ACOSTA -- Lidia Acosta, 64, returned to Christ on Sunday, December 5, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Jesus Acosta; children, Lydia Ramirez and husband, Yurgen, Jesus Acosta, and wife, Lourdes, Veronica Casas and husband, Manuel, Maria Castillo and husband, Pascual, Rosa Vasquez and husband, Carlos, Raul Acosta, Sara Cante and husband, Huroaldo, Jacobo Acosta and wife, Rosa, and Zoar Palma and husband, Ruben; grandchildren, Isai, Areli, Deborah, Anita, Jesse, Cathleene, Tamara, Matthew, Gabriela, Carlos, Jeremias, Joshua, Sara, Joseph, Adrianne, Nichole, Kate and Ruben; and five great-grandchildren. Lidia was a member of The Church of God Evangelic, where she was also the Minister's wife and touched many, many lives. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. APODACA -- Mariana P. Apodaca died December 3, 2004; she was 92 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband, Felix Apodaca and her son, Billy Apodaca. She is survived by her sister, Martha Barela and husband, Max; her nieces, Mary R. Pino and Gloria E. Dirks; and many other nieces and nephews. BLACKBURN -- Keith Blackburn, 80, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. He was born in Alex, Oklahoma, Thursday, March 20 1924 to Thomas and Ethel Davenport Blackburn. The family moved to Friona, TX in 1929 where he attended school. He married Betty Jean Mayfield on November 16, 1942. Keith served in the U. S. Marine Corp in the Okinawa and China Theaters. After several different occupations, Keith and Jean moved to Albuquerque where they owned and operated Blackburn's Ladies Ready to Wear for many years. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Jill and husband, Dr. Ben Anella; grandsons, Jimmy, Jason and Justin; granddaughter, Jennifer, all of San Diego, CA; also numerous nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ethel Blackburn; three brothers, Claude, John and Dean Blackburn. CARISTO -- Nicholas Jr. Mr. Nicholas Caristo Jr., 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 3, 2004. Mr. Caristo is the beloved husband to Mrs. Josephine Caristo, married for 54 years. Mr. Caristo is also survived by his loving children, Nick Caristo and wife, Ellen, Domenic Caristo and wife, Monica, Anna Marie Roybal and husband, Paul, Madeline Frostenson and husband, Paul. Mr. Caristo is also survived by one sister, Josephine Contervo; two brothers, Domenic Caristo and wife, Marge and Gabe Caristo; seven grandchildren; Nicole, Natalie, Josh, Lisa, Jo, Neal and Madeline; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Raquel, Jonathan, Marina, Lijah; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Caristo was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Bernadette and two brothers. Mr. Caristo was a member of the Catholic Church. CARRASCO -- Frank J. Carrasco was called home by Our Heavenly Father on December 2, 2004. He was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Great-Great-Grandfather. Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Manuel Carrasco. He will be remembered by his children: Jenny Sprunk-Zwiefelhofer and husband Phil of Grants, NM, Elfie Mirabal and fiance Perry Chase of Albuquerque, NM, Alice Calanchi and husband Julian of Barstow, TX, Frank Carrasco Jr. and wife Janine of Mesa AZ, Stephen Carrasco of Phoenix, AZ and Paul Carrasco of St. Louis, MO. Frank loved all of his 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Frank lived for many years in Phoenix, AZ and was a longtime resident of Grants, NM. Besides the love for his family, his many joys in life were his past profession as a building Contractor and his love for Real Estate Sales. He loved life and sharing stories of his many travels around the world. He especially loved talking about his strong faith and Love for the Lord. One of his many sayings was "Thank the Lord for the day" and "take care of one each other." Those of us who knew Frank are blessed as he truly touched the hearts of many. Although he is gone now and will be missed by all, we know he is in heaven and lives on in our hearts. CHELF -- George E. Chelf, Jr., 84, died on Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Albuquerque where he has lived for the past 54 years. COX -- Virgil Dee Cox Sr., 93, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 5th, 2004, at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital. He was preceded in death by Alice Julia Cox, his wife of 69 years, December 16, 2003, one great-great-granddaughter, Ava Lee Montgomery, of Windsor, England, March 27, 2004. He is survived by his children, Loretta Jones of Albuquerque, NM; Carol Stovall and husband, Bill of Atlanta, GA; Virgil D. Cox, Jr. and wife, Zona of Chandler, AZ; Lynette Garner and husband, Randy, of Los Lunas, NM; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchilren. Virgil was born September 9, 1911 in a country farmhouse in Ben Hur, Limestone County, Texas. He was the second child, one of three boys, born to Alma and Eli Cox. He attended school in a small one room schoolhouse and later Forrest Glade High School where he graduated Valedictorian of his class. He attended college with a major in business. He married Alice Julia Curtis, December 6, 1934 and lived for a time in Texas then moved to Albuquerque in 1958. He owned two successful businesses and retired at the age of 83. He was an active member of Church of Christ and served as an Elder at the Netherwood Park Congregation, Candelaria and Montgomery congregation. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His loving and gentle spirit will be cherished always. Services will be Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. D'AMBROSIO -- Barbara D'Ambrosio, 56, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004, in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was born August 28, 1948 in Rochester, NY and grew up in Albuquerque, NM. Barbara attended Highland High School and received a degree in Education from the University of New Mexico. She moved to Lake Havasu City 25 years ago where she was employed as the registrar at Mohave Community College. Barbara is survived by her mother, Vivian D'Ambrosio and her husband Kenton Ray of Albuquerque; one sister Sheila D'Ambrosio of Scotts Valley, CA; brothers, Jack and Kirk D'Ambrosio of Albuquerque, and Mark State of Sydney, NE; and her dearest friend, Claudio Derevizus of Lake Havasu City. Pastor Mike Moorhead officiated at Barbara's Memorial Service held December 3 at Lake Havasu Baptist Church. Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory handled the burial. DUSTIN -- Harold M. "Dusty" Dustin, age 70, passed away December 4, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Survivors include: wife, Janet; daughters, Shirley Wise and husband Gary, Sharyl Smith-Brown and husband Weldon and Diana Burt; son, Andrew Dustin; six grandchildren, Joey, Amanda, Rebecca, Jason, Amber, and Brandon; two great-grandchildren. Harold was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Interment will be held Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 11:00 am in Santa Fe National Cemetery with a celebration of his life to follow at the Dustin home from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. DYKES -- David A. Dykes "Grandpa" was born July 4, 1927 and passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 3, 2004 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his father, David Abney Dkyes; his mother, Bernice Odell; and his sister, Billy Jean Sparks. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jo; his children, David A. Dykes III and wife, Patty, Debbie Lanford and husband, John and Diane Broadwell and husband, Brad; seven grandchildren, Dawn Apodaca and husband, Jason, Deanne Dykes, David A Dykes IV and wife, Stephanie, Joseph Stuart, Jaime Sanchez and husband, Joshua, Kimberly Dennis and Dee Dennis III; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Chance Apodaca, Charles Gallegos, and David, Brandon and Hannah Dykes. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of IBEW Local 611 for 50 years. He never knew a stranger, was loved by those he touched and through his example, he has shown us all the importance of family, love and devotion. FORD -- Bessie Mae Ford, 98, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1991, and coming from Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2004. Bessie was born August 18, 1906, the daughter of John Henry and Ella Rush in Kansas City, Missouri. She had been a secretary in the insurance business, working for the State Mutual Assurance Company in Kansas City, Missouri for 25 years, retiring at age 65. Bessie was a lifelong member of the Daughters of Isabel, and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Ford; brother, Hugh Rush; and sister, Ella Larson. She is survived by two nephews, Dan Larson of Overland Park, KS and Larry Larson and wife Carol of Rio Rancho, NM; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. HUNTER -- Edith E. Hunter, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2004. She is survived by sons, John Dale Hunter and fiance, Susan Hood, James Dennis Hunter and wife, Sandra and George David Hunter, all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, J.B. PAYTON -- Thomas Flowell Payton, age 87, passed away on December 5, 2004. Flowell was born on August 13, 1917, in Ima, New Mexico. He graduated from New Mexico Junior College in Portales. Flowell also graduated from New Mexico State University in 1940 with a degree in Agriculture. After receiving his degree Flowell begin a teaching career in Roy, NM. Flowell found and married the love of his life, Frances Boulware. They were married for 54 years, until the time of her death. They had one daughter Roxana Lynn Payton. Flowell taught in Roy and Clayton, NM, he later became a High School Principal in Clayton, Farmington and Los Lunas, NM. During his teaching career Flowell encountered many new faces and touched many lives. He will be dearly missed. Flowell is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Boulware Payton; his parents, William H. and Jimmie Kizer Payton; his twin brother, James Lowell Payton; two other brothers, Hoy Payton and Orlan Payton; and his nephew, Otis Orlan Boren. He is the loving father of Roxana L. Payton of Los Lunas, NM; the fond brother of Bill Payton and his wife, Betts of Wickenburg, AZ; the proud uncle of his niece, Constance Robinson of Hobbs, NM and his nephews, Tim Payton of Prescott, AZ, Ron L. Payton of Ft. Worth, TX and Key F. Payton of California. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Romero Funeral Home Chapel. SISNEROS -- Altagracia Grace. Sisneros Matriarch, Altagracia Grace Sisneros passed away early Sunday morning, December 5, 2004 of natural causes at the age of 90, at the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center Hospice with her first born son, Joe M. Sisneros being at her side. She was born July 7, 1914 in Colonias, NM to the home of Carlos B. and Elvira Gallegos Romero. Grace was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Severiano U. Sisneros on December 15, 1978; her mother Elvira Gutierrez; her sister, Catherine Sexton; grandson, Joe M. Sisneros, Jr.; and her great-granddaughter, Mariah J.Sanchez. Grace is survived by her seven children, Joe M. Sisneros; Vera S. Sanchez and husband Phil all of Santa Rosa; Severiano R. Sisneros and wife Fedelia of Moriarty; Zenaida Bridges of Colonias; Hope Sisneros of Arlington, VA; Anthony Sisneros and wife Shirley of Ceder Crest and Tomas A. Sisneros and wife Margie of Albuquerque; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Brother Carlos B. Romero and wife Confe of Colonias and her sister Cecilia "Cyl" Lalla of Las Cruces. Many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Grace was a homemaker and career woman. She was a devout life-long Catholic and member of the St. Rose of Lima Parish, where for many years she served as a lector and commentator at the Spanish Mass. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Guild and served two terms as President of the Guild; she was an active member of PERA in Las Vegas, New Mexico for may years; she served as chairman of the St. Rose of Lima Parish Fiestas for two years; she was the Spanish Editor of the Santa Rosa News; she was co-owner with her daughter Vera of the "Rolling Pin Pastry House" in Santa Rosa; she was a CCD instructor with the St. Rose of Lima Church; Grace was a Tupperware dealer serving Santa Rosa, Tucumcari and Vaughn. She attended school in Albuquerque at San Felipe de Neri Catholic School and attended Santa Rosa High School. Grace love to crochet, knit, quilt, write stories and paint. She would make wooden toys for her children and grandchildren and translated handbooks into spanish. Pallbearers will be Jude Sisneros; William B. Sanchez; Severiano Sisneros III; Dean Rivera; Jeremy Sisneros and Kathy Willmoth. Honorary Pallbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Rosary Services for Grace Sisneros will be held on Tuesday evening December 7, 2004 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 10:00 also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Colonias, NM. STURGILL -- Johnie C. Sturgill, 73, a resident of Sandia Park, died Sunday, December 5, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sue C. Sturgill; son, Bill Sturgill and wife, Monica of Albuquerque; daughters, Sandi Luce and husband, Randy of Edgewood and Laurel Rooks and husband, Paul of Wadsworth, Ohio; grandchildren, April, Heather, Ryan, Stephen, Aaron, Cassie, and Jeffrey Sturgill, Paul, Brandi, Samantha, Chris, Patrick Alex, Caleb, Haley, and Corrie Luce, Laine and Aidan Rooks; brothers, Jack Sturgill and wife, Ressie and Walt Sturgill and wife, Lauretta; and sister, Wave Davis and husband, Ray. Mr. Sturgill was a Korean War Veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at The Foothills, 12504 Candelaria NE, with Pastor Rob Kurz officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery in Barton, NM. WALKER -- Luggie Otero-Walker, 70, beloved sister and sister in Christ, peacefully went to her eternal rest with our Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2004 due to cancer. She was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. There are no words to describe the value placed on her. She was a loving, faithful, magnificent woman of beauty, joy, generousity, gentleness, and kindness. She lived her life as an example of God's love. She left a legacy of compassion, strength, and was loved by everyone. She was an inspiration to others and was a very giving person who never missed an opportunity to help those in need. She was a dear wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many and will be dearly missed by everyone. Luggie was also a very caring person for children. During her last years, she worked with children at the Barcelona Elementary and Adobe Acres Elementery Schools with the Foster Grandparent's Program. Luggie was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur, September 6, 2000; her father, Lalo Otero, January 22, 2004; and her mother, September 1948. She is survived by her brother and sisters, Rosie Otero of Albuquerque, Julia Perea and husband Moises from El Cerro, Elinora Oliver of Austin, TX, Mary Jane Martin and husband Carlos of Albuquerque, Ed Otero of Albuquerque, and Edna Luther and husband Rick of Albuquerque; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends. The Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with the Service at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 9, 2004 in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd.at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Entombment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Albert Lewis, Israel Alvarado, Juan Alvarado, David Rice, Anthony Lewis, and Henaro Apodaca. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adenago Perea, and Paul Chavez. The family of Luggie would like to express a very special thanks to the Univesity Hospital doctors, nurses and aides in the East side Oncology Unit, who cared for her during her illness and for all efforts, compassion, kindness, and generous care during this difficult time.
