ALVAREZ -- Margaret Alvarez, 92, died on Sunday, February 12, 2006, in Albuquerque, NM. Margaret is survived by her husband, Benjamin, of the family home with 61 years of marriage; four daughters, Cynthia Gaigl; Sharon Lucero, and husband, Gil of New Mexico; Barb McClellan, and husband, Bart of Cheyenne, WY; Elaine Lewis, and husband, Frank of La Habra, CA; sons, Peter Camacho and wife, Nora of Orlando, FL; and Ben Alvarez, Jr., and wife, Linda of Rocklin, CA. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and 14 siblings. Margaret was born in Kohala, Maui, on Monday, December 4, 1913, to Harry and Julia Gustino Spreen. Margaret loved being around her children, traveling, cooking, crocheting, and entertaining family and friends. She would help strangers in their time of need. Margaret was the glue that kept the family tight and nurtured them throughout the tough times. She was very active in the church and was involved in teaching children on the Sabbath. Margaret loved her animals and playing her sweet Hawaiian music. She was great at dancing the Hula. Funeral Services will be Friday, February 17, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Heights 7th Day Adventist Church with Pastor Neff officiating. Burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. CHAVEZ -- Arturo Chavez, 81, beloved husband to Emelda; loving father to Manuel and Eliza, Phillip and Lupe, James and Katie, Frances and Florentino, Sadie and Jaime, Richard and Dorothy, Alfred and Kathy, Sophie and Nestor, Steve, and Arthur Jr. and Rose; adored grandfather to 32 and great-grandfather to 15; dearest brother to Lumina Salazar and Vivian Chavez. He was preceded in death by son, Michael and grandson, Anthony, and joining his family of nine brothers and sisters. A viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2006 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. COLLINS -- Andrea Georgia Alires Collins passed into eternal life on Sunday, February 12, 2006 after a long and courageous life. Andrea was born May 17, 1929, the daughter of Salomon and Ida Maestas Alires in Las Vegas, NM. She was a loving wife, nurturing mother, and wonderful and loyal friend to all who had the pleasure of her company. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends all of whom were touched by her infectious laugh and joyous smile. Andrea was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Collins; her sons, Dr. Thomas Collins and Randy Collins; her brothers, Salomon and Dan Alires. She is survived by her children, Ray Collins and wife, Cathy, JoAnn Sanchez and her husband, Tony, Donna Collins and Fluffy, Gary Collins, Gerald Collins and his wife, Jeanne; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Collins; and her sister, Alice Maestas. She is also survived by a tremendous legacy of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Andrea's special caretakers at Rio Rancho Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care and friendship. CORDOVA -- Criselda B. Cordova, beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 in Albuquerque at the age of 54. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Lucero. Criselda is survived by her son, Antonio Griego; daughter, Dorinda Lucero; brothers, Fabian Lopez and wife, Margaret, Sonny Lopez and wife, Maria, Ernie Lopez and wife, Jeanette; and her grandchildren, Wayne, James, Gabriel, Dillon, Ashley, Kenneth, and Patience. DOMINGUEZ -- Thomas A. Dominguez, 84, resident of Albuquerque since 1953, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Zelma; son, Lee Robert; brothers, Sam and George; sisters, Josie, Lita, Minnie, Margaret, and Lorenza. Thomas spent his early years working for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a truck driver. He joined the New Mexico National Guard and from there spent the next five years serving in the Army during World War II with the 804 Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company B, where he received the Bronze Star and Silver Star for saving the life of a fellow soldier. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he went and received training at the Universal Plumbing School in Kansas City, Missouri. Thomas worked as a plumber, gas and pipe fitter for various companies. He was a union member of UA Local 412 for 50 years. Thomas has been a past delegate of the NM AFL-CIO, donated his services to the Ronald McDonald House and the Heats-On Program. He was a member of the VFW Post 1793. Since his retirement, his main joy was fishing with his buddies from the Bear Canyon Fishing Club. Cremation has taken place. FARIS -- Albert James Faris was born May 16, 1924. Loving son of Florida and Said, husband, father, brother, and friend, he went to be with the Lord, Friday February 10, 2006. A lifelong resident of New Mexico, and a member of Iron Workers Local #495, Albert James Faris leaves many fond loving memories for his family members and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernie; three daughters, Elizabeth Ward and husband, James, Lorraine Blackman and husband, Miles, Joy Clark and husband, Mike; seven grandchildren, Rick Gonzales, James Ward Jr., Miles Lee Blackman Jr., Lauren Blackman, Jon Blackman, Miranda Clark, Jay Clark; two great-grandchildren, Sara Flores and Tobias Smotts; only surviving sister, Florence Faris; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; past golfing buddies, fishing companions, and lifelong friends. FARRELLY -- Stephen Farrelly, 83, a noted Albuquerque rental property owner and retired Sandian, died on Saturday, February 11, 2006, following a short illness. Originally of Rye, NY, Stephen had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1948. He served dutifully in the U.S. Air Force during WWII in Italy and was recipient of a baccalaureate in Philosophy from the University of New Mexico in 1952. Stephen subsequently went to work as a high-speed test photographer at Sandia National Laboratories, retiring in 1971 in order to concentrate more fully on his burgeoning rental property business, a business that he played an active role in until the day of his death. Former president of the La Noche Garden Club and publisher of the Bon Vivant wine guide, Stephen was also an avid still photographer, birdwatcher, woodworker, and world traveler. He loved life and all who had the pleasure of knowing him will sorely miss his cleverness and humor. Stephen leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Flora; son, David and wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Diana and husband, Thomas Scalf; and two grandchildren, Jeremiah and Victoria. "For now I am ready to go. The time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." GONZALES -- Matias Gonzales, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 12, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Alvina Gonzales; children, Raymond Gonzales and wife, Linda of Cincinnati, OH, Peggy Lopez-Oneil and husband, Pat of Rio Rancho; Beatriz Gonzales and husband, Dave Moore of Albuquerque, Pauline Roybal of Las Cruces, Patrick Gonzales and wife, Maria of Gonzales Ranch, NM, Geneva Pacheco and husband, Juan of Albuquerque, Sadie Nelson and husband, Raymond of Mustang, OK, and Randy Gonzales of Mustang, OK; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tommy Gonzales, Alfredo Gonzales, Johnny Gonzales, and Don Gonzales. Matias was born and raised at Gonzales Ranch, NM where he learned to work 300 acres of land by planting, cultivating, and harvesting pinto beans, wheat, alfalfa, and a variety of vegetables. He also raised livestock and poultry. Matias moved to Albuquerque in 1957 and worked as a warehouse foreman until retirement. GONZALEZ -- Mr. Manuel Gonzalez, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 12, 2006. Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his two daughters, Linda Ulibarri and husband, Mike, Mary Alderete and husband, Anthony; one son, Michael Anthony Gonzalez and girlfriend, Cecilia. He is also survived by his companion, Maggie Garcia; seven grandchildren, Esther Romine and husband, Joe Lee, Lisa Ulibarri, Angela Montano and husband, Mark, Antoinette M. Alderete and fiance, Manuel Artiaga, Juan Alderete, Eric Gonzalez Sr. and fiancee, Vanessa Dominguez and Marisa Gonzalez; ten great-grandchildren, Nicole, Nicolas, and Noelle Romine, Esteban Montano, Kristopher Ulibarri, Marriah Montano, Antonio Artiaga, Isaiah Rawlings, Eric Gonzalez Jr., and Erminia Esther Gonzalez; one sister, Jennie Sanchez and husband, Larry; three brothers, Johnny Gonzalez and wife, Mary, Roman Gonzalez and wife, Catherine, Fred Gonzalez and wife, Linda; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. HELMICK -- Dorothy "Dede" Helmick, 78, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006. Dorothy is survived by sons, Rick Helmick, and wife, Pati; George Helmick; Rob Helmick, and wife, Teri; Tim Helmick, and wife, Christine; Dwight Helmick, and wife, Brenda; daughter, Diane Sanchez, and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Alex, Ryan, Adam, Chase, Konner, Dakota, Dalton, Dylan, Delaney, Jason, Brett, Christa, and Charla; sisters, Mary Ellen Masters and Patricia Harrison; and brother, Jack Mooney. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dick Helmick. Dorothy was born in Sacramento, CA. She married Richard H. Helmick, Career Air Force Military Officer, in 1949. Dorothy resided with her husband and children at Air Force Bases in Anchorage, AK, Washington D.C., Sacramento, CA, Montgomery, AL, and Ramstein, Germany. They permanently settled in Albuquerque in 1963. Dorothy devoted her life to the study and practice of naturopathic and holistic medicine. She trained under, and was an associate of Dr. Parcells. HUCKABY -- Patsy Lou Huckaby, age 74, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 13, 2006. INSLEY -- PATRICIA ALICE. A late Christmas present to Alice McBride Insley and Thomas Insley, Patricia Alice Insley was born on December 26, 1926 in Santa Fe, NM. She left us peacefully on February 13, 2006 after a short illness. Her corporate world was with the State of New Mexico working for the vital statistics department. After a fulfilling career she enjoyed retirement. "Pat" leaves behind a legacy of new wildlife watchers and lovers. Her first love was mineral collecting. This toured her around looking at all of the beauty that nature offered leading her to a second love and that was birds. She was an avid bird watcher and an incredible teacher. Working with both Randall Davey Audubon and the Wildlife Center, she taught the love of life around us and all that it offered. She will be missed but is guiding all the furred and feathered on field trips in her new life. JARAMILLO -- Donnie L. Jaramillo, 52, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Koch of Albuquerque; children, Donnie Jaramillo III and wife, Shalynn of Stanley, and Devon Jaramillo and wife, Bernadette of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Tristin, Dusteane, Danessa, Kane, and Kendra Jaramillo; father, Don Jaramillo; brother, Andy Jaramillo and wife, Rosanne; sister, Patricia Quintana and husband, Joseph; sister, Lulu Elliott; brother, Tony Elliott and wife, Judy. KOZLOWSKI -- Victoria "Vicky" D. Kozlowski was born May 8, 1953, and died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the age of 53. She was a life-long resident of Albuquerque. She attended Valley High School and graduated in 1972. Vicky was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She sacrificed for all of her children and family, her laughter and smiling face will be missed by family and friends. Vicky is now in the hands of our Lord and will be met at the Gate of Heaven, by her mother, Angela, grandmother, Eleanor, and her father-in-law, Joseph Kozlowski, who thought of her as his daughter. LOPEZ -- Guadalupe (Lupe) Lopez, 79, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006, surrounded by her family. LOVATO -- Elizabeth Baca Lovato, 41, died Thursday, February 9, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Edward Lovato; sons, Josh, Chris and Dominic; parents, Nestor and Nellie Baca; siblings, Corkey and wife, Jena, Jay, Dennis and wife, Sharon; sister, Veronica and husband, Brian; 11 nieces and nephews; one great-niece; a very large loving extended family including Maria Lared, her dearest friend; and Edward's extended family at Santo Domingo Pueblo. Liz attended St. Therese Little Flower Catholic School. She graduated from Menaul High School in 1982, she earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of New Mexico and then she earned her National Board Licensure in 2005. She taught school at Corrales Elementary School from 1991 to 2005 and then she taught at North Slope Borough School District from 2005 until the time of her death. MARCHI -- Cesaria B. ("Cesy") Marchi, formerly of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006, at the age of 80. She was born December 4, 1925, in Cebolla, NM to Jose R. and Lupita Atencio. Ms. Marchi was preceded in death by her parents and son, David Duran. MAY -- MERRILL. Dr. Merrill May, 92, resident of Rio Rancho, died Sunday, February 5, 2006. He was born July, 13 1913 in Newton, IL, the sole child of E.O. and Mabel May. He lived in Newton until moving to study in Chicago where he received a B.A. in English in 1935 and a M.A. in English in 1936, both from the University of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On completion of his service he resumed his studies, earning a Ph.D. in English, also from the University of Chicago, in 1954. Dr. May taught English at the University of Illinois, the University of Nebraska, and Northwestern University before joining the English faculty at Purdue University in 1953. He retired from Purdue as a Professor Emeritus of English in 1979. Dr. May began spending summers in his beloved New Mexico in the 1960s, and became an expert on Southwestern literature and art. He moved to Albuquerque after retirement, where he continued to pursue his interests in Southwestern literature, art, and culture. He also became very active as a patron of theater in Albuquerque, including serving on the board of the Vortex Theatre. Dr. May was a true renaissance man, with a great depth and breadth of knowledge of literature, history, art, and politics. He was an accomplished poet. He was an engaging and entertaining conversationalist, who enjoyed his family and friends greatly as they also enjoyed his company. He was loyal, kind, and generous to all, and brought good cheer and wisdom into the lives of many people. He was loved and will be missed. Dr. May is survived by his cousins, Parrie Pleyte of Chelan, WA, Jim Shortle of Linden Hall, PA, Sarah Shortle of Albuquerque, and Parrie Veo of Rolla, MO. His family is deeply grateful to Joyce Gammill, Bob Cosgrove, and Brenda Borren for the friendship and care they gave to Merrill in his later years. PALM -- Henry A. Palm, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 12, 2006. He was born in Albuquerque to Samuel Augustus Palm and Angelita Madrid Palm. Henry was raised on the Palm ranch in Deming, NM. He played on the Deming Wildcats State Champion Football Team in 1933. He graduated from New Mexico A & M in 1939. Hank went into the United States Army in 1944. After completing Officers Candidate school he was shipped to the Pacific and later served in Japan. Upon completion of his active duty he remained in the Army Reserves until 1965. Hank served as a Director in the Farmers Home Administration and later for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He managed state programs in New Mexico, Washington State, Washington, D.C. and Alaska and was awarded several Distinguished Service certificates throughout his career. Hank returned to Las Cruces in 1978. He enjoyed playing in many golf tournaments throughout the U.S.; he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He and his late wife, the former Willa Jones, were married for 64 years and traveled extensively; surely they are once again full-time traveling partners. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1119 in Las Cruces, role model for many, published Cowboy poet and teller of ranch history about New Mexico. Henry is survived by two sisters, Marie Stewart of Dallas, TX, and Susie Hosford of Las Cruces; sons, Sam Palm of Mesilla, David Palm of Albuquerque; daughters, Mary Callahan and Judi Thomas of Las Cruces; grandchildren, Lesly, Henry, Jared, Angelita, and Elizabeth; and six great-grandchildren. SALAZAR -- Jose Benny Salazar, a resident of Los Ojos, NM, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Praxedes and Benita Salazar. SAMPSON -- Edith K. Sampson passed away on February 13, 2006. Born to Maggie Sisson Johnston and Jordan LeRoy Johnston in Kahoka, MO on February 2, 1913, she was predeceased by her husband, Arnold I. "Terry" Sampson Jr., and by her sister, Marjorie Cecil Johnston. Edith graduated from Austin High School in 1929, and received her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1933, having made Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. She received her Master's Degree at UTA in 1937, and received her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in 1943. She was co-author with Marjorie C. Johnston of several textbooks and workbooks. Edith taught 16 years in public schools including 5 years at the University of Illinois. She was appointed Head of the Foreign Language Department of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1943. She was the author of Regional Dances of Mexico. Edith was active in the Women's Council of Realtors and helped start the annual Balloon Fiesta. She was also very active in the Luminaria Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She was a member of Table II of the Pan American Round Table. Edith was a life member of the National Education Association, and of the National Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. She was a member of both Sigma Delta Pi (the Spanish Honor Association), and of Pi Lambda Theta (the Education Honor Association). She was a traveling salesperson for a photographic wholesaler in St. Louis. She met Terry while teaching at the American Institute for Foreign Trade in Arizona and they married in Bentonville, Arkansas, in 1952. Life in the military took them many places overseas and in the United States. Terry retired as a Major in the U.S. Army in 1966 and the family relocated to Albuquerque. Edith worked as a Welcome Wagon hostess for several years and then sold real estate for a number of years. She is survived by her daughter, Mindy Anne Sampson and grandson, Alexander Daniel Sterling; and by her other daughter, Ellanie Sampson and her husband, Henry "Hank" Clark Baisdon. According to her wishes, she has been cremated and her cremains will be interred at her husband's grave in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Also according to her wishes, there will be no services.

SANCHEZ -- Jane Calvin Sanchez, 76, born to James Frank and Ruth Goodkind Calvin on April 27, 1929, suddenly and unexpectedly left this world to be with the Lord on February 12, 2006. STUMPH -- Kathleen Stumph was born January 27, 1915 in Colorado City, TX and moved to Rodeo, NM when she was three months old. She graduated from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy (high school) in Knoxville, TN in 1933. She graduated from University of New Mexico in 1939. She married Earl J. Geisler in 1941 in Albuquerque, NM. He passed away in 1964. She married Roy C. Stumph in 1966. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1997. They retired in 1973 and lived in Albuquerque five years. They moved to Mesa, AZ in 1978 where she resided until moving to Dallas, TX in 1999 and lived with her daughter, Ruth. She taught first grade in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 22 years and on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Western New Mexico for 10 years. She was church organist for the Crestview Baptist Church in Albuquerque for fifteen years and for Brown Road Baptist Church in Mesa for sixteen years. Kathleen and Roy Stumph were very active in the The Gideons International, Mission Service Corp with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board, and the Brown Road Baptist Church in Mesa. After Kathleen moved to Dallas, she was very active in Brookhaven Church, taught English in the Kurdish Ministry, and taught English as a Second Language at the Marcus Recreation Center. Survivors include daughters, Ruth Geisler of Dallas, TX and Mildred Tester of Sun City, AZ; one brother, Elmer Claude Snyder of Paris, AR; one niece, Ida Mae Gendreau; two nephews, James Snyder and Robert Snyder of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Ronda Goodin, Kathleen Skelly, and Becky Spain of Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Stephanie, and Alexis Goodin, and Madison and Daniel Skelly; one great-nephew, Mike Gendreau; and two great-nieces, Marie Gendreau and Jeanne Padilla; and many other precious family and friends who love her and will miss her deeply. She died peacefully in Dallas, TX on February 7, 2006 at the age of 91 years. She will be interred at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mesa, AZ.
