ALTWIES -- James Altwies, 70, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, August 9, 2004, in Phoenix, AZ. Born in Grand Rapids, OH on April 29, 1934, he was raised in Tiffin, OH, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. In 1952 he joined the U.S. Marines for a 3 year tour of duty and returned to Ohio in 1955 to marry the love of his life, Janet Wurm. After graduation from Tiffin University, he enlisted as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He traveled extensively and took his family on many adventures throughout the U.S. and Europe. His military career included tours of duty in Germany, Illinois, Vietnam, Hawaii and New Mexico. While in the military, he obtained his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. After retirement from the USAF, he was employed at Sandia National Laboratories and was subsequently Campaign Manager for U.S. Congressman Steve Schiff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Altwies; and brothers, Charles and Richard. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Phoenix, AZ; and daughters, Julie Altwies, Jolene Altwies, and Jane Altwies; sons-in-law, J. Michael Kavanaugh and Michael Ramirez; grandchildren, Allison and Abraham Ramirez, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Altwies and his wife, Mercedes, of Arizona; sisters, Rosemary Clouse of Florida, Joyce Florence and her husband, Roland; and sister-in-law, Leona Altwies of Ohio; and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Kathleen Klopp, and her husband, Dean, Margaret Warnement, Dorothy Company Carlson, Nancy Warnement and her husband, Richard; and brother-in-law Michael Wurm and his wife, Carolyn. Services for James Altwies will be at 3:00 p.m. on August 13, 2004, at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel in Sun City West, AZ. BRIDWELL -- Mary Frances Bridwell, 81, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2004, following an extended illness. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jim; and is survived by their children, Judith Sanders of Quitman, TX, Ginger Huntley of the family home, and son, David and his wife, Natalie, of Albuquerque; as well as six grandchildren, Michael Sanders, Kimberly Crawford, Grant Huntley, Jessica Bridwell, Ryan Bridwell, and Mark Bridwell; and seven great-grandchildren. Mary was born in Anniston, AL and continued throughout her life to have deep roots in her Alabama heritage. When she was nine years old, she and her family moved to Dallas, TX where she later met her husband, Jim, when they were both working for an insurance company. Due to World War II, Mary spent the early years of her married life caring for a child while her husband was away in the Army. After the War, Jim and Mary moved to Oklahoma for a new employment opportunity with General Foods, thus beginning their life of raising children and job transfers, ultimately ending in a permanent home in Albuquerque in 1966 and remaining here after Jim's retirement in 1986. Mary loved the desert splendor of Albuquerque and always enjoyed returning home after their many retirement travels across the country. As a helpmate to Jim and a mother for Judith, Ginger & David, she exhibited all of the love and caring of a true "Steel Magnolia." Mary and Jim welcomed and nurtured all people who came into their lives, and she is loved and will be missed by all. The Bridwell family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Presbyterian Hospice Services for their excellent care and support during the last months of her life. They were faithful and supportive and always went the extra mile. Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. BRUCE -- Charlotte Beers Bruce, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, passed away at the Montebello Nursing Home on Thursday, August 12, 2004. Charlotte is survived by her two sons, Donald Roger Bruce of Albuquerque, NM and Robert Arthur Bruce of San Francisco, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas McIntire Bruce on June 7, 1991, and her brother, Roger Whitney Beers on June 11, 1982. Charlotte Elizabeth Beers was born on July 20, 1916 in Gardner, MA, the only daughter of Alfred Whitney Beers and Ardella Lydia Clancy. Following high school graduation and one year of art school, Charlotte played trumpet in several 'all-girl' bands from 1935 to 1940. She married Douglas McIntire Bruce in 1940, and they remained married until his death. As an artist, she exhibited in Buffalo, Albuquerque, and Hawaii and was a member of the NM Art League and the NM Watercolor Society. CHAMPLIN -- John W. Champlin, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died Sunday, August 8, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcella "Sally" Champlin of Albuquerque; son, Mark Champlin and wife, Diana of Albuquerque; daughter, Nancy Quellette and husband, Michael of Antonito, CO; grandchildren, Glen Champlin and wife, Jennifer, Jacinda Champlin, Carrie Ouellette, and Chance Ouellette; and great-grandchild, Brett Champlin. Mr. Champlin worked for 10 years with APS as a 6th grade teacher. He was a Junior High Basketball coach for 3 1/2 years in Gas City, IN and worked 12 years for the State of New Mexico as a Social Worker. He was a WWII Veteran where he served in the 512th Field Artillery Battalion of the Third Army. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday, August 23, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at Las Colinas Retirement village the Los Amigos Lounge, 500 Paisano Rd. NE. DECLUE -- Clyde B. "Joe" Joe DeClue 13 February 1921 - 4 August 2004 Clyde B. DeClue, known as "Joe" to his family and friends, peacefully passed away in his sleep early Wednesday morning, August 4, 2004. Grandpa Joe was born to Joseph and Alice DeClue in winter of 1921 in Herculaneum, MO. During WWII he was initially stationed in Albuquerque, NM before being assigned to the Pacific Theater where he served as an engineer. While in Albuquerque he met Frances Armijo Chavez, and returned to marry her after the war. He lovingly accepted Frances's two children, Ted Springer and Armita Chavez, as his own. Armita later married Richard J. Dorso. Over time the family grew to seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. During his Fifty plus years as an Albuquerque resident, Grandpa drove logging trucks, constructed homes across New Mexico and built the KOA campground in Santa Rosa, NM where he and Nana Frances managed it for several years. In 1997 after Nana Frances passed away, he was called back to Herculaneum where he lived with his widowed sister, Helen Vogt. Upon Helen's passing in July 2000, Grandpa returned to the Southwest where he happily lived his remaining years in Tucson with his grandchildren. He was a respected member of the Tucson Community Church where he made new friends that he amazed with adventurous stories of his life; Grandpa was loved and will be missed by many. We ask that you respect our Grandfather's memory by honoring the men and woman who serve our country, past and present. Our Grandfather passed away on the 4th of August along with over One-Thousand of his WWII comrades. Memorial and burial service will be held Monday the 16th of August, 2004 at the Santa Fe Veterans National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.

DIAZ -- Beverly Ann Diaz, 44, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 11, 2004. Beverly is the beloved mother to JP Parra and Isaac Parra. Beverly is also survived by her parents, Jose M. and Jane Diaz; one sister, Jeanne Vallez; her grandmother, Helen Carley; special niece, Desiree Vallez; special nephew, Joseph Vallez; her aunt, Linda Lopez; two uncles, Rick Carley and Frank Chewiwie; many cousins; and friends. Beverly was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Beverly will be Friday evening, August 13, 2004 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. FRANCIS -- James Crawford (Jim) Francis, born in the USAF Hospital at Andrews AFB, MD on February 5, 1962, died at the age of 42, as a result of a senseless automobile 'road-rage' incident in Tijeras Canyon on August 9, 2004. A lover of both life and people, Jim was also the 'patron saint' of all animals, especially his three cats. A great sports fan, particularly of the Boston Red Sox, and an all-seasons athlete, he played competitive sports most of his life, but his first love really was hockey. A musician of long interest, he played bass and traveled with several musical groups during his adult life. He is a graduate of El Dorado High School. Jim is survived by his mother, Martha Francis, his father, Bob Francis, both of Albuquerque; his older brother, Miller and Jim's very best friend and companion, Jeanette Torre; his stepmother, Bettye Rae Francis; stepsister, Tracy McReynolds (formerly of Albuquerque and now of Olympia, WA.) and her two sons, Chris and Kyle; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Larry (Lawrence) in 1983. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2004, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Lead. GARCIA -- Emiliano (Emil) Ronald Garcia, age 51, beloved father, son, and brother was called home by our Heavenly Father and Savior, Monday, August 9, 2004. Emil was born on November 21, 1952; and was a life long resident of Albuquerque. He is survived by his son, Nathaniel (Nate) Garcia; his loving mother, Minerva (Minnie) Garcia; his sisters, Kathy Kaiser, Ree Garcia and husband, James, Angelica Tyler and husband, Dan, and Diana Rincon and husband, Tim; his fiancee, Susan Trimm; three nephews; three nieces; one step-daughter; and several other great-nieces and -nephews; and a host of friends. GREEN -- Mrs. Inez Green, 90, a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Laguna, N.M., passed away on August 8, 2004. Mrs. Green is the beloved wife of 65 years to Mr. Herbert Green. Mrs. Green is also survived by one daughter, Barbara Paulos; three grandchildren, Ken Paulos Sr., Paul Paulos, and Shannon Green; four great-grandchildren, Amy Paulos, Steven Paulos, Ken Paulos Jr., and Lena Inez Paulos; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. HALL -- Thomas W. Hall died on August 8, 2004 in Leesburg FL. He was born on January 3, 1913 at Lake Vermillion, MN. JANIS -- Beverly J. Janis, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 after losing her second battle with cancer. She is survived by her three children, Jerry Janis and wife, Ginny, Teresa McCarthy and husband, Jack, and Tim Janis, all of Albuquerque; four granddaughters, Michelle Janis, Stephanie Janis, Katie McCarthy and Colleen McCarthy. Beverly was born and raised in St. Paul, MN where she met and married her husband, Jerome W. Janis. He became a career officer in the U.S. Air Force and they took off on a 21-year journey of being stationed and living in many different places throughout the United States, Japan, Germany and Belgium, before Jerome retired in Albuquerque in 1970. After losing her husband in 1993, Bev's life centered on her children, granddaughters and a close circle of friends. She will be remembered as a person who took a sincere interest in the lives of people she met and was always eager to offer kindness and support. A Celebration Mass will be held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church, 12500 Carmel NE. The family will hold a private Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery where Beverly will be laid to rest with her late husband Jerome. JOHNSON -- Dale Foster Johnson. A resident of Albuquerque for 42 years. Born May 16, 1931 in Aspen, CO, died August 9, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. Preceded in death by father, Carl Johnson and mother, Eunice Johnson. Survived by beloved wife of 50 years, Shiori Johnson; sons, Gary Johnson of Apple Valley, MN, Roy Johnson of Lafayette, CO, Zack Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT; sisters, Carletta McLain of Eaton, CO, Irene Conner of Aspen, CO; brother, Harold Johnson of Wyoming; and grandchildren, Dale Johnson, Logan Johnson, Theresa Johnson, Anna Johnson, and Helena Johnson. Dale was a good husband and best friend to his wife; he enjoyed dancing with her every chance he could. He was a great father and sensei to his boys and was loved by everyone he touched. Though there may have been greater men, there has never been a greater father. He was an animal lover and had a special relationship with his dog, Niji. Being a lifelong student of knowledge and wisdom as well as a self taught philosopher, he left this world as he lived in it - as a true gentleman. JONES -- Amelia Rose Jones, 3, went home to be with God on August 10, 2004. Amelia was diagnosed six weeks ago with Glioblastoma Multiforme, which is a grade 4-brain tumor. She was at home surrounded with the people and things she loved most. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Misty Jones; big brother, Matt Jones; grandparents, Molly (Mammaw) Bazan, Andy Garcia, Joyce and Bill Leonards, and Harold and Linda Jones; great-grandparents, Lucy Bazan, John Bazan, Gloria Mena, and Gen Watkins; uncles and aunts, Tio Nino Carlos and Tia Nina Stephanie Garcia, Darla and Chris Henderson, Robert Jones, and Harold Jones, Jr.; cousins, Alexia, Jackie, Josh, Spencer, Kit, Kristin, and Austin; numerous great-aunts, -uncles, and cousins. In Amelia's 40 months, 3 days, and 35 minutes here on earth, she has touched so many people's lives. She was truly an Angel amongst us. LIBO -- Gina Martha Libo rests in peace after a long, brave struggle on August 11, 2004 in Las Cruces, NM. Born in Ann Arbor, MI on June 20, 1952, she was the daughter of Dr. Lester Libo of Albuquerque and the late Betty Laws Libo of Santa Fe. After graduating from Sandia Prep in Albuquerque, she received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Nursing at the University of New Mexico. Gina received her Ph.D. in Business Administration at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1996. She was on the faculty at NMSU College of Nursing. She is survived by her father and his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Conley; her three children, Maggie, Hannah, and Sam Feil and their father, Dr. Paul Feil, friend and former husband of many years. Gina will also be missed by her brother, Victor Libo and his wife, Dedee; and her sisters, Felicia and Lesley Libo; as well as nieces, Emily and Jessica; and nephews, Thomas and Justin. Gina will live in the hearts of her soul sisters, Ellen Goldsmith, Anna Schreiber, and Simy Allan. Her love for life is reflected by her many interests and activities, ranging from past presidency of Temple Beth El and its Sisterhood in Las Cruces, to being a Girl Scout leader, soccer mom, and cat enthusiast. In celebration of her life, services will be held at Grahams Mortuary in Las Cruces on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Masonic Cemetery. LOPEZ -- Gloria Mascarenas Lopez, 74, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2004. She was born on November 1, 1929 in Telluride, CO. She is preceded in death by Joe Mascarenas and her son, Michael Robert Mascarenas. Gloria is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Lopez; her son, Joe Mascarenas Jr. and wife, Veronica; daughters, Mary Lou Peralta and husband, Thomas, Mary Ann Mascarenas and Cathy Pohl and husband, Michael; brothers, Joe Rivera and Pete Lovato and wife, Leonora; sisters, Mela Valdez and Vangie Turrietta; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by Freddie and Lawrence Lopez. MORGAN -- Jack MacGee Morgan, former long-time New Mexico State Senator, 80, saw his last sunrise early in the morning of August 11, 2004 after a valiant battle against cancer. Jack was born in Portales, NM on January 15, 1924 to the late George Albert and Mary Rosana Baker Morgan. A World War II veteran, Jack proudly served as an officer on the USS Mitchell, destroyer escort, in the United States Navy from 1942-1946. Jack graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, receiving his BBA in 1948 and his law degree in 1950. True to his commitment to public service, Jack accepted an appointment in 1973 to fill the unexpired term of then State Senator Don Hargrove. Jack served as State Senator, representing San Juan County, District 1, from 1973 -1988. During his terms, Senator Morgan was instrumental in getting improved roads for the San Juan County area as well as leading an effort to bring a railroad to this area. During his term in office, Senator Morgan held many leadership positions including Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. He also served on the Judiciary and Education Committees, the Revenue Stabilization Committee and the Environmental Health Study Committee and was chairman of the Four Corners Transportation Committee. He also served on and was past chairman of the Southwest Regional Energy Council. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club in Portales and Farmington. He was also a member of the Elks Club in Farmington. Jack served on the Board of Directors of Ziems Ford Motor Company, Merrion Oil Company, Arizona Public Service and Wells Fargo (formerly First National Bank of Farmington), and Farmington Museum Foundation, as well as other local boards. He was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1950 and practiced in New Mexico for his entire 54-year career. His practice varied, but his true love was estate planning. Jack placed more value on helping people than on making money, and he never turned a client away for inability to pay. During his years of practice, he could be seen having a cup of coffee at the old Pancake Alley with friends, family members, and clients. Jack Morgan was a lawyer's lawyer. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Flynn Cummings Morgan; his children, Marilyn Morgan Montoya, Rebecca Morgan, Claudia Morgan-Gray, and Jack MacGee Morgan, Jr.; and other family: Patrick Montoya, Elaine Hinnant, Weldon R. Gray, Hannah Morgan, Jessica May, John May, Grace May, Amanda Morgan, Mary Morgan, Zachary Moreno, Lori Edney, Brittany Edney, Danielle Edney, Debbie Badger, Corky Francis, Bobbi Morgan, and Roger Sheak. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Connley Hospitality House, the Northwest Hospice, or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Jeff Neidhart, Dr. Joseph Pope, and the entire staff of the 4th floor medical ward of San Juan Regional Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care of Daddy Jack.

SANDOVAL -- Domingo Francisco Sandoval, age 93, was called home by our Heavenly Father Tuesday, August 10, 2004. He will lie in State on Friday, August 13, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pena Blanca, NM, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. this evening. Final viewing will be Saturday morning, August 14, 2004, also at the church, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Sandoval, Estevan Lovato, Elodio Sandoval, Fernando Mares, Mario Trujillo, and Gregorio Trujillo. Honorary bearers will be Collin Sandoval and Armond Sandoval. VANDERMOLEN -- Patricia Diane Vandermolen, 47, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Jeff Vandermolen of the family home; sons, Jason Vandermolen and wife, Paula, Jesse Vandermolen, Joey Vandermolen, and Mark Vandermolen, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Melissa Ferreyra and husband, Jose, Christina Vandermolen, and Jessica Vandermolen, all of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Sean, Krista, Isaiah and Lily; father, James Dunn of Carson City, NV; sister, Sharon Hohl of Stage Coach, NV; brothers, Mike Waldrop of Earlimart, CA, Terry Dunn and John Dunn, both of Albuquerque, and Daniel Dunn of Carson City, NV; and father and mother-in-law, Wil and Jan Vandermolen of Albuquerque.
