BORDER -- Anna Belle Border, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Friday, March 5, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Vasquez of Albuquerque; son, Ronnie Tobias of Reading, PA; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister. She was a member of Northdale Baptist Church. Anna Belle was a state employee for 19 years and a prominent member of the American Business Women's Association and Mountain View Rebekah Lodge # 36. Anna Belle loved making friends with anyone she met and collecting things. Services will be Wednesday, time pending, at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. BURCHETT -- Steven N. Burchett, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died very suddenly Friday morning, March 5, 2004. Steve is survived by his wife, Sue Burchett; daughter, Sherri L. Weinmaster and husband, Eric, of Ft. Collins, CO; son, Spencer N. Burchett of Ft. Collins, CO; grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah and Zachary Weinmaster; brother, Wendell Burchett and wife, Gabby, of Boulder, CO; sister, Beth Jackson and husband, Bill, of Seiling, OK; brother, Stuart Burchett and wife, Carolyn, of Weatherford, OK; brother-in-law, Harry Fenimore of Stillwater, OK; mother-in-law, Ersel Hedrick of Seiling, OK; brothers-in-law, Sid Hedrick of Seiling, OK and Bruce Hedrick of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Ray and Vera Burchett and sister, Phyllis Fenimore. Steve was a member of Hoffmantown Church. He was employed with Sandia National Labs for 36 years. CASTELLANO -- Rosella (Rosie) Lujan Castellano. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Rosie is reunited with her mother, father, grandparents and brother on March 1, 2004. Rosie was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Maria Archuleta and Jose G. Lujan on August 19, 1944. She was a 1963 graduate of Santa Fe High School. She married Richard Castellano on February 13, 1965. Rosie worked at various offices for the State of New Mexico and retired in 1998 from the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. After her retirement, she worked at Public Service Company of New Mexico, College of Santa Fe and Wells Fargo Bank. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Altar Society and a volunteer for the Santa Fe Senior Citizens Center in the Kitchen, Bingo and sewing classes. Her parents, Jose G. and Maria A. Lujan, her brother Tony Lujan and her grandparents preceded Rosie in death. She is survived by her children, Ruth Ann, Rick and Keith; son-in-law, Byron Piatt, treasured grandchildren Rochelle and Bryan Piatt; brothers Rudy and Juan; sisters, Viola Smith, Priscilla Serna, Christine Garcia and Nadine Day, sisters-in-law Fermie Lujan, Kristi Lujan, Tina Lujan, brothers-in-law, Robert Serna, Stephen Day and Pat Garcia as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. A viewing will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary following at 7:00 p.m. to be recited by the Our Lady of Guadalupe Alter Society. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Castellano, Stephen Day, Robert Serna, Patricio Garcia, Byron Piatt and Christopher Day. COLLINS -- Thomas V. Collins, 84 went home to be with the Lord, March 5, 2004. A resident of Albuquerque since 1962, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Collins, son Steven Collins and wife Danette of Albuquerque, and daughters Cheryl Eckart and husband J. Michael Eckart of Albuquerque, and Janice Houle and husband Andre' Houle of Belen; grandchildren Scot Collins, Danielle and Elyse Eckart and Timothy Houle; sisters Flo Baldridge of Yucaipa, CA and Lucille Honea of Waco, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents W. T. and Katherine Collins, brother Gene Collins, sisters Naomi Schmedthorst, Hazel Bertrand and Vickie Barnes. Tom was born November 19, 1919 in Waco, TX leaving there in 1939 for Los Angeles, CA. From there, he served in Special Forces entertaining the troops before enlisting in the Air Force during WWII. It was while he was stationed at Chanute Field, IL that he met his wife. They were married in Danville, IL and moved to Los Angeles where he began a career in the insurance business. After 15 years in California, he was transferred to Albuquerque as the District Manager for Woodman Accident and Life Insurance Co. In 1972, he opened his own independent casualty agency. When that was sold in 1979, he was ordained to the ministry and served as pastor and interim pastor of several Albuquerque churches. The last few years it was his joy to perform services in several retirement homes, volunteering in many different ministries serving the Lord wherever he was needed. Tom was the co-founder of Trinity Southwest University with his son, Dr. Steven Collins. He was a loving caring husband, father and grandfather, encouraging and delighting in his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He treasured his many friends and will always be remembered for his tremendous generosity of spirit, kindness and cheerful, loving nature. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2004 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE. CRISP -- Ira Vincent "Vince" Crisp, age 86, died on Friday, February 13, 2004 in Clayton, New Mexico . I. V. "Vince" was born May 2, 1917 on the family homestead in Thomas, NM to Ira Nain Crisp and Minnie Alice (Cardwell) Crisp. At age 13, "Vince" became a working cowboy when he helped drive a herd of horses to the 101 Ranch in northern Oklahoma. I.V. "Vince" married Irene Christian in 1939 and they started their own ranch, Echoing Hoof Ranch, on the Springer Highway in 1953. In 1955 he helped drive a herd of twenty buffalo from the Oklahoma Panhandle to a newly built attraction called Ft. Jordan, north of Clayton. Vince was often known for his ornate welding work as evident by the many gates and ranch decor on his home ranch. Ever present in the community, he always rode in the 4th of July Parade in Clayton. His many awards include being named Union County Old-Timer and recently being awarded the Buck Ramsey Cowboy Lifetime Achievement Award on September 20, 2003 in Nara Visa, NM. The award is to honor the recipient for fostering and living the "Cowboy Way of Life". As Vince often enjoyed doing for family and friends, he sang "Punchin' the Dough", about a Trail Drive Cook, and "Zebra Dunn", during the awards ceremony. A portrait of Vince by artist Mona Tanzola, is on display at the Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, NM. He was preceded in death by his above mentioned parents, and by 7 siblings. Vincent is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene Crisp of Clayton, NM; one daughter, Dr. Carleen Lazzell and her husband, Rue of Albuquerque; one son, Bill Crisp and his wife, Pat of Clayton, NM; seven grandchildren, including Ruleen Lazzell White and Renee Lazzell DiBello formerly of Albuquerque; seven great-granddaughters; one brother, Norman Crisp and his wife, Dean and two sisters, Lorenne Rigsby and her husband, Ret. Col. Cecil Rigsby and Loretta West. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Benny Gilbert Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Farmers and Stockmans Bank in Clayton, or to the Memorial of your choice. DAVID -- Israel Albert David passed away on March 5, 2004 and is survived by his wife, Shlomit; his son Jacob; his daughter, Karen; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer; his son-in-law, Vincent; his grandson, Isaac; and his granddaughter, Raisel. He is also survived by many relatives in Israel, Brazil, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and other cities in the USA. He and his wife owned Weinstein Investments and Kachina World and previously owned Bulk Mail Services, one of six companies this entrepreneur established in his lifetime. Israel was born on August 2, 1933. He graduated from the University of Phoenix with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. He was a Broker, Realtor, a member of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau of NM. He was also a member of Chabad of NM, the Fellowship of the Desert (Chavurat HaMidbar), belonged to the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, was a board member of the Inez Neighborhood Association, Sigma Chi Fraternity, and was the founder of Izzy's Incredibles, a networking group. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Funeral arrangements are with Strong-Thorne Mortuary. DOMMER -- Richard Martin Dommer, died February 28, 2004. He was much loved by his surviving children, Tony and Tina Dommer; parents, Rev. Robert Dommer and Hazel Lessen and husband, Arthur; sisters, Mary Dommer, Susan Hanna and husband Jim, and Julie Wright; nine nieces and nephews and many friends. Rick was born March 26, 1951 in Tacoma, WA. He attended Immanuel Lutheran College and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, WI and the University of New Mexico. Rick served his country in the Vietnam War. He was involved in charitable work for many years, assisting those more needy than himself. FLORENCIA -- Elaine Florencia Bennett, age 55, passed away March 4, 2004 in Las Vegas, NM. Elaine was born in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Manuel and Eloisa Flores Apodaca. She attended schools in Albuquerque. Elaine worked for the United States Government for many years and was also a Missionary serving in the Philippines. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she loved to go and sing her favorite hymns. She was also a member of Las Hijas de Maria and the Campos Senior Citizens. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her sister Patsy Chavez of Albuquerque, her Brother Milton Apodaca of California, her Aunt Luz Chavez of Santa Rosa and her cousin Ernie Chavez and wife Grace of Santa Rosa along with numerous friends and relatives. Cremation has taken place and a rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 7, at 7:00 from St. Rose Church in Santa Rosa. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 9, at 10:00 am also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernie Chavez, Dennis Chavez, Jeff Chavez, Joe Garcia, Glenn Chavez, Dominic Chavez and Gilbert Chavez. FRENCH -- Mary Ella French, 79, died Thursday, March 4, 2004. A transplanted native of Oklahoma in 1948, Mary loved the wide open space of New Mexico, its history, culture, scenic vistas, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Her beloved father and mother, Hubert and Hattie Mae Vineyard preceded her in death. GARRETT -- Sylvia Smith Garrett, 93, died March 3, 2004, preceded in death by her parents, John Ross and Pearl Morris Smith; brother, Dr. Curtis Smith; husband, Dr. Paul Garrett; and granddaughter, Lorri Dreier; and survived by her sister, Betsy Ross Garrett; daughters and sons-in-law, Gaylia and Richard Wade, and Paulyn and Jerry West; grandson and wife, Rev. Christopher and Amy Dreier; and nephew and grandnephew, Gary and Blake Garrett. Sylvia met Paul in college--he a talented tenor and she an accomplished violinist. They married January 14, 1933, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse until Paul entered the ministry. They pastored in McAllen, Texarkana, and Houston, Texas, moving to Dallas and rearing two daughters. Paul was District Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene there, and Sylvia was the gracious and godly wife, mother, and hostess. The couple retired in Erick, Oklahoma; they had been married 64 years when Paul died in 1997. Richard and Gaylia brought Sylvia to Albuquerque to live with them. She next lived happily and well-cared for at Laurel Heights Alzheimer's Unit; for the last 3 1/ 2 days, she was lovingly supported at Lovelace-Sandia Hospice; now she is a permanent resident in heaven in the Presence of her Savior! Service will be Monday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. at Aspen, Rev. Christopher Dreier officiating.

HAASE -- Jaunita "Nita" Haase, 81, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004. She is survived by her son, Max M. Haase and his wife, Brenda of Rainelle, W.V.; daughter, Kay C. Majorowicz of Albuquerque; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Eva Marie Raley of Houston, TX and Ada Mae Horton of Azle, TX. Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Elton L. Haase and son, Tex E. Haase. She volunteered for many years at the Veteran's Hospital and was a long time member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. HOOPER -- Louisa May Hooper passed away on March 4, 2004 at Monzano Del Sol here in Albuquerque. She was 92. Louisa was a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, and was best known for her fabulous garden of iris and dahlias. She won numerous awards at the State Fair for her flowers, and was quite active in several local garden clubs. Louisa is survived by her daughter, Linda Ward; her four grandchildren, Greg, Beth, Stephanie and Steve Herlein; her two younger sisters, Grace and Paula Sapier, and thier children Candy and Gigi, and Mark. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road N.E. on Saturday March 13, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Louisa suffered from dementia for the last years of her life and lost her husband and son to cancer. The family suggests memorial contribution to the Alzheimer's Association (800-272-3900) or the American Cancer Society (800-ACS-2345).

KNEPPER -- Ada M. Knepper (Brown), 94, passed on peacefully in her sleep at Manor Care Sandia, February 22, 2004. She is survived by her son, Joseph E. Knepper and wife, Patricia; daughter, Lucinda Shellenberger and husband, Edwin; seven grandchildren, Sherry Shellenberger and partner, Mary Sue Williams, Kristy Doherty and friend, Steve Martorana, Joseph E. Knepper III and wife, Colleen, Shelley Brethouwer and husband, Lloyd, Nancy Knepper, Edwin L. Shellenberger III, and Sandra Guidice and husband, Rafe; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Bridgette, Matthew, Peter Knepper, Nicholas and Heather Doherty, and Ryan Guidice; two sisters-in-law, Vera Lambert and Martha Reinholdt. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 62 years, Joseph E. Knepper Sr.; mother, Bertha Brown; brothers, John Thomas and Charles Brown; and grandson, Mark Knepper. She was born on April 12, 1909 in Altoona, PA. She enjoyed her life of 50 years in Altoona, PA, 23 years in San Diego, CA and 22 years in Albuquerque. She was a devoted wife and mother. KNODEL -- Larry R. 1940 - 2004 Larry R. Knodel, age 64, a resident of Los Lunas passed away in an Albuquerque hospital on Friday, March 5, 2004. He was a strong believing Christian. Larry retired from the trucking industry after 42 years of service. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing and he never missed an opportunity to be in the mountains with his family. He was a true animal lover who never could say no to a stray. His family was his life and he worked hard to see that they were always happy. Thanksgiving and Christmas were very special to Larry and he made sure that all of his family and friends would gather together when they could. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Shirley of the family home in Los Lunas; three children, Ashley Guy Word, and Tandra R. Rodgers of Colorado, and Leslie R. Knodel of New Mexico; one grandson, Brad Smith and one granddaughter, Sandra Elaine Smith both of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by two close friends that he considered his brother and sister, Teddy and Isabel Martinez and their family of Bosque Farms, New Mexico. All services will be held at Romero Funeral Home beginning with a visitation on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. With love and respect for Larry's wishes, cremation will then take place. KROHN -- Kurt Henry, in loving memory, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at the age of 50. A longtime resident of Albuquerque, Kurt is survived by his wife and love of 28 years, Leslie and cherished son, Dirk. MCCLINTOCK -- Wayne Franklin McClintock, age 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 28, 2004. Survivors include daughter Annette Cutler and husband Alvin, of Barrie Ontario Canada; son Larry W. McClintock and wife Margaret, of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; companion Hazel, from 1993 to 2002. He is preceded in death by wife Madge in 1992, and son Montie Rae in 1998. Mr. McClintock traveled throughout Northeastern New Mexico for 25 years, selling for Kimball Grocery. He was also an avid trout fisherman. His family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Ladera Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their love and professional care of Mr. McClintock. MORRISON -- Ben Morrison. We lost Ben on March 5, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Ben Jr. and Tracy and his wife, Debbie, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Belinda of Enid, OK; ten grandchildren, Ben and Sara Dillon, Michelle Breitencamp, Stephen Dillon, Amy Dillon, Dara Morrison, James Morrison Jeffrey Goetz, Traci Morrison, Rebecca Morrison, and 1 great grandchild, Austin Ramos; two brothers, Roy Morrison and Cecil Morrison; two sisters, Ida Morrison and Lavelle Nagel; four stepsons, Terry Bixler and his wife Ann of Denver, CO, Mike Bixler and his wife Carolyn of Aztec, NM, Marty Bixler of Aztec, NM, and Joel Bixler and his wife Brenda of Denver, CO. Ben was born on a farm near Brownwood, TX in 1918 to Charles and Ida Morrison. He went to May High School and participated in their sports programs. He attended Sam Houston University until World War II started. He joined the Army and served in the European Theatre. When the war was over, he volunteered to stay in Germany for another year and served at the Nuremburg trials. He then completed college and graduated from Sam Houston University. Ben came to New Mexico in 1960. He lived in Albuquerque, except for the nine years he spent in Socorro. Ben loves playing bridge, square dancing, and gardening, especially the flowers that decorated his backyard. Most of all, Ben loved his church and family and everyone loved Ben. He leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends and his church family. Services will be held at the Taylor Ranch Baptist Church, 6400 Golf Course Rd. NW on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Tim Marrow, officiating. NEEL -- Walter I. Neel, 91, a life time resident of Albuquerque, died on Thursday, March 4, 2004. He is survived by his sons, Frank H. Neel and his wife, Maggie, Leslie A. Neel and wife, Colleen, and Melvin R. Neel and wife, Jimmie all of Albuquerque; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Foster of Silver City, NM and Bette Wilkes of Albuquerque; step-daughters, Joyce Mahnke and husband, Richard and Vickie McClure and husband, Hubert both of Placitas, NM. Walter is preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Marie Neel on February 13, 1990, his second wife, Norma Corcoran Neel in 1997 and grandson, Randy Neel in 1990. He worked as a plant supervisor with PNM, retiring after 35 years of service. Walter loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile, ride motorcycles, play softball and bowl. PRUNER -- Frances Archambeau Pruner, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, devoted Christian, aunt, great -aunt, great-great aunt, sister, and devoted friend was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, March 5, 2004. She was born August 7, 1906 to Charles and Katie Archambeau near Hog Shooter Creek, close to Bartlesville, Oklahoma Territory. Frances received her education at the Haskell Indian School and graduated from business college in Lawrence, Kansas. She was co-owner of the Durango Fashion Furs in Durango, CO. She was a retired Secretary with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She was a member of Eastern Star, Ladies Elks, Pilot Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Durango, CO., a member of the Haskell Club and the Cherokee Club in Albuquerque. In 1988, Frances married Charles Beaver Pruner who preceded her in death on May 27, 1997. Her beloved sister Bessi Vergus Goombi also preceded her in death on February 18, 2004. She is survived by her niece Bonnie Allen (Richard) of Palmer Lake, CO; nephew Larry Archambeau (Ruth); niece Frances Tsoodle (Wendell), of Albuquerque; nephew Wes C. Goombi (Annie Bell) of Mt. RYAN -- Alberta Irene "Tootie" Ryan passed away early Friday morning at Manzano del Sol Retirement Home. Alberta was one of ten children born to Herman and Mary Bartels of Clinton, IA. A passionate and benevolent mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she graced the world with her presence for more than 81 years. Raising five children while working a job, she was also an avid outdoor person. She was a nonstop whirlwind in her garden and in her whole life in general. She is survived by her sister, Ella May Humphrey of Clinton, IA; two sons, Patrick and Paul; three daughters, Mary, Teresa, and Nancy; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. SLATTERY -- Robert G. Slattery, 53, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Dickinson; son, Brendon Slattery; parents, Richard and Marjorie Slattery; brother, Ed Slattery and wife, Mary; nieces, Emily and Hannah; nephew, Ben; and three cousins and their families. Bob was born in Washington, DC and raised in a log cabin near Rockville, MD until he and his family relocated to Davenport, IA when he was 13. He received his BA in archeology from the University of Iowa and came to NM to do field work, first with UNM and later the School of American Research. He started in the construction business in Santa Fe in 1973 and became proficient in many building styles. He tried his hand at writing and publishing in the early 80's, which is how he met Marianne, his wife and partner. They moved to Albuquerque in 1985, where Bob started Robert Slattery Construction, Inc., which has won numerous awards for custom homes and remodeling. Bob was an active member of the Home Builders of Central New Mexico, serving on the Board of Directors, as chairman of the Remodelors Council, and as a founding member and chairman of the Custom Builders Council. He was also active in efforts to institute green building and green development standards locally. He was known as an intelligent, creative and ethical professional---which, with his boyish grin and positive energy, made him a much respected and loved member of our community. WALLEY -- Nancy Ann Walley, 60, rode a happy trail into the gates of heaven on March 3, 2004. Nancy was born December 20, 1943 in Kansas City, MO. She was adopted by Carol and Togo Klein, and was moved to Hazen, ND. After their father passed away, Carol moved Nancy and her brother, Phillip to Albuquerque, NM where she was able to grow up loving her favorite things, horses and cowboys. Nancy was an avid animal and horse lover, with Roy Rogers as her hero. As Nancy grew up, she realized her passion of caring for others. At the age of 14, she became a candy striper for Presbyterian Hospital. Her desire to help people carried her through decades of nursing. In January of 2004, Nancy was presented an award from Presbyterian for 43 years of dedicated service. Remembered by many as a "team player", she was always someone that you could turn to for help. Nancy celebrated her 30th Anniversary to Steven Walley on August 25, 2004. They have always been the best of friends, and their love for each other spanned galaxies. They built a life together and had two sons, Eric and Ryan. They both found enjoyment in activities such as camping, dancing, and horseback riding. Nancy and Steve supported their boys through school, college, little league, and especially Ryan's battle with cancer. Nancy, who is a cancer victim, fought the disease courageously for a year. Her family and friends will never forget the strength that she possessed, and the love that she gave so freely. She is survived by her husband, Steven Walley; sons, Eric and Ryan Walley; brother, Phil Klein; mother-in-law, Mary Walley; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jennie Walley. WARREN -- Diane Warren, 61, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at her daughter's home in Sandia Park, NM after a valiant two-year battle with cancer. Diane was a lifelong resident of El Paso who had recently relocated to Albuquerque. She held a BA in Education and MA degrees in Professional Writing/ Rhetoric and Education Administration. She had 27 combined years of teaching experience at schools including El Paso Community College and UTEP. She was also a Language Arts Facilitator for EPISD and a Language Arts Consultant for HR&W Publishers. She most recently served as Assistant Principal at Hornedo Middle School. Diane is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Fowler (husband, Mark); and her two grandchildren, Hayley and Christian Fowler of Sandia Park. Other survivors include her uncle, Vincent Long (wife, Pearl) of El Paso; and four cousins, Deborah and Mike Long of El Paso, Craig Long (wife, Dottie) of Houston, TX and Carolyn Armstrong (husband, Tom) of Las Vegas, NV. WENGER -- James Elwin Wenger-LCDR, USN (Ret) born April 19, 1915 in Minneapolis, MN, passed away at home unexpectedly on March 4, 2004. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1933 and served honorably for 28 years. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a past president of the local chapter of PHSA. After retiring from the Navy, he earned a BS in Education at NMSU and a MA at UNM. He taught math for 16 years at Los Lunas Junior High. After retiring from teaching, he and his wife traveled extensively. He was a 32ND degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member and Past Master of Albuquerque Lodge #60. He is survived by Martha, his wife of 51 years; daughters Diana Roberts of Torrance, CA; Sandra Kurata of Pearl City, HI; Carol Orr and husband Tom of Graham, WA; Laura Shifflett and husband Chuck of the Netherlands; son James, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Martha Roberts of Signal Hill, CA; sisters, Marguarite Frush of Bloomington, MN; Lorraine Conradi of St. Louis Park, MN; Grace Carlson and husband Curt, of Washburn, ND; brothers, Dick Wenger and wife Pat, of McKean, PA, and Donald Wenger and wife Cindy, of Austin, TX. He was a reading and language specialist with Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute for 20 years. Prior to BIA employment he taught at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He was proud of being a teacher for over 35 years, dedicated to the well being of his students. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Missouri. WILKENS -- Victor James Wilkins passed away at home, Friday, February 27, 2004. Victor Wilkins was born March 20, 1916 in Hillman, Michigan and had been a New Mexico resident since 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy on shipboard during WWII and received five Bronze Stars as a result of his service in the Philippine and Asian Pacific Theaters. Mr. Wilkins was retired from his career with the Federal Bureau of Land Management. Victor Wilkins is survived by his wife, Judith Wilkins; daughters, Kay Badge of Crystal Springs, MI, Barbara Sayles of Pomona CA, Vicky Williams of Lubbock, TX; sons, Victor Michael Wilkins of Tempe, AZ, Bill Wilkins of Seligman, AZ, and Roy Bruce Wilkins of Scottsdale, AZ. The Interment Service will be held Monday, March 8, 2004, 3:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Diabetic Research Foundation. A reception for friends and family will be held after the Interment at 5:30 p.m. The reception will be at 3101 Lykers Dr., Albuquerque, NM.

WISE -- Jack D. Wise went home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2004 at the Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida. In his earlier years, Jack earned a football scholarship to University of South Carolina, then joined the Navy and cooked for the Naval Officers. After his service he began his career as a butcher for various grocery chains and retired from Furr's in Albuquerque. Jack was an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. He began organic gardening, joined the South Valley Growers Assn. and was a member of the Board of Directors. He was also an active member of Heritage Christian Fellowship. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Frances Marie; daughter, Renee Downing of South Carolina; sisters, Joyce Bachman and Margaret Dillahay of South Carolina, Norma Marsh of Florida and Mary Moore Whiteley of California; four grandchildren in South Carolina and one in Mississippi, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jimmie Fern Fraser. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Christian Fellowship, 11104 Menaul Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87112, March 11, 2004, 11:00 a.m., Pastor Tim Maxwell will be officiating. Donations may be made to Cancer Research, in lieu of flowers. Interment will take place at Vista Verde Memorial Park.
