BRANDIGER -- Jan Brandiger Avegalio passed away on February 3, 2004 in American Samoa, where she was laid to rest. After a long battle with MS she will be greatly missed, but her spirit has been freed from the body that held her captive. She was born on September 22, 1954 in Denver, CO, and grew up in Albuquerque. She attended Our Lady of the Assumption School and St. Pius X High School. She is survived by her husband, Edward C. (Kuki) Avegalio of American Samoa; her son, Brian Walker and wife, Jennifer of Las Cruces; daughter, Tara Graves and husband, Keith of Houston, Texas, son, Jason Helmich and wife, Nina, of American Samoa, four grandchildren; parents, Joe and Mary Jane Brandiger, as well as sisters, Chris Gentry, Julie Avery, Maryann Jones and brother, Tony Brandiger. A memorial mass will be celebrated by her cousin, Father Patrick Dolan of Denver, on Saturday, March 6, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, corner of Tennesee and Lomas NE, Albuquerque. BROWN -- Audie Brown, 84, passed away Monday, March 1, 2004. He had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1958 after moving here from Unionville, Missouri. Mr. Brown was a land developer in the East mountains. He was a veteran of WWII and served in Alaska, France and Germany. Audie was an active member at Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ, and liked to host Bible studies in his home. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord. Mr. Brown is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Walsie Mae "Mickey" Brown; sons, Lane Brown and wife Rietta, Dan Brown, Roger Brown and wife Cathy; grandchildren, Audie Brown and wife Laura, Pat Brown and wife Mary Louise, Tim Brown and wife Jenny, David Brown and wife Sherry, Debbie Cruz, Shane Brown and wife Danielle, Jim Brown, Sherry Aragon and husband Rich, and Danielle Brown; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Harley Brown of Mt. Home, AR; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, March 5, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ with Lane Brown, Kevin Owen and Joy Lee Brazal officiating. GUTIERREZ -- Adrian Gutierrez, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the family home; son, John Gutierrez and wife, Liz of Albuquerque; three daughters, Christine Buckler and husband, Tim; Gerri Campbell and husband, Chris; Evelyn DeCosta and husband Dwayne all of Albuquerque; four brothers, Jose Dolores, Benito, Perfecto, and Frank; a sister, Frances Herrera; twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Rev. Danny Gutierrez. He was raised in Chama where he began his teaching career. He served in the US Army in the Korean War. He taught, was a principal and a coach at Chama. He moved to Albuquerque and retired from Old Town Elementary. He and Dorothy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. He had been very involved in ministries to the homeless and those in need. He took great pleasure in giving and helping people. He was a great husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all. A Rosary will be recited Friday, March 5, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. HARDY -- Miss Dora Frances Hardy, our beloved sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2004. She was born on February 20, 1915 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to The Reverend Samuel Stuart and Ethel May Hardy. After moving to Medina, OH as a young lady she attended the Harcourt Girls School in Gambier, OH. She attended Miami University in Oxford, OH for her 2-year teaching certificate. Dora taught in the Cleveland schools until 1954, when she went to Panama. She taught Special Ed for the DOD schools in Panama for 22 years. It was during her biannual vacations to visit with family in New Mexico that she earned her Masters in Education from UNM, and fell in love with the community of Placitas, NM. Upon her retirement in 1977, she moved to Placitas where she continued to be active in her community. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She loved to read, travel, garden, and play bridge with her dear friends. Dora is survived by her sister, Mary Grace (Hardy) Gantt; and her brother-in-law, Richard R. Gantt. Also two nephews, Brian F. Blank, James S. Blank and spouse, Kandie and their three children; three nieces, Victoria L. Ebell and spouse, Myron and their four children; Susan E. Page and spouse, Brian and their three children; and Gretchen Garey and spouse, Mickey and their six children. She was dearly loved by all and will always be fondly remembered. A family service will be held for Dora on Saturday, March 6, 2004 in Placitas.

HUTT -- Elizabeth "Betty" Hutt, 89, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, February 27, 2004. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, loving companions and numerous other friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Hutt in October of 2000. JONES -- John Paul Jones passed away at home on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, after a lengthy illness. Born April 21, 1928 and raised in Midway, PA, the son of Merille J. Jones and Letitia Scott Jones. At age 17, he received the Eagle Scout Award. He served in the U.S. Army 1946-47 and in Korea 1952-54. He received a BS in Business Administration from Kent State University in 1952 and a MA in Public Administration from UNM in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; daughters, Lisa and husband Phillip Ashcraft, Wendy Jones of Sonoma, CA, and Betsy Jones and fiance Alex Argeanas. He was a wonderful "Pop Pop" to Kaitlyn, Dana, Emily and John Phillip Ashcraft, and a loving husband and father. His beloved son, John Paul Jones Jr., preceded him in death in 1992. In 1955, Mr. Jones became a Special Agent, United States Secret Service. He was assigned to offices in St. Louis, Washington, San Antonio, Austin and Louisville. During the Johnson administration, he served at the White House and the LBJ Ranch. He was Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque office from 1961-66 and from 1971 until retirement in 1979. During his 25-year career, he was involved in Criminal Investigations as well as protection of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, foreign heads of State and Presidential candidates and nominees. He enjoyed aviation history, woodworking, travel and photography. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. KOEPKE -- Sophy Koepke past away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, after a long illness. She was born March 20, 1921 in Bay City, Michigan. Her husband, Bill Koepke, preceded her in death. May they find each other once again in Heaven and have eternal life together. They had made Albuquerque their home for the past 35 years. MALIN -- Mary Isla "Bones" Malin Born August 15, 1928 in Clayton, New Mexico passed into the loving arms of the Lord on March 3, 2004. She is survived by sons, Greg T. Malin and wife Kathleen of Albany, Oregon; Edward E. Malin and wife Jean of Phoenix, Arizona; Gary F. Malin and wife Barbara of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Larry G. Malin of Bernalillo, New Mexico. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Mae Overbay in 1975 and her late husband Glen E. Malin in 1994. "Bones" as she was referred to by her friends and family enjoyed painting and writing poetry. The Malin family would like to express their sincere thanks to Esther Elizondo for her loving care she provided during Mary's illness. The family would also like to thank Henry Elizondo, Enrique, Reyes, Estevan, and Isaiah. The family also thanks Rose1la Anaya and all others who were caring for "Bones". MARTINEZ -- Joel Martinez, 36, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2004. He is survived by his mother, Dolly Mora of Albuquerque; one brother, Rey J. PABOUCEK -- Edward George Paboucek, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2004. Ed was born October 27, 1932 and raised in Neffs, OH, before moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1948. He attended Albuquerque High School and UNM. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean Police Action in 1952, and served three years in the Far East. After returning he remained in the Army Reserve for 11 more years, serving as Sergeant Major of the 321st Military Government Group. He worked as a Design and Manufacturing Engineer for Sandia Laboratories where he retired in 1994. Ed has been a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church since 1957, where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a member of Mesa Lodge 68, AF & AM, Yorkrite Masonic Bodies, and Ballot Abyad Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carlen Paboucek, daughters, Renee Sheckler and husband Burly of Edgewood, NM; Robin Cleek and husband, George of Casper, WY; son, David Paboucek of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Justin, Travis, Kyle, Nathan and Amanda Sheckler; Ashleigh and Courtney Cleek; brother, Henry Paboucek and wife, Katherine of Bernalillo, NM; and nephew Leon Paboucek and wife, Angela and family of Rio Rancho, NM. He leaves behind many other family members and friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. PERDOMO -- Santiago A. (Sammy) Perdomo passed away on February 29, 2004 after a long illness at the age of 91. He was born in Belize. He was preceded in death by his parents; his five brothers; and only sister; and one week ago by his very special friend, Cordelia Trujillo. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and the Trujillo family. PITTS -- Elmer Roderick Pitts, 76 and a resident of Albuquerque for over 52 years, passed away on March 3, 2004 in Albuquerque. He was born in Arkansas City, KS to Elmer and Fay Smith Pitts. He worked at Sandia National Labs for 41 years as a machinist. Mr. Pitts was a member of Fellowship Christian Reformed Church. His son, Bartley Pitts, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Pitts; his mother, Fay Pitts of San Diego, CA; children, Roderick Pitts, Bret Pitts and wife, Kathryn, and Brian Pitts, all of Albuquerque; and a sister, Elma Imperial of San Diego, CA. He was a proud, loving, and devoted grandfather to his nine grandchildren, Heath, Chad, Michelle, Matthew, Tiffany, Neil, Keri, Mitchel, and Patrick. SKINNER -- Betty J. Skinner, 82, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, March 1, 2004. SLATTERY -- Robert G. Slattery, 53, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Dickinson; son, Brendon Slattery; parents, Richard and Marjorie Slattery; brother, Ed Slattery and wife, Mary; nieces, Emily and Hannah; nephew, Ben; and three cousins and their families. Bob was born in Washington, DC and raised in a log cabin near Rockville, MD until he and his family relocated to Davenport, IA when he was 13. He received his BA in archeology from the University of Iowa and came to NM to do field work, first with UNM and later the School of American Research. He started in the construction business in Santa Fe in 1973 and became proficient in many building styles. He tried his hand at writing and publishing in the early 80's, which is how he met Marianne, his wife and partner. They moved to Albuquerque in 1985, where Bob started Robert Slattery Construction, Inc., which has won numerous awards for custom homes and remodeling. Bob was an active member of the Home Builders of Central New Mexico, serving on the Board of Directors, as chairman of the Remodelors Council, and as a founding member and chairman of the Custom Builders Council. He was also active in efforts to institute green building and green development standards locally. He was known as an intelligent, creative and ethical professional---which, with his boyish grin and positive energy, made him a much respected and loved member of our community. Services will be held Monday, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. TRUJILLO -- Baby Angel Justin Trujillo, 6 months, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico has filled his place in the Garden of Angels to be with the Lord. After a courageous battle with an undetermined illness at the Denver Children's Hospital in Denver, CO, he took his last breath in the loving arms of his uncle, Cirilo. During his short life, he brought much joy to all of his family. He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Imogene Yazzie; his paternal grandparents, Julian and Emma Garcia, Erlindo and Anita Trujillo, and Erlindo and Mary Ann Trujillo. VALVERDE -- Elvin A. Valverde, age 72, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away February 28, 2004. A former resident of Albuquerque, NM, he was born October 14, 1931 in Trementina, NM. He was preceded in death by his father, Patricio; mother, Amy; sisters, Doris Medina, Marcella Fratzola; and brother, Patricio, Jr. Elvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 53 years; his children, Elvin Jr. (Jennifer), David (Renee), and Lisa Wymer (Steve). He was a loving and playful grandfather to LeeAnn, Jacob, Nicole, Gabby, Michael, Garrett; and step-grandchildren, Ralph, Chantel, Bridget and Josh. Elvin is also survived by sisters, Leota Romero, Vern Gonzales, Edna Fowler, and Irma Peter; brothers-in-law: Joe Medina, Tony Fratzola, Albert Gonzales, Tom and Russ Williams; and sisters-in-law, Patricia and Patsy Williams, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his favorite yellow lab, Ashley. Elvin spent his life working in the civilian sector and for the government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal mechanic working on several nuclear submarines. He was a dedicated family man who took pride in providing for and protecting his family. Services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2004, 1:30 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service in Santa Fe with burial services to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. WISE -- Jack D. Wise went home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2004 at the Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida. In his earlier years, Jack earned a football scholarship to University of South Carolina, then joined the Navy and cooked for the Naval Officers. After his service he began his career as a butcher for various grocery chains and retired from Furr's in Albuquerque. Jack was an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. He began organic gardening, joined the South Valley Growers Assn. and was a member of the Board of Directors. He was also an active member of Heritage Christian Fellowship. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Frances Marie; daughter, Renee Downing of South Carolina; sisters, Joyce Bachman and Margaret Dillahay of South Carolina, Norma Marsh of Florida and Mary Moore Whiteley of California; four grandchildren in South Carolina and one in Mississippi, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jimmie Fern Fraser. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Christian Fellowship, 11104 Menaul Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87112, March 11, 2004, 11:00 a.m., Pastor Tim Maxwell will be officiating. Donations may be made to Cancer Research, in lieu of flowers. Interment will take place at Vista Verde Memorial Park.
