ARFMAN -- Col. John Frederick Arfman (US Army-Ret), 92, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2004, in his sleep of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Ann, in 1997. John was born in New York City on April 5, 1911, graduated from James Monroe High School in NYC in 1929 and went on to attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, graduating in 1933 with a degree in Civil Engineering and a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve. After working for Consolidated Edison Co. in his home town of New York City, he accepted an active duty commission in the regular Army in 1938. During the early part of World War II, he helped form and train new engineering battalions throughout the country. While stationed in Boise, Idaho in 1943, he met his wife-to-be, Elizabeth Ann "Ban" Barber, and were married in Greenville, SC, on September 23, 1943. Soon thereafter, John deployed to the Pacific theater where he spent most of his time building airfields and military bases. After the war ended, he was assigned to the Military Advisory Group in Manila, Philippine Islands where his wife joined him in 1946. It was in the Philippines where their first child, John Jr., was born in 1948. Two more sons, Richard Lee and Frederick Christopher, followed in Iowa City, IA, in 1950 and 1951, and daughters, Susan Leigh in New Orleans in 1953 and Joanne Lynn in Albuquerque in 1961. John's last assignment before retiring in 1963 was as the Chief Engineer, Albuquerque District, for the Corps of Engineers. After retiring from the Army, he worked for a private company and then for the State of New Mexico as the Chief Engineer of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. In 1972, he retired for good. John is survived by his son, John and his wife, Peggy of Albuquerque; son, Richard, his wife, Kim and daughters, Katie and Maggie of Augusta, GA; son, Fred, his wife, Karen and sons, Calvin and Jake of Albuquerque; daughter, Susan of Albuquerque; and daughter, Joanne Chaplin, her husband, Douglas and children, Justin and Victoria of Rio Rancho, NM. "The Colonel," will be dearly remembered by his children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors. The family would also like to thank all the wonderful angels at both Crossroads Hospice and Maxim Healthcare who helped to fill John's last days with compassion, love, and caring. Services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. BAIER -- Iva Francis Baier, age 68, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 11, 2004. Iva was born and raised in Ralston, NE. Iva lived in Rio Rancho/ Albuquerque the last 16 years. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church located at 1004 24th Street, Rio Rancho.

CHERRYHOLMES -- Willie Cherryholmes. To honor his life, his daughter and grandchildren have arranged a memorial tribute to rejoice in his life. Mr. Cherryholmes was a Building Official with the City of Rio Rancho since 1987 and was the Building Inspection Supervisor since 2002. Mr. Cherryholmes was a vital part of the development in the City of Rio Rancho and was well respected. The memorial is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Haynes Park in Rio Rancho. GARVEY -- Consuelo Chavez Garvey passed away March 15, 2004 in Albuquerque at the age of 73. She was born April 22, 1930 in Lamy, NM She moved to Santa Fe in 1940. She later moved to Albuquerque in 1962. Consuelo is preceded in death by her daughter, Jeannie Garvey; siblings, Estella Martinez, Margarito Chavez, Fermin Chavez, Magdalena Gallegos and parents, Dionicio and Angelita Chavez. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ortiz, Consuelo Garvey-Sierra, Catherine Garvey; grandchildren, Adam Maestas and Connie Sierra; siblings, Guadalupe Chavez and wife, Simona, Celestino Chavez and wife, Dorthey, Santana Archuleta and husband, Kennith, Antonia Romero, and Marcos and Theresa Sanchez; and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary for Mrs. Garvey will be recited on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated following the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. GREENSTREET -- Leora G. Greenstreet died on March 14, 2004 in Albuquerque. She had been a resident of Bear Canyon Estates since 1997. Leora was born in Oklahoma on July 12, 1914. She spent her early years in southeast Kansas and later in Lebanon, MO, where she met and married John Greenstreet in 1937. They lived in Glenns Ferry, ID, from 1943 to 1970, when they moved to Pocatello, ID. John died in 1984 and Leora remained there until 1997. She is survived by a brother, John Holler, of Sonora, CA; a son, J.E. Greenstreet, and his wife, Helen, of Albuquerque; a daughter, Doris Anne Brown, and her husband, Charlie, of Sun Lakes, AZ; four grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, friend, and neighbor, and will be greatly missed. Interment will be in Pocatello, ID. GRIEGO -- Paul J. Griego died Sunday, March 14, 2004 in Albuquerque at the age of 78. Mr. Griego is preceded in death by his wife, Frances P. INBODEN -- Edward G. Inboden, 85 of Chatsworth, IL, formerly of Albuquerque, died Friday, March 12, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Muriel Inboden; daughter, Carol Flowers of Albuquerque; four stepchildren, Gary Brandt and wife, Joy of Magnolia, DE, Beverly Zorn and husband, John of Piper City, Donna Shriver and husband, Mike of Chatsworth, IL, and Jim Brandt and wife, Sue of Kankakee, IL; and six stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Grise in 1995; granddaughter, Cindy Lee Merrick in 1968; two brothers; and one sister. Edward was born June 27, 1918 in Enon Valley, PA to George and Minnie Stephenson Inboden. He married Muriel Brandt in November 1995 in Chatsworth. Edward served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps and later retired from General Electric. He was a member of Masonic Hiram Lodge 13, a 32nd-degree member of Scottish Rite of Santa Fe, and a 50-year member of Ballut Abyad Shrine Center. Edward was a charter member of the safety patrol which later became the Ansars where he was president numerous times. He also belonged to the American Legion and VFW Post 49. JERNIGAN -- Earl E. Jernigan, 84, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 13, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Jernigan of Albuquerque; daughter, Cheryl Brownlee and husband, Bill of Truth or Consequences, NM; son, Ron E. Jernigan and wife, Frances of Aztec, NM; grandchildren, Larry Brownlee and wife, Danette, Scott Brownlee, Tama Duncan and husband, Bill, Kim Andregg and husband, Wayne, Dave Jernigan and wife, Heather, Kristine Rose and husband, Patrick, Nikki Jernigan, and Kelly Jernigan; and ten great-grandchildren. KLUVER -- Helen Lyons Kluver, formerly of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, peacefully died at home at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Los Alamos on Sunday morning, March 14, 2004. She was 93. She was born in Excelsior, Minnesota in 1911, the eldest of seven children. She experienced and rose to all the challenges and changes of the 20th century, through which she lived. She was a "flapper", who loved their 1931 Model A. She never forgot the depression and its lessons. During World War II, she was a plane spotter in California during the constant air raid alerts and then began her career working for the military in the Panama Canal Zone. After the war, she moved to Albuquerque and worked for eighteen years at Sandia National Laboratories. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Thomson of Santa Fe, and Candace Frostenson of Los Alamos, and sons-in-law, James Thomson and Carl Frostenson. Helen's special delight were grandchildren, Anne, James, Chris and David Thomson, and Day and Sky Frostenson, and four great grandchildren. A private Service of Burial of the Dead will be held at the Episcopalian Parish Church of St. Barnabas on the Desert in Scottsdale, Arizona. She will join her husband of fifty-one years, Wessel Kluver, who died in 1985, in the Memorial Garden at St. Barnabas Church. She always danced when she could and was ready for the next adventure. May the Lord bless her and keep her; May the Lord make His face shine upon her, and be gracious unto her; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon her and give her peace. MISCH -- Allen Misch, M.D., 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1987, died Sunday, March 14, 2004. Dr. Misch was a Radiologist at Presbyterian Hospital 1987 to 1995. Dr. Misch was a radiologist in Sheboygan, WI from 1972 to 1987. He spent three years at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee completing training as a radiologist. From 1955 to 1969, Dr. Misch was a general practitioner in Cedarburg, WI. SANDOVAL -- Pilar T. Sandoval, 84, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2004. She was born on September 5, 1919 in Alameda, New Mexico. Mrs. Sandoval is preceded in death by her husband, Miguel Sandoval and her son Tomas Sandoval. She is survived by her children, Blas Sandoval and wife Alice of Los Lunas, NM, Viola Hererra and husband Paul, Carol Sanchez and husband Benny, Elias Sandoval and wife Linda, Richard Sandoval and Bobbi Sandoval all of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Nancy Sandoval; her brother, Jose Trujillo; 37 grandchildren and 73 great grandchildren. Pilar will be deeply missed by her loving family. WEBB- -- Jessie B. Webb, age 102, resident of Albuquerque since 1944, entered her humble abode in Heaven on Thursday, March 11, 2004. She is reunited with her husband, Hamilton Webb; mother, Catherine Coleman and father, Sam Neil; sisters, Alta Jones, Lener Jones, Margie Lee Jones and Anniebell Neal; brothers, Roy Jones, Dee Jones, Homer Jones, Verge Jones, Lee Winkfield, and Luciel Stewart; daughter, Dezel Harris; sons, Henry Webb, and Leroy Webb. She patiently awaits her daughters, Geneva Coleman and Catherine Bradford; son, Hamilton Webb, all of Albuquerque; and a host of nieces, nephews; grandchildren, great; great-great; and great-great-great-grandchildren. She was founder and member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a faithful employee of Goodwill Inc. for 32 years in which she retired at age 95. WONG -- Henry L. Wong Sr. (Wong,Chew Pien), 64, loving husband, father, father- In-law and grandfather passed away on March 11, 2004. Born in Canton, China and immigrated to the United States in 1953. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1967. He owned and operated The Chinese Garden Restaurant for 16 years. He was a renowned Chef in Chinese Cuisine and other fine foods. He is survived by his loving wife, Jolene J. Wong; his son, Henry L. Wong Jr. and wife, Mellissa; grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Wong all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters; and several other honorary grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Fitzgerald & Son from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with Wake Service to immediately follow.
