gas pipefitter. In 1959 he completed construction of the current family home in the Hyder Park Neighborhood. In 1965 he purchased Jay Grear, Inc. and formed Endean Brothers Plastics with his brother, William Endean Jr., and became the first "Plastics" distributor in New Mexico. Upon his retirement in 1985, he transferred the family business to his daughter, Anita, who now owns the Endean Sign Company. One of his other accomplishments is he helped organize the construction of the first Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1950s. Willis was a kind, mild tempered, gentle man who had many passions in life; his Christian faith, reading, tennis, golf, sailing, computer surfing, genealogy, model sailboats, his children, and mostly, his wife of 65 years, Janet. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Anne Hardwick Willis and William Endean Sr.; his brother, John Fredrick Endean; and his only son, David Willis Endean. He is survived by Janet, his wife; his brother, William Jr.; daughters, Leslie Endean Singh and husband, Dr. Jagdev Singh, Laurie Stanton Theiler and husband, Jim Theiler, Elisabeth Endean and husband, Terry Booze, Anita Endean, Rachelle Endean and husband, Greg Hawrylyshyn. Willis was also blessed with his grandchildren: Jesse William, Tammy, Lindsay, Carrie, Elena, Lisa, Sofya; and great-grandaughter, Alexiss. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday June 10, 2006 at the residence of Anita Endean, 340 Milagro Lane SW, Albuquerque 87105. His love will live on through his friends, colleagues, and family.

FISHER -- Kenneth R. "Kenny" Fisher, age 44, of Rio Rancho, left us suddenly, Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Kenny was a 1979 graduate of El Dorado High School. In 1978, he met the love of his life, Susan. They married May 15, 1982. He became an apprentice electrician in 1981 and was a loyal brother and member of the Local IBEW #611. His wife and children were his very life. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, son, and friend who was highly involved in his children's lives. Kenny spent endless hours rebuilding and babying his 1967 cherry red Mustang which was given to him by his father. He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Pam; son, Troy; father, Fred and his wife, Mary Angelyn; sister, Debbie Surdan and her husband, Bob; brother, Harry and his wife, Lisa; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie and his mother, Alice. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 5, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary Westside Chapel, cremation will follow. GARCIA -- Claudio B. Garcia, born April 7, 1935, passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 31, 2006. He was a longtime resident of Grants, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Garcia; father, Frank Garcia; and sister, Sandra Martinez. He is survived by his mother, Veneranda Garcia of Portales; sons, Eugene Garcia of Grants, Clyde and wife, Trish Garcia of Grants, Jay and wife, Rosa Garcia of Albuquerque; daughters, Becky and husband, Charles Chavez of Rio Rancho, Geraldine and husband, Steve Gonzales of Leadville, CO; grandchildren, Bryan, Brittany, Kara, Aaron, Patrick, Alyssa, Sydney, and Nathan; brothers, Patricio, Ernest, Jimmy, Frankie, Steve, Simon, and Joseph; sisters, Sally, Maybelle, Stella, and Lillian. GUTIERREZ -- Conrad F. Gutierrez, 63, born on June 7, 1942, entered into the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrado and Lucy Gutierrez. Conrad is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Gutierrez; sons, Derek and wife, Carolyn, Dominic and wife, Crystle, Damian and wife, Kristi; grandchildren, Danielle, Joey, Alanna; great-grandchild, Catalina; brother, Coy and wife, Tillie; sisters, Ruth and Jenny; mother-in-law, Agneda Lucero; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was raised in Los Alamos and was a graduate of the Menaul School in 1960. Conrad enjoyed golfing and home improvement projects, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Hart Park, the Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE. HINDI-GREEN -- Monira Hindi-Green, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006. Monira was born in Duran, NM to William and Rasmie Hindi on May 29, 1928. She was preceded in death by her three children, Mary Elizabeth, Melheim, and Norbert; her husband, John; her parents; and her brother, Basheer Hindi. Monira is survived by her brothers, Moneer, Baheej, Azeez, Shawkeet, and Ficel; two sisters, Fareeza Belcher and Lila Hindi; sister-in-law, Jody Hindi; her faithful companion, Oreo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. She retired from the U. S. Postal Service, many years at the bulk mail center in Denver and then here in Albuquerque. She was a volunteer at the Bear Canyon Senior Center, at Kaseman Hospital and at the Women's Hospital. After her college graduation she taught elementary school at Bernalillo and Our Lady of Fatima. Monira's husband was a Chief Master Sgt. and the family was stationed in Germany, Denver, Atlanta, and Albuquerque; she enjoyed living in all these cities. She enjoyed passing the time at the casino and lunching with her friends and family. Monira had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed. HUNTON -- Jackie Darryl Dodson Hunton, born September 7, 1950 in Sweetwater, TX, lost her battle with cancer in her northeast Albuquerque home in the early morning of May 30, 2006. Jackie is survived by her husband of 27 years, J. Alan Hunton; sons, Christopher Allen Fredrickson and Paul Michael Hunton of Albuquerque; mother, Mona Dodson of Hobbs, siblings; Jimmy Dodson and wife, Jacquee' of Hobbs, Leah Love and husband, Bob of Hobbs, Terry Dodson of Odessa, TX, and Treva Foster and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; best friend, Karla Schlie of Albuquerque. Her pets include cats: Rusty, Dusty, Baby, Scruffy, Tux, Mr. P, Easel, Momma Kitty, Sara, and Betsy; and dogs, Kelsey and Duchess. Below is an article written for the "Blue Ribbon", an Albuquerque Rose Society publication: I was given the honor to write about two important people in my life. They both are what I imagine my husband and I being at their age. Vibrant, energetic, steady, dependable, and absolutely irreplaceable. Of course, we all know them, Alan and Jackie Hunton. Alan and Jackie were married in Hobbs September 2, 1978. They raised two boys, Chris and Paul. They are both active in their church, Asbury United Methodist, where Jackie taught bible study for 3 and 4 year olds. They joined the rose society around 1988. Their first show was a State Fair show. Kreg Hill remembers them coming in with roses, not knowing what to do. The Troyers, Stones, Bill Christensen and Kreg Hill helped them enter their roses. They won best open hybrid tea with Peace, among other awards. A classic statement of theirs "We won't have anything blooming for the next show." Is legendary amongst us exhibitors. Of course, they usually then go on to win most of the awards. They have consistently helped newcomers enter their roses, and make us all chuckle with their gentle banter in the prep room. They have been steady helpers in setting up the shows and helping take down for years, as well as exhibiting in every show. Jackie and Alan were instrumental in getting the Albuquerque Rose Garden redesigned in 1995. "Those of us who go way back will never forget the tremendous contributions of Alan and Jackie to the realization of our beautiful new garden, the maintenance of the garden, and all the work of the society" added Leah Watterberg. "Jackie and Alan have worked extremely hard to make the garden what it is today," Karen Cordova commented. Alan was president of the society at that time. He wrote letters, made phone calls, and met with city officials to make his dream a reality. "Alan was the driving force for the garden to be redone" Jackie told me. They both organized the planting of the garden, and Pat Stone recalls that Saturday. "Each rose had to go to its designated spot. All went according to plan. Jackie was heard to say many times 'Isn't this fuunn, kids?' Yes, it was fun, and we do have an absolutely beautiful garden. Jackie and Alan led the way." Today, they talk of the roses in the garden as if they were children they have raised. Jackie and Alan have also been the garden committee chairpersons for the last several years. Both of them have organized the workers, and made sure the pruning demonstrations go off without problems. Claudia Bonnett remembered last year. "Last year at our pruning demonstration, we had some bad weather. On one of those ugly mornings as we hoped for the clouds to lift and the sun to peak through, I asked Jackie if she thought the sun would come out. She very positively replied that it would, because she and several of the other ladies in our group had worn their bright yellow underwear. She assured me that wearing bright yellow underwear would guarantee a sunny day. Sure enough before the day was over, the sun was shining brightly. I haven't forgotten that little tidbit and this year at the pruning, everyone should wear bright yellow underwear." They also keep care of the wild cats that have made the garden their home. "Once, Jackie went to feed the cats, she opened the shed for food, and a homeless man jumped out!" Ginny Troyer said. Jackie and Alan also organized the weekly deadheading "parties". Siri Amrit Kaur recalled her first time to a deadheading. "I somehow had it in my head that it would be full of high-society ladies with perfect manicures, holding parasols and sipping tea. When I expressed that to Jackie she just laughed her wonderful laugh and showed me her hands. She said the Albuquerque Rose Society was full of real gardeners who liked to get their hands in the dirt. She immediately put me at ease." Fundraising for the garden has also been a passion of Jackie's, supported wholeheartedly by Alan. She organized volunteers to help her with the sales table during pruning demonstrations. The best hangout is the table, to hear the stories and jokes that Jackie has in plenty. The Hunton home has been the home for the last several years of the society's rose sales. Jackie and Alan took orders, talked unsuspecting members into buying more than planned, submitted the orders, and then organized the roses once they came in. Jackie and her team would show members to their preordered box, and then tell you stories of roses, like Sweet Revenge, knowing you couldn't resist having one with such a fabulous colorful history. With a well placed, "Isn't she just lovely?" or "Isn't she just to die for?" Jackie met her goal "Order 2, leave with 4, order 6, leave with 12, etc." Alan was president during our hosting of the American Rose Society's National Convention in 1998. As a financial wizard, Alan was able to keep our society in the black, which is a huge undertaking. "Alan was indispensable when it came to Albuquerque hosting the ARS convention several years ago. He was president, IIRC, and his accounting skills made us one of the few local Rose Societies to stay in the black after hosting one of those huge conventions. And, with all that pressure, I never heard him utter a cross word." Siri Amrit Kaur Khalsa recalled. Jackie and Alan have been the unofficial greeters at Rose Society events as well. Each newcomer is met by one of them. Debbie Butcher said "For me, one of the most impressive things about Jackie is that she remembers people's names. She introduces newcomers as if they were old friends. She remembers things about each person to share, helping us to quickly get to know each other." "I went to that first meeting two and a half years ago, feeling like most newcomers, a little anxious and uncomfortable. Jackie came up to me and gave me a warm and friendly greeting and sort of gave me an idea of the evening's agenda. For this, I thank her." Sylvia Goff remembers. Two years ago, members of the society went on Jackie's trip "Tyler or Bust". We drove to Tyler, Texas on a Thursday. We all stayed in the same hotel, ate together, and of course, went rose shopping. We woke up bright and early to go to our rose emporium, Chamblee's. We were treated to a grand tour and showed many roses that were not available to the general public, but "something can be arranged" if we couldn't live without some. We also toured the Tyler Rose Garden, sniffed and enjoyed a hot muggy day. The next day, we headed off to Chamblee's again, in the rain, to purchase what our fellow members had purchased the day before. Jackie had looked many roses up in one of the several rose books we had, and said "I just have to get this one. Listen to this. Lady Hillingdon. She's no good in bed, but great against a wall." Then we found the David Austin Nursery. Jo VanBurgen, an Albuquerque native, manages the nursery, and let us loose in the test garden, as well as the greenhouse. We were able to examine new unnamed Austins. Jody Ifversen introduced everyone to Jude the Obscure, and Scepter d' Isle. So, off we went again to our steady friend, Chamblee's. Tim Moss and Jackie raced to the Jude the 'Not so' Obscure, as we like to call it now, to find the best one gallon plant. I think Jackie won that one, while her loving husband rolled with laughter. After sneaking in some antiquing, we dined in a fabulous restaurant, called the Potpouri House, where another native Albuquerquean treated us all to dessert. The next day we snuck in a trip to Shreveport, to the ARS home garden. The following morning, we all packed our cars with newspaper protected roses, and headed west for home. Jackie and Alan have made the society a wonderfully fun club to belong to. They have made their garden at home an inspiration to several members through the years. Pat Jeremia. I consider myself much blessed to have the influence of these two wonderful people; Alan, with his quiet dignity and solid faith in hard work, and Jackie with her boundless optimism and joy for life. KARGES -- Herbert George Karges, 98, of Castle Rock, CO, a native of Fargo, ND, peacefully passed away on May 24, 2006. Celebration of his life took place at the First United Methodist Church in Castle Rock on Monday, May 29, 2006. Herb was the beloved husband of the late Grace I. Karges, formerly of Bismarck, ND. Herb and Grace were married 73 years. He was the loving father of Robert Karges of Colorado Springs, CO and Thomas Karges of Castle Rock. Proud Grandfather of Natasha Karges, Englewood, CO; Chad Karges, Burns, OR; Kip Karges, Chester, SD; Brock Karges, Purcell, OK; and Travis Linn, Brookings, SD. Dear brother of the late William Karges and Margaret Jacobs, both of Fargo, ND. Herbert had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. As a young man, Herbert was a canoeist, raised American Water Spaniels and helped his father build their lake cottage on Little Floyd Lake in Detroit Lakes, MN. He continued to be an avid sportsman, fisherman, and hunter throughout his long life. He graduated in 1931 from North Dakota State University in Civil Engineering and spent his career in the aviation industry constructing U.S.A. airports. He retired in 1973 from the Federal Aviation Administration in Ft. Worth, TX. Prior to moving to Castle Rock in 1992, the couple lived in Albuquerque, NM where Herb was a member of the New Mexico Senior Olympic Swim Team. He placed third in 50 meters freestyle at the National Senior Olympic Games in Buffalo, NY. Herb also was an avid Cribbage and Bridge player and an active volunteer for his church and Mended Hearts. Some of the places that Herb and Grace traveled to during their retirement were China, the Middle East and the Holy Land, Europe and Alaska. LOVATO -- RITA S. Dr. Rita S. Lovato, 67, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Martine Lovato of the Santo Domingo Pueblo. Originally from New York, she is survived by her sister, Barbara Levine of New York; brother, Barry Levine of Washington D.C., and his children, Adam, Kiera, Surell, Lindsay, and Daniel. Rita was the owner of Silver Hills, a prominent wholesale American Indian jewelry company featuring handmade jewelry with emphasis on the Santo Domingo Pueblo. Rita was a Fulbright Fellow and an award recipient from the National Endowment for the Arts. She was a member of several museum foundations and a regular donor to Native American jewelry exhibitions across the world. Rita was also the founder and director of the Museum of Native American Jewelry. A lecturer, professor, collector, and artist, her influence in Native American jewelry will carry on for generations to come, and she will be remembered as "one of the most knowledgeable and articulate spokespeople on the subject of American Indian jewelry." MASCARENAS -- Beatrice C. Mascarenas, 55, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Thursday, June 1, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Mascarenas; parents, Juan and Mary Vigil; brothers, Joe Vigil and wife, Carmen, Paul Vigil and wife, Margaret and John Vigil and wife, Wanda, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Theresa Pena and husband, David of Springer, NM, Elizabeth Holt and husband, Roy of Clovis, NM; father-in-law, Alfonso Mascarenas; sisters-in-law, Juanita Mascarenas, Carmen Mascarenas, and Connie Mascarenas, all of Albuquerque; niece and God-daughter, Denise Maldonado; and many other dear nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mascarenas worked at Desert Ridge Middle School. She also worked at the UNM Center for Disabilities and the College of Nursing. She was a parishioner at Risen Savior Catholic Community. OTERO -- Lorenzo S. Otero, 87, went home to be with his Ta Ta Dios and his loving wife, Ida, June 1, 2006. He was born on October 13, 1918 in El Cerro and was a life-long resident of Albuquerque, NM. He worked as a roofer for 45 years and began what is now Otero and Sons Roofing. He is survived by his sons, Raymond Otero and wife, Monica, Charles Otero and wife, Debbie, Lawrence Otero and wife, Gloria, and Lee Otero; daughters, Phyllis Otero Armijo, Lucille Otero Montano, Peggy Otero Lopez and her husband, Gavino, and Ann Otero Hager and husband, John; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Lorenzo was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Otero Griego; and parents, Sotero Otero and Felicita Sedillo Otero. PERCIFIELD -- Frances L. Percifield, 93, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Lt. Col. James D. Percifield on November 1, 2003. SAUERMAN -- Christa Lee Sauerman, 26 of Alameda, CA, died Sunday evening, May 28, 2006 in a motor vehicle accident in Las Cruces, NM. She was the wife of Bryan Sauerman and the daughter of Marlan Ball and Rachel Archer of Albuquerque, NM. Christa attended Kraybill Mennonite School in Mount Joy, PA until sixth grade, when she moved with her parents to Albuquerque. She graduated from Highland High School and was employed by State Farm Insurance. In March 2006, she married and transferred to Alameda where her husband is stationed in the Coast Guard. Christa is survived by her husband; her parents; her paternal grandfather, Virgil Ball of Pickford, MI; and her maternal grandparents, Jay and Anita Wolgemuth of Mount Joy, PA. A viewing will begin on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the French Mortuary Chapel on Wyoming Boulevard, with Service to follow at 11:00. Christa will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, for which Christa volunteered as an advocate. VALDEZ -- Lucio "Val" Valdez Jr. a resident of Albuquerque for the past two years, formerly of Gallup passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2006. He was survived by his loving wife Roslyn B. Valdez of Albuquerque; daughter, Rosemary Rueckhaus of Albuquerque; sons, Thomas E. Valdez and wife, Cheryl of Albuquerque, Gerald L. Valdez and wife, Charlotte of Gallup, Martin J. Valdez and wife, Roberta of Albuquerque, and Andre E. Valdez; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Lucio served as a board member of the R.M.C.H. for 9 years, he also was a member of the Elks Lodge #1440, the VFW, the F.O.P., and The American Legion. Lucio was the district manager for American National Insurance for 30 years. A Memorial Service for Lucio will be held Monday, June 5, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald & Son Chapel with inurnment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. ZAMORA -- Pete A. Zamora, 87, passed away May 30, 2006. Formerly from Socorro, NM was born in Kelly, NM June 18, 1918. Mr. Zamora served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division from 1942 to 1946 Southwest Pacific Arena during WWII and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign and the Philippine Liberation. After 37 years of service he retired from Kirkland Air Force Base as a Security Guard and was a life member of V.F.W Post 401. He is survived by his wife, Juanita; daughter, Mary Ann Romero and husband, Rudy; granddaughter, Yvonne Dion and husband, Eric; two great-grandchildren, Van and Ella; grandson, Christopher Romero and fiancee, Amber. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was very dedicated to his family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006. Interment will follow the Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
