ANDRADE -- Guillermo G. Andrade went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2005 at the age of 89. He was born on February 10, 1916 in Durango, Mexico. He is survived by his sons, Galdino Andrade and wife, Alberta, Everardo Andrade and wife, Claudine, Margarito Andrade and wife, Elodia and Manuel Andrade and wife, Velia; daughters, Maria Garcia and husband, Joe and Guillermina Andrew and husband, Filiberto; brothers, Gabino Andrade and Isabel Andrade and wife, Maria; sisters, Gertrudes Andrade and Crecencia Nevarez and husband, Francisco; 38 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren. Guillermo will be deeply missed by all. Visitations will be held on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. BACA -- Rafaelita Baca, 75, of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 5, 2005. She was born on September 2, 1930 in Socorro, NM to Gregorio and Vedelia Maria Baca. She was preceded in death by her brother, Severo Baca. She is survived by her five daughters, Mary Bouchard and husband, Ronald Sr., Sophie Tavasci and husband, Dan, Bert Rivera and husband, Joe, Lucy Trujillo and husband, Edward, Patricia Willis and husband, Daniel; nine grandchildren, Barb Rivera, Ron Bouchard, Jr., Christopher Bouchard, Vedelia Trujillo-Hoey, Lori Baca, Quito Canon, Danny Tavasci, Jr., Nicole Canon, and Zachary Willis; and nine great-grandchildren, Layla, Shanell, Keely, Amberly, Jaydrick, Angelique, Izayah, Cameron, and Hayden; and brothers, Jose Elias Baca and Rafael Baca. Rafaelita was a devoted Christian and a strong witness for Jesus Christ. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, cooking, crocheting, and traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Rafaelita's greatest joy was to be around her family, which was very important to her. She will be greatly missed and loved, but never forgotten. CASHION -- Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Benton Cashion, 80, a long-term resident of Albuquerque, died on Friday afternoon, September 30, 2005 after a long battle with congestive heart problems. Betty was born on March 23, 1925 to Alice and James Thomas Benton. She married John Cashion on August 14 1967 in Albuquerque. She grew up in Albuquerque, graduated from Albuquerque High in 1943 and attended the University of New Mexico. Betty was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the UNM Ski Team and she acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Inter-American Affairs, in 1947. After graduating, she worked as a translator for the United Nations and then spent a year in Europe, working for the Service Civil Internationale (forerunner of the Peace Corp). Her true passion was snow skiing, which she learned at the age of 13 and competed in many racing events, becoming the New Mexico Women's Downhill Champion in 1945. In 1948, while working in Beartown, MA, Betty became the first woman Certified as a Ski Instructor in the Eastern Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. She returned to Albuquerque in 1949 as the head of the La Madera (now Sandia Peak) ski school for 2 years. She left Albuquerque for nine years, teaching skiing on the East Coast for several years and also lived in London, England for a year. Betty returned to Albuquerque for good in 1960 and taught skiing at La Madera (Sandia Peak) every year since, until she retired from skiing in 2003 at the age of 78. She had many other interests during her lifetime, enjoying tennis, bike riding, traveling, teaching school, a good party, her fruit trees and the tulips in Holland, all while running a properties business involving warehouses and rentals. She is survived by her husband, John; her two sons, Randall (wife Kim) of Arvada, CO, Chris (wife Debbie) of Highlands Ranch, CO; step-daughter, Leda (husband Larry) of Cuba, NM; and her brother, Bruce of Albuquerque. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, Megan, Tiffany, Sheri, Teri, Malina, and Becky; and three great-grandchildren, Eli, Kenneth, and Dylan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. CRATER -- Nellie Obera Black Crater passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2005 on her 82nd birthday, at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born in the mining town of Dawson, NM. Having spent her early years in Albuquerque, her family moved to southern California where she met and married her husband, Donald Crater, of Pasadena, CA. Mrs. Crater received her B.S. in nursing from Loma Linda University, served as a nurse at the California Institution for Women in Chino and as a public school nurse for the Yucaipa California Public Schools. The Craters moved to Albuquerque in 1980 and Nellie was a nurse in the Albuquerque Public Schools until she retired in 1996. She was active in various ways at Hoffmantown Church and with the Billy Graham organization. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Crater; and her son, David Wayne Crater; as well as by brothers, Harmon Black, Lorin Black; and sister, Hortense Black Dalbey (all of Albuquerque); and by brothers, Leo Black and William Black. She is survived by her brother, Phillip Black of California; her son, Timothy Donald Crater, a pastor in Virginia; and four grandsons-David, Jonathan, Andrew, and Matthew Crater. Mrs. Crater also had two great-granddaughters, Grace and Harper. GALLEGOS -- Anna Marie Gallegos, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 in Socorro, NM. She was born April 25, 1914 to Martin and Benina (Savedra) Chavez in Mangas, NM. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leandro Gallegos Sr.; her sons: Filemon, Ramon, Eloy, Arsenio, and Leandro Jr.; and her sister, Cipriana Griego. Anna Marie is survived by her sons: Esiquio and Robert, both of Barstow, CA; Leonardo and Patrick, both of Albuquerque, NM; and Leroy of Belen, NM; daughters: Gloria Arriaga and Mary Griego, both of Barstow, CA; Tomasita Lucero of Aragon, NM; and Frances Sanchez of Datil, NM; sister, Lucilla Baca of Socorro, NM; 35 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. LEOPOLD -- Lawrence (Larry) W. Leopold, 87, died peacefully at Harlan County Hospital in Alma, NE surrounded by his loving family on September 29, 2005. He was laid to rest with military honors near his beloved mother and father in Alma on October 1, 2005. Larry was born in Orleans, NE on November 26, 1917, the son of Theodore Hovey Leopold and Eva (Wolf) Leopold. He graduated from high school in Alma in 1936. Larry served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Mae; one of their seven children, Diana Sue; and his second wife, Mary Jean. During his 50-plus years as a resident of Albuquerque and Los Lunas, Larry worked as a diesel mechanic. After retirement, he drove a school bus in Los Lunas and tutored children with their reading. In 1998 he returned to Alma where he also assisted teachers with the children's reading. Each school year he received mountains of letters and artwork from the children who so dearly loved him. Mourning his passing are his loving children, Beth Crabill of St. Petersburg, FL, Carol Bennefield of Los Lunas, NM, Janice Jensen and husband, James of Las Vegas, NV, Frances Thomas and husband, Richard of Bastrop, TX, Eva Morrell and Marcia Chadly of Westminster, CO, and Robert Leopold and wife, Christina of Los Lunas, NM; sisters, Evelyn Ulmer Kelley of Lincoln, NE and Dorothy Tice and husband, Richard of Alma, NE; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Larry was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, and was well known for his pancake breakfasts for the Two-soms Class, as well as other culinary delights he prepared from his "Cooking for 200" cookbook handed down from his mother. Larry was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge #1517 and the local Lions Club in Los Lunas. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, a good neighbor, ever-ready to lend a helping hand, a wonderful father to his seven children, a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, and a friend to everyone he met. His children and grandchildren are blessed to have had so many years to learn from him and receive his guidance. When Larry was approaching 80, he often-times had to be reminded that he was retired now and could cut back to an 8 or 10-hour workday. Larry's selflessness, family values, coaching, teaching, kindness, and the ever-present twinkle in his eye touched many lives and hearts, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

LOPEZ -- LALA G. Mrs. Lala (Adelaida) G. Lopez, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on October 4, 2005. Mrs. Lopez was the daughter of Margarito Griego and Epifania Sanchez Griego. Mrs. Lopez is survived by her sons, Joseph (Sonny) Lopez and wife, Cecilia, Rudy Lee Lopez; two daughters, Priscilla Gutierrez and husband, Danny, Mary Salazar and husband, Manuel; 16 grandchildren; 31 great children; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Lopez was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Genovevo in 1997; a daughter, Licha in 1939; and a son, Epimenio (Epie) M. Lopez in 1992. Mrs. Lopez was a member of the Catholic Church. In January 1995 in celebration of Lala and Genovevo's 60th anniversary, the county officially dedicated the cross street where the Lopez's lived their entire marriage, Lala-Gene Lane. Lala was a homemaker who loved crocheting blankets and doll dresses and deeply loved her family which was evident as she helped raise many of her grandchildren. A visitation for Lala will be Thursday afternoon in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A visitation will be after 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. MILES -- Wilbur John Miles, 85, died on Tuesday. He was from Vineland, NJ and moved to Albuquerque in the early 40s. He was a loving father and grandfather. We will miss you, Daddy. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Miles. He is survived by his daughters: Rosemary (Delbert) Bell, Rebecca (Ken) Sickenger, Elizabeth (Chris) Page, Mindy (Ross) Ioane; son: Stephen (Debbie) Miles; sister, Elaine; and 12 grandchildren. PADILLA -- Praxedes 1906-2005 Praxedes Padilla, a longtime resident of Belen, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2004 in the presence of her children. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Society. She was born in La Joya, NM to Juan Thomas Griego and Tomasita Barela Griego on December 7, 1906. Praxedes was preceded in death by her husband, Sesario; son Wilfred; and daughter-in-law, Eva. She is survived by two sons, Martin and wife, Corinne and Evisalio, all of Belen; grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Melva of Littleton, CO, Angela and husband, Rod Brown of Albuquerque, Martin Ray and wife, Deborah of Pompano Beach, FL, Paula of Albuquerque, Mary Frances and husband, Tony Coen of Glendale, AZ, Patricia and husband, Don Cullen of Las Cruces, NM, Armando and wife, Christina of La Mirada, CA, and Mario, also of La Mirada, CA. PAOLETTI -- Bruno Paoletti, 87, died of lung cancer on Sunday, October 2, 2005. He was born in Panama, Illinois and raised in St. Louis, MO. Bruno and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Bruno is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille; daughter, Clarice Jenkins and husband, John of Albuquerque; brother, Lee Paoletti and wife, Edythe of Sun City, AZ; sister, Inez Paoletti; granddaughter, Teri Coker and husband, Mick, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Robert Paoletti and wife, Dee of Los Lunas; great-grandchildren, Jesse Pedersen and husband, David of Albuquerque, Melissa Clarice Paoletti of Los Lunas, Clinton Coker of Cloudcroft, Sarah Vega and daughter, Izabella of Kodiak, AK, P.J. Vega and son, Jay of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Lee Paoletti in 1959. Bruno served in the United States Army during WWII as a heavy equipment operator. He was a machinist at Sandia National Laboratories and retired in 1983, after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Italian American Club and the Bear Canyon Senior Center Fishing Club. Bruno will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. The family requests no flowers at the service. ROOP -- Vincent Franklin Roop, 50, a resident of New Mexico most of his life, died October 2, 2005. Vincent was born in Albuquerque on June 29, 1955 in Albuquerque, the son of Lawrence Franklin and Frances Irene (Neville) Roop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Vincent was employed as a field engineer in computer systems. He is remembered for his strong faith. His family will miss his wonderful smile and his high energy. He was preceded in death by his parents and in April of this year, and his daughter, Katrina. Vincent is survived by his wife, Cathalina; children, Joseph, Matthew, Steven, Jeremy, Samantha and Christy. He is also survived by his brother, David; sisters, Marilyn Gastellum, Dorothy Jewett, and Nadine Moku; numerous nieces, nephews; and his father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Dolores Serna. Visitation will be 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005; at Vista Verde Mortuary; Sara Rd and Meadowlark Ln. in Rio Rancho with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2005 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd, in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in the Patriots Garden of Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road. A Reception will be held at the home of Richard and Nadine Moku; 324 Asbury Road, NE, Rio Rancho. SHOATS -- Daniel Dean Biagi Shoats and Ellen Jeanne Schippers Shoats died Saturday, October 1, 2005 in an automobile accident. Daniel is survived by his children, Leah Maria Shoats, Russell Thomas Shoats, and Dominic Dean Shoats; brother, Rudolph Thomas Shoats and wife, Jamie Rothmeyer; sisters, Soledad (Sally) Hindi and husband, Joseph, Elizabeth Shoats and husband, Roy Wade, and Marlene Shoats Weaks and husband, Dan Weaks. Ellen is survived by her parents, Norman Arnold Schippers and Beverly Alverson Schippers; children, Leah Maria Shoats, Russell Thomas Shoats, and Dominic Dean Shoats; sister, Angela Ghiassi and husband, Hamid and brother, Burt Schippers and wife, Susan Rehrig. Both are survived by nephews, Joachim Biagi Marjon, Jordan and Brandon Ghiassi, Evan Weaks and Matthew Wade; nieces, Jessie Wade and Isabella Maria Weaks; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held Monday, October 10, 2005, 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church. VAN WYK -- Joseph William Van Wyk, age 82, of Albuquerque, went to be with his Lord Monday, October 3, 2005. Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life he had been active in his church and while in Midland, MI, he helped organize the Midland Christian School. In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling and outdoor activities with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Teri); daughter, Beverly and fiance, Alan Gross; son, Joe; and daughter, Donna Haynes and husband, Stan; grandsons, Joshua, Christopher, and Eric; and granddaughter, Lanay; brothers, William and Earl. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley and Lanae in 1977. WARREN -- Thomas Payne Warren, 101, passed away on September 17, 2005. Tom was born in Grapeland, TX on September 15, 1904, the eighth child of Fletcher A. and Rose Ann (Little) Warren. He served his country during WWII, achieving the rank of sergeant in the US Army Air Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations. Tom moved to New Mexico in 1945, where he married Nola Tidwell. She preceded him in death in April, 1970. He later married Jewel Deatherage-Church, who also preceded him in death in August, 1983. Tom worked for Leonard Motors in Albuquerque for many years. He has been a resident at Camino Retirement Home for the past several years. He is survived by a step-son, Jim Church; step-granddaughter, Pamela Walsh, both of Albuquerque; nephew, William O. Williams of Pittsburg, PA; other nieces and nephews; numerous other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren that this kind and gentle man regarded as his own. WRIGHT -- Shannon Marie Wright, age 75, passed away (gone fishing) on Sunday, October 2, 2005, in the company of her family. She was loved so much by so many. Shannon was born on March 15, 1930 in Toledo, OH to Walter and Mildred Rollf. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and one brother. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Genson, Cherie Coon; son, John Dorcas; and two brothers, Leonard and Harvey Rollf. She was the greatest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could have ever asked for. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and co-workers at the Montebello.
