BROWN -- Gerald Jeremiah Brown, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully Monday, December 29, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Acton Brown of Albuquerque; daughter, Ellen Klinefelter of Rawlins, WY; sons, James Martin Brown of Suffolk, VA and Col. Thomas Acton Brown of Heidelburg, Germany; daughter, Megan Stevens of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Bernard Brown of Mountainaire, NM and Charles Brown of El Segundo, CA; and nephew, John Bergkvist of Albuquerque. Jerry was in the US Air Force for 30 years, retiring in 1970. Cremation has taken place and ennichement will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE at a later date. CHAVEZ -- Teddy Chavez, born in Albuquerque, NM on December 31, 1924, passed away on December 27, 2003, also in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Lucinda; his son Larry R. Chavez and wife, Oralia; daughters Diana Irene Becker and husband, John, and Alice B. Simms and husband, John; grandchildren Lori Ann Chavez-Sparks, Deanna Chavez-Sager, Rose Marie Chavez, Shawn, Carley & Jenny Becker and John Brian and Jeffrey Simms; great-grandchildren Amber Sparks, Jessie Keays, and Justin, Zachary, Jarrad and Alora Sager; sisters Angie Bringus and Lucy Tafoya; brother Leo Chavez; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose G. and Sylvestra Chavez, his sister Stella Chavez and two brothers who died in childhood, Richard and Leo. Ted grew up in Belen, NM where he worked in his father's general store until he enlisted in the Army at the start of World War II. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and fought throughout Europe and North Africa until the war's end. After the war he worked at Sandia National Labs where, as a skilled and valuable craftsman, he proudly contributed to many of the important projects at the Lab until his retirement in 1984. Ted loved to travel with Lucy and work in his yard and on his house. He was a meticulous craftsman and incredibly well organized. He took great pride in making useful things out of leftover materials and fixing anything that broke. His family would like to thank Dr. Paul E. Pierce for his kind patience and compassion; the doctors and staff at New Mexico Hematology and Oncology, especially Sylvia, Christine and Bernadette; the staff of Presbyterian Homecare and Hospice, especially, Laura Knight and Deacon Al McLane of The Shrine of St. Bernadette. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas NE, from 5:00 until the recitation of the Rosary begins at 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 2, 2003, at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. CLARK -- Ramona "Rae" Sachs Clark. The family of Rae Sachs Clark, who passed away on December 27, 2003, wishes to apologize for an oversight in the previous announcement stating her survivors. Rae was also survived by a loving brother, Ben Sachs and his wife, Erminda; their daughter, Lucinda and her husband, Lewis Real. He was a graduate of Highland H.S. and was a fan of Rock 'n Roll. GERDEMAN -- Glenda D. Gerdeman, age 77, of Las Vegas, NM died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Northeastern Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, NM. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas, Las Vegas Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Chapter AC P.E.O and from 1974 to 1981 she was executive secretary of the Viles Foundation Board, which awards grants to deserving young people in Northern New Mexico. Besides her husband of 55 years, Dale B. Gerdeman of Las Vegas, NM; two daughters, Diane Peters and her husband, Jeff of Chandler, AZ and Ellen Klein and her husband, Lonnie of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters, Shirley Willis and her husband, Rudolph of Truro, IA and Sandra Thompson and her husband, Barry of West, TX; two grandchildren, Scott Silva and his wife, Kelly of Scottsdale, AZ and Kara Ashcraft and her husband, Matt of Gilbert, AZ; and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Emily Ashcraft of Gilbert, AZ. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. Michelle Vetters at the First Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NM on Friday, January 2, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. The family requests that donations in her memory be made to the Las Cruces Symphony Educational Outreach Fund. GONZALES -- Cecilia L. Gonzales, 85, went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2003. She was born on November 28, 1918 in Placitas, New Mexico. Mrs. Gonzales had a very out going personality and had a great love for her family. GONZALES -- Rafaela Gonzales, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Irma Gonzales of Albuquerque and Lupe Contreras and husband Dennis of Concord, CA; sons, Daniel Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales, Robert Gonzales and wife Yvonne, Ralph Gonzales and wife Cindy, Rubin Gonzales, and Rick Gonzales and wife Denise, all of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister; and numerous brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Gonzales; and son, Ray Gonzales. Rafaela was a loving mother, had a big heart, and always spoke good of everyone. HORNE -- Helen Alice Horne was born in Gibson County, Indiana on October 29, 1913. She passed away on December 28, 2004 at the Medical Center in Muleshoe, TX. She had been living in the Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell, TX for the last seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemual and Floy Waters; her infant sister, Birdie Lucille; her daughter, Carolyn Riddle; her son, Tom Beckwith; and stepdaughter, Doris Hazlett. Helen is survived by her brother, Walter Waters; and sister, Martha Moore both of Mt. Vernon, IN; and her sister, Mary Strum of Morganfield, Ky; her son, Jim Beckwith and wife, Geraldine of Winters, TX; son, Steve Breeze and wife, Claudia of Edgewood, NM; stepdaughter, Mary Lou Feeney of Jonesville, MT; and stepdaughter, Jeanine Breeze of Evansville, IN also survive her. She also leaves 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends and acquaintances in Indiana, NM and Texas. Funeral Services will be held at First Spanish Fruit Ave. Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2003. HUGGINS -- Grace Barnes Welch Huggins of Las Cruces, beloved by her extended family and many friends, died peacefully on December 23, 2003. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Jean Welch Finley of Las Cruces, on December 18, 2003. Grace is survived by son T. Roger (Tony) Welch of El Paso, Texas and daughter Dr. Patsy Roberts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Les Finley of Las Cruces and former daughter-in-law Susan Welch of El Paso. Her former husband, Truman Welch of Las Cruces, also survives her. Surviving grandchildren include Renae Finley Griffin of Las Cruces; Jennifer Finley of Albuquerque, NM; Farrah Leigh Welch, Ashley Welch, Anthony Welch, and Lindsay Welch of El Paso; Lavonne Roberts, Mark Roberts, Eric Roberts, Brian Roberts, David Roberts, and Stacey Roberts. Her many great-grandchildren include area residents Justin Griffin and Jake Tannahill of Las Cruces, Megan Handley of Albuquerque and Tristan Welch of El Paso. Grace was the eldest child of a large and loving family. She was born July 3, 1921 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to John H. and Myrtle M. Barnes. Grace is survived by brothers and sisters: Otis L. Barnes and wife Nellie of Socorro, NM; Ruth Conn of Farmington, NM; Maxine Kimmel and husband Lester of Farmington; Nadine Willbourn of Carlsbad, NM; J.C. Barnes and wife Lynette of Dona Ana, NM; LaFern Arras and husband Dee of Arizona; Nancy McCullen of Amarillo, Texas; Wayne Barnes and wife Brenda of Las Cruces; Jack Barnes and wife Rella of El Paso and Joyce Welby of Houston, Texas. Long-time neighbors and dear friends, Felton and Virginia Springer of Las Cruces, also survive her, as do many other friends for whom Grace held special places in her heart. Grace came to Las Cruces 68 years ago with her family. She was part of the epic American migration. Originally headed for California, the Barnes family settled instead in Las Cruces. Grace married Truman W. Welch and they later brought their growing family to the coast of California during WWII, where she joined her husband in the war effort. Grace was employed in the shipyards as a welder, as were many of the "Rosie the Riveter" figures of her generation. After the war, she and her family returned to Las Cruces, where she began her career with AT&T/Mountain States Telephone Company as a switchboard operator, later assuming several supervisory positions before her retirement in the 1970s from SW Bell Telephone, after having also worked in El Paso and Ft. Smith. Grace will be fondly remembered for her lively wit at family functions, her mastery of many different handicrafts over the years, and her baking skills. She was famous for her beautiful pies and delicious homemade bread, which she generously shared with family and friends. Grace was active in the First Church of the Nazarene while living in Las Cruces and in St. Mark's Church in El Paso. After she retired, Grace worked in the St. Mark's Church nursery, caring for children of parishioners, whom she called her "little angels." In later years, she followed their progress with pride and interest. Grace truly cared for people who were part of her life and she will be missed by all. She will be deeply remembered by her grandchildren for her love and guidance and the special care she showed in choosing their gifts for Christmas and birthdays. Pursuant to Grace's wishes, cremation has taken place. Services for Grace will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1900 South Locust Street in Las Cruces. Interment of the cremains will follow at Masonic Cemetery. After interment, a reception will be held at Grace's home, 4990 Arena Drive in Las Colinas, where family and friends may share their treasured memories of Grace. JARVIS -- Roger B. (1928-2003) A great void has been left in our lives with the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Roger B. Jarvis (Popsy), who left us on December 25, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Bertha Jarvis. His distinguished military career included service in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and service in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his retirement from the military, he worked as a computer analyst in the Information Systems and Technology Division of General Dynamics in San Diego, California. Several years later, while still employed at General Dynamics, he met his loving wife, Connie, whom he lovingly referred to as "Mi Cielo". After retiring from public employment, he bought an RV and he and his wife set off to see the entire USA, plus a great many sights outside the country, as well. Although RV-ing soon became a passion, his greatest passion was singing with a barbershop chorus. He was a member of The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) and sang with the San Diego Sun Harbor Chorus in San Diego and with the New MexiChords in Albuquerque. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in San Diego, California; and, the Masonic Temple Lodge #6 and Shrine Ballut Abyad Temple, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Besides his wife Connie, he is survived by his daughter, Becky and husband, Robert; his brother, Kenneth Jarvis; his stepchildren, Connie Martinez-Goodwin and husband, Robert, Agatha Martinez- Garrison, Louella Martinez-Gonzales, Tim Martinez, and Pamela Morton and husband, Richard; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 02, 2004 in the Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal S.E. The Reverend Dave Blackwell officiating.

KNIGHT -- Joe T. Knight, Age 76, passed into the Lord's hands on December 28, 2003. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois O. Knight, daughter Beverly L. Schifani and husband Joseph G. Schifani, granddaughter, Faith Schifani, son Brian D. Knight and wife Claudia A. Knight all of Albuquerque. Additional survivors include Joe's younger brother William M. Knight and wife Glyneth A. Knight of Lubbock, TX, as well as numerous cousins. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Bertram D. Knight and Gertrue E. Knight, both of Childress, TX. He was born in Childress, TX on January 21, 1927. He was raised in Childress, TX and served in the U. S. Army during World War II as well as the Air Force Reserve for several years following the war. In 1948, Joe relocated to Albuquerque, NM and he retired from the U. S. Department of Energy in 1983, having completed 35 years of service as a Quality Electrical Engineer. Following his retirement from DOE, Joe joined Sandia Consultants, Inc. as a Consultant and he traveled extensively throughout the United States in both of his careers. In 1948, Joe also became licensed as an Amateur Radio Operator. He was highly active and dedicated to Amateur Radio from that time forward. He held the Amateur Radio Call Sign of W5PDY which he referred to phonetically as W5 "Pretty Darn Young" and his wife Lois presently holds the call sign of KC5CXO. Joe was extremely involved in New Mexico Search and Rescue operations and served as the New Mexico Section Manager for the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) for 27 years. An old-time member of the Sandia Base Radio Club and the Albuquerque Amateur Radio Club, Joe assisted in organizing the Amateur Radio Caravan Club and was its first Emergency Caravan Master. He also helped establish the Upper Rio FM Society, having served as President and Board Member. Joe was a Charter Member of the Albuquerque Chapter of the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA) as well as the Albuquerque DX Association and a Life Member of QCWA, ARRL and the Upper Rio FM Society. He was a member of numerous Amateur Radio Clubs and Nets throughout the Southwest and had a special interest in the New Mexico Radio Collectors Club. Joe was a pioneer in the creation of the Atomic Museum. He served as Vice President/Board Member of the ALO Employees Federal Credit Union. For the past 55 years Joe was a member of Central United Methodist Church having served as a board member and usher. He was also a Life Member of Hiram Lodge #13 A.F. & A.M, served as a board member and Rainbow Dad for Albuquerque Chapter #20 of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, and, for the past several years, served as a volunteer at the Albuquerque VA Hospital. Joe Knight truly left the rest of us a legacy, mainly, "serve others before yourself" with his philanthropic desire to assist others. LUCAS -- Urith May Lucas passed away peacefully on December 28, 2003. Born in Lexington Kentucky, she chose to make Albuquerque her home for over 50 years. She was a writer for the Albuquerque Tribune for over 25 years. She was married to renowned violinist, Robert Allison. She is survived by a niece and nephews all of whom reside out of state. RIGEL -- Mary Kathryn Rigel, 91, of Chalmette, LA. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt went to her heavenly home Sunday, December 14, 2003. She was born February 28, 1912 in Windsor, CO. Mrs. Rigel resided in Albuquerque from 1990 to 2000. At the time of her death, she resided at Sloans Sonshine Home in Chalmette, LA. She loved life and was a great story teller. While in Albuquerque, she enjoyed Thursday meetings with her friends, "The Golden Girls". Survivors are two daughters, Georgia M. Davis and husband, Bob of Albuquerque and Mary Jane Bordelon and husband, Tommy and Mary Jane's former husband, Philip J. Dragon all of Violet, LA; three sons, James D. (Bud) Rigel and wife, Lena of Albuquerque, William B. Rigel and wife, LeAnn of Lutz, FL and Robert E. Rigel of Oakland, CA; two brothers, Harry Jacoby and wife, Buelah of LaSalle, CO and Rueben Jacoby and wife, Betty of Johnstown, CO; nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services were held December 18, 2003 in Greeley, CO. Interment was at the Johnstown, CO Cemetery. SAUCEDO SR. -- Philip T. Saucedo, Sr., 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1998, died suddenly at the Heart Hospital of NM, Sunday, December 28, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Saucedo of Albuquerque; daughter, Martha Bennetts of Albuquerque; son, Phil Saucedo, Jr and wife, Renee of Albuquerque; daughters, Lisa Mauricio and husband, Roy of South Bend, IN and Stephanie Luchetti and husband, Mike of Katy, TX; eight grandchildren, Thomas Bennetts, Rebekah Burton, Maxx and Valerie Saucedo, Isabel, Dante, and Trae Mauricio, and Marissa Luchetti; brothers, Gabe Saucedo, Jr of Gallup, NM, Jimmy Saucedo of Kirtland, NM, and Johnny Saucedo of Gallup, NM and Lorraine Saucedo of Henderson, NV; brother-in-law, Vern Mellinger of Gallup, NM; mother-in-law, Ann Meese of Gallup, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabe and Clara Saucedo; brother, Charlie Saucedo; and sister, Janet Marcelli. Mr. Saucedo was born and raised in Gallup, NM. "Bear" graduated from Gallup High School in 1958. Mr. Saucedo was a member of the Elks and he coached summer league baseball in Gallup for many years. He was also a member of Annunciation Parish and NM Army National Guard. Phil loved his family, friends, and fishing buddies, and most of all, his wife, Mary Lou. SHEAFFER -- Franklin M. Sheaffer, Age 73, of Albuquerque, passed away on November 27, 2003. Franklin was retired from the U.S. Air Force, and spent time in both Korea and Thailand. He is survived by a brother, Clifford Ward, and sister, Sharon Ward, of E. Petersburg, PA as well as three sons, Jeffery Ludwig of Santa Fe, Frank Sheaffer of Albuquerque, and David Sheaffer of Murfreesboro, TN. A service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery is scheduled for January 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. May he rest in peace.

SILVA -- Annie T. Silva, "Our Queen Mother", age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 29, 2003, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was a long time resident of Bernalillo, New Mexico. Annie was preceded in death by her husband Tony Silva and she is survived by her two loving daughters, Teresa Fielding and husband Al, Priscilla Baldonado and her late husband Marcial; her beloved grandchildren, Anthony Baldonado and wife Olivia, Rosanna Montoya-Duran and husband Joseph, Ann Michelle Gonzales and husband Patrick, Rick Montoya and wife Roxie, Eric Baldonado and wife Margaret, Audrey Fielding and Andy Ramirez; her precious great grandchildren, Jonathan Baldonado and fiancee Stephanie, Jessica Baldonado and husband Eddy, Cassandra Montoya, Jenise Gonzales and Cecilia Ramirez. Also surviving are her beloved brother, Elias Trujillo and wife Sarita; her blessed sister Ora Correa; several half brothers and sisters; her special friend Bert Graff and numerous nieces and nephews. TATE -- Sandra Darlene "Sandy" of Pontiac, MI; suddenly December 13, 2003; age 59; mother of Steven (Jeannette) Tate of Albuquerque, NM; grandmother of Jennifer Tate, Vanessa, Eugene and David; also survived by three great-grandchildren; daughter of Edith (the late Leibern) Lockwood.
