ARCHULETA -- Tony Joe Archuleta passed away on June 30, 2004 at the age of 69. Father of Anthony, Rick, Michael, Yolanda, Rhonda, and Carolyn; brother of Mary Faye, Pete, Irene, Rosalie, Joe Eddy, Betty, and Steve. Tony is also survived by his former wife and mother to their children, Dorothy Archuleta; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Josie Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Seferina; his sister, Josie; and brothers, Leo and Miguel. Tony enjoyed fishing, taking walks, and participating in his membership in the Lobo Club. BLACK -- Vivian Halthusen Black, 102, a resident of Albuquerque since 1913, died on Friday, July 2, 2004. She was born in Florissant, CO to William G. and Grace Halthusen. Vivian came to live in Albuquerque with her family in 1913. She attended Albuquerque High School and was later employed by the Veteran's Administration Hospital. She had been a member of the First Church of Christ Scientists and a lifetime member of Ada Chapter order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, William Randolph (Randy) in 1945, her husband William H. (Bill) Black in 1984, and her sister, Maxine Collins in 1999. She had been a resident of Montebello Retirement Community since 1993. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Camuglia and husband Joseph; three grandchildren, Rick Camuglia, Becky Rippel, and Cheryl Thompson and husband Nick; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Bethany Hillson. CAMPOS -- Ignacio G. Campos, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 30, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nora, his daughter, Pauline and husband, Arthur Duran, daughter, Erma and husband, David McDonald, son, Benny and wife, Samantha Campos, all of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, William Campos. Nash was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country in WWII as a medic. Mr. Campos is also survived by his sister, Mary Venegas of California, and two brothers, Adolfo Campos Jr. of Hollman, NM, and Felix Campos of Albuquerque, NM. Grandpa Nash was most proud of his eight beautiful grandchildren and found such enjoyment out of his 16 great-grandchildren. His sense of humor and ready laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Special thanks from the family to Lovelace Hospice and Dr. Mark Wesselman, MD, for their support. A Rosary will be recited on Monday July 5, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday July 6, 2004 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix NE. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors. CHAMBERS -- Lon E. Chambers, a resident of Albuquerque since 1996, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Jennalee Tidwell Chambers of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Carolyn Saxe of Albuquerque; stepson, John Tidwell of Spring, TX; step-granddaughter, Leigh Tidwell of Spring, TX; step-grandson, Scott Saxe of Albuquerque; and step-great-grandsons, Jacob and Tristan Lopez of Spring, TX. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary. Mr. Chambers was born on December 19, 1919 to L.H. and Lettie Chambers in Marfa, TX. He graduated from Marfa High School and attended Sul Ross University. Mr. Chambers served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Pacific during WWII. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in El Paso, TX for 31 years. Mr. Chambers was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. EDWARDS -- W. Sterling Edwards, 83, died at home in Albuquerque on June 28 after a long struggle with multiple system atrophy related to Parkinson's Disease. He was a visionary medical researcher, surgeon and teacher. Dr. Edwards was a pioneer in cardiovascular surgery. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on July 23, 1920. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1942 and later received an MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1945 to 1948. He was a professor of surgery at the Medical College of Alabama from 1952 to 1969 and at the University of New Mexico from 1969 to 1987. He volunteered on the medical ship Hope in 1968, stationed off the coast of Sri Lanka. From 1974 to 1987 he served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico. In retirement, he worked with persons suffering from terminal illnesses to help them better communicate with their health providers. His wife, Ann Dudley Edwards, preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by his son, Bruce of Albuquerque and his wife, Paula and their children, Laura and Robert; his son, Peter of Albuquerque and his wife, Ana and their children, Will and Sandy; his son, Wyman of Albuquerque and his stepchildren, Amadeo and Nina Gonzales; his daughter, Kitty of Boulder, Colorado and her husband, Carl Lineberger; his sisters, Alabama E. Williams and Betsy E. Pless of Birmingham, Alabama; and his brother, Leon Wyman Edwards of Birmingham, Alabama. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. July 10 in Keller Hall, located next to Popejoy Hall on the campus of the University of New Mexico. FAKTOROW -- Saul. Lt. Col. Saul Faktorow, USAF (Ret.), 82, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2004 with his beloved wife, Barbara at his side. He was a resident of Albuquerque for almost 50 years. Saul was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 3, 1922. He is survived by his dear wife of 46 years, Barbara and her four sisters; his sister, Sylvia Oxman and husband Mort of Philadelphia; nephews, Tom Oxman, wife Sally, and children, and Robert Oxman, wife Andrea, and children; sister-in-law Beatrice Faktor; dear cousins; and many friends. After two years at the University of Pennsylvania and the beginning of WWII, Saul joined the Army Air Corp as an Aviation Cadet in 1942. Upon graduation from basic and advanced flight training, he received his aviator wings and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in February of 1944. After training, he transitioned to flying the P-47 Thunderbolt in a combat role and was assigned to the 390th Fighter Squadron, 336th Fighter Group in Normandy, France. His buddies called him "Flak." As a career officer in the Army Air Corp/U.S. Air Force, Saul went on to fly F-86 and F-100 Sabre jets in Korea and the B-57 Canberra in Vietnam (two tours). Of all his flying duties, he was most proud of his 87 WWII combat missions in support of Allied ground troops and subsequent liberation of France. Saul was the recipient of the distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Metal with 16 oak leaf clusters, and numerous other U.S. and foreign citations. Later in his military career he completed his degree and served as a Flight Safety Officer assigned to Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. He found humor in the fact that he had never flown an airplane prior to his military flight training. Saul loved flying and continued to fly after he retired from the Air Force in 1968. He also liked fine automobiles and raced with professional drivers on occasion. He and Barbara enjoyed art, especially Southwest and Cowboy art. A craftsman of all sorts, he had a special passion for timepieces. Saul was a loving husband, a man of principle, a loyal friend, and role model to many. The epitome of "an officer and a gentleman," he treated everyone with respect, charmed all who met him with his wonderful sense of humor, was a great listener, and never had an unkind word to say. Saul lived his life with a fierce love and loyalty for his wife, country, and fellow man. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. FROST -- Greg Frost passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2004. He is survived by his widow, Dannee Ashton; and her son, Hunter; his good friends in Albuquerque including Fount Harvill and his children, Peta and Hawk; Joseph Anthony, who was like a brother to him; friend and boss Dennis Maloof, who paid for the services; and his beloved Great Dane, Einstein. A Memorial Service was held last Friday, June 25, 2004. The family loved Greg dearly and would like to thank everyone who attended.

GENDON -- Stanton Gendon, 81, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2004. He was born in Chicago, IL on June 1, 1923 and had been a resident of Albuquerque for thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Alta Laree Yancey; children, Richard Gendon of Naperville, IL and Diane Lukoff of Chicago, IL; and one grandchild, Lauren Lukoff. Stanton was the former owner of AA Auto and a member of the Paradise Hills Golf Club. He was a loyal friend to many people in Albuquerque. A private memorial service will be held by the family. IVERSON -- Gladys C. Iverson, Dec. 8, 1910 to June 25, 2004 in Olivia, MN. Gladys Clara Iverson, 93, of Olivia died June 25, 2004, at the Olivia Healthcare Center. The funeral took place June 28, at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home. She and her husband, William Ole Iverson moved from Olivia to Albuquerque in 1961. After her husband's death Feb. 7, 1966, she returned to Olivia. She is survived by one daughter and five sons. Two of her sons and wives are Albuquerque residents: Robert (Marie ) and Wallace (Judy) Iverson. Other survivors include 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Curtis in 1953.

LYLE -- Dr. John Robert Jr., born November 4, 1944; died June 8, 2004. Dr. Lyle is survived by his father, John R. Lyle Sr. of Albuquerque; and his loving daughter, Kim Colleen Hine and her husband, Jeff of Rio Rancho. His grandchildren include, Trahurn Timblin of Albuquerque, and Michael and Calley Hine of Rio Rancho. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Lyle of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sisters, Mary Utrup of Albuquerque; Martha "Marnie" Lyle-Erhard of Las Cruces, Veronica Peterson of Seaford; and former wife, Carol Merovka of Albuquerque. John also had numerous aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and cousins who respected and loved him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Thelma Lyle. John graduated from St. Pius X High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from UNM. He obtained his medical degree from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. His career in psychiatry included private practice in Albuquerque and California. At the time of his passing he worked as a prison psychiatrist with the California Department of Corrections, at San Quentin, in Chino, California He is remembered by his colleagues as being a strong advocate for inmates and a prison psychiatrist par excellence. Dr. Lyle's medical and psychiatric interests were centered upon efforts to heal the whole person, both physically and mentally. He had little tolerance for individuals who did not respect other human beings, whatever their position in life. He was a gregarious person, who appreciated all kinds of music; read avidly about a multitude of topics, and loved the ocean. John is remembered by his family as a generous physician who cared deeply about his patients, colleagues, and friends. He is missed by all who knew him. He was cremated at the Halsted Gray-Carew Funeral Home on Sutter Street in San Francisco, California; 415-673-3000. A funeral mass is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Annunciation Parrish, 2532 Vermont NE in Albuquerque.

MALDONADO -- Helen Garcia Maldonado, 66, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on July 2, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Porfirio Maldonado; four daughters, Kathy Alvarez and husband, Victor, Debbie Garcia, Pearl Holley and Magdalene Garcia; grandchildren, Zack, Geneva and husband, Brad, Ava, Dan and Malachi; great grandchildren, Mariah and an unborn baby girl; three sisters, Betty, Nellie and Lillian; sister-in-law, Ilene; aunt, Isabel Avila. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and a granddaughter. Visitation will take place Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a wake service at 6:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. MARTIN -- Christina A. Martin Beloved Aunt, Sister, Friend Christina faced life head on, never losing hope or strength despite life's trials. Those closest to her knew that hope was bigger than herself and more than religion. Christina is survived by one brother, David Martinez,; nieces Nicole, Elysia, Rebecca and Christie; nephew Juan; and great nephew Jacob whom she helped raise during his first years. Other's surviving her include her sister-in-law Sofia Martinez; nieces, Maria and Deborah, and many other great nieces and nephews; Vickie Hanna her long time best friend, Carol Reel, and many other friends at Qwest where she retired as a dedicated and hard working Customer Service Manager. A special thanks to those who cared for Christina in her last days, including her prayer group especially Pat Sasso. Christina inspired and served her family, doing anything for everyone with dedication. She was kind and generous and lived her life with Jesus Christ that those around her might follow. She battled cancer until it became the vehicle that delivered her into the arms of her Savior, where she will suffer no more. MCKINNEY -- Bradley Dean McKinney, age 74, passed away suddenly on July 1, 2004 at his home in Albuquerque, NM. Dean was born to William P. and Hattie Watkins McKinney on June 10, 1930, in Carlsbad, NM. He spent his school years growing up in Weed, NM, with his uncle and aunt, Erb and Syb Deppe. He graduated from the Weed High School. Dean served in the Marine Corps was in the Korean War. After returning home, Dean got involved in the race horse industry. He was well known in the industry and had many friends. Dean was a racing official of one capacity or another for over 50 years. Dean had filled positions of Racing Secretary and Steward in Arizona, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, Kentucky, New York and New Mexico, including Ruidoso Downs. He was associated with Albuquerque Downs at the time of his death. Dean was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Hattie McKinney; his Uncle and Aunt, Erb and Syb Deppe and a sister, Violet Bailey. Dean is survived by the love of his life, his wife Beth, son William "Bill" McKinney and his wife Pam of Denver, CO; sister Betty Pippin and husband Bill of Ruidoso; sister Willa Mae "Billie" Dentler of Ruidoso; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. MCLAUGHLIN -- William (Bill) Ellis McLaughlin passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2004 surrounded by his family. Private services were held in Algodones, NM, where he was layed to rest. He is preceded in death by his father, William; Mother, Agnes; and brothers, Jack and Bobby. Bill is survived by wife, Elizabeth; step-children, Michael Torres and Dianna Torres Archibeque; three grandchildren, Maija and Mariah Archibeque, and Michael Israel Torres. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Glenda; 3 nephews and 2; nieces. Bill spent his entire career in the food and beverage industry. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Allen Firestone of Bernalillo, NM, for his involvement and interest in Bill's health; to Lynette, Jayne, Ruth, Fergus and Katy at Zia Hospice for their loving care and attention; to the Placitas Volunteer Fire and Rescue Brigade, who on numerous occasions assisted with great professionalism, Robert at Road Runner Medical Equipment and Bob at Medical Supply Company for their prompt delivery and caring nature; and most especially to all our family and friends who provided us with words of encouragement and moral support during this difficult journey. MITCHELL -- Jessie A. Mitchell, age 87, born June 17, 1917 in Akron , Ohio and a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 passed away peacefully on Friday July, 2, 2004. She is survived by her six children; Linda and John Guernsey of Indiana, Cheryl Barrios of Albuquerque, Judy Kislan of Arizona, Fred and Anne Mitchell, Jr. of Albuquerque, Dennis Mitchell of Farmington, Terry and Lori Mitchell of Albuquerque; several great and great-great grandchildren; sister Jean and Bill Price of Ohio and brother Sam Justus of Ohio. Jessie was a charter member of Hoffmantown Church and husband Fred Sr. was one of the first pianists for the church. She was very active in the church's children's ministry and continued to do so well into her 80's. She will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, faithful friend and servant of God. MONGAR -- Lt. Col. (Ret) Gradon E. Mongar, age 80, of Albuquerque passed into the wild blue yonder on July 2, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born October 6, 1923 in Palisade Nebraska. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine; daughter Carol of Albuquerque; son David of Clovis; and his grandson Christopher of Clovis. He was a fighter pilot in the U.S.A.F. for 27 years. He flew P-47's in Germany in WWII, F-100's in Vietnam. His last assignment was Squadron Commander of the 524th at Cannon A.F.B. He retired in 1970. Following retirement he owned and operated Mongar's Clock & Antiques, in Clovis for eight years. Public visitation will be Tuesday, July 6, 2004 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at University Blvd. Chapel. PARKS -- John Henry Parks, age 93, was born in 1910 in Troy Township, Michigan. He came to Albuquerque in 1956 with his wife and son. He was employed by ACF and was transferred to GE and worked there until his retirement. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a volunteer for 25 years with Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary, and former member of SPEBSQSA-New MexiChords. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Marian; son, James of Texas; grandson, Nathan of Georgia; three great-grandchildren; niece, Barbara Martz; and nephew, Joseph Parks. His favorite hobbies were golf and barbershop singing. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Rev. Michael Brunk officiating. REYES -- Margaret- Mrs. Margaret R. Reyes, 71, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 1, 2004. Mrs. Reyes is the beloved wife of 54 years to Mr. Leonardo Reyes. Mrs. Reyes is also survived by seven children; Richard Reyes and Geri Kennedy, Patricia Gutierrez and husband, Robert, Antonia Sanchez and husband, Eddie, Georgia Reyes and Robert Crabtree, Elizabeth Reyes and Benny Garcia, Theresa Haure and husband, Pierre (CW4), Sandra Reyes and husband, Alex Sanchez; three brothers, Nick Ramirez and wife, Alice, Pete Ramirez and wife, Charmien, Ruben Ramirez and wife, Rosemary; one sister in law, Mary Ramirez; ten grandchildren, Beverly, Steven, Amanda, Christopher, MIchael, Meaghan, Lindsey, Taylor, Leticia and Andre; eleven great grandchildren, Malachi, Mikaela, Patrick, James, Heaven Leigh, Chelsea, Andre Jr., Andrew, Paul Jr., Dominic and Adrean; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A visitation for Mrs. Reyes will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Sonny Andrade. A final visitation will be Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Pl. NW, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Frank Prieto. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. ROMERO -- Manuel Romero, 54, a resident of Bernalillo for 24 years, was received by Jesus Christ our Lord on Thursday, July 1, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Benita Romero; daughters, Vanessa Gutierrez and husband, Joseph, Michelle Castro and husband, John, and Andrea Romero; sons, Benny and Angelo Miller; mother, Vera Romero; Brothers, Ed Romero and wife, Liz, Joe Romero and wife, Emma; sisters, Barbara Abeyta and husband, Richard from St. Louis, MO, Loretta Vigil and husband Rudy; and sister-in-law, Benerita Romero. Manuel has four grandchildren, Alcario, Daniel, Marisa, and Felicia. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel, and two brothers, Cajetan and Conrad. Manuel grew up on a ranch in Antonito, CO. He moved to Albuquerque in 1963. He worked for St. Joseph Hospital for over 20 years, and Sandoval County for the past three years. Manuel is a member of Our Lady of Sorrows parish, and is devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ. Manuel loved being with his family. He camped, hunted, played softball, and spent many hours working on various projects. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, artisan, and friend. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows parish in Bernalillo, 301 Camino del Pueblo. SIMMS -- Cecelia Wirt Simms, a resident of Edgewood, NM, passed away on July 1, 2004. Cecelia is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard R. Simms; son, Richard W. Simms and wife, Barbara of Estancia; Mary S. Schutz and husband, Don of Wagon Mound; four grandsons: Jay Simms and wife, Penny, of Flower Mound, TX; Matthew Simms and wife, Kristen, of Davie, FL; Mike Schutz and wife, Robyn, of Bellevue, WA; and Steve Schutz, of Renton, WA; two great- granddaughters and one great-grandson. Cecelia is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, children of her brother, Buster Ladd Vicenti, and of her sister, Rose Lynch, both from Dulce, and both now deceased. Cecelia, the daughter of Emmet Wirt and Christina Schirmer Wirt, was born February 10, 1917, in Durango, CO. Growing up in Dulce, she married her childhood sweetheart, Richard, and together they ranched in Chromo, CO, Edgewood, Logan, Wagon Mound, and Truth or Consequences, returning to Edgewood in 1995. Cecelia was an avid and accomplished horsewoman, and throughout her life her greatest pleasures were being with her horses, and riding on the ranch on her horse with her dog. Cecelia's quick wit and devotion to animals will be fondly remembered. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 9, at 1:00 p.m., at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, located at 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE, in Albuquerque. SOLANO -- Patsy M. Solano, born February 10, 1934, died peacefully at her home on July 1, 2004 after a year illness with terminal brain cancer. She is survived by her husband, Roy G. YONACK -- Ralph Yonack, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 54 years, died Friday July 2, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Bergman Yonack; daughters, Donna Yonack Palvadeau and husband Roy of Dallas, TX, Nori Yonack and husband Robert Choate of Albuquerque, NM; son, Alan Yonack and wife, Sheryl of Dallas, TX; 4 grandchildren, Stuart Palvadeau, Sam, Noah and Sydney Yonack, all of Dallas, TX; sister Sylvia Sussman of Dallas, TX; and Charlotte Levin and husband Sol of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law Arline Yonack of El Paso, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Dora Cwengel Yonack and brothers Melvin and Joseph Yonack. He was born on July 13, 1915 in Dallas, TX and graduated from Forest Avenue High School. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during WWll, with the 2nd Ferrying Group, 63rd Ferrying Squadron of the Air Transport Command. He was a management executive with Zale's Jewelers for 36 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel for 54 years, a life member of the Bartlesville, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge and a member of B'nai Brith International. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and uncle and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Road, with Rabbi Arthur W. Flicker officiating.
