BRINKLEY -- Alice McFadden Brinkley was born on September 23, 1924 in Detroit, MI and passed away on Friday, April 28, 2006 (her nephew Dan's birthday). She met and married a sergeant in the U.S. Army, Tom A. Brinkley, on March 29, 1947. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1985. She is survived by two sisters, Annie McFadden and Catherine Sumerville; brother, Bill McFadden; three sisters-in-law, Marie Bosshart and husband, Rex, Lettie Braudt, and Vay Walker; one brother-in-law, Pat Brinkley and wife, Dorothy; many nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews; she loved them all. Alice worked at Sandia National Labs for over 25 years and had a multitude of friends both in Michigan and New Mexico who are left to grieve her passing. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. CASTILLO -- Salomon Castillo Sr., age 93, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, was called home by our Heavenly Father and Savior, Tuesday, May 9, 2006, while surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louisa Castillo in 1987; and a son, Elfego Castillo. Salomon is survived by his loving children, Salomon Castillo Jr. and wife, Gloria, Samuel Castillo and wife, Kathy, David Castillo Sr. and wife, Vicky, Jimmy Castillo and wife, Polly, Polly Laws and husband, Jim, and Angie Montoya; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; many other family members and friends. Salomon will be greatly missed by his loving family. Visitations will be this evening (Wednesday) beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Exalting Jesus Fellowship Church, 436 Pennsylvania NE; where an Evening Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. tonight, with Pastor Don Gordon officiating. CATHEY -- DOROTHY L. On May 8, 2006 Dorothy L. Cathey, a life-long resident of Bossier City, LA, quietly stepped into heaven. She was temporarily living in Albuquerque. She is survived by three daughters: Karen Green and husband, Fred of Albuquerque, Kathe Newsome of Bossier City, LA and Sharon Thorn of Benton, LA. While she had numerous adventures in her 82 years, she would want to be remembered for her sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to family, friends, and others. Burial will be in Louisiana. CHAPMAN -- Bryant LaVern Chapman of Peralta passed away at home on May 7, 2006 at the age of 81. LaVern was born December 19, 1924 in Clarks, LA to T.A. and Ruby (Jones) Chapman. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He married Doris Allen in 1946. For many years LaVern was the mill operator for Duke City Lumber. He was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters; his hobbies included building, fishing, gardening, and horse racing. LaVern is survived by his wife, Doris; his daughter, Valorie Milosevich of Gold Canyon, AZ; his two granddaughters, Holly and Gemma. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and one sister. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2006 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors. FRAGAS -- Rosario (Charo) Fragas died on Monday, May 8, 2006. She is survived by her sons: Julio Alvarez and wife, Elda; Rogelio Torres and wife, Silvia; and daughters: Angela Alvarez; and Miriam Ruiz and husband, Dago. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Saida Fragas; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Charo lived most of her life in Cuba, but she lived the last 10 years in Albuquerque. She was passionate about her grandchildren and loved to cook for them always. She liked dominoes and playing cards. The Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at Reflections (Cutler and Washington NE). Life Celebration Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. GAMBLIN -- Harry Thomas Gamblin, 84, passed on May 7, 2006. Harry was born on August 7, 1921 in Paducah, KY to Fred and Catherine Gamblin. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Lee Gamblin; step-children, Rebecca McCauley and husband, John; James Scott Garrett and wife, Kimberly; step-grandchildren, Jenny McCauley, John F. GITTINGS -- Alice Bernadine Gittings was born on March 3, 1921 in Fort Worth, TX and passed away on April 2, 2006 after a short illness at Vista Care Hospice in Albuquerque, NM. Bernadine was originally from a farming family in central Texas. They moved to the San Fernando Valley in California where she met her late husband, Kent Gittings, in high school. Kent (who passed away in 2001) later became a WWII and Korean War Veteran. She traveled to be with him in post-war Germany. Later, the Air Force family was stationed in Alaska, Albuquerque, went back to Alaska and then Maine before the Gittings family finally settled for good again in Albuquerque in 1960. For many years, she enjoyed camping and fly-fishing in Colorado with her husband and two sons, Kent Jr. and Kirk. In later years she enjoyed gardening and visiting with her neighbors, Claudette Winburn and Ray Rayzak. She is survived by her two sons, Kent Gittings Jr. and his wife, Diane of Frederick, MD and Kirk Gittings and wife, Victoria Davidson of Albuquerque; her loving grandchildren, Gabriel Varela and his wife, Sara of Denver, CO, Erica Varela Gittings of Washington, DC; and granddaughter by marriage, Ashleigh Martin of Albuquerque. She will be missed by the grandchildren's mother, Frances Varela. GOMEZ-GURULE -- Cidelia Gomez-Gurule, 87, of Albuquerque and formerly of Leadville, CO, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 in an Albuquerque hospital. She was born September 4, 1918 in Rosa, NM to the late Jose Francisco Sotelo and Inesita Sanchez Sotelo. In addition to her parents, Cidelia was preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years, Epimenio Gomez; her second husband of 1 1/2 years, Phil Gurule; two sons, Charles and Melvin E. Gomez; and two daughters, Loretta May Gomez and Susan M. Stewart. Survivors include her companion of 22 years, Matias Martinez; her children, Delfino E. Gomez, Wheatridge, CO, Leroy A. Gomez and his wife, Diane of Ft. Collins, CO, Marie I. Brodie of Scottsdale, AZ, Ruby M. Danbury and Nancy E. Romero, both of Albuquerque, Thomas Gomez and his wife, Kathleen L. Gomez of Arvada, CO; a son-in-law, Terence Stewart, of New York City, NY; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Cidelia was a caring, loving, and good person throughout her life. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, and a person who cared about others. Cidelia was devoted to her family, the Catholic Church, and most of all what God wants all people to be like. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville CO. Viewing will be from 5:30 p.m. until time of Rosary at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Jay Jung, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. HAWK -- Ann R. Hawk died Monday, May 8, 2006 at age 83. She had moved to Albuquerque from Chicago in 1951 with her husband, Carl and her son, Robert. Ann retired from Sandia Labs after 23 years of service. She always thought of others before herself and, in 2002, Ann and her husband started to share their assets with many charities. Ann's favorite interest was dogs. She loved dogs. There will be no services. If you knew Ann, please spend a few moments thinking of her. She was a generous person. NETTLETON -- Michael D. Nettleton, age 61, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on May 6, 2006. Michael was born on November 11, 1944 in Quincy, IL. He was the owner and qualifying broker for Village Realty of Los Lunas. Mike graduated from Los Lunas High School, attended the University of New Mexico and the College of St. Joseph and Bellevue College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam conflict. Mike held a variety of positions during his life including manager with Foodway and Frontier Airlines. Mike has spent 18 years in Real Estate and 15 years as a broker. He was a graduate of the New Mexico Real Estate Institute, Tom Hopkins, Floyd Wickmans Courses, and a Multi Million Dollar Producer. Mike was a member of the Albuquerque Metro Board of Realtors and the Valencia County Board of Realtors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Janice Nettleton; and a sister, Susie Nettleton Askew. Mike is survived by an aunt, Florence Janney of Gainesville, GA; two sisters, Vicki J. Johnston of Ellicott City, MD and Sandra N. Herhold of Centennial, CO; a son, Michael Olsson of Virginia; and a daughter, Dr. Kelly Cromer of Nebraska; seven grandchildren; and his family at Village Realty. RUIZ -- Filberto "Squeeze" Ruiz Jr. passed away at home on May 6, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Esther Aguilar Ruiz; daughter, Barbara Morin and husband, Tom; beloved grandson, Esteban; brother, Frank Ruiz and wife, Rosemond; sisters, Odella, Mary, and Patsy; brothers-in-law, John Aguilar and his wife, Esther, Dr. Antonio Aguilar and his wife, Gert; sister-in-law, Beatrice Aguilar; dearest friends, Jack and Maggie Valencia of Las Cruces; and loyal comrade, Moe Armstrong of Cambridge, MA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Squeeze was a descendent of German-born Patrick Coleman and wife, Vicenta of Lincoln County. He was born in Dawson, NM in 1918, the eldest son of Filberto Ruiz Sr. and Virginia Coleman Ruiz and moved to Raton in 1932. His family owned and operated the City Cab & Bus Service in Raton, and his mother, Virgie, later opened the Ruiz Cafe. Squeeze enlisted in the NM National Guard and was deployed to Ireland (1941) and England (1942). He served as a commander of the 804 Tank Destroyer Battalion Unit in North Africa against Rome, fought in the liberation of Rome, and was subsequently wounded in Italy in 1944. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and in 2003, the French "Croix de Guerre." Mr. Ruiz was a Service Officer in Raton with the NM Veterans Service Commission from 1955 to 1965, at which time he was named Director and moved with his family to Santa Fe. He headed the agency for 14 years, and in that capacity, faithfully and lovingly served as the guardian for many of New Mexico's veterans. He was nominated by his fellow state directors as President of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs in 1976. Squeeze was a member and supporter of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and Military Order of the Purple of Hearts. He loved his country, was a man of integrity and honor, and never, ever forgot the price of freedom. Squeeze had an unrivaled zest for life. He was an avid sportsman, outrageous raconteur, and talented musician who provided many an enchanting evening to citizens of Northern NM and Southern Colorado as the band leader of "Squeeze Ruiz and his Latin Band." A vignette of his lively essence is captured in the novel, "Coal Camp Justice" by Professor Ricardo L. Garcia. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was adored and will be profoundly missed by his family. Visitation will be held at the Berardinelli Funeral Home on Thursday evening, May 11, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends and family honor one of the many forgotten veterans at the National Cemetery. WEBB -- Bernard L. Webb, 70, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2006 following a lengthy illness. Bernard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ann, of the family home; sons, Anthony Webb and wife, Theresa of Albuquerque, Brian L. Webb of Albuquerque; daughter, Deanna Gariss and husband, Sidney of Peralta, NM; and daughter, Kathleen Donlin and husband, Timothy of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his brother, Irvin Webb Jr. of Colora, MD; sister, Pauline Sheldon of Branson, CO; sister-in-law, Gertrude Knoll of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Nabor Pena of Gallup, NM; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews; and many close friends and neighbors. Bernard was born September 12, 1935 in Richlands, VA. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 and retired as 1st Sergeant E-8. After retiring from the Army, Bernard worked for Creamland Dairies where he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church for over 30 years. Bernard loved cooking, gardening, fishing, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, friend, and neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him.
