ARAGON -- Clara Aragon, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with her Lord Saturday, June 19, 2004. She is survived by her son, John B. Aragon and wife Julie; daughter, Susie Gonzales and husband, Bernie; daughter and caretaker, Myra Aragon; 3 grandchildren, Julian Gonzales, Saundra Garcia and John D. Aragon; 7 great grandchildren, Briana, Cruz, Tatyana, Jacob, Nevaeh, Monique, Miranda, and 1 great grandson on the way: and sister, Elena Lucero. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Benito in 2002. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to cook, sew, and was an excellent wood worker who never shied away from household projects and care for her family. BACA -- Mr. Gillie J. Baca "Uncle Gillie," 81, born September 11, 1922, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, and also in security for the Army Corps of Engineers. His passion was dancing and he also enjoyed playing guitar. He attended Senior Center dances and won dance contests throughout the city and state. He attended Albuquerque High School where he was an All-State golfer. Mr. Baca is survived by his brothers, Eloy and Dennis Baca; sisters, Ada Chavez and husband, Charles, Elsie Petersen, and Dolores Armijo. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, and his lifelong dancing partner, Jospehine Listek. A Rosary for Mr. Baca will be recited on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2004 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided the DAV Chapter 3. Pallbearers will be Donald Gillie Armijo, Dominic Chavez, Chuck Chavez, Cameron Vigil, Alfredo Rios, and Richard Petersen. GRAMMER -- Allie Maurine Parker Grammer, a resident of Albuquerque since 1926, passed away Sunday afternoon June 20, 2004. Maurine was born on December 7, 1903 in Kansas City, Missouri to John H. Parker and Julia West Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband David A. Grammer in 1959, a brother Chester Parker, and a sister, Helen Parker Hall. Maurine attended Stephens College and the University of Wyoming. A retired Albuquerque Public School teacher, she received her BS and BA degrees from the University of New Mexico. After retiring she concentrated on her Fine Arts and Indian Arts appraisal work, writing books for children. She also wrote many feature articles for magazines. Mrs. Grammer is survived by her son, David A. Grammer, Jr. and wife, Mary Elizabeth; grandson, David A. Grammer, III and wife, Patricia; Margaret Grammer Gay and husband, Remo Gay; Mary Katherine Grammer; Patricia Grammer Eskew and husband Mike and three great-granddaughters, Carmen E. GRIEGO -- Felicita Griego, A longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away June 21, 2004 at the age of 91. Mother of Regina Gonzales and Trini, Clara Sedillo , Eloy Griego and wife Margaret and the Late Herman Griego. Grandmother of 17grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Felicita was a member of our lady of the most holy Rosary Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, music and spending time with children. Rosary services will be recited on Wednesday June 23, 2004 at 7 P.M. at Garcia Mortuary. The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2004 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW Albuquerque, New Mexico at 11 A.M. HARTSFIELD -- Vera Hartsfield, age 93, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004 at home in Albuquerque. Vera was a member of The First Methodist Church, Melrose, NM. Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry; one brother, Gilber Hightower. Surivivors include two sons, Tommy Hartsfield and Dudley and wife, Vickie Hartsfield; two daughters, Donnie Stickley and Vella and husband, Leon Dodd; one brother, Broy Hightower; eight grandchildren, Becky and husband, Leroy Finney, Darla Dodd, Shelley Mapstone, Scott and wife, Sandra Dodd, Tammy and husband, Larry Taylor, Doug Stickley, Dudley Wayne Hartsfield, Cindy Bernal, and Tuffy Hartsfield; twelve great grandchildren; and two great great grandsons. KNEE -- Steve Knee, 44, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died suddenly on Saturday, June 19, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Helen Knee; children, Peter, Danielle, Nicholas, Amanda, Ciara, and Kristiana Knee; mother, Dora Knee-Brandt; brother, Danny Knee and wife, Sarah; sister, Sandi Novak and husband, Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Knee; and step-father, Joseph Brandt. Steve was born on May 26, 1960 and graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1978 and from UNM with a BS in civil engineering. He was co-owner of ABQ Engineering, and an avid sports enthusiast. As a youngster he played Little League Baseball, YAFL and high school football. Following his love of football, he became a YAFL coach for more than 15 years. He also coached the freshman football teams at La Cueva High School and Cibola High School. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel NE. LIVINGSTON -- Earl F. Livingston, 74, passed away on June 19, 2004 due to cancer. Earl "Ran with perseverance the race marked out for him," Heb 12:11. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Viola; daughter, Mary Therese Owen and husband, Gary, son, John; son, Gregory and wife, Kim; son, Patrick and wife, Dorothy; daughter Kathleen and her fianc‚, Billy Willson; his sister, Virginia Ambrose; five grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. In 1947, he graduated from Holy Cross School in Canon City, CO and also earned his pilots license. He joined the US Air Force in September 1950 and served as an instructor in A&E Mechanics School. In May, 1952 he contracted polio which forced his retirement. He attended St. Joseph's College and earned a degree in Business in 1960. He worked for several years for the government and later opened his own realty co. He was very involved in community service. He joined the Civil Air Patrol and was active for over 40 years; serving in search missions, was an information officer for eight years and Wing commander for four years. He was active in the US Coast Guard Aux. for 24 years and helped teach boating classes. He served as Zoning Commissioner in Paradise Hills for 10 years; was PVA director for 10 years; and was treasurer for the Annual Sobriety New Year's Pow-Wow for approximately seven years. The family is extremely grateful for the exemplary care he received from the staff at the SCI unit at the VA Hospital. Contributions may be made to Holy Cross Abbey, P.O. MANWELLER -- Nancy Norwood Manweller July 18, 1940 - June 17, 2004 of Bend, Oregon died at home Thursday, June 17 after battling a long illness. She was 63. Nancy was born July 18, 1940, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Friedrich and Josephine Von Falkenberg. She married James Manweller on June 7, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nancy was an accomplished artist in watercolor, oil, pencil, and crafts until she became too ill to paint. She was especially well known for her watercolor New Mexico and Oregon landscapes and pencil portraits, some of which have been displayed in prestigious galleries in Taos, New Mexico. Nancy also served with her husband as a Senior Patroller on the National Volunteer Ski Patrol at Sandia Peak, New Mexico for 15 years. Nancy's passions were God, her family, fly fishing, wildlife and art. Survivors include her husband, James Manweller of Bend; son, Daniel Manweller of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Brian Wright of Nampa, Idaho; grandchildren, Nikola and Benjamin Wright; a sister, Holly McCarthy of Albuquerque; and several wonderful nieces, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Pamela Williams of Evergreen Home Services. A small private family service will be held. MARTINEZ -- Jose M Martinez, age 82, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Monday, June 21, 2004, while surrounded by his loving family. Jose was a life long resident of Corrales; and a parishioner of San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carmelita Martinez of the family home; his wonderful children, Jose Pablo Martinez of Algodones, NM, Joseph Martinez and wife, Debbie, Raymond Martinez both of Albuquerque, Joey Gonzales of Corrales, Rose Montoya also of Corrales, and Jennie Arvitt and husband, Shawn, of Albuquerque; numerous granndchildren; and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, EMiliano Martinez, Jr. and wife, Maria, Christobal Martinez, Ignacio Martinez and wife, Emily, Enriquez Martinez and wife, Arabella, Arturo Martinez; one sister, Sally Stevens; numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members and friends. Jose will be greatly missed by his loving family. MAZARR -- Charles Rennie, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, born March 26, 1919, died June 15, 2004. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Mazarr; and son, Robert Mazarr. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Mazarr-Proo; and grandson, Carson Taylor Proo. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950 and opened a restaurant with his wife and parents. In 1967 he began a new career in real estate and home building. He had a passion for sales and baking, and loved to indulge people with his homemade, culinary delights. He was a diligent worker who enjoyed hunting and woodworking. His love of his dogs helped him through the many years without his wife, Nancy. He will be greatly missed by his daughter. A short Memorial Service will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Tuesday afternoon, June 22, 2004 at 5:30 p.m.

ROYBAL -- Benjamin Roybal. Our family was blessed with a wonderful person; he was a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and great-grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, cousin and a good friend. In the presence of his loving family, after losing a courageous fourteen-year battle with Parkinson's disease, Benjamin Roybal, age 74, went to be with his Lord Jesus on June 19, 2004. He was born in Las Colonias, New Mexico on April 23, 1930 to Miguel and Paulita Roybal. He made his home in Pecos, NM in 1975, Benjamin was Mayordomo, and Eucharistic Minister of St. Anthony's Parish in Pecos prior to moving to Santa Fe six years ago. Currently he was a member of Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. He retired in 1991 after forty-five years with the AT&SF Railroad. His supervisory position took him away from home, traveling the railways throughout the North and Southwest. Benjamin continued his love for travel after his retirement, and it's no wonder; he had seen and experienced so many people and places and wanted to share them with his family. Every summer he and Deluvina would pack all ten kids in the back of their pickup, "con tuy camper", and off they went to explore this great country of ours. He also had a passion and great respect for the outdoors, camping and fishing was his therapy. But in his woodworking shop, making furniture and toys was his hobby and where he spent his latter years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Paulita Roybal; mother-in-law, Lucaria Gonzales, step-mother-in-law, Cora Gonzales, nephew, Stanley Roybal and great-granddaughter, Cierra Gonzales. Benjamin is survived by his loving/care-giving wife of 54 years, Deluvina G. SONNIER -- Cecil Sonnier, 73, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Sonnier; sons, Mike, Frank, and Steve; daughter, Patti; and grandchildren, Seth, Sophie, Don, Sam, Robert, and Lauren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara. Born on October 14, 1930 in Lafayette, LA, he went on to graduate from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in engineering. After a tour in the US Army he continued to serve his country as an employee at Sandia National Laboratories for 42 years. He served as Chairman of Safeguards of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management for 20 years, handing it over to his friend and colleague, Jim Larimore in 2002. He received a Distinguished Service Award for sustained performance in containment and surveillance, development, testing and implementation, and unselfish dedication to the advancement of the fundamental knowledge and professionalism of international safeguards. During this time he spent three years in Vienna, Austria, first with the US Mission and then with the International Atomic Energy Agency. He had a lifelong love of traveling and experiencing new places and cultures, traveling throughout Europe, Russia, Australia, and over 50 times to Japan. Cecil had dear friends in all corners of the world. No matter where Cecil traveled, he always returned to Albuquerque his favorite place in the world. He is remembered as a wise and loving father and a devoted husband. He was a wonderful family man who had unbelievable love for his children. He will be sorely missed. As a devout Catholic, we bid a tearful farewell to Cecil on his final journey home. A Mass of Resurrection was held Monday, June 21, 2004 at Risen Savior Catholic Community. THOMPSON -- Dorothy Morris Thompson, 93, beloved and devoted mother and grandmother passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004. She is survived by her sons, Chuck Thompson and wife, Clare, and Biff Thompson all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Bill Merrill, Nathan Thompson, Kaleena Thompson and Casey Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Thompson; and daughter, Carol Nell Merrill. A resident of El Paso, TX until 1983, she was an elementary school teacher for more than 25 years and a member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church. She moved to Albuquerque in 1983 to be near her children and grandchildren. A very caring person, she blessed the lives of those who knew her. We will miss her deeply. VELASQUEZ -- Juan Jose Velasquez, 28, passed away on June 17, 2004. He was born on May 18, 1976 in Roswell, NM and raised in Albuquerque. He is survived by his parents, Margarita and Juan Velasquez; a sister, Tara Velasquez; two nephews, Angelo and Oscar; a niece, Justice; aunts, Angelita Esqueda of Salinas, CA, Adella Jaramillo of Roswell, NM; uncles, Ynes Jaramillo of Roswell, NM and Gino Jaramillo of Roswell, NM. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Victoria and Lucas Jaramillo; aunts, Demetria Flores and Concha Lopez; and an uncle, Joe P. Jaramillo. Juan enjoyed hanging out with his friends, listening to music, watching sports. His favorite job experiences were job detailing, restoring furniture, and carpentry. The pallbearers will be Felix and Eric Jaramillo, Carlos Trujillo, Theresa Gonzales, Tabatha Serna, Leroy Acosta, Amanda Acosta, and Armando Borunda. Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at San Felipe De Neri Church, 2005 N. Plaza NW, with interment to follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery. VIVIANI -- Edna M. Viviani, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 20, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Barasch and husband, Guy of Albuquerque; sons, Thomas Viviani and wife, Claire of Los Lunas and Richard Viviani of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, J. Michael Barasch, Sean Viviani, Derek Viviani, Christina Viviani and Joseph Viviani. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Henry J. Viviani and son, Henry J. "Bud" Viviani, Jr. Edna was born in Gallup, NM. She worked as a nurse at St. Frances Gardens. Edna had a gentle grace and dignity about her and a wonderful sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and special friend. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Mount Calvary Chapel, 1900 Edith NE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. WESTERHAUS -- Mary Ann Westerhaus, 52, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, William G. Westerhaus; son, Raymond Westerhaus, both of Albuquerque; stepsons, James C. Westerhaus; and Tad Westerhaus; stepdaughter, Allison Poole; several grandchildren; mother, Eunice R. Heaton; and many, many friends. Growing up she was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church as was Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Assembly #58 in Albuquerque. She graduated from Sandia High School, attended college at ENMU and graduated from UNM. Mrs. Westerhaus spent four years in the Navy. She taught at Kids Castle and she loved and was devoted to the children there. WILES -- Janet Louise Wiles, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, has passed away at home Monday, June 21, 2004. Janet was born September 13, 1945 in Winfield, KS. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Larry Wiles of Albuquerque; daughters, Sandy Samp and husband, Ronal of Albuquerque, Dana Reynolds and husband, Michael of Las Cruces; Karen Sluga and husband, Ronney of Rio Rancho; seven grandsons, Tyler, Ryan, Jeremy and Zachary Samp, Kevin and Cameron Reynolds, Chase Sluga; one granddaughter, Rylee Sluga: mother, Marjorie Harmon of Winfield, KS, sister, Patricia Peters of Amarillo, TX; brother, James Harmon of Wellington, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wiles was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie Harmon. Janet's life and love was our family. Our family is her legacy.
