BACA -- Angelina C. Baca, age 85, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family, Sunday, January 4, 2004. A life long resident of Belen, she enjoyed ceramics and her great grandchildren. Angelina was involved with the Belen Senior Center and retired from the Albuquerque Health Department. She is survived by her children, Annabelle Gabaldon and husband Leo, Phillip Cordova and wife Dolores; five grandchildren, Jess Gabaldon of Los Gatos, CA., Jim Gabaldon of San Diego, CA., Joey Gabaldon of Los Angeles, CA., John Gabaldon of Los Angeles, CA, JoAnn Sauter and husband Steve of Albuquerque; three great grandchildren, BriAnna, Kylie, and Chase Sauter; two sisters, Lucilla Castillo and husband Arthur, Julia Silva and husband Tom; sisters-in-law Suzie Gabaldon, Luz Cordova, and Mary Torres; numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, 2004. A rosary will be recited at 8:00am, followed by a celebration of the mass at 9:00. BARGER -- Kathleen R. Barger, 21, a resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2004. She is survived by her loving family, her mother, Karen Chavez; her father, John C. Barger; her maternal grandparents, Adam Chavez and Frances Chavez; her paternal grandparents, Eddie Barger Sr. and Crusita Barger; and her brothers, John Adam Barger and Jacob A. Barger all of Belen. A visitation for Kathleen will be held on Thursday January 8, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riverside Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday morning, January 9, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. by Deacon Norbert Sanchez. BARNETT -- James W. Barnett passed away on December 31, 2003. James was born on July 6, 1924 in Jonesboro, IN. he was the son of Nolan Huff Barnett and Eula May Barnett. He graduated from Winchester (IN) High School in 1942. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army. He served as an advance scout for General George Patton in WWII. He was the recipient of two purple hearts. In September of 1946, he entered Wabash College and completed his degree at the University of New Mexico. He also finished his Masters at UNM. He was employed by ACF Industries and Sandia. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary F. Barnett. He was preceded in death by his son, James Barnett Jr., and his brother, Richard H. Barnett. Other survivors include his nephew Jeffrey S. Barnett and wife Nancy, niece Jennifer Anderson, and other great nieces and nephews. James was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Eye Bank. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, with Reverend Charles Crutchfield officiating. BARNUM -- Letha L. Barnum, 77, a native of New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2004. She is survived by her husband, John H. Barnum, Jr; son, John R. Barnum and wife, Felicia; daughter, Judy Brumley and husband, Barney; grandchildren, Johnny, Jamie, Patrick, and Danny; brother, Ray L. Carroll; and granddogs, Snuffy and Charlie. BELKA -- Ellen Gill Belka, 90, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Sheila B. Robinson and husband, Dr. C.Curtis Robinson of Denver and Lynne B. Bicknell and husband, Wally McCall of Albuquerque; grandchildren, C. Curtis Robinson III, Robyn Robinson and fianc Daryl L. Joseffer, Patrick F. Bicknell and Timothy C. Bicknell. Grandma Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Belka. Ellen was born April 23, 1913 in Tobias, NE. She was a supportive wife to her husband, who for many years was Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque. Mrs. Belka was a loving mother and a very devoted grandmother. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Cathedral, 318 Silver SW. BLACKHURST -- Judge Richard Blackhurst, retired, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died Saturday, January 3, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Amanda R. Blackhurst of Albuquerque; children, Frances Toon and husband, Bill of Mesa, AZ, Richard A. Blackhurst of Santa Fe, Honey Griswold and husband, Bill of Rio Rancho, Elizabeth Blackhurst of Albuquerque and Fontaine Gregreson and husband, Max of Park City, UT; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Romney and husband, Keith of Salt Lake City, UT; and brothers, Burt Blackhurst and wife, Viva of Pocatello, ID, Jonathan Blackhurst of Salt Lake City, UT and Steven Blackhurst and wife, Karen of Moreno Valley, CA. BUSS -- Roberta Buss, nee Hollister, 91, died on January 5, 2004 surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1949. Roberta was born in Rockford, IL on September 11, 1912. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Julius (Rick) Buss; daughter, Sandra Thomassen and her husband, Tim; granddaughter, Tamara Wesol and her husband, Daniel and Patricia and Ashley Tucker all of Albuquerque. Roberta attended the University of Chicago in public health and later received a nursing degree from the University of New Mexico. She worked at hospitals and public health agencies in Detroit, Chicago, New York, St. Louis and Gallup. She moved to Albuquerque in 1949 and later took a position as a public health service nurse. She was one of 18 original school nurses to be hired by the Albuquerque Public Schools in the early 1950s and worked throughout APS, including the mountain areas of Chilili, Tijeras and San Antonito. She retired after 25 years of service. Robert was a longtime member of the Albuquerque Bible Students and travelled extensively with her husband to attend bible student meetings and conventions throughout the United States and abroad. She was a dedicated Christian who fought the good fight of faith unto the end. She also was an avid environmentalist who supported the Sierra Club and similar causes. She was a person of strong character and integrity and one of the last of the true ladies. Roberta was respected and loved by many people throughout her life. She will remain close to our hearts forever and will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming NE. CHURCH -- Mable A. Church, 96, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003. She is survived by her son, Gordon M. Church of Albuquerque; brother, Charles Burson and wife, Louise of Summerton, SC; nieces, Judi Cadwallader and husband, Charles of Northglenn, CO, Margaret Powers Morales and husband, Jacinto of McCalla, AL, and Phyllis Roberts and partner, Jo Bumstead of Lakewood, CO; nephew, Robert H. Burson and wife, Barbara of New Lennox, IL; and other family members. Mrs. Church was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Church. Mable enjoyed life as a homemaker, working occasionally in the public or retail sectors; she was a master at sewing, crochette and cooking, but she took her greatest pride in giving over forty years of service to the educational mission and organizational needs of parliamentary procedure in Albuquerque and in the region of the National Association of Parliamentarians in which she was a Professional Registered Parliamentarian. She had a career of giving courses and workshops, providing consultation to non-profit organizations and serving in all offices of the Albuquerque Parliamentarian Unit, the state association and regional organization utilizing Robert's Rules of Order to provide for the reasonable, logical and fair transaction of business at the organizational level. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church and a variety of civic organizations throughout her life. Memorial services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Dr. Terry Anderson and Chaplain Fabian Gagnon officiating. Private interment has taken place. CIESCO -- Mark Ciesco, born in Torrington, CT on January 7, 1959, passed into the hands of our Lord on December 21, 2003 at his home in Albuquerque. DARNELL -- Dorothy I. Heath Darnell, 86, a resident of the Jemez Mountains and Bernalillo since 1931, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004. She is survived by her three sons, Carlton H. Darnell and wife Ruth of Albuquerque, Calvin L. Darnell and wife Frances of Glendale, AZ, and L. Cone Darnell and wife Michelle of Mesa, AZ; three daughters, Verda D. Rinaldi and husband Richard of Salt Lake City, UT, Linda K. Luders and husband Chuck of Rio Rancho, and Connie D. Darnell and husband Bob Luders of Jemez Springs; daughter-in-law, Patricia G. Darnell of Bernalillo; 34 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Henry J. Darnell, son Charles M. Darnell, eight brothers, and eight sisters. Mrs. Darnell was a member of the Bernalillo Women's Club and a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was famous for her yeast rolls. LOPEZ -- Lucinda Chavez Lopez, 103, died January 2, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospice Center in Albuquerque. Mrs. Lopez married Maximiano Lopez and moved from Albuquerque to New Kirk, NM where she raised two sons and ran the family ranch with great strength and ingenuity during very difficult times. Mr. and Mrs. Lopez moved to Tucumcari, NM during WWII where Maximiano's WWI injuries were easier to care for. Maximiano died in 1966 and son, Carlos died in 2001. Mrs. Lopez is survived by son, Fred Lopez; grandchildren, David P. Lopez, Phillip R. Lopez and wife, Priscilla, Yvonne Lopez Garcia and husband, Randy, Carla Lopez and husband, Michael E. Vigil, and Edward M. Lopez and wife, Debbie; great-grandchildren, Randy Mark Garcia, Lauren Garcia, Rachel Lopez, Miquela Vigil, Cristina Vigil, David V. Lopez, Amanda E. Lopez, Galen P. Lopez, Jessi Marie Lopez, Justin Westbrook, and Jami Lopez. Mrs. Lopez will be remembered as a woman of tremendous strength and faith. Cremation has taken place. MARINO -- Jose S. Marino, 76, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2004. He was born on October 3, 1927 in Los Padillas, New Mexico. Mr. Marino was a WWII Veteran and a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter III, he was a Chairmen on the Board of Directors at the DAV for many years. He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Marino. He is survived by his wife, Celia Marino; daughter, Rebecca Marino; son, Paul Marino and fiance, Debbie Garcia; brother, Claudio Marino and wife Chriselda; sisters, Stella Baca and husband Joe, Lisa Valdez and Jennie Lopez; one grandson, Jason Marino and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Marino will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited following at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. PEARLMAN -- David H. Pearlman, a former Albuquerque attorney, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2003 in Colorado Springs, CO. He had recently celebrated his 60th birthday in June, 2003. He leaves his wife, Carol Pearlman; three sons, David Pearlman, Gavin Pearlman and Adam Pearlman; and three grandchildren, Tianna Pearlman, Elijah Pearlman and Aiden Pearlman. He was born in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and came to Albuquerque in 1965 to attend UNM Law School, from which he graduated in 1969. He practiced personal injury law for many years in Albuquerque until 1995, when he moved to Colorado Springs and continued practicing in his board certified specialty. A memorial service was held in Colorado Springs on January 3, 2004 which was attended by his family and many friends.

RIEMAN -- Helen Fitzpatrick Rieman, 73, born in Chicago, Illinois, died late Tuesday night at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following a heart attack. Helen, a three year resident of Albuquerque is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Robert D. Rieman; his three sons, Charles M. Rieman and Christopher H. Rieman both residence of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, as well as Thomas F. Rieman and his wife, Kathryn S. Cottrell who reside in Parker, Texas. Helen was a dedicated wife, mother and good friend who worked as a volunteer to improve the quality of life for those less fortunate. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. She completed her Masters Degree in Special Education at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where she lived most of her adult life. In 1988 she and her husband moved to Durango, Colorado for 12 years before moving to Albuquerque. The Rieman's are members of the La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque where a Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with reception immediately following. La Mesa is located at 7401 Copper N.E. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred for the La Mesa Presbyterian Church/Samaritan Fund. Another Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Details to be determined.

ROBERTSON -- Berdella Mellum Robertson, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1940, died Friday, January 2, 2004. She is survived by her son, John Robertson of Santa Fe; daughter, Selma Prather and husband, Bill of Albuquerque; and granddaughter, Barbie Robertson of Santa Fe. Mrs. Robertson was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roy Robertson. She will be missed dearly by her family. ROZZI -- Leon Rozzi, 72, passed away on Monday after a year-long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Peter and Anita; his son, Chris; his brother and sister, Edward and Elise; and his first wife, Marie. Leon is survived by his children, Sheila Sanchez and husband, Joe, Deborah, Gina, Tina Gonzales and husband, Bruce, Deana and his son, Angelo and wife, Arlene; his step-children, Lisa Garcia, Frankie and Judy Ann Jaramillo; his brother, John; his sister, Eve; his former wife, Gloria; his 19 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. Mr. Rozzi was a Korean War veteran and retired from PNM in 1982 after 30 years of service. Mr. Rozzi had a big heart and was the best father anyone could hope for. We will remember him as a kind, loving, generous, and funny man who was always there for his family and always offered to help those he could. Leon kept his sense of humor and his great concern for his family's well being up until the very end when he took the great journey home. We love you Daddy. A rosary mass will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at San Felipe De Neri Church and the Funeral Mass will also be held at San Felipe on Friday 9:00 a.m.

SHARROW -- Carl A. Sharrow, 92, a resident of Rio Rancho for 35 years, died January 6, 2004. He was born January 18, 1911 in Golden, Illinois to William Lee Sharrow and Viola Bushen. Mr. Sharrow attended the General City Business College in Quincy, IL and the CCC Camp Havana, IL. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and National Retired Federal Employees. He worked with the US Department of Agriculture for 27 years. He served in the Army in the Philipine Islands. He enjoyed stamp collecting and liked automobiles He is survived by his wife, Esther to whom he was married to for 61 years. He is also survived by his sister Ruby and her husband Roger Mulch of Sutter, IL. He is preceded in death by his sisters Vera and Rosalie. Contributions may be made in Carl Sharrow's name to Vista Care Hospice. A visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Vista Verde Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Vista Verde Mortuary Chapel. A private interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. SIMPSON -- Frances C. Simpson, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 5, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Morris Simpson of Albuquerque; daughter, Linda Livingston and husband, Kent of Albuquerque; son, John Scott Simpson of Albuquerque; daughter, Anita Joyce Shepherd and husband, Kerwyn of Lancaster, TX; son, David Allen Simpson of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Madeline Grace Shepherd of Lancaster, TX; and sister, Betty Doherty of Pinebluff, AR. She was preceded in death by her son, William Morris Simpson. Frances had two fulltime careers; one was a homemaker and the other was working with her husband in his dental practice. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family and loved her Lord, Jesus Christ. She had an undying faith and loved to study and spread the good word of the Lord. ST CYR -- Virginia W. St. Cyr, born December 27, 1922 in McPherson, Kansas passed into the hands of her Lord Jesus Christ on January 5, 2004 after losing a three-year battle with leukemia. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Voorhies; brother, Howard Wilson; children, Alan, Walter, Christine, and Brian; daughters-in-law, Victoria and Elizabeth; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and niece, Sheila Park. She served in the U.S. army as a nurse during WWII at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant followed by a long medical career at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque and as a RN for Dr. Jack Redman until her retirement. Services will be held at Fitzgerald & Sons on Carlisle and Comanche: a viewing on Thursday, January 8th from 3-7 pm and Memorial at 9 am Friday. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm. STEWART -- James Craig Stewart, 43, a former resident of Albuquerque, Passed away suddenly, Friday, December 19, 2003 of a Pulmonary Thromboembolism, on his way to work in Austin, Tx. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Pat and Ed Coca of Albuquerque; his brothers, Donald E. Stewart and wife, MaryEllen of San Francisco, Ca, and Mark Coca and wife, Lisa of Albuquerque: his sister, Vicci Ann Simmons, Albuquerque: nieces, Stacy Bobbin and husband, Ryan; and great-niece, Claire, Albuquerque, Jennifer Coca, Phoenix, AZ. Stephanie Coca, Buffalo, WY, Priscilla Pina; and great-nephews, Thomas and Christopher , Portales, NM. Craig graduated from Monzano High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He had worked for the Austin American Statesmen for over 19 years at the time of his death. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Christian Fellowship Church, Juan Tabo NE and Menaul, with Pastor Tim Maxwell officiating. She was born December 26, 1908 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Heinrich Sommer and Nathalia Rebsch Sommer. Mrs. Thorsen was preceded in death by her husband, Thorvald . WINBLAD -- Alfred E. Winblad, 79, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2004. Born in Chicago, Illinois on October 17, 1924 he attended the University of Chicago before serving in the Army during World War II. He completed his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at the University of Arizona in Tuscon, where he also received an advanced degree in physics. He married Gladys Louise Reynolds in 1949. In 1952, they moved to Albuquerque where he worked at Sandia National Laboratories until 1990. He was a member of the VFW and contributed to many charities. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; sister, Betty Jones of Albuquerque; daughter, Donna Gordon of Orofino, Idaho; son, Doug of Rhinebeck, New York; and two grandchildren, Chrisanna Gordon of Boulder, CO and Shawna Gordon of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 4800 All Saints Road in Paradise Hills. YARBER -- David and Susan Yarber, longtime residents of Paradise Hills, died in an auto accident on Sunday, January 4, 2004. David and Susan, high school sweethearts, were married in South Gate CA on February 21, 1959. David worked for Public Service Co. of NM from 1959-1974, then for Albuquerque Police Dept. until he retired in 2000. David was a Grand Master of Masonic Lodge #6, a member of the Optimist Club, Data Processing Mgt. Assoc. and an advisor to Job Corps. Susan worked at Presbyterian Hospital from 1981-2003. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, served on the Paradise Hills Fire Dept, and was a member of Paradise Hills United Methodist Church where she was in the choir and served on the worship committee. David and Susan are survived by three sons and their families, Scott and Gina of Tijeras, Daniel of Albuquerque, Keith and Heather of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; two step - grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to their children, David is survived by four brothers, Nick Yarber Jr., Johnny, Steve, and Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Susan is survived by her mother, Lillian Dye of Albuquerque; and a sister, Becky of Nebraska. Susan was preceded in death by her father. Funeral services will be at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Hills Blvd at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2004. There will be a Masonic Burial Ceremony for David at Lodge #6, 3801 Osuna on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paradise Hills UMC.
