ARBOGAST -- Jacqueline (Jackie) DesGeorges Arbogast passed away early Saturday morning, February 28th, 2004. Jackie was born and raised in Gallup, NM, then moved to Albuquerque where she has made her home ever since. She was a graduate of UNM and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She taught in the Albuquerque public school system for many years. Jackie was preceeded in death by her husband, William Arbogast. She is survived by her daughter Bobbie Arbogast, son Bruce and his wife Valerie Arbogast, two grandsons, Justin and Josh Arbogast, and her sister, Mary Brown. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Jackie was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary Tuesday, March 2 2004 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 10 AM at Strong-Thorne Morturary.

BAKION -- Stanley Russel Bakion, 80, a resident of Rio Rancho, died February 27, 2004. He was born January 16, 1924, to parents Harry Bakion and Viola Riley Bakion in Minneapolis, MN. Stanley was an administrative clerk for the federal government before retiring after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. Stanley was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 312 Unser SE in Rio Rancho. The beloved husband, father and grandfather is survived by; his wife of 13 years, Eleanor Bakion; two children, Russell T. Bakion and wife Sharon of Pomona, CA., and Marie Michael and husband Dion Crushshon of Minneapolis, MN.; sisters, Edna Shaw and husband David of Pomona and Harriet Vaughn of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. BELTRAN -- Armando Z, Beltran, 60, died on February 28. CARREJO -- Emil "Animal" Carrejo, 51, went to heaven to play the drums for the Lord on February 27, 2004. Survived by his mother, Teresa Carrejo; granddaughter, Mikaylah Harp; three children, Tamara McCallum, Tarah Harp, Levi Carrejo; and their loving mother, Penny; two brothers, Billy and Frank Carrejo; two sisters, Roberta Jones and Pamela "Tweety" Wintermute; along with extended loving family. Emil was the best drummer to come out of New Mexico and he was a pressman for UNM for many years. His favorite past times were playing music, laughing, and spending time with his kids. Emil was a blessing and a witness to all and he will never be forgotten. COOK -- LaVerne T. Cook, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM passed away on Sunday, February 29, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. She worked as an administrative assistant for many years prior to her retirement in 1993. LaVerne is survived by her husband of forty-five years, Stanley Cook of Bosque Farms; three sons, Gerry Cook of Bosque Farms, Jeffrey Cook and his wife, Erika, and Eric Cook and his wife, Tonya, all of Albuquerque; one brother, Malcolm Thiesen of Oakridge, TN; two sisters, Juanita Berquist of Seattle, WA, and Deanna Bruckner of Schaumburg, IL; one grandson, Aidan; and many nieces and nephews. CORNELIUS -- Marie V. Cornelius, 78, has fallen asleep in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away from this life Monday, March 1, 2004, at home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Marie was born August 12, 1925 in Lockhaven, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alberta Rodie; brothers, Charles Rodie, Vincent Rodie; husband Ernie Boynton. Marie is survived by sisters, Connie Page, Geraldine Corsaro and husband Eugene; daughters, Mary Lou Ruiz and husband Tom, Cheryl Drake and husband Dan; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their children. Memorial services will be held at the 1st Baptist Church of Bosque Farms, 1350 Bosque Farms Blvd, on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be given to the Passion Play at the 1st Baptist Church of Bosque Farms. ESTRADA -- Mrs. Audrey Lowe Estrada, 89, of 316 West St. George St., died Friday, February 27, 2004 at Alterra Clare Bridge of Wilmingtion, NC. The Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Southport, NC. Mrs. Estrada was born August 3, 1914 in Strong, AR daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Elena Hays Lowe. a former Albuquerque resident, she was a retired hairdresser and a member of First Baptist Church in Albuquerque. She was also a founding member of White Avenue Baptist Church in Bastrop, LA. She was the widow of Reuel F. Estrada and is survived by a son, Perry Edward Hunt and wife, Suzanne of Southport, NC; step-son, Lynn Estrada of Lebanon, TN; brother, Foye Lowe, Sr. of Bastrop, LA; two granddaughters, Cornelia Shaw and husband, Stephen, and Caroline Kesler and husband, Patrick both of Raleigh, NC; and great-grandson, Miles Shaw. HALSEY -- Robert M. Halsey, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2004. He is survived by his son, Bob Halsey; son, Tom Halsey and wife, Margo Halsey; son, Bill Halsey and wife, Debra Halsey; daughter, Peggy Halsey; and grandson, Connor Halsey. Robert was born September 1, 1920, in Cement City, Mich., and raised in Jackson, Mich. He graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of Michigan and spent more than 40 years as an aeronautical engineer with Bell Helicopter in Amarillo, Texas, with Boeing in Seattle, Wash., and at Sandia National Laboratories. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in England during World War II. Cremation has taken place, and no public services are planned.

HARRIS -- Geneva Marie Harris, born January 1, 1922 in Eagle Nest, NM to August and Kata Iko at the family homestead, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004 in Albuquerque, with family, friends and the grace of God by her side. Geneva embraced 82 years of life. She is survived by her sister, Manda Corbeil of Bountiful, UT, Dr. Roy Menning; three sons, Dr. Terry W. Menning and wife, Sue of Grants, NM, Don S. Menning of Albuquerque, James R. Menning of Sandia Park; stepdaughter, Jerry Hess and husband, Lee of West Covina; grandchildren, Jessica Menning, Peter Menning, Joshua Menning, all of Albuquerque, and Jennifer Backstrom of Tucson, AZ; two great grandchildren, Brand and Kitty; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Col. Harris at Arlington National Cemetery; parents, grandparents, and infant Iko resting in Elizabethtown; brothers, George, Paul and Tony Iko, resting in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Geneva's early years involved helping the family harvest cabbage in the summer and ice blocks cut from Eagle Nest Lake, transporting goods to Raton, Cimarron and Taos and working at the hotel's in E-town and Eagle Nest. In 1942, she wed Roy F. Menning, a B-17 captain and Doctor of Optometry. Geneva was a founding member of Four Hills Country Club where she embraced the philosophies of Golf and Bridge, becoming a low handicap and masters champion. She pursued careers in modeling, worked for Jack Rust Tractor, Lincoln Mercury and earned her real estate license in 1963. As a social figure, she danced with the Daughter's of the Nile, hosted the scavenger hunt and purple people eater parties which are still talked about today. In 1966, she wed Col. F.D. Harris (Larry) and moved to Washington DC where Joints Chief's of Staff entertained them. Her travels included Hawaii, Hong Kong, Saigon, and the world at large before settling in Orlando, FL. She returned to Albuquerque in 1990, offering her services to the Four Hill's and Village Garden Neighborhood Associations, the bridge group ladies, her neighbors, and community services. The family wishes to thank all of these people and friends, including Florence and Doug Thompson, the staff at Bear Canyon, Bank of the West Manzano Branch, where all of these visits brought comfort and peace of mind and especially EMT's and staff at Lovelace for easing her transition. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 5, 2004, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment of cremated remains will take place in Arlington National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a brief reception at Geneva's home, in Four Hills, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions be made to the DAV Vietnam Veteran's National Memorial in Angel Fire, Immanuel Presbyterian Church or the Dementia and Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico. HERNANDEZ -- Jennie M. Hernandez, 94, went home to be with the Lord on February 29, 2004. She was born on March 15, 1909 in Weston, Colorado. Mrs. Hernandez is preceded in death by her sons, Raymond and George Hernandez and her husband, Reyes Hernandez. She is survived by her sons, Gilbert Hernandez and wife Delia, John Hernandez and wife Bertha, Joe Hernandez and wife Rosa, David Hernandez and wife Shelia and Jim Hernandez and wife Lourdes; daughters, Esther Stockton, Theresa Hernandez and Rosemary Tatarian and husband Garo; brothers, Phil Tapia and wife Martha, Mike Tapia and wife Esther and Charles Tapia; sisters, Nora Lopez and husband Adan, Helen Armijo and Connie Armijo; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. MARTINEZ -- Anthony Martinez, recently tragedy struck the City of Pueblo when Anthony passed away. Tony, as he was affectionately known, was originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. he came to Pueblo in the early part of the 70's. He lived in Pueblo most of the last 33 years, minus a few years in the 80's. Having made his fortunes in Real Estate, Tony was though highly of. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan B. Martinez and mother, Ernestine Martinez; his two sons, Anthony Michael Martinez III in 1979 and William Joseph Martinez in 1986. Tony is survived in life by his son, Daniel John (D.J.) Martinez of Albuquerque. Also he has two brothers, Ted and J.V. of Albuquerque and his brother, Joe, of Chula Vista, CA. Tony has one sister, Susan of Albuquerque. MONTOYA -- Melba A. Montoya, age 57, a resident of Belen passed away on Sunday, February 29, 2004. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church where she served as Director of Religious Education at the CCD office. She so loved her husband, Fidel, who was her childhood sweatheart. Melba loved being around her grandchildren, whom she called her little angels. She was preceded in death by her father, Lillialdo Padilla; her husband, Fidel Montoya; her brother, Joe Padilla; sister, Elizabeth Tafoya and nephew, Michael Don Sanchez. Melba is survived by her mother, Clorinda Padilla; her children, Kelly Rose and her husband, Bruce McGrew, Ida and her husband, Doug Tyree, Karen and her husband, Ronald Gabaldon; six grandchildren, Kristen, Corey, Jonathan, Michael, Zachary, and Lauren; brother, Leroy Padilla and sister, Frances Sanchez and many loving nephews and nieces. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary following at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta with interment following at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. NOLAN -- Jane (Jean ) Nolan, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2004. Ms. Nolan is survived by her brother, Joseph C. Nolan and wife, Carol; nieces, Patricia Nolan Harris and husband, J. Michael; Edna Lynn Nolan and her partner, Lucretia Davis; nephews, Mark J. Nolan and wife, Kathleen, Theodore Bruns and wife, Diane, Robert Bruns and his friend, Diane Anderson; and James Bruns; several great nieces, nephews, cousins and friend. Ms. Nolan was preceded in death by her father, Joseph A. Nolan, her mother, Jane Turnbull Nolan; a sister, Margaret Bruns. Jane was a member of the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, an Airman 1st Class in the Airforce during the Korean Conflict. She was a ground radio operator, working in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Before she enlisted in the Airforce, Jane worked for the New York Telephone Company and returned to the Company after discharge. Jane was a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital for many years. A visitation will be Wednesday evening at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 with Military Honors. PRESTOPINO -- Josephine P. Prestopino, 96, a resident of Albuquerque for 19 years, was born on September 19, 1907, and died on Saturday, February 28, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris; and son, Kit. She was born in Boston, MA, the only child of Giuseppe and Maria Panzica who were Italian immigrants. She was given the opportunity of an education and graduated from the University of Massachusetts class of 1928, with a degree in education. She married Chris Prestopino in 1934 and enjoyed a successful career teaching sewing in the New York City school system. When she and Chris retired from teaching they enjoyed 12 years together spending winters in Pompano Beach, FL and summers in Montauk, NY. They loved to travel and toured the U.S. and Mexico in their Airstream. They flew around the world but a trip to Italy to visit Italian relatives was a highlight of their travels. She moved to Albuquerque in 1984 after the death of her husband, Chris and continued to be a source of inspiration to her family. She maintained her own home until the age of 91 and her family will always remember her wonderful family dinners. She loved to sew and gave that gift to her daughters. Josephine is survived by her daughters Ann Silva and husband Don, and Rita Newman and husband Bill, and daughter-in-law Nancy Prestopino. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael Silva and wife Diane, Peter Silva and wife Kimberly, Steven Silva and wife Angelica, Nicholas De Candia and wife Rhonda, Donald De Candia and partner Marcie, Matt Prestopino, and Julie Prestopino and partner Ryan. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Richard Olona, Celebrant. SEERY -- Virginia Alice Bandy Seery, a resident of Belen since 1925, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at a nursing home in Belen, NM. Virginia was born in Huron, South Dakota to Thomas Walter and Bertha Ross Bandy on February 5, 1911. She was the youngest of three children, James Ross, Margaret, Elizabeth and Virginia. When Virginia was nine years old in 1920, her father died suddenly. Her mother Bertha moved the two girls, along with Virginia's grandparents to Belton, Texas to teach English at Baylor College for Women. Next they went to Silver City, NM to teach at NM State Teachers College. Virginia lived with her sister, Margaret in Belen for one year in 1925-26, where she attended school. It was at this time she met John Alfred Seery, a young high school student. Virginia's mother continued her education at college in Nebraska, so Virginia moved once again to Broken Bow, NB where she graduated from high school in 1928. They once again returned to New Mexico, so her mother could take a teaching job in Los Lunas, NM. Virginia attended the University of New Mexico in fall of 1929 where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and continued her relationship with Al. Virginia and Al Seery were married on December 7, 1933 in Carlsbad, NM at the home of her sister, Margaret Mallow and then set up residence in Belen. The couple owned property on east River Road in Belen, where they reared two daughters and two sons. Virginia learned to play the piano from her mother and she completed a two year home study piano course of music theory and technique, receiving her certificate in 1936. She played the piano and organ for the Presbyterian Church in Belen from 1957-1978. Countless hours of practice for Sunday church services, weddings, funerals and choir were spent at home and at the church. She also taught Sunday school classes, was a deacon and sang in the choir. Virginia played Bridge with a group of close friends weekly, from 1934-1995, a total of 61 years. Virginia was active in Jassamine Chapter #45, order of Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1943. In 1997 she was the oldest living Worthy Matron in Belen. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Al in 1986; her parents; her brother and her sister. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Margaret Seery Snow and her husband, Robert of Carlsbad, NM, Marilyn Seery Beal of Hillsborough, CA; her sons, Alfred Seery and his wife, Josephine of Bosque Farms, NM, and David Seery and his wife, Carol of Socorro, NM; her ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Rio Communities. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. TAMEZ -- Grace Gutierrez Tamez, age 79, beloved sister and aunt was called home by our Heavenly Father, Sunday, February 29, 2004. Grace was born in Alameda, NM to the late Tomas and Domitilia Gitierrez. She is survived by her loving brother Loyola Gutierrez and wife Neita of Alameda; his sister Angie Wilson and husband Dan; brother in law, Agustin Tapia; special nieces, Tillie Lucero and Carmelita Lucero whom were always there for Grace during the last few years of her life; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Grace will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Casket bearers will be, Ron Gutierrez, Tom Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez, Leonard Tapia, Daniel Wilson and Rick Lucero. TAYLOR -- Betty G. Taylor, 83, passed away in Albuquerque on February 29, 2004. She was born in Wilmington, DE to Horace L. and Bessie Niven Gardner. Betty was a member of Tri Delta. She is survived by three children, Mark G. Taylor and wife, Kay, Clay Taylor, and Elise Rogers and husband, Michael; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Natalie and Sean; and her loving dog, Brandy. WYLER -- Vickie T. Wyler died Sunday, February 29, 2004 in Albuquerque at the age of 56. She loved children and spent 30 years in the childcare industry. The children she cared for loved her as well. Vickie is survived by her father, Joe Lucero; husband, Louie A. Wyler; son, Julian Wyler and wife, Regina; daughter, Christine Wyler; brothers, Jerry Lucero and wife, Dorothy, Charlie Lucero and wife, Charlene, and Clyde Lucero; and grandson, Gabriel Wyler.
