BERTETTO -- Richard Michael Bertetto, age 16. Beloved son of Mark and Stacy and brother of Steven. Born May 26, 1988 in Albuquerque, NM, died on August 30, 2004. Ricky was a Sophomore at Cibola High School and an aspiring young computer animator. He will be missed by all his close friends and lifelong companions for his great sense of humor and compassionate friendship. Ricky is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Stacy; brother, Steven Bertetto; grandparents, Jean Travis, Elton Travis, and Verna Bertetto; aunts and uncle, Cathy Bertetto, Suzie Bertetto, Mike Bertetto; and cousin, Jennifer Bertetto. DAWSON -- Cecil Howard Dawson, 49, passed away on August 19, 2004. Cecil was a Sovereign Citizen of the New Mexico state, and a staunch supporter of the United States of America. We will all miss his able assistance in researching legal issues concerning the rights of Citizens, and his willingness to help others to the best of his abilities. DOMINGUEZ -- Mark Francis Dominguez was born January 18, 1971. On August 26, 2004, our beloved son, Mark F. Dominguez, left us to be with the Lord. Mark was taken tragically in a car accident. He had been a Journeyman/Lineman with PNM. Mark loved sports; he loved hunting and participating in the PNM Rodeos. Mark is survived by his loving parents, Ray and Fran Dominguez; his loving brother, Ray Dominguez II; his loving niece and God Daughter, Demerie Dominguez; his loving nephew, Jeremy Dominguez; his loving grandmother, Mary Ann Garcia; his close and very special uncles, aunts, and cousins from Albuquerque; and his close and very special uncles, aunts, and cousins from his birthplace of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by a host of wonderful, close, and special friends. Mark will be greatly missed. Serving as Pallbearers will be Jeremy Dominguez, Nathan Fiske, Maury Varela, Jason Garcia, Adrian Perez, Arthur Villalovos, Tony Dominguez, Jr., and Chucky Giddings. DOUGLASS -- Mr. Harold E. Douglass, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 29, 2004. Mr. Douglass is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Margaret; three daughters, Tammy Douglass, Missie Hess, and Stephanie Martinez and husband, Eugene; two sons, Don Merritt and Dan Douglass; one sister, Debbie Ulmer and husband, Tom; eleven grandchildren, Kaysie, Kortnie, Kristin, Jesea, Lucas, Jacob, Zachary, Spencer, Jeno Diego, Cleriese and Crystine; a close family friend, Will Banes; many brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Mr. Douglass was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Douglass. Mr. Douglass was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. A visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Mr. Roy Rivera. FARANDA -- Jacqueline F. Faranda "Jacque," age 73, and a resident of Bosque Farms for 6 years, passed away August 26, 2004. She died at home, surrounded by her loved ones, following a lengthy illness. Jacque was born in Aberdeen, WA, February 5, 1931. Most of her adult life was spent in California where she married, had two sons, and helped raise her granddaughter. Jacque was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore; and her son, John. Leaving behind those who will mourn her deeply are her son, Russell Gebhardt and wife, Aloysia of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Alicia, Lindsay, Sammy, Leia, Gina and special granddaughter and caregiver, Mara Gebhardt and Adam of the family home; four great-grandchildren, Alanna, Amadeo, Logan, and Andres; other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. FELTER -- Retired Justice Edwin L. Felter died in Colorado Springs on August 29, 2004. Recently of Albuquerque NM, Justice Felter lived in Santa Fe, NM most of his life. He received his law degree from American University School of Law in Washington, D.C. in 1943. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to New Mexico to practice law until he was appointed to the First Judicial District Court Bench in 1970. He served as a District Court Judge throughout the 1970s until Governor Bruce King appointed him to the New Mexico Supreme Court. He retired from the Supreme Court in 1980. After his retirement, the Chief Justice designated him to many special assignments as Judge Pro-Tem. Justice Felter was born in Des Moines, New Mexico on August 24, 1917. He was the son of Alpha William Felter and Mary Mahan Felter. He is survived by his wife, Evangeline M. Felter; and his children, Edwin L. Felter, Jr. and his wife, Yoko Felter, Teresa Felter, Rita Felter, Angela Romero and her husband, Paul A. Romero and John W. Felter and his wife, Venus D. Montoya-Felter. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Thomas Vialpando and his wife, Robin Vialpando, Shane Vialpando, Cynthia and Wayne Beevers, Edwin Allen Felter; and one Great Grandchild, Adrianna Vialpondo. The Felter family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Steven Murk, MD and the staff of Penrose Hospital; especially, Linda Ruyle, RN; Evelyn Lowry, RN; family friend, Frank Gentz; and all the staff of Pikes Peak Hospice who attended to Justice Felter before his death. Justice Felter will lay in State at the Rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol on Thursday September 2, 2004 between the hours of 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. The funeral mass will take place at the Santa Fe Archdioceses Cathedral on Friday, September 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. followed with the Internment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. FORKNER -- Col. Bob L. Forkner, USAF, Ret., 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Forkner; sons, William L. Forkner and wife, Priscilla of Houston, TX and Charles L. Forkner of Albuquerque; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Col. Forkner was born in Hartford City, IN. He attended and graduated from Purdue University. He served in the United States Air Force until his retirement. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and interment of cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HOLMES -- Charles Robert Holmes, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2004. He was born in the small town of Kemmerer, WY on October 11, 1918 and was the sixth and last surviving child of Matilda and Ernest Holmes. Alert to the end, but suffering declining physical health, he died in his sleep in his beloved home in Socorro, NM. He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 55 years. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Bill; Margaret and her three children, Michael, Anna and Lily; and Emily and her husband, Bruce and their two children, Ian and Eric. After graduating from high school, Charles worked for three years in the coal mines in Kemmerer, which remains today a one-industry town. Feeling the call of higher learning, he enrolled in the University of Wyoming only to have his education interrupted by World War II. He moved to Los Angeles, CA and worked for Lockheed Aircraft supporting the intensive manufacturing effort to supply planes. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Force graduating in September from Cadet Training School, Grand Rapids, MI, commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Trained in weather forecasting, he was stationed in England for the duration of the War as a crew member flying missions over the North Atlantic. In 1945 he returned home to court and marry the girl next door, Dorothy Biggane, who had recently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. They were married on a snowy January 12, 1946. Wishing to continue in the field of meteorology, he applied to the University of St. Louis where he received his BS and MS in Geophysics. First born Ernest William (Bill) arrived in 1947. Following graduation in 1949, Charlie and Dorothy moved to Socorro for the first of three stints at New Mexico Tech. He left twice, once for the lure of another job, and again to complete his Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State College. During the moving times, Margaret Ellen was born in 1951 in Socorro and Emily Marie in 1956 in Denver, CO. He returned to Tech and Socorro for good in 1959 to raise his family and pursue a career in atmospheric physics. He concentrated on teaching and research, studying thunderstorms. He was named full professor in 1965 and was appointed Acting President of the college in 1982. After performing the duties of interim president for one year, he returned to teaching and research, the loves of his professional life. He retired in 1988 to walks with his dog Lacy and to many family and travel activities with Dorothy. At his request, private services will be followed by interment in the family plot in Belen, NM. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.

LEYBA -- Jose Manuel (Melo) Leyba, born July 5, 1923 in San Miguel, died August 28, 2004. Born to Guillermo (Willie) Leyba and Agripina Tapia Leyba and raised by (Stepmother) Luz Rivera Leyba, he was a WWII Veteran where he served honorably in Normandy, Central Europe, Northern France, and the Rhineland. Following the war he worked with the joint United States - Mexican hoof and mouth program in Mexico, and then returned to the family ranch at Leyba, San Miguel County, New Mexico. He is survived by his sisters, Rose Valdez, Emily L. Tapia Montgomery, and Pina Ludi; and his nephews and nieces, to whom he was a second father. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish Church in Albuquerque. Internment will follow at the family plot in Leyba. MCCAFFREY -- Elena McCaffrey passed away on August 23, 2004 after a long illness. She is survived by her sister, Darlene Dubicki; and her beloved dog companions, Seneca and Beowulf. MCSWAIN -- Joyce C. McSwain, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1997, and coming to New Mexico from Dallas, TX, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2004. Joyce was born January 8, 1921, the daughter of Steven Kelly and Buela Castleberry, in Texas. She graduated from Texas Womens University in Denton, TX. Joyce was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She loved gardening, especially her roses. Joyce loved and was an avid bird watcher. She was a member of the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church and was extremely devoted to her church. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas, of the family home; one son, Steven McSwain and wife, Brenda of Placitas, NM; and one sister, Edna Rowland of Vernon, TX. PARKER -- Walter Marcus Parker, age 95, passed away on August 29, 2004. He dedicated his life to the education of the young, and his legacy will live on in the lives that he touched. He passionately served as principal of Northeast Elementary in Farmington, NM and resided there for over fifty years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sunshine Adams Parker; and by his children, Loretta Harnsberger and Marcus Parker; grandchild, James Harnsberger; and great-grandchild, Crystal Darling. He is survived by his grandchildren, Dana Bear and husband, David Bear; Sue Harnsberger and her longtime companion, Debbie Brown. PEASE -- Marshall A. Pease, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, August 29, 2004. He is survived by his son Craig Pease and wife Tracy of Aliso Veijo, CA; and their children Marshall, Judd, and Glyn; other children, Jane and John Clarke, Steve and Sharla Haley, Mark and Terry Haley, all of Albuquerque; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Billy Pease of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Haley Pease in 1999. Mr. Pease served in the US Navy and the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a General Manager at Rich Ford for 20 years. SAIZ -- Norma J. Saiz, 41, was born on Saturday, June 29, 1963 and passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2004. Her smile brightened the room. Her laugh was contagious. When she loved you, you definitely knew it. Norma was many things to many people, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend. She lived life like many only dreamed, to the fullest. STAEHLIN -- Alfred Carl Staehlin, 82, passed away among family at the Heart Institute of New Mexico on Saturday evening, August 28, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Dorthella Staehlin; sons, Alan Staehlin of Albuquerque and David Staehlin of Friday Harbor, WA; sister, Marlene Mathis and husband, David; stepchildren, Crest Merrill, Rockney Merrill, Tyla Merrill and Melanie Wycloff, whom all reside near Eagar, AZ; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Amity Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Eagar, AZ. A public viewing will be held the preceding day from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Owen's Funeral Home in Eagar. Al was born and raised in Albuquerque, attended Albuquerque High School and was a part of Albuquerque Plumbing and Heating, established by his grandfather, August Staehlin, in the late 1800s. During high school Al served as president of the ski club-skiing a passion only surpassed by his love of dancing. Al signed up for military service in August of 1942 and proudly served his country during WWII, operating a radio navigation beacon located on Baffin Island in the Artic which provided a homing signal for troop and supply planes making the great circle navigation route to/from Europe in preparation of the invasion of Normandy. After the war, Al went on to become a NM State plumbing inspector and was responsible for ensuring code compliance and for investigating natural gas asphyxiation cases for the next 20 years. After retiring from the state, Al became supervisor of plumbing facilities maintenance at the University of New Mexico for an additional 15 years. Al was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Al moved to Eagar, AZ in 1997 with his wife, Dot where he has since resided. In closing, the family would like to acknowledge and say thank you to the staff of the Heart Institute of New Mexico for the caring, compassion and kindness they provided throughout this most difficult time.

WILLIAMS -- Senora Williams, a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and best friend. Born on March 16, 1949 in Dalgreen, VA, she then moved to Albuquerque where she became a lifelong resident. Senora was a member of God's House Church; her pastor is Bishop Michael Shelby. Senora went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2004. She is survived by her mother, Sarah Virginia Keyes of Pensacola, Florida; one son, Michael Ray Williams of Albuquerque, NM; four daughters, Senora and husband, Vester Smith III, Starr Williams, Michelle Singletary, and Patricia Sena, all of Albuquerque, NM; four brothers, Tommy Keyes, Sammy Keyes, Ronnie Keyes, Terry Keyes; three sisters, Jackie Johns, Sara Harris, and Sandra Williams; 13 grandchildren who were the Pride & Joy of her life, Vester Brandon, Alexis, Elijah Blu, Starr, Andre Jr., Nicole, Mikayla, Savannah, Damian, Kahari, Z'Karie, Ta-Ta, and Alisha. YOUNG -- Charles Alan Young, 54, of Placitas, born in Kalamazoo, MI on December 28, 1949, passed away on August 28, 2004 in a tragic bicycle accident in Colorado. Charlie died while doing what he loved more than anything else in this world. A strong and courageous runner and cyclist, full of spirit, sportsmanship, and compassion, he was a true champion. He was a proud Wolverine and completed his A.B. at U-Mich followed by his LL.B and LL.M. at the University of British Columbia before settling in New Mexico in 1976. A brilliant and energetic lobbyist, husband, and father, he leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Lucy Fox, MD; his daughter (and shining star of his life), Justine Colette Fox-Young; his brother, Jim and sister-in-law, Lisa Young; brother-and sister-in-law, Jim and Meg Fox; and beloved Labrador retrievers, Cosmo, Peaks, and Sidney. We wish we could name all his cherished friends and family here; we love you all and deeply appreciate your support.
