BABB -- Nancy Johnson Babb, Albuquerque resident since 1987, died Monday, May 31, 2004. Born December 6, 1927, Mrs. Babb had survived two husbands, Carl F. Johnson and Maynard A. Babb; and one son, Tracy G. Johnson. Mrs. Babb is survived by a sister, Mary Dian Molton and husband, Warren Molton of Kansas City; by a daughter, Robin Johnson and husband, David Wilson of Albuquerque; by a son, Nicholas Johnson and wife, Brandy Johnson of Yacolt, Washington; by four grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and by dearest friends, David and Sara Babb of Albuquerque. Cremation has occurred, handled by the Sunrise Society. Services will be held privately at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Albuquerque Friends of the Library, or to any good cause of choice. The family is deeply grateful to the Wellness and Health Care staffs at La Vida Llena, and to the Hospice services of Presbyterian Home Health, for their support and care.

BARBER -- Glen Byron Barber, 78, went to his eternal home on May 30, 2004. He is survived by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Friday June 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Belen. BARELA -- Charlie Barela, 51, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2004. He was born on April 16, 1953 in New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his mother Eualia Barela; father, Manuel Barela; brother, George Barela and sister, Ruth Zamora. Mr. Barela is survived by his daughters Christine Loidolt and husband Chris and Cecilia Barela; son, Charles Barela; brothers, Ernest Barela and wife Frances and Eddie Barela; sisters, Clorinda Romero and husband Pete, Dora Sena and husband Arthur, Eve Waggermen and Emily Lencioni and husband Mark; brother-in-law, Nestor Zamora; his grandchildren, Christopher, Derek and Alyxandria Loidolt. He will be deeply missed by his loving family. A rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. CAPONERA -- Richard T. Caponera, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1929, died on Monday, May 31, 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Caponera of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Tracy Bouvier and husband, Jerry of Flagstaff, AZ, and Carrie McGill and husband, Christopher of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jesse, and John; and sisters, Marie Lewis of Colorado Springs, CO, and Paulyne Harsch and husband, John of La Junta, CO. He was preceded in death in 1987 by his wife of 56 years, Concetta (Tina) Caponera; brothers, Ange and Phillip Caponera; and sister, Helen Caponera. Richard was born May 16, 1911 in La Junta, CO, and grew up working in his father's grocery store. He graduated from Brown's Business College and came to Albuquerque with AT & SF Railroad in 1929. He met and married his wife, Tina, in 1931. Richard was mentored by Arthur Bachechi in the wholesale grocery business and was a founding partner in Southwest Distributing Company, a lifelong endeavor. Richard jogged daily at Altura Park for 35 years, where he established many long-lasting friendships. Richard loved life and was loved by all who knew him. Services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 7500 Paseo Del Norte NE, with Father Francis X. Eggert officiating. CHAVEZ -- Tony Chavez, 67, a Belen resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 31, 2004. Tony was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He retired from the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. Tony loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Adelina Chavez, his brother, Gilbert and sister, Victoria. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia; his children and step children, Judy Sanchez and husband Pablo, Patricia Harper and husband Joe, Vicky Chavez, Anthony Chavez, Barbara Carrillo and husband Lorenzo, Jacqueline Swift and husband Craig, and Donna Rendon and husband Randy. COURTNEY -- Annabelle Chipps Courtney, 90, died May 29, 2004, after several years of battling a progressively serious illness. Mrs. Courtney was born November 19, 1913, tenth of the thirteen children of John Melvin Chipps and Hettie Jane Cool Chipps of Dyer, West Virginia. A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Courtney mastered many skills that were common in her youth but have since fallen into decline. She was an accomplished cook, gardener, seamstress, and quilter. She had a long-standing love of the patient art of fishing and was extremely proud of having caught a Citation Rainbow Trout on the Cranberry River at age 71. During her later years, she enjoyed painting in oils and pastels, developed a love of travel in the Southwest, was inspired by her exploration of Native American culture, and acquired her first driver's license at age 80. Married for nearly 55 years to Harold Dana Courtney, Sr., who preceded her in death, Mr. and Mrs. Courtney were longtime members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Fairmont, West Virginia. Dividing her time between Fairmont, West Virginia, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, during the last decade of her life, she also attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. Mrs. Courtney is survived by a daughter, three sons, and five daughters-in-law, Patricia A. Courtney and Hilda Saavedra of Albuquerque, Odbert C. Courtney and Darla Treat Courtney of Charles Town, West Virginia; and Richard W. Courtney and Elizabeth Ford Courtney, Donald M. Courtney and Pamela Wilson Courtney, and Patricia Williams Courtney, all of Fairmont. One son, Harold D. "Buck" Courtney, Jr., preceded her in death. Mrs. Courtney's passing is mourned by seven grandchildren and five grandchildren-in-law; by seven great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one brother: William Chipps; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends of all ages who will miss her smile, her humor, and her exceptional apple pies. In addition to her parents, her husband and her son, she was preceded in death by six sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Courtney's visitation and funeral were held at the Frey Home For Funerals in Fairmont, WV May 31 and June 1. Interment was in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. CROWSON -- Mr. Alvin William Crowson, age 88, a resident of Peralta, passed away on Memorial Day, May 31, 2004. He was an Old Time Country Fiddler and a WWII Naval Veteran. GARCIA -- Leonor G. Garcia, 87, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2004. She was born on December 25, 1916. Mom was born in Canyon Largo, and then she moved to Juan Tomas. When she was growing up she loved to sing, she would go to her padrino who taught her to sing alavados. She married our dad (Santiago Garcia) in 1933 in the church of San Felipe de Neri of historic old town. She was Devota Del Bless Sacraments Society. We loved spending time with our mom sewing, crocheting, quilting, embroidering and also playing bingo. She also attended San Jose Church for many years. She is preceded in death by her two sons Isidro and Don Garcia. Mrs. Garcia is survived by her children, Velma Garcia and Isidro, Rosalie Alderete and Ernest, Raymond Garcia and Stella and Carmen Garcia and Irene; 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The family of Leonor G. Garcia wishes to thank all for being with us in this need of prayer. We wish to thank our beautiful tias, Cecilia, Benny, Teresita and Irene for being with us. MOLLENKOPF -- M.W. "Bill" Mollenkopf, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Saturday, May 29, 2004. He is survived by his sons, William Howard Mollenkopf and wife, Judy of Cortez, Colorado and Bruce Evan Mollenkopf and wife, Debby, of Albuquerque; grandsons, Scott and wife, Audrey, Michael and fiancee, Doris and Adam and wife, Nikki; and great-granddaughter, Morgan. His wife, Shirlee Irene Mollenkopf on February 6, 2004 and his great- grandson, Jared, preceded him in death. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. Bill and Shirlee, along with her parents, Emma and Howard Foncanon, established Perfumes of the Desert in Old Town in 1948. Over the years they owned and managed Old Town Trading Post and Old Town Perfume and Candle with their son Bruce. He was active in the Rio Grande Lions Club and a member of the Elks Club. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. O'HERRON -- Mary Margaret (Peggy) O'Herron, age 72, resident of Albuquerque for 62 years died on Monday May 31, 2004. Peggy was born December 10, 1931 in Ludlow, Kentucky to the late Earl and Margaret (Brennan) O'Connell. Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Celine Blythe and husband, Joseph; and their daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, Barbara Ann Hamlet and husband, Roger; and their sons, Ben and Jason, Mary Ann Madrid and husband, Richard A; and their sons, Joshua and Nathan all of Albuquerque; sisters, Sally Beatty of Ohio and Sister Celine (Nell O'Connell) of the Carmalite Monestary in Santa Fe, N.M. Peggy was a loving wife to her late husband, John J. O'Herron who preceded her in death on November 16, 2002, a loving and selfless, mother, grandma and friend. SEDILLO -- Eddie "Lalo" Sedillo went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 31, 2004. Eddie was the oldest son of the late Telesfor and Adelina Sedillo. He was born on April 19, 1932. Eddie worked for the Los Lunas Public Schools for many years. He retired after over 25 years of employment with the school system. He was always closely involved with all aspects of athletics. He especially enjoyed basketball and football. Through the years he kept records of all of the professional football games throughout the season. Eddie was a devout member of the San Clemente Parish in Los Lunas. He is survived by his sisters, Cleo S. Elliott, of Los Lunas, Irene Cowan, of Fullerton, California, Vickie S. Perea and brother-in law Seff of Albuquerque; brothers, Telesfor Sedillo Jr. and his sister-in-law Martha, and Orlando all of Los Lunas. He also has several nephews and nieces whom he loved and many other relatives and friends. A rosary and memorial service was held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday evening, June 1, 2004. Funeral services are at 9:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church, Wednesday, June 2, 2004. STRASER -- Judy Straser, 74, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Judy was born June 9, 1929 in Lodz, Poland. She was a survivor of the Holocaust. WASSON -- Marie E. Wasson, age 77, died May 29, 2004 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a lifetime resident of New Mexico and a member of Queen of Heaven Parish, Senior Prayer Group of Queen of Heaven, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a Foster Grandparent for the Albuquerque Public Schools. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Wasson; her parents, Roman and Martina Ortega; sisters, Martina Angel and Angela Ortega; brother-in-law, Bennie Angel and Aladino Lopez Sr; nephews, Leonard Ortega and Aladino Lopez Jr; survivors include her husband, Arthur Wasson; daughter-in-law, Sue Wasson; sister, Mercedes Lopez; special aunt, Adela Gurduno all of Albuquerque; two brothers, Marcos Ortega and wife, Marcella of Anton Chico, NM and Pacomio Ortega and wife, Ute of Las Vegas, NM; one Goddaughter, Elizabeth Ortega-Gingrich of Claremont, CA; three Godsons, Robert Ortega of Las Vegas, NM, Larry Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM, and James Patrick Wasson of Carlsbad, NM; numerous nieces and nephews, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Church, 5310 Claremont. WINTERS -- Greg Winters, 52, a resident of New Mexico for 25 years, died Friday, May 28, 2004. He is survived by his son, Keenan G. Winters of Albuquerque; sisters, Pat Escalente and husband, Richard of San Dimas, CA, Kathleen Winters of Diamond Bar, CA and Colleen Ocello and husband, Jim of Whittier, CA; brothers, Tom Winters and wife, Jeri of Claremont, CA and Rick Winters of Bosque Farms; and friends, Marcella, Elizabeth, Sarah, Edward, Phillip, and Gregory Baca, all of Albuquerque. Greg was an artist and played the guitar. He worked for Adelante Development Center. Cremation has taken place.
