ALLEN -- Ben H. Allen, age 83, beloved husband father, grandfather, and brother, was gently and lovingly wrapped in the arms of the Lord and taken to his Eternal home, Tuesday, September 20, 2005. Ben was born in Tifton, GA, and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was a member of the Northdale Baptist Church in Albuquerque; and a member of the American Legion Pipefitter, Local #72 in Atlanta, GA. Ben was a proud Veteran, who served his country during World War II. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret A. Allen of the family home; his son, W.M. (Bill) Hartley and wife, Diana of Rio Rancho; his grandchildren, William M. Hartley and wife, Melissa, Stacey Perez; great-grandchildren, William Hartley, III, Samantha Hartley, and Marshall Perez. Also surviving are a brother, Hugh Allen and wife, Juanita of Albany, GA; nephew, Steve Allen and wife, Joy; and other beloved family members and friends. Ben will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. A Memorial Service will be conducted Tuesday , September 27, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the Northdale Baptist Church. ARMIJO -- Mack Armijo, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend died Tuesday, September 20, 2005. He was born Sunday, January 2, 1915 in Reserve, NM. Mack is survived by his sons, Richard Armijo and wife, Rosie, Leo (Larry) Armijo and wife, Anna; grandchildren, Eric Armijo and wife, Becky, Renee Hoover and husband, Scott, Michael Armijo, Debra Ortega and husband, Jerry, Lisa Armijo, Joe Ruiz and wife, Tami, Vivian Ruiz, Irene Ruiz, and Franky Ruiz; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eufilia Armijo; parents, Espiridion and Francisca Armijo; brothers, Fidel Armijo, Fermin Armijo, Joe Armijo and Domingo Armijo. If there is one word to describe Mack, it would be strong, strong minded, strong bodied, strong spirited and strong willed. His strength will be truly missed. BEHNKEN -- John W. Behnken, Jr., was born October 25, 1917 in Houston, Texas, the son of Rev. and Mrs. John W. Behnken, and entered into eternal life on September 21, 2005. Jay, as he liked to be called by family and friends, graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1940 and served as pastor at churches in Eola and Houston, TX and Hickory, NC. In 1943 Jay began a long career as a military chaplain, first in the US Army Air Force and later in the US Air Force with assignments in Korea, Germany, and the Philippines, as well as numerous bases in the U. S. He retired from active duty as a Colonel at Kirtland AFB in 1977. Jay is survived by a daughter, Jayne Kuehner, and husband, Greg of Dayton, OH; son, Jim Behnken, and wife, Annalisa of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kathryn Chase and husband, Brian, John Kuehner, and Jack and Julianne Behnken; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Laura, Caroline and Eleanor Chase; brother, Ken Behnken of Reno, NV; sisters, Lois Roehrs of Ft. Wayne, IN and Delle Schmelder of St. Charles, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn Knippa Behnken; two infant children, Carol Marie and John William, III; brothers, Victor, Donald and Lloyd Behnken; and a sister, Ruth Droegemueller Kroning. CARBAJAL -- Phyllis E. Mrs. Phyllis E. Carbajal, 79, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 22, 2005. Mrs. Carbajal is survived by her daughter, Amanda Ruiz; one brother, George Beckham and wife, Marjorie; four grandchildren, Edward Armijo, Arthur Ruiz Jr., Fabian Ruiz and wife, Crystal and Bridgette Ruiz; six great grandchildren, Elias, Angelo, Nathaniel, Giselle, Angel and Robin. Mrs. Carbajal was preceded in death by her husband, Richardo Carbajal and a brother, Jack Beckham. Mrs. Carbajal was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW with a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. by Deacon Sandy Hall. CRAFT -- HOLLY MATEY CRAFT 1950 - 2005 Holly Matey Craft, of Ithaca, NY died suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2005, while on a cruising vacation in Maine with her husband. Holly was the beloved daughter of Marion and Douglas Matey of Albuquerque and cherished wife of Dr. Harold Craft who recently retired as Cornell University Vice-President with wonderful plans for a happy future for both. Holly received her B.A. degree in Art History from the University of New Mexico where she also served as a Curator Fellow at the Tamarind Institute. She later enrolled in Cornell University's MA/PhD program in the History of Art and Archeology and participated as a field archeologist at the Cornell/Harvard/Berkeley excavation in Sardis, Turkey. Upon her return to Ithaca, she took employment at Cornell where, in time, she met and married Harold Craft. Shortly after, Holly enrolled in the MA program in Environmental Arts and Textile Design at Syracuse University and simultaneously founded Talisman Designs, her business that created art-to-wear garments of unique and extraordinary design. Holly was a graceful, cheerful, optimistic spirit, an adventurous and affectionate person who cared deeply for others. She was extraordinary in her ability to see the bright side and to lift the spirits of those around her. Holly was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Matey. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Harold (Hal) Craft; her parents, Douglas and Marion Matey; brother, Douglas Matey, Jr. and wife, Kathleen; brother, David Matey and wife, Dori; sister-in-law and her spouse, Patti (Craft) and Robert Booraem; step-sons and their spouses, Adam and Susan (Hansen) Craft, and David and Amanda (O'Brien) Craft; four granddaughters, Anna, Karina, Celia, and Helen Craft, in whom she delighted constantly; and all her uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. DALBEY -- Hortense Black "Mimi" Dalbey passed away quietly on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Good Samaritan Village. She was 90 years old, born in the mining town of Dawson, NM. A long time resident of Albuquerque, she graduated from Albuquerque High School and earned a nursing degree from Regina School of Nursing. Hortense was active in Hilltop Women's Golf Association and Albuquerque Country Club Women's Golf Association. She was also a member of Albuquerque Rose and Garden Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Dalbey and brothers, Harmon, Leo, Loren and Bill Black. Hortense is survived by her daughters, Carolyn "Pat" Findley, Barbara Buckman and Rebecca Cox; five great grandchildren, Kaylee and Lindsey Findley, Mason and Conner Buckman and Camden Cox; sister, Nellie Crater of Albuquerque and nephews, Tim Crater, Jim and Bruce Black. DUNLAP -- Marjorie Ruth Stuart Dunlap, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, joined her soul mate and husband of 59 years who passed away June 25, 2005, on September 19, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Dunlap Beitler and husband, Rick; son, Carl Stuart Dunlap and Debbie Reynolds, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Taralyn Beitler Amen and husband, Darrel of Dallas, Becca Beitler and Brad Beitler of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Luke, Lawson, and Lynlee Amen of Dallas, sister, Lizette Hanson of Utah, brothers-in-law, Clyde Dunlap and wife, Doris and Roy Dunlap, Albuquerque. Marjorie was born on January 25, 1924 in Ogden, UT to David C. and Emily Mumford Stuart. She was the youngest of eight children. After WWII, Marjorie met Carl on a blind date. Three months later they were married and she moved to Albuquerque to raise their family. Together, in 1946, Marjorie and Carl established The Man's Hat Shop in downtown Albuquerque where their son Stuart still carrying on the family tradition. Marjorie was a gifted pianist and organist and played for many years at her wards at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. FRANKLIN -- JIMMY MARSHALL FRANKLIN, legendary airshow pilot and treasured father, brother, uncle, and friend performed his final earthly airshow on Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He and close friend and airshow associate, Bobby Younkin, died in a midair collision of their aircrafts. Jimmy was born to Oliver Gene "Zip" and Valerie Jones Franklin on May 16, 1948 in Lovington, NM. He learned to fly while sitting on his dad's lap, helping in the family ranching and aviation businesses. He soloed at age 12, taught himself aerobatics, and at 19 began a 38-year world-renowned career---Franklin Air Show. Jimmy faced a potentially career-ending heart condition seven years ago, but health and career were fully restored with the help of world-class surgeon, friend, and fellow airshow performer---Dr. Raymond Vetsch, Freeman Heart Institute, a heart-valve donor, and God. The Franklins will be forever thankful. Jimmy is survived by Kyle Franklin---beloved son and able business partner, fellow airshow performer and wing-walker; devoted sister, Terry Franklin; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Jana White Franklin; nephew, Soren; and niece, Mariah Sky Franklin; as well as innumerable friends and fans. GRESS -- Louis Adam Gress, age 85, died peacefully after an extended illness, in Sierra Vista, AZ, on September 5, 2005. Born in Jasper, IN, on April 11, 1920, Louie lived an active adventurous life, beginning with his Army induction at Fort Bennington, IN, in 1943. His distinguished military record included World War II service both in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the European Front. He was in the 82nd Airborne, Company C, 193rd Infantry where he made many combat jumps. He lived through the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded in action in Belgium. He received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and other medals. Louie was an architect-builder, working for many years at the University of New Mexico. His skill in construction was well known by colleagues and friends alike. Married in 1943 in Muskogee County, OK, he and his wife, Lorene celebrated 58 years of marriage until her death in 2001. After retirement, they spent many years together traveling the U.S. and living in Mexico. Louie is survived by his stepson, Billy Tippit, and his wife, Lucretia, of Albuquerque; nieces, Jeannine and Julie Melchoir of Indiana, Sue Merriman and several other nieces of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Gress; his brother, Francis; his sister, Eileen; and wife, Lorene. Services were held at the New Veterans Cemetery, in Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, AZ.

GRIFFIN -- Carl D. 46, died suddenly September 21, 2005. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, he is survived by his loving mother, Rosalie F. McKinney of Tijeras; long-time beloved companion, Jeanie Leeds and their dog, Pebbles; his brother,James Griffin and wife Lorna of New Jersey; five sisters, Kim Shockley, Lori Griffin, Pam Foote, Cynthia Montoya and Tracy Griffin, all of Albuquerque; twelve nieces and nephews; two great nephews; three step-children, Tommy, Michael Jay, Victoria and seven step-grandchildren. HARPER -- Martha Frances, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2005. She was born to David M. and Theora Bamie Lilly on March 7, 1913 in Daniels, WVA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Perry R. Harper Sr. who passed away in 1968; her children, Ella Susan, Thomas Earl; and twin sister, Joyce Maxine Harper; brothers, David B. HART -- Mary Sumner Hart, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Thursday, September 22, 2005. LARA -- Joe H. Lara went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2005 at the age of 86. He was born on October 22, 1918 in El Paso, TX. LEACH -- H. Carolyn Leach passed away on September 21, 2005 after 12 years of living with ovarian cancer. Carolyn, 75, and her loving husband, Doyce, have lived in Albuquerque since 1983. Carolyn will be deeply missed by her family: Brian (USN, Retired) and Deborah Leach; the Revs. Shannon and JoAnn Leach; Anne and Paul Kundtz; and Stewart and Lea Leach. Tom, Andrew, Matt, Molly, Christopher, and Patrick will also miss their Grandma. Born on July 8, 1930 in Chicago, IL, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Brig. General Glen C. McBride and Winifred S. McBride. Carolyn attended the University of Missouri where she was involved in the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and where she met Doyce, a Delta Upsilon. In 1952, Doyce and Carolyn married in Dallas, TX. The couple spent the next 19 years living in California, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nebraska. She and Doyce moved to Albuquerque in 1983. Carolyn was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and Natural History. She enjoyed her affiliation with Chapter AA of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Tri Delta Sorority. She and Doyce were members of the Albuquerque Country Club and she was honored to be a member of the Albuquerque Old Glass and Tuesday Literary Club. Carolyn and Doyce belong to The Cathedral Church of St. John where she was a Lay Minister and former Director of the Altar Guild. Carolyn's Memorial Service will be held at St. John's on September 29, 2005 at 3 p.m., immediately followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Cathedral Altar Guild or to the Albuquerque Museum Foundation.

PAWLEY -- Margaret Lucile (Marcile) Pawley, 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 7, 2005. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Pawley. She is survived by her children, Tom Pawley, and wife, Mary, of Colville WA; Janet Pawley of Albuquerque; Christopher Pawley and wife, Sara, of Las Cruces, NM: grandchildren, Scott Pawley, Dale Pawley, Kathleen Pawley; sisters, Carol Downing and Frances Ries; brothers, Gene Hutchins, Louis Hutchins, and Shad Hutchins. Marcile was born in West Portal Colorado, November 16, 1925. She attended high school in Cody, Wyoming, and moved to Albuquerque as a newlywed, in 1948. She had a gift for learning, and although she never attended college, was well versed in literature, poetry, music and art. Her love of nature and the outdoors greatly inspired her children, who have many fond memories of hiking and camping trips. Marcile was a very unique person, and she will be lovingly remembered. They moved to New Mexico in 1986. Kalah and Eric enjoyed traveling all over the world while still enjoying their mountain home in the Sandias with their two dogs. Joe was a true sports fanatic and loved camping and fishing. He was also known to be an avid debater to those he came into contact with. She was born in Grove, OK and attended Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, KS where she met her husband, John. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Indian Public Health Service in Phoenix, AZ for a number of years. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed church, art, cooking and traveling. She pursued her love for painting by attending many art classes and winning many awards. She was very proud of the artwork she sold. She often volunteered her time to help others and had many devoted friends that loved her dearly. Thelma was also a member of Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Brenda Peters and husband, Michael of Tucson, AZ; Beverly Berch and husband, Gordon of Keller, TX; David Vale and wife, Lisa of Kennesaw, GA, and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Vale is also survived by five sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe and grandchild, Rachel. VALENCIA -- Michael Anthony Valencia, age 32. Our "Mikey," single dad, son, brother, godfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 22, 2005. He was born on November 29, 1972. He is survived by the pride and joy of his life, his daughters, Nica Mikayla and Mia Marissa Valencia and Angelique Zamora; his mom, Gloria M. Valencia; his sister, Luanne "Lulu" Trevizo; brothers, Jelal K. Babaa and Leo O. Miniz; his godson and great nephew, Jonathan T. Pinkney; nephews and nieces, Jesus, Guillermo and Luana Miera, Billy Dominguez, Mohammed, Daniel and Victoria Babaa and, great niece, Emma Miranda Mae Pinkney. He is also survived by his uncles, Jesus Valencia, Tinnie and Ann Mae Valencia, Daniel Valencia, Laurence Valencia, Frank Valencia and Harold Valencia; his aunts, Sue Shively and Isabel Griego; his many cousins and other extended family; his mother-in-law, Josie Martinez and in-laws, the Lucero and Martinez families, and just as important, so many friends that to list them all would take an entire newspaper. Everyone who knew Mike was very aware that his daughters were the pride and joy of his life. Mike's friends have been so moved by his love for them, they will honor him by establishing college funds for them. Additional information in this regard will be made available as soon as possible. An open casket and visitation will be held on Wednesday at Garcia Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A short service will take place on Friday also at Garcia Mortuary at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment of his cremated remains at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where he will be buried with his brother, John, in the Rose Garden. VAN STEENIS -- Herman Van Steenis, 89, born April 21, 1916, son of John and Kate Van Steenis, passed on to Heaven and his final resting place Thursday, September 22, 2005. He was married to Earlene Ingram Van Steenis, who preceded him in death on January 30, 1997. Loving father to Patricia Mills and husband, Robert; son, William Van Steenis and wife, Barbara; grandfather to four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Van Steenis was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. He owned Van Steenis Automotive in Albuquerque for many years and was a member of Highland Baptist Church since 1951. For the last few years, he has lived in Huntington Beach, CA with his daughter and son-in-law. Mr. Van Steenis was one of the good guys in a white hat and will be welcomed into loving arms by his wife, Earlene and our Savior, Jesus Christ, what a grand reunion.
