APODACA -- Mark Angelo Apodaca, 26, born October 7, 1979 passed away suddenly on March 17, 2006 and is now in heaven and at home with our Lord. Mark is survived by his beloved mother, Veronica Candelaria -Tafoya and husband, G. ( Phil ); by two daughters, Natasha and Sabrina; one son, Orion; a life-long love, Carleta Cambridge; one brother, Anthony Wayne Apodaca and Stephanie; grandparents, Arthur Candelaria Sr. and wife, Rachel; aunts, Rachel and husband, Joe, Geri and husband, Steve, Kathy and husband, Tommy; uncle, Arthur Candelaria Jr., and wife, Gloria; cousins, Bernadette, Michelle, Amber, Lynette, Christopher, Joshua, Jason, and their families. BAUGHN -- Edward Wade Baughn born on February 15, 1912 and resident of Albuquerque since 1970 passed away on March 18, 2006. BENDTSEN -- Harry George Bendtsen, Jr., 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1991, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006. Harry was born April 13, 1926,the son of Harry G. and Mary Petrea Gylleck Bendtsen, Sr. in Elgin, IL. He was a graduate of Elgin Academy, class of 1944. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with 179th Inf. Regt., 45th Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the European/African/Mid East Campaign (Double Award), the WWII Victory and the Army of Occupation Medals along with Combat Infantry Badge. He distinguished himself as one of the liberators for the prisoners at the infamous concentration camp, Dachau. After the war, he continued to serve his country as a registrant's advocate to the Selective Service and he did early work on what would later be known as ADA (American Disabilities Act), beginning with the Truman administration. Despite being confined to a wheelchair due to the polio epidemic of 1949; Harry charged forward as if he had no handicap at all. He raised funds for various charitable organizations by criss-crossing the country to promote donations for these worthy causes. He also performed work with the American Red Cross, the Gideon International, and was a member and Chaplain for the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Zia Chapter. Harry is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Pulkka) of Albuquerque, NM; his children, Harry G. Bendsten III and wife, Kena of Albuquerque, NM, Heidi Shaffer and husband, Brian of Garlend, UT, Karen Vallejo and husband, Offad of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Jens Peter Bendtsen and wife, Jennifer of Veguita, NM; nine grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn Brumit of Elizabethton, TN. A Memorial Service will be held today, Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque, 6400 Golf Course Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. CARRILLO -- Frances J. Gabaldon Carrillo, 67, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Sunday, March 19, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fidelino Carrillo; two daughters, Julie Carrillo and Beverly Rokisky; granddaughter, Chastity Rokisky; grandson, David Rokisky II; sisters, Felice Montoya and husband, Joe, Theresa Montoya and husband, Leroy, and Betty Gallegos and husband, Tilo; brothers, Delfin Gabaldon and wife, Beatrice, Felix Gabaldon and wife, Erma, and Simon Gabaldon and wife, Candy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio and Matilda Baca Gabaldon. She was born in Belen, NM on March 13, 1939. Frances attended and graduated from Belen High School. She worked as an educational assistant in special education at Montezuma Elementary School for several years and also as a second grade CCD teacher for twenty years at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. Frances was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. She loved her family foremost in her life. Frances was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. CARRILLO -- Raymond "Tito" E. Carrillo Sr., went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2006 at the age of 64. He was born on December 5, 1941 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos B. Sr. and Ascencion Carrillo and his brother, Adelino Carrillo. Mr. Carrillo was a loving father, brother, and uncle. DENMAN -- Dorothy (Dot) Elaine Denman 79, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday morning, March 18, 2006. Dorothy was born to Hazel and Jimmy Evans on December 16, 1926 in Houston, TX. She married the love of her life, a handsome marine named Don Denman on January 1, 1946. Don has been patiently waiting for her in Heaven since 1986. Dorothy is survived by her children, Mary Halberg and husband, Clark, Sherry Hunt and husband, Michael, Dianna Isom and husband, Marty, Don Denman Jr., Mike Denman and wife, Suzi; grandchildren, Matt Halberg and wife, Michelle, Lisa Edgel and husband, Todd, Heather Brenner and husband, Kevin, Nick Emerson and wife, Lenora, Christopher Emerson, Katy Winans and husband, Don, Ivan Lightfoot and wife, Wendy, Zachary Campbell, and Ashley Isom; beloved great-grandchildren, Miranda & Madison Halberg, Hannah Edgel, Haley Brenner, Kristen, Sarah and Brandon Emerson, Jacob Winans, Noah and Caleb Lightfoot. ELLIS -- JAMES FAY 1941-2006 James Fay Ellis, 64, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, left his earthly home on Sunday, March 12, 2006, after a long illness, to be with his Lord. He was born in Madison, WI on December 5, 1941, the son of Fay Montgomery Ellis and Marie Hanson Ellis. Jim, as he was known to family and friends, will be long remembered for his love of the outdoors and his love of a good story. He worked for the State of New Mexico, UNM, and DOD as a programmer analyst. During retirement, he found great delight exploring the wide and beautiful expanses of this great state and fishing at every opportunity with family and friends. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Fay Ellis. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Carol Ringstead Ellis; his mother, Marie Ellis of Albuquerque; brothers, Phil of Albuquerque Ted and his wife, Barbara of Montgomery, TX, and Chuck of Grand Prairie, TX; sisters, Cathy Irvin and her husband, Bill of Albuquerque, Janet Elliot of Albuquerque; and numerous nephews and nieces. FLORES -- Gerald LeRoy (Lee) Flores, age 49, passed away in St. Louis, MO, Thursday, March 16, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Lee was born in Belen, NM to Erminio and Esther Flores. The family moved to Phoenix, AZ where he attended West Phoenix High School. After graduating, Lee moved to Dallas, TX and Nashville, TN where he worked in the music industry for 25 years. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Erminio. He is survived by his daughter, Devon; sons, Michael and Matthew; his mother, Esther Flores; his brother, Andrew Flores; sisters, Lori Montes and LouAnn Flores and husband Manuel; seven nieces and nephews; one grand nephew and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. FOWLER -- Nancy Lee Fowler passed away on March 18, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. Mrs. Fowler was born in Lockwood, MO in 1935. She attended several "one room" schoolhouses in the Lockwood/Greenwood area as she was growing up. Her father Ralph Lee Marshall passed away when she was quite young. In 1954 the family moved to Kansas City, MO. In 1955 Nancy moved to Denver, CO. and worked in publishing and retail. In 1960 Nancy met and married Julian Larry Fowler. She raised her family as an Air Force wife, moving frequently. The family settled permanently in New Mexico in 1978. Nancy was divorced in 1991 and moved to Albuquerque. She began traveling, living for a time in Guadalajara, Mexico. She loved Mexico, also visiting Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, and Copper Canyon. She learned Argentine Tango, Yoga & weightlifting at UNM, and loved bicycling and hiking. Nancy volunteered weekly at the VA Medical Center where she made many friends. She liked making quilts, having garage sales, reading, gardening, and most of all-she loved FISHING. A long-time member of the Bear Canyon Senior Citizen's Center Fishing Club, she loved fishing with her friends. Her favorite spots were Monastery Lake, Bonito Lake, the Cochiti spillway, and Molas Lake. She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Finis Matt Allison and Mother, Helen Gladys Bush; a sister, Anna Deane Parnall and brother, Robert Allison. She is survived by her sister, Mary Leon of Kansas City, MO.; children, Juli Fowler of Albuquerque, Jay Fowler of Denver, CO, Matthew Fowler and wife, Sarai; and granddaughter, Aja of Roswell, NM. and William Fowler of Las Vegas, NV., and his children, Tasha and Seth; nieces and nephews, Steve Leon of Kansas City, MO, Scott Leon and his wife, Julie of Kansas City, MO and Gayla Sutton and her husband, Dewey of Gilbert, AZ, Craig Allison and his wife, Leslie of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. FRESQUEZ -- Benito Fresquez, 85, of Taos, NM passed away on March 17, 2006, born in the village of Chamisal, NM. His birth parents were Angelica and David Fresquez, stepmother, Eloida Fresquez, all of whom preceded him in death, as did infant brother and then brother, David E. and Joe Fresquez. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris. They met in Tuba City, AZ where both were teachers on the Navajo (Dine) Reservation. His teaching career, especially math, extended to Chimayo, Penasco, and retirement in Taos. He was remembered for his ambidexterity, sometimes writing with one hand and then switching to his left hand. Benito was an extremely private and quiet person but whose sense of humor would emerge unexpectedly to everyone's delight. His surviving family include brothers and sisters, Ruben Fresquez (Claudina), Esther Ortega (Gilbert), Elifas Fresquez (Beatrice), Sadie Davis (James), Marietta Barton (Roy), Rosalina Eichwald (Aaron), Roy Fresquez (Margie) and William Fresquez (June); sister-in-law, Ramona Fresquez; plus many other relatives and close friends. He was an avid gardener, furniture and toymaker, and animal lover. His particular charity was Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 or any other charity of choice. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date to be followed by burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps 1942-1946. GALLEGOS -- David Gallegos, 67, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006 in Albuquerque. He was born in Clyde, NM November 20, 1938, son of the late Jose Angel Gallegos and Barbarita Carriaga. He is one of 13 siblings. He is survived by sisters, Kate Benavidez, Marian Ball, Bertha Molina, Colly Gallegos, Aurelia Graig, and Rosalie Sideroff; and brothers, Juan, Jose, and Richard Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Jaramillo and brothers, Robert and Edwin Gallegos. David was a very special person, full of life. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Scared Heart Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. We would like to express our gratitude to Achievements and a special thanks to Linda Teague for being a great friend. - We will all miss the Real Cowboy.

Born July 4, 1945 in Grants, NM, she lived most of her adult life in Albuquerque, and resided in Moriarty for the past 6 years. Preceded in death by her son, Edward Gonzales, Martha is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Quintana and her husband, Ivan and their children, Nicholas, Christopher, and Jasmine; her sons, Brian Lucero, Dominic Davis, Eric Davis and wife, Jenny and their children, Anissa, Ethan, and Tessa; her brother, John Lucero; her sisters, Ursula Santillano, Georgia Trujillo, and Mary Salazar; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who loved and will miss her very much. HEWITT -- Roland Charles Hewitt passed away at home peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2006 after a long illness. He was born October 18, 1929 to Robert Roy and Sarah Angeline (Cartwright) Hewitt in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Anchorage, AK. While stationed there he met Nina Mae Meyer, and on October 21, 1950 they were married, a union that lasted until his passing. On the 29th day of September, 1954 he received his Honorable Discharge as a sergeant, shortly there after he move to Alexandria, Virginia, where he attained an Associate in Applied Science degree from the CREI Institute. He then moved his family to Albuquerque in 1957, where he began his 31 year career at Sandia Labs. Roland had a good life during which he traveled the world while in his employment. He was instrumental in the establishment of the youth hockey program that continue to this day, as well as being heavily involved in various Hockey teams in the area. He was a member of A.F. & A.M. Mesa Lodge #68 and the Scottish Rite Temple, and a very proud member of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple. He also participated in the Pipe and Drum Band. Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Nina; a son, Russell and his three children, Ryan, Justin, and Jessica; a daughter, Linda Roline Meadows and her children, Jason, Jacob, Sarah, and Jordon; a son, Randy and wife, Monica and their children, Samantha, Nathan, and Lauren; his great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Jamie, Adam, Kayla, and Joseph; He is survived by his brothers, Robert and William Hewitt; and his sisters, Bernice Sealy, Dorothy Carey, Betty Russell, Carol Smith, and Angie Claypole, all of Canada. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends, Roland was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence and Ronald Hewitt; a sister, Leone Wollison; and a grandson, Jon Mark Meadows. LUCERO -- Margaret Ulibarri Lucero, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Theresa, in Albuquerque, NM. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Luis A. Lucero; her parents, Juan Ulibarri and Onofre Ulibarri; her sister, Beatrice Baca; brothers, Ubaldo Ulibarri, Arthur Ulibarri, and Prudencio Ulibarri. She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Lucero and partner, Helen Trujillo, Patricia Ytuarte and husband, Edward; sons, Anthony Lucero and wife, Janell, Marcel Lucero and wife, Eleanor; grandchildren, Paul Ytuarte, Kenneth Ytuarte, Bryan Ytuarte, Gabe Lucero, Nick Lucero, Emily Lucero, Marcel Lucero Jr., and Stewart Lucero, great-grandchildren, Alex Ytuarte and Thalia Ytuarte. Her brother, Juanito Ulibarri; sister, Mary Gonzales; and sisters-in-law, Marion Ulibarri, Alice Gomez, and Virginia Lucero also survive her. Margaret and Louie were married March 23, 1944 in Santa Fe, NM. She was a lifelong member of the Republican Party and was elected Santa Fe County Clerk November 2, 1948 and served two terms. She and Louie moved their family to Los Alamos in 1953 where President Eisenhower appointed her Post Mistress in 1957. She served as Post Mistress for 25 years and retired in 1982. Louie and Margie moved to Rio Rancho in 1994. The family of Margaret wish to express a special thanks to Helen Trujillo for the many days and hours of loving care given to our Mother. To Dr. Richard Moore, Mary Gutierrez, Barbara Lepori, and Heartland Hospice thank you for the countless hours of devotion. OLDHAM -- Maria Anelia Oldham went home to be with Jesus on Sunday morning, March 19, 2006. Maria the daughter of Alfonso and Eva Casaus was born on July 12, 1938. She married the love of her life, Dennis R. Oldham on May 29, 1971. Maria is survived by her two sons, James L. Casaus and wife, Teresa Casaus, Michael A. Casaus and wife, Judy Casaus; daughter, Gloria M. Landreth and husband, Bryant Landreth. She was blessed with three grandsons, Domonic Gabriel, and Kevin Casaus. Maria has six beautiful great-grandchildren. She is survived by five brothers and three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Holy Ghost Church located on San Pedro and Arizona SE. Mass will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006 also at Holy Ghost at 9 a.m. We thank God for all her unconditional love and joyful memories. She was our rock whenever times were tuff. ROMERO -- Venceslado "Ben"/"Perea" Romero, age 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away at his home with his loving family at his side. He married Jennie Griego on June 6, 1947 in their hometown, Tucumcari, NM. She was a devoted wife of 47 years until her passing in 1994. They were both parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Ben proudly served his country in World War II, the Korean War and was a member of both the VFW and American Legion Post 99 for many years. After the war he owned and operated "Ben's Barber Shop" in Tucumcari and "Ben's Carpet Service" in Albuquerque. He was an accomplished fisherman and an avid hunter and was well known as "Catfish Ben" at Bluewater Lake in western New Mexico. His most admirable quality was making new friends everywhere he went. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Zia Hospice for the loving care given to their father and to all the family. He will always be loved, remembered and missed by all who knew him. Ben is survived by his five children: Barbara Olson and husband, Bruce, Robert Romero and wife, Linda, JoAnn Romero and boyfriend, Ernest Segura, Anna Romero, Peter Romero and wife, Debbie; brother and sister, Jose Romero and wife, Susie, Pauline Pacheco and husband, Anthony; grandchildren, Dominic, Natalie, and Sara Olson; Christopher and Justin Romero; Vicente and Cecilia Gonzales; Peter, Rory and wife, Samantha, and Monique Romero; great-grandchildren, Venceslado Romero and Garrett Romero. SALAZAR -- Dolores M. Salazar died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at a local Albuquerque hospital. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald G. Salazar of the family home; daughter, Pauline A. Riley and husband, Roger D. of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Serena and Jarrett Riley of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Otilia "Tillie" Wisniewski and husband, Frank of El Paso, TX and Pita G. Sanchez of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Pablo and Andrea Gutierrez; sisters, Terry Duran, Josephine Gutierrez, and Toni Warlick; brothers, Jose and Horacio Gutierrez; and nephews, Bobby Ray Gutierrez and Marshall Bass. Mrs. Salazar was born in Santa Rosa, NM and attended school there. She later worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company until her retirement. Dolores was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and loved all of them very much. SANCHEZ -- Dorothy Sanchez, 79, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006. Dorothy was born March 24, 1926 the daughter of Maurice and Frances Madrid Silva in Alamogordo, NM. Another angel has gone home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy was a chile connoisseur, a great cook, and a wonderful entertainer. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Joe, in 2003. Dorothy is survived by four children, Alice Garcia and husband, Ralph of Albuquerque, NM, Joan Morgan and husband, Bob of Tucson, AZ, Cynthia Gunderson of Albuquerque, NM, and Michael Sanchez, M.D., of San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren, Carrie Lyn and husband, Zach, Aric and wife, Julie, Dee Ann and husband, Peter, Jayson and wife, Stephanie, Rachael, Carla, and Suzanne; five great-grandchildren, Alexander, Carolyn, Madison, Natalie, and Milo. SANDS -- Helen Sands passed away at age 91. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Sands. Helen came to Albuquerque in 1944. She was co-owner of Sandia Family Store with Bessie Shapiro and Ruth Mager Bernstein for 36 years. Helen later worked for Savon Flower Shops. Helen is survived by two sons, Barry Sands and wife, Eva of Cleveland, and Ron Sands and wife, Henia of Phoenix; a daughter, Carol Foster and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Sands and wife, Libby of Boston, Anya Rudd and husband, John of Cleveland, Penny, Cindy, Annie Sands, all of Phoenix; seven great-grandchildren, Jackson, Mia, Katrina, all of Cleveland, Amanda, Francesca Sands of Boston, Aiden and Jordon of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Karen Mager, Anita Miller and Ken Mager, William and Henry Roth. Helen was a life member of Congregation B'nai Israel and Hadassah. She was honored as one of the first women to carry the Torah on Kol Nidre night services. She was voted "Women of Achievement" of 1982. She was a volunteer to Torah Fund, Chapter II, Sunshine lady for the gift shop at Congregation B'Nai Israel, "Project Shore" to feed the homeless. At her retirement home she was nominated resident of the month and was a resident greeter as well. Graveside Services for Mrs. Sands will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery with Rabbi Arthur Flicker and Cantor Caitlin Bromberg officiating.
