ARMIJO -- Richard E. Armijo, Sr., 67, of Moriarty, NM, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005 in Albuquerque, NM. Richard was born December 1, 1937 in Encino, NM to Carlos and Lucy (Chavez) Armijo. He married Eliria Maez in Cebolla, NM on June 18, 1960. Richard was a successful business owner for over 30 years, and had worked for the City of Moriarty before retiring. He served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic. Richard took pride in raising his family and keeping them close to each other and stressed the importance of giving our lives to the Lord. Besides loving the Lord with all his heart, he loved and cherished his wife, best friend, and partner, Eliria. Richard is survived by his wife, Eliria; sons, Richard E. Armijo, Jr. and his wife, Susie, Jerome Armijo and his wife, Marnie, and Carlos Armijo and his wife, Lisa; daughters, Helen (Karen) Alarid and her husband, Carl, and Carol Hernandez and her husband, Carlo all of Moriarty, NM; brothers, Herman Armijo and his wife, Mary Ann, and Jerry Armijo and his wife, Shirley all of Wagon Wheel, NM; sisters, Jane Lovato of Wagon Wheel, NM, Daisy Maldonado and her husband, Hermino of Albuquerque, NM, and Corrine Page and her husband, Arthur of Moriarty, NM; brother-in-law, Abel Lueras of Los Chavez, NM; and grandchildren, Jerome, Jr., Mel, Rickie, Jolynn, Emily, Carlynn, Charlie, Carlyse, and one on the way. His parents, Carlos and Lucy Armijo, and sister, Sally Lueras preceded him in death. BENNETT -- Polly Hummel Bennett (Mrs. George S.) died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2005. She was born to Miriam and Edgar Carroll Hummel on September 7, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Marlborough School for Girls in Los Angeles and The University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in Drama and English. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was active until her death. She was also a lifelong member of the Junior League. Polly married George S. Bennett Jr. in 1945. George preceded Polly in death in May of 2003. She is survived by her children: Margaret Lewis of Salt Lake City; Barbara Ritchie of Denver; Mary Anderson of Albuquerque; George Bennett III of Kailua-Kona, and Donald Bennett of Midland. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Cynthia Lewis of Salt Lake City, Kelly McKane and Peter Hyer of San Francisco, Meghan and Jessica Anderson of Albuquerque, Benjamin Bennett of New York City, Samuel and Jesse Bennett of Kailua-Kona, and Brent and Belinda Bennett of Midland; as well as two great-grandchildren: Michael and Luke McKane of San Francisco. George and Polly had an illustrious career in the Navy, which included a nine-year post in Hawaii while George served as a submarine commander. She moved to Albuquerque with her family in 1962, and has been a resident and staunch supporter of the community and various organizations ever since. Over the years she was active in the Ko Shari Garden Club, The Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs, The Old Glass Club, The Junior League of Albuquerque, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni; and was currently serving on the board of directors of the Woodmark Residents Council and the Knife and Fork Club. She was a pillar of the St. Mark's on the Mesa Altar Guild. She and George were very active in the Albuquerque Tennis Club and Tanoan Country Club, where they enjoyed tennis, golf, and bridge with their many, many friends. Polly will always be remembered as a friend to all she met. Young and old will remember Polly as one who was always full of support and enthusiasm, and all appreciated her contagious positive attitude. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl. NE. CANDELARIA -- Feliciana "Mary" Candelaria, 82, joined her beloved husband "Jerry" on August 9, 2005. She was born on February 28, 1923 in San Marcial, NM to Augustina and Leandro Garcia. She was one of eight children, and as a young child, she and her family moved to Southeast Albuquerque. In the mid 40s, Mary met her soul mate, Jerry, and they were married and had two daughters, Gloria and Shirley. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, poker, slot machines, and spending time with their family. Her beloved Jerry preceded her in death in 1991. She is also predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Procopio, Benny, Libra, and John Garcia; her sisters, Adelina Vivian and Tommie Garcia. She is survived by her girls, Gloria Candelaria and husband, Byron Congleton, and Shirley Sturtcman and husband, Russ; three granddaughters, Krista Mireles and husband, Jose, Michele Lucero and husband, Javier, and Jill Congleton. She was blessed with one great-grandson, Lucas Anthony Lucero. Other survivors include her brother, Vicente Garcia; niece, Becky Garcia; and many family members and friends whom she loved. Her life will be celebrated in a Rosary Service on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. DEMERS -- Henry Demers (Papa Bear), 77 of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2005. Born in Dracut, MA, he lived in Albuquerque from 1965 - 1988. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He moved to Phoenix in 1988 and was a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Henry was a contractor, loving husband and a great dad. He is survived by his daughters, Connie Miller and Colette Martin; son-in-law, Jim Miller; son, Marc Demers; brothers, Father Raymond Demers, Maurice Demers and Marcel Demers; grandsons, Christopher and Ryan Martin; and granddaughter, Crystal Shipp of Albuquerque. A visitation and Rosary Services was held on Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. FULMER -- Joe D. Fulmer, 95, passed away at a local hospital on August 8, 2005. Mr. Fulmer was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie and daughter, Modene. He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, June Marie Fulmer; sons, Joe Fulmer and wife, Erin, and James Fulmer and wife, Leticia; and by eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Joe came to Albuquerque in 1952, he was a deacon at Crestview Baptist Church for 50 years. Joe retired from Sandia National Labs in 1972 as a carpenter. Joe was a master gardener throughout his life and noted for his sweet corn. In addition to his gardening Joe enjoyed wood working. KERNS -- Billy Glenn Kerns, 80, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Reba; daughters, Malinda Vallani and husband, Rocco of Colorado Springs, CO, Glennette DuTertre of Sanford, FL, Peggy DeShon of Sanford, FL; sons, William E. Kerns and wife, Rosa of Costa Rica, Steve L. Gammon and wife, Kim of Albuquerque, and Matthew A. Kerns of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Leta Whitehead of Albuquerque; and many other relatives and friends. Billy was born on March 3, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO to Harry and Alberta DeShon Kerns. He served in the United States Army during WWII receiving four Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Billy was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. LUCERO -- Noel Dean Lucero, 47, a resident of Colorado and New Mexico, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2005. Noel was born January 10, 1958 in Leadville, CO. He had been in construction before he died. Noel was a good person and was honest and generous. He was a car enthusiast and a great handyman. Noel is survived by his father, Juan Amadeo Lucero of El Llano de San Juan Nepomuceno, NM; his mother, Maria Lourden Smithson of Albuquerque; two brothers, Stanley Andres Lucero of Madera, CA, and Bert Marbin Lucero of Albuquerque, NM; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; eight nieces and nephews, Mariano, Nora, Juan Miguel, Pedro, Nicky, Paul Allen, Diego Shiva, and Jeremiah Krisada. MOENY -- Christine E. (Betty) Moeny, age 85. Betty Moeny died August 6, 2005 under hospice care at the home of her son, Jim Moeny, in Cottonwood, AZ. She was born October 22, 1919 in Hooper, CO to Billy and Ellen Wilson. She married William C. Moeny in 1940 and they had four children. Her first teaching assignment, after graduating from Adams State College, was in Avondale, CO. A lifelong educator, she retired as Professor of Library Science from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. She lived in Albuquerque, NM for the last fifteen years. Betty loved to read and traveled extensively, frequently visiting friends and family. She was a member of Eastern Star and was a PEO Golden Girl. She was a very active member of Grace Church. A happy, outgoing person, Betty never met anyone who was not a friend. Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Bill (Mary Lee) Moeny of Albuquerque, NM, Jim Moeny of Cottonwood, AZ, Susan (Dave) Hawkins of Valley Center, CA, and Nancy Nash of Alamosa, CO. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Moeny of College Station, PA, Susanna (Michael) Hinkle, Phoenix, AZ, Stephen (Echo) Moeny of Albuquerque, NM, Patty McGuire of Phoenix, AZ, Amanda McGuire of Taichung, Taiwan; and one great-grandson, Michael William Moeny, of College Station, PA. SHELTON -- Billy R. Shelton (Bill) went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 6, 2005. Bill was born in Athens, TX on January 3, 1933, raised in Altus, OK, and was a long-term resident of Albuquerque. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosalie K.; a son, John Stephen Shelton of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Nelda Ducharme of Deltona, FL; and brother, Mickey Shelton of Altus, OK. He is also survived by four nephews and three nieces. Bill retired from the Air Force after 21 years; and from French Mortuary after 20 years. Bill was a longtime active member of Hoffmantown Church. He has served as a Deacon, Bible Class Teacher for over 35 years; as well as a Trustee of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1982-1992. Bill was devoted to his Lord, loved his family, and enjoyed RVing, musical events, reading; as well as being as avid bible student for over 45 years. Services will be held Friday, August 12, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Rd. NE, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. SKOLNICK -- Saul Skolnick, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 10, 1921 in Manhattan, NY. He came to New Mexico in 1948 and worked for many years at Los Alamos, retiring from Sandia Labs in 1986. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna; a son, Russell; and a brother, Jack. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; a son, Julian and companion, Irma; step-children, Steve Edwards and wife, Heidi, Timothy Edwards, and Barbara Edwards; four step-grandchildren, Jack, Kendra, Ashley, and Gabriel Edwards; two step-great-grandchildren, Dakota and Kylie. Also surviving, sister, Lillie and brother-in-law, Murray Beltzer of Flushing, NY; sister-in-law, Hortense Skolnick of New York; and cousin, Thelma Elkins of Kensington, CA. TAYLOR -- Leif Taylor, age 51 and a lifelong New Mexico resident, left this life on August 5, 2005. He was born on July 8, 1954 in Albuquerque. He was the owner and operator of the Art Framing Center in Albuquerque for the past 20 years. His sisters, Mary Ann and Lisa Titzl both preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Monica Taylor; son, Richard "RJ", age 15; and a daughter, Crista, age 10. Also surviving Leif are his mother, Pauline Peterson and father, Richard Titzl, both of Albuquerque; three brothers, Karl Titzl, Tom Titzl of Albuquerque and Rick Titzl along with Karen Beck of Edgewood; as well as a sister, Barbara and her husband, Rudy Fajardo. Leif had two nephews, Daniel and Evan Fajardo; and three nieces, Vanessa, Janel, and Angela Titzl. An aunt and uncle, Trueheart and Robert Titzl of Louisville, KY, also survive him. Leif was a member of the Lobo Club and was a dedicated Lobo fan. He was an avid golfer and bowler and played softball. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends and will be in our hearts and memory forever. WALKER -- Pauline (Polly) Marie Wernicke Walker, born November 7, 1915, in Columbus, OH, passed away early Sunday August 7, 2005, in Albuquerque, supported by loving caregivers, family, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, the Honorable E S Johnny Walker, former Congressman from the State of New Mexico (1965-1969) who died in October, 2000. She is survived by her son, Stephen Michael and his significant other, Gari Fails; her daughter, Janet Mary and her husband, Richard H. Steele; grandsons, John Walker and his wife, Stacey Walker, Andrew Steele, and David Steele; and granddaughter, Amy Holder and her husband, John Holder; and by her great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Otto Frank Wernicke and Anna Marie Dober Wernicke; and by her brother, Karl Wernicke; and her two sisters, Marie Hecker and Elsie Wolz. Before her career as a devoted wife and mother she was an outstanding secretary working in Washington, DC, for her Congressman from Ohio and later the National Archives. In Albuquerque she was on the staff of Clyde Tingley when he was Mayor of Albuquerque. She was a multifaceted person who had many interests which included her husband's political career, her garden, her family, and her cats. She was truly a member of the "Greatest Generation." The family would like to especially thank her caregivers and Presbyterian Hospice staff who cared for her during the last months of her life. Services will be held at Saint Thomas of Canterbury, Episcopal Church, 425 University Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, with the Reverend Carole McGowan Officiating on Thursday, August 11, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. Interment of remains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you honor Polly with donations to The Easter Seal Society, 2819 Richmond Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107, and Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Pl. WELLS -- BARBARA LAMON WELLS, age 77, the Daughter of Estel Conrad Lamon and Martha Jane Ballard was born on February 17, 1928 in La Grange, GA and entered eternal life quietly in Chaparral, NM on Sunday, August 7, 2005. Barbara and her husband, Don G. Wells, USAF retired in Albuquerque in the late 1970s. Barbara is survived by her brother, E.C. Lamon of New Braunfels, TX and his wife, Regine who is also a fond friend. Mrs. Wells is also survived by her four children: Martha Laura and her husband, Danny L. Rhodes of Chaparral, NM; Timothy Leslie Wells, Michael Lewis Wells and his wife, Valerie, both of Kentucky; and Melissa Leigh and her husband, Michael Mercer of Everett, WA. Mrs. Wells is the proud grandmother of Anthony V. Bennett, USAF currently stationed in Korea and his wife, Eugenia of Romania who are also the proud parents of Mrs. Wells' great grandchild, Justin A. Bennett; Laura Leigh Shrespha and her husband, Naraj of Nepal who now reside in Waltham, MA; Devon Siokahn Mercer and Chandan Michael Mercer of Everett, WA. Mrs. Wells is also survived by her "partner in crime" Callie, the poodle; and six cats who prefer to remain low profile. Mrs. Wells was an avid collector of movies, music, curios, and anything Star Trek. Although hampered by physical disabilities in life, Barbara was a soul whose presence could fill a room and she was a force to be reckoned with. Visitation for Mrs. Wells will be held Monday, August 15, 2005 beginning at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Boulevard NE in Albuquerque where the Funeral Service is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in Santa Fe National Cemetery with The Reverend Peter Schoew officiating. ZACHARY -- Dick Zachary, age 57, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 9, 2005. Dick owned Zachary's and operated that business for many years. He was a loving and caring role model to many and was known for his great hugs, beaming smile and his endless generosity. Dick will be greatly missed by every life that he touched. He is survived by his wife, Chris; son, Chad and family; daughters, Laura, Audrey and their families; step-children, David, Bret, Andrea and their families; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Jimmy, David and Phillip; sisters, Ruth & Carol. ZANIN -- Dean Zanin, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Saturday, August 8, 2005. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, John O. Zanin of Albuquerque; children, Sonja Elliott and husband, Steven of Duncan, OK, John P. Zanin and Mark J. Zanin, both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jeremiah Zanin and wife, Betsy of Champaine, IL and Justin Zanin of Albuquerque; brothers, Freddy Downing and wife, Peggy of California, Royce Downing of Arizona; sisters, Wanda Moore of Amarillo, TX and Darlene Baker and husband, Jack of Arizona.
