ANDERS -- Derek Ryan Anders came into this world on October 22, 1981 and left us on May 14, 2006. He was born in Albuquerque, NM and lived there for much of his life. He also lived in Denver, CO, Reno, NV, and most recently in Seattle, WA, which was the place of his death. Derek is survived by his mother, Susan Brown of Bellevue, WA; his father, Greg Anders of Reno, NV; his sisters, Julia Anders of Santa Fe, NM and Miriam Matthes of Bornheim, Germany; his grandmother, Dolores Pietrzak of Albuquerque, NM; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. BACA -- Daniel L. Baca, born September 22, 1959, passed peacefully with his beloved wife, Diane at his side on May 12, 2006 at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, CA. He is survived by his wife of nearly twenty years, Diane Hart Baca; father, Seff Baca of Albuquerque, NM; mother and stepfather, Norma and Al Telcocci of Denver, CO. Other survivors include his brother, David Baca of Madrid, NM; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Allen Walters of Denver, CO; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Anthony Benenati of Los Angeles, CA; as well as nieces, Erica Walters and Anabella Benenati; nephews, Jason Walters, Joe Linfesty, Jordan Baca, and Matteo Benenati; and his dearly loved grandmother, Olga Torres Stark, of Denver, CO. Dan was born in Albuquerque, NM and graduated from Valley High School in 1977. He knew from an early age he wanted to work in the aerospace/computer field. Dan put himself through the University of Texas at Austin by working as a co-op student for Intel. He graduated in 1984 with a degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science. With his interest and knowledge in computers, he accepted a job upon graduation with Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, CA. Dan and Diane met at the University of Texas, where they were next door neighbors. After graduating, they set out for California together. Dan and Diane were married on August 24, 1986, eventually making their home in Pleasanton, CA. Dan spent 7 years at Lockheed, 7 years at Silicon Graphics, and 3 years at ETrade. He was employed at Earthlink at the time of his passing. Dan was a warm and caring person, working in what can be a hard-edged industry. He never lost his focus on what was truly important to him - loving family, dear friends, and good health. His warm smile, genuine kindness, and gentle ways will be missed by many. A Memorial Service for Dan will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2006 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, 1801 LaCassie Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA. BENAVIDEZ -- Margaret Benavidez, age 58, a resident of Casa Colorada, NM, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 after fighting cancer for two and a half years. For 21 years she was the postmaster in Bosque, NM, where she loved her customers and her work. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Antonio Jose Benavidez, Sr.; her children, Michael Ramirez, Felicia Herold, Antonio Benavidez, Jr., and Joyce Benavidez; nine grandchildren; her mother, Felicitas Lucero; her brothers and sisters, Phil Lucero, Leonard Lucero, Deluvina Lopez, Raymond Lucero, Lillian Lucero, Delora Cordova, Leroy Lucero, Gabriel Lucero, and Debra Lucero. With love in your heart, you always had time to be there for us in whatever we needed. These wonderful memories will endure in us forever. Thank you Margaret, We love you so much. BIGGS -- Marianne Biggs, 86, died on May 17, 2006 in Albuquerque. She was born on October 11, 1919 in Weston, WV. She lived most of her life in Pueblo, CO, attending Thatcher Elementary School and Centennial High School. She worked as a telephone operator until the dial system was implemented and later became a Realtor. Marianne and her husband Frank moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1980 to help care for her grandson. Marianne Ryan married Frank Biggs on September 8, 1939 in Pueblo, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Frank preceded Marianne in death on January 19, 2002. Marianne is survived by three children and five grandchildren. Her son, Stanley, lives in Storrs, CT with his wife, Patricia. They have two sons, Christopher and Kerry, both of whom live in Connecticut with their wives, Kerry and Tanya. Her son, Robert, lives in Lone Tree, CO with his wife, Beth. They have two sons, Kyle and Nathan, both living in Colorado. Her daughter, Kimberley Pierce, lives in Albuquerque with her husband, Ed and son, Robbie Biggs. Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Service. BOYD -- Darci Boyd went Home April 29, 2006 due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis. She is survived by her husband, George; four children: Krissie, Heather, Joel, and Ryan; nine grandchildren; her mother, Dru; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Grace; and two nephews. Darci was a beloved teacher in the Edgewood area. She also directed and taught in the area Bible Clubs. Her greatest passion and joy was sharing the love of Jesus with children. CHAVEZ -- Nichole Monique Chavez May 14, 1981 - May 14, 2006 Our Lord called his "angel" home on her 25th birthday, Sunday, May 14, 2006, after being treated for a sudden illness at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Nichole received her Associate's Degree in April, and was to begin completion of her Pre-med studies at UNM this fall. She was employed by T-Mobile, and was a very accomplished singer, songwriter, and musician both in English and Spanish. She had planned to be married in August of this year. Nichole was an incredibly bright and beautiful spirit who was liked by those who met her, and loved by all who knew her; she was an extremely great loss to all of us, and will be greatly missed. COOPER -- Vera C. Cooper, 74, passed away peacefully on May Sunday 7, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on July 20, 1931 to Thomas and Mary (Harrell) Smith in Mankins, TX. Vera was a loving wife and mother to her three children and her two grandchildren, her love will never die, but she will always be remembered for her open and loving arms. Her greatest joys in life were her granddaughters. Vera is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert; her children, Randy Cooper and wife, Sheryl of Bloomfield, NM and Robert Lee Cooper of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters; Randi Cooper of Farmington, NM and Korrie Cooper of Las Cruces, NM; her brother, Alvin W. DAVIDSON -- Sue Catherine Williams Davidson, born April 12, 1912, in Carlsbad, NM, died in Albuquerque, NM, May 12, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 68 years, Roy Wilson Davidson; her parents, George and Josie Williams; brother, Mike Williams; and sister, Martha Atkinson. Her sister, Josephine McCoy of Las Cruces; children, Dorothy Sue Groth and husband, Eddie of Las Cruces, Mary Louise Overpeck of Santa Fe, John Philip Davidson of Raton, and Judy Carol Jones and husband, Larry of Tijeras, NM, survive her. Sue Catherine is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Patty Ann Groth of Lake Havasu, AZ; David Edward Groth and wife, Lori of Albuquerque; Valerie Sue Pickett and husband, Mark of Las Cruces; Charles Davidson Overpeck of Herndon, VA; George Gentry Overpeck of Homer, AK; Dorothy Sue Sirrine and husband, Rob of Santa Cruz, CA; Joshua Quinn Davidson and Paige Anne Davidson of Denver, CO. Sue Catherine also has four beautiful great-grandchildren: Lauren and Connor Groth, and Wyatt and Whelan Sirrine. Sue Catherine was proud of the fact that she was born on the same day that New Mexico became a state. She was the fourth and youngest child of George Michael and Josephine Witt Williams: her father a rancher and her mother a teacher in Eddy County. Her parents had lived in the area since early 1890. Many happy times were spent fishing and picnicking on the Pecos River at the foot of Dagger Draw and around Lake McMillan. Frequent horseback treks were taken to Lakewood across McMillan Dam for refreshments, chewing gum, and soda pop. Sue Catherine graduated from Carlsbad High in 1929 during the Depression and was President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. She then attended National Business College in Abilene, TX. On her return from Texas, she became a legal secretary for Caswell S. Neal, attorney, who later became Judge of the 5th Judicial District. In 1934 she took a year's leave to work in Santa Fe for the Superintendent of Public Instruction, who was her cousin, Georgia Lusk. On February 21, 1937, Sue and Roy were married in the First Methodist Church in Carlsbad. They eventually moved to Albuquerque where Roy worked for the Internal Revenue Service. On January 1, 1945, just as World War II was winding down, they moved to Raton. Sue was a member of the First Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school. She was active in PEO, Hesperian, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Rainbow, and all school events in which her children participated. In 1971, Roy and Sue moved to Santa Fe while he served four years as Banking Commissioner under the Bruce King administration. Sue was involved in many social activities at the Governor's mansion with Alice King. The next 12 years were spent back in Albuquerque after which they returned to Raton when Roy retired. In 2002, Sue and Roy returned to Albuquerque to live in a retirement community. Sue Catherine's interests have been painting, gardening, sewing, and singing. Her paintings have won recognition as well as being featured recently in a one-woman show. She was always proud of her family, and was willing to tell anyone their exploits and achievements. She will be fondly remembered for the roles she so willingly and gracefully filled as homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. HARTLEY -- James A. Hartley, 89, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his son, Douglas Hartley, and wife, Cynde; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hartley. James was born January 27, 1917, in York, PA, to James A. and Sarah Douglas Hartley. He had a passion for planes which allowed him to make a career working for the United States Air Force. He was an air craft inspector for "Air Force One" from 1968 to 1980. After retirement James remained active in aviation as a docent for the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. In 1981, James and his wife moved to Albuquerque where he became a docent at the New Mexico Natural History Museum. HOOTON -- Jacque W. Hooton, 78, lost the battle with breast cancer February 21, 2006, Jacque attended Southern Baptist College in Pocahontas, AR, during which time she met and married Hillman Hooton. In early 1953, they moved to New Mexico. Jacque attended the College of St. Joseph, and the University of New Mexico, earning Bachelor's, Master's, and Educational Specialist Degrees. She worked in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 31 years as a teacher, counselor, administrative coordinator, and principal, retiring in 1991. Since then, she remained active in breeding, raising, and racing horses, her lifelong passion. She was a member of Blake Road Baptist Church since 1955, living in the South Valley for over 50 years. Contributions in her memory may be made to: Cowboys for Cancer Research, P.O. Box 202, Dona Ana, NM 88032 (benefiting breast cancer research at UNM). KEOUGH -- George E. Keough passed away at his daughter's home in Denver, CO, May 12, 2006. A longtime resident of the East Mountains, he had a distinguished career with Prudential Life Insurance Company. He is survived by his son, Daniel Keough of Corrales; and his daughter, Maureen Ames Pline of Westminster, CO. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. His wit, wisdom and love will be missed by all who new him. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Marilynn at the family cemetery.

OLIVARES -- Robert Miguel Olivares, 61, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at his home in Bernalillo, NM. He was born May 30, 1944 in Martineztown. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Pacheco and three brothers, Frank, Manuel, and Tony. He is survived by his wife, Emily; daughter, Yvette Marie Trujillo and husband, Frank; stepchildren, Tanya and husband, Robert Gutierrez and James Atencio; sister, Sandra Gutierrez and husband, Michael; brothers, Larry Pacheco and wife, Liz and Victor Pacheco and wife, Shelley of Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Valentin II, Frank Jr., Andres, Rebecca, and Vicente Trujillo, Isaiah, Amanda, Champagne and Mya; one great-grandson, Valentin III; and many nieces and nephews. PAULSEN -- John W. Paulsen, Master Sgt. (USAF Ret.), 87, died Saturday, May 13, 2006 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verla Paulsen of the family home; son, Eugene Paulsen and wife, Nikki of Minot, ND; daughter, Joan Shirley and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Kirsten, Emily, Karen, Jennifer, John, and Amanda; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Paulsen was preceded in death by his grandson, Kevin Shirley and his two sisters. He served twenty years in the United States Air Force and worked for twenty years for the United States Post Office. Mr. Paulsen never met a stranger and was known for his humor and love of people. STARKS -- VIRGIL In Loving Memory of Virgil Starks passed away on May 13, 2006 at the age of 92. Born in Anderson TX in 1913. Graduated from Corbit High, Corsicana TX in 1933. Married January 28, 1941 to Dorothy Starks. He was a proud Sgt. in the Army Air Corps in WW2. Moved to Albuquerque shortly after the war. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and two daughters, Janice Sanders and Vivian Thomas. He is survived by three sons, Bruce Starks, Cyde Wayne, Charles Maxwell; and son-in-law, David Thomas (widower). He had four grandchildren: David Thomas Jr. and wife, Yvonne, Jeff and Damien Sanders and wife, Jen, Junior and wife, Mieko. He had five great-grandchildren: Desiree and Brianna Thomas, Maddox, Braden, Jolen Sanders. To my Grandfather, I can't express how much I miss your love, compassion, and your friendship. I am proud in the man I have become and I thank you for that. TORRES -- Carlos H. Torres, 52, of Sacramento, CA died unexpectedly on May 5, 2006. He is survived by three children and two grandchildren: daughter, Jessica Bollman (husband, Randy) and grandchildren, Emily and Chase of Coal Valley, IL; daughter, Tara Maass of Omaha, NE; and Carlos Torres, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Torres was born and raised in Las Cruces, NM and lived for many years in the Albuquerque area. He was the son of the late Conrad T. Torres, Sr. and is survived by his mother, Virginia H. Torres of Bernalillo, NM. Carlos was the eldest of seven children, with four brothers and two sisters: the late Conrad Torres Jr.; Arthur Torres (wife, Rebecca) of Shutesbury, MA; Ned Torres (wife, Ruth) of Oberageri, Switzerland; Sylvia Hoffman (husband, Howard) of T or C, NM; Patricia Miller of Bernalillo; and Sean Torres (wife, Nuria) of Cornelius, NC. In addition to five loving nephews and one niece, Mr. Torres has seven surviving aunts; one uncle; and numerous cousins. YAZZIE -- Steve Yazzie, 53, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Steven Yazzie; step-daughters, Krista and Jill; mother, Joan Yazzie; grandparents, Jerry and Lucy Suazo; siblings, Jeri Lynn and her husband, Owen, Robert Yazzie and his wife, Sonja, and Debbie Yazzie; mother-in-law, Christine Yeatter; in-laws, Karen and Jimmie Lynn; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mr. Yazzie was preceded in death by his father, Monroe Yazzie. He worked at the NNSA for 32 years. Mr. Yazzie was an active volunteer for 18 years with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, serving as the 1st Native American Balloonmeister in 1999 and 2000. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel.
