ALLEN -- Onella Ruth Allen 80, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Cleodia Lynch; sister, Ginger Bennett; and daughter, Lisa Morga. She is survived by her sister, Noella Mae Palmer of Kansas City, MO; brother, William Lynch and wife, Lynnelle of Albuquerque; son, David Allen of Albuquerque; daughter, Rhonda Davis and husband, Steve of Cedar Crest; daughter, Janene Zabel and husband, Michael of Tijeras; and daughter, Tina Buchel and husband, Glen of Bloomsbury, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lara Torres of Belen; Christy Bauer, Lesley Morga, Megan Morga and Justin Garcia, all of Edgewood; Crystal Minnich of Belen; Eric Clinch of Moriarty; and, Amanda and Adam Buchel of Bloomsbury, NJ; eight great-grand children, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Onella, born August 21, 1925 was a life-long resident of Albuquerque. She was raised by her loving parents in the Five Points district in Albuquerque's South Valley. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA before making her career at Sandia Laboratories of which she retired in 1982. Although she had a successful career and had raised a wonderful family, her true passion was cooking. That same year, with the help of her devoted mother, she opened the first Feed Bag Eatery in Tijeras. The restaurant was later relocated to Cedar Crest where it became a favorite place for the local residents to visit and enjoy a delicious meal. After selling her successful restaurant in 1991, she cared for her elderly mother and her very ill daughter, while at the same time working at Ethicon. It wasn't until 1999 that Onella became ill herself and spent her final years in the home and under the loving care of her faithful daughter in Tijeras. Always on the move, never allowing herself to rest, Onella had a strong work ethic and unbelievable stamina. Onella will be remembered for her wonderful cooking, but also for the way she lived her life; with great style, dignity and poise. She has left an imprint on the hearts of her family and many friends that can never be replaced. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. God saw your body was failing, A cure was not to be. So He wrapped His arms around you, And whispered, "Come with me." With tearful eyes, We watched you suffer, And saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not bear your pain. Your resolute heart stopped beating, Your tired hands now rest. Your work is finished dear one, You've passed the final test. You thought you were not worthy, That you had to earn His love, But before you left you proved to us, You were more than good enough. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500

MCMULLAN -- John J. McMullan, age 88, died peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2005 from respiratory complications and degenerative heart disease following a short term illness. He was born July 26, 1917, in Kansas City, Missouri to Noreen Cunningham McMullan (d. 1976) of Atchison, Kansas and John J. McMullan (d. 1919 of pandemic influenza), a naturalized citizen from Lorne-County Atrim, Northern Ireland. He graduated from De La Salle Academy in Kansas City in 1935 and entered the University of New Mexico until graduation in January 1941. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and was ultimately recognized as a "Life Loyal Sig" as part of active involvement in the Beta Xi Chapter at UNM. He enlisted in the Army in August 1941 just prior to his marriage on November 28, 1942 to his surviving wife, Elizabeth Walker McMullan, originally from La Junta, Colorado. He met his wife of 63 years while attending UNM. Following his military service and discharge and following 18 months of hospitalization from tuberculosis, they settled in Albuquerque where he entered the real estate business with Anderman and Glasebrook. Over the next 60 years of active involvement in the real estate business, he developed and built more than 700 homes, 900 apartment units and numerous office and industrial buildings throughout Albuquerque. He handled the sale of the land which is presently Coronado Center to Bellamah Corporation in 1956. Subsequently he was elected President of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors in 1965. In 1966, he was named Realtor of the Year in Albuquerque. In 1995, he was the recipient of the "C.O. Nelson Award" - an award for "Longevity, Professionalism and Service to the Real Estate Community". In 1976, he ventured into politics when elected to the New Mexico Legislature as a State Representative for House District #30 in Bernalillo County. He served 9 consecutive terms during his 18 year tenure in the Legislature. The single most important piece of legislation he authored was the "Mandatory Wage Deduction for Child Support of Divorced Parents." This legislation subsequently became the model legislation for numerous other states. He also succeeded in passing a highly controversial bill - "Grandparents Visitation Rights of Grandchildren of Divorced Parents". He also was a co-sponsor and author of the "Yield Control Bill" limiting property tax increases. Aside from his real estate development activities and his term in New Mexico politics, his interests expanded in 1960 to include his part ownership of the Albuquerque Dukes Baseball Club, an affiliate of the Kansas City Athletics baseball organization. In 1963, as an owner, he established a new franchise relationship with the Los Angeles Dodgers and in 1964 sold the AA Texas League franchise to the Dodgers while retaining his active involvement as Vice President until 1979. Elton Schiller, General Manager of Dodgers Triple A franchise said, "The only way Albuquerque could stay in baseball would be with a new all-purpose stadium. McMullan was really the 'Father' of the idea so to speak. He has been the force behind everything we have done in pro baseball since the Dodgers moved to Albuquerque." For over fifty years, his favorite family event was an annual fishing trip to Gunnison, Colorado to fish the Taylor and East Rivers with his sons and grandchildren. OWINGS -- Margaret E. She took care of her infirm mother at home until shortly before Mrs. Erdel's death in 1958 and also supported her daughter's school and extracurricular activities here by serving in PTAs, as a leader of Girl Scout Troop #70, and on the Guardian Council of Bethel #2, International Order of Job's Daughters--additionally serving that organization as Grand Secretary of the Grand Guardian Council of New Mexico in 1965-66. Individually, Margaret was a member of a local chapter of the service organization Epsilon Sigma Alpha, from which in 1969 she received the First Pearl Award for exceptional participation. It's lonesome here without you, we miss you more each day, life doesn't seem the same since you went away. When days are sad and lonely and everything goes wrong, we seem to hear you whisper, "cheer up and carry on". Each time we see your picture you seem to smile and say, "don't cry I'm in God's hands and we'll meet again some day"! --The Serna Family--
