ACOSTA -- Petra Acosta, 68, passed away October 11, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Corrales and a member of San Ysidro Catholic Church. Petra was preceded in death by her son Tony Acosta and is survived by her husband of 51 years, Rudy Acosta; children Frank Acosta and wife Anna, Patsy Reed and husband Yoggi, Raymond Acosta and wife Irene, George Acosta, Leroy Acosta, Jo Ann Acosta; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Archibeque, Bertha Lovato, and other family members and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Services will be held at San Ysidro Parish is Corrales. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2003. BATTIS -- Joan "Joni" Eleanor Battis, age 66, passed away on October 6, 2003 after a long, hard, brave battle with cancer and post bone-marrow transplant complications. Joni was born May 1, 1937 and lived many years in the Cleveland, Ohio area with her first husband, Roger Baker. She has since resided in Kent, WA and Albuquerque, NM for 24 years with her second husband, Ralph. She has been a loving wife to Ralph and a loving gentle stepmother to Karen Spencer, and Jeff and Craig Battis. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Samuel Joseph Battis and Christopher Spencer; by her brother, Bob Spyak and wife, Eleanor; and by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Joni was an active sports woman - golf, tennis, skiing and running. She gave freely of her time to her large circle of friends and loved ones. Dearly loved, sorely missed and now with God. BUCKHOLTS -- Walter. Cdr. Walter Howell Buckholts, Jr. USN (Ret), died on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 from complications due to cancer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife Dona Lynn Buckholts of Albuquerque; his son, Walter Howell Buckholts, III and his wife Margarita (Peggy); grandson, William Christopher Buckholts; and granddaughter, Whitney Cari Buckholts of Dolores, Colorado; his daughter, Carrie Buckholts Belichick and her husband Frank and granddaughter, Hattie Mavis Belichick of Eagle Nest, New Mexico. Walter (Hal) was born on March 18, 1928 in Oklahoma City, OK. He grew up in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. He graduated from Waurika High School and went on to Central State College in Edmond Oklahoma. "Buck" was a career Naval Officer and Aviator with 27 years of service to his country. He joined the Navy in 1950 and earns his wings in 1952. He was stationed across the country and traveled the Pacific rim with squadron attachments to several carriers. He was an Instructor of Naval History at the University of Missouri, was with a helicopter squadron that flew search and rescue missions during the Viet Nam War and was an Intelligence Officer during the cold war. Buck retired to Albuquerque, NM in July of 1978. During his retirement, summers were spent in Colorado. Buck was an accomplished woodworker, fly-fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was a long time bonsai enthusiast and was active in the Albuquerque Bonsai Society. He also was active on The Albuquerque Council for International Visitors. CAMPBELL -- Meland B. Campbell, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, October 11, 2003. She is survived by her sons, Michael Campbell and wife Linda of Albuquerque, and Leslie Campbell and wife Nancy of Tempe, AZ; step-sons, Ilo G. Campbell and wife Purificacion of Arlington, MA and Jerry Campbell and wife Barbara of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Jaime Campbell of Albuquerque, Jodi Ward and husband Eric of Fort Mead, MD, and Alexander Pegues of Albuquerque; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Helen Ward; and former daughter-in-law Ann McGarrah. She is preceded in death by her husband Ilo Campbell and her great granddaughter Laura Ward. Meland was born and raised in Corsicana Texas. She attended and graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Following graduation Meland held various positions in the federal government, working in Washington, DC, Cincinnati, Oklahoma City and Amarillo, Texas. Meland and Ilo were married in Amarillo, Texas on July 30, 1950. They moved to Albuquerque in 1954. Meland returned to the workforce in 1959, as office manager for the orthodontic group of Dr. Bleuher, King and Lutz, retiring in 1976. CARPENTER -- Carl S. Carpenter, 87, a resident of Belen, New Mexico and formerly of Bosque Farms, New Mexico passed away in an Albuquerque hospital on Thursday October 9, 2003. Carl was a member of the Catholic Church and a long time member of the Elks Lodge, #2499. Carl founded C. C. School and Church Equipment, Inc. in 1981, now known as School Equipment, Inc., retiring in 1985. Carl was an avid gardener and was well known for his lush gardens that he grew every year. He loved the outdoors and loved fishing. Many times Carl and his friends would go for drives to see and be in the great outdoors. The Jemez Mountains and the Valle Grande in Northern New Mexico were very dear to him and he would go there just for the majestic feeling he would get when he was there. He also loved seeing all the wildlife the mountains would present to him and his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 1998; and his parents, John and Kathryn Carpenter. He is survived by two sons, Bob Caldwell and his wife, Patti of Akron, Ohio, and Rick Caldwell and his wife, Jenie of Los Alamitos, California; one brother, John L. Carpenter and his wife, Helen of Bethany, Oklahoma; his grandchildren and many other family members. Carl is also survived by his loving caregiver, Lucille Moyers-Hodge of Belen, New Mexico and his very close friends and neighbors, Gary "Sonny" McNabb and his wife, Lillie of Bosque Farms, New Mexico. Carl was such a people person that many loving and dear friends also survive him. Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Terrace Grove Cemetery, with his loving caregiver, Lucille Moyers-Hodge officiating and Linda Julian singing some of Carl's favorite hymns. CROUCH -- Rebecca Bates Crouch passed away unexpectedly in Albuquerque, on October 8, 2003. She was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, On December 7, 1956. Becky served in the United States Army in Germany as a medic and emergency medical technician where she was also a member of the Army ski team. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from the University of New Mexico. She practiced nursing in Angel Fire and Albuquerque. She was an avid skier and golfer, practitioner of herbal healing, horsewoman, and photographer. Becky is survived by her daughter, Cassie Bennett; her mother, Mary G. Bates, Her Father Robert I. Crouch; and her brother, Gene R. Crouch. Funeral Arrangements are pending in Pecos, Texas. A memorial service celebrating her life will be announced at a later date. FIMPLE -- Margaret "Peggy" Fimple, 75, died October 9, 2003, at her home in Greeley, Colorado. She was born October 7, 1928, in Buffalo, New York, to Charles Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Morrison) Gilbert. On April 13, 1955, she was married to Dale Fimple, in Erie Pennsylvania. She was reared and educated at Buffalo. She moved to Rochester, N.Y. where she worked for Eastman Kodak. After their marriage, they moved to Albuquerque, living there for 29 years. They moved to Greeley in 1997. She attended the Greeley Wesleyan Church, where she was an active volunteer with church youth programs. While in New Mexico, she was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority. She was active in the Greeley Assistance League and volunteered at the Union Colony Civic Center, for the past six years. She is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Ken Crumb, Greeley; Son and Daughter-in-law, Michael and Valerie Fimple of Albuquerque; Grandchildren Gregory Corban, Christopher J Fimple, Misty D Fimple Nathan Crumb and wife Alexis, Joshua Crumb, and Tara Crumb. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally and a son, Eddie. Memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, from Adamson Memorial West Chapel. Cremation. GUTIERREZ -- Barbara Gutierrez passed away Friday in her Albuquerque home. She was born May 25, 1922. Barbara was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and an officer of the Auxiliary American Legion. She was a wonderful care giver and very charitable with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Estella Montoya and Ignacio Gutierrez, brothers Ignacio Jr., Raymond, Robert. Her sisters Nickolasa Gallegos, and Juanita Sandoval. She is survived by her brothers Jose Manuel Gutierrez, and Diego Gutierrez, Several Godchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. She was a loving person that will be truly missed. Pall bears will be Ray Gutierrez Jr, Michael Gutierrez, Ignacio Gallegos, Robert Gutierrez Jr and Richard Gutierrez and Randy Garcia. GUTIERREZ -- Daniel R. Gutierrez, 32, passed away in Albuquerque October 8, 2003. He is survived by his three sons, Sabe Gutierrez, Jordan Gutierrez, and Noah Gutierrez; his loving parents, Leroy and Janet Jaramillo; his grandmother, Flora Lopez; his Godparents, Steve and Kathy Lopez; his caring uncles and aunts, Fidel and Loretta Lopez, Steven Lopez, Marlene Quintana and Lorena Trujillo. Daniel will be greatly missed by all of his cousins, and all of his fantastic fellow employees at T-Mobile. Daniel was a member of Holy Rosary Parish and an outstanding father to his sons. HUDSON -- Yvonne Ande Hudson, 35 of Edgewood passed away at Kaseman Presbetryian Hospice Saturday, October 4, 2003 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her son, Brian Vincent of Edgewood; mother, Lina Hudson of Clever, Mo; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Christine Hudson; and her two nephews, Jacob and Ryan all of Edgewood. She is also survived by her aunt, Lily J. Martinez of Cerrillos NM; cousins, Mark Mc Hugh of Las Vegas Nevada, James Martinez of Albuquerque and Geraldo Martinez of Wagon Mound NM; uncle, Robert Martinez of Mechnicsville Virgina. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles M. Hudson; uncles, Henry and Roger Martinez; and her maternal and partenal grandparents, Henry and Fedencia Martinez and Charles L Hudson all of Wagon Mound, NM. Yvonne loved horses of all breeds and was also an avid horsewoman. MILLER -- Darci Deanne Miller was born in Armour, SD., July 12, 1970. She had a great love for her daughter, Rebecca, the outdoors, and all animals. Darci enriched her family's lives for 33 years, and she will be greatly missed. POTTER -- Bruce. Rev. E. Bruce Potter, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, died at his home on September 25, 2003. He is survived by his son, Dennis Potter and wife, Mary Ann of Albuquerque and their children, Andrew and Kari. He is also survived by his daughter Christine Potter and husband, John Pope of Boulder, CO and their daughter, Robin; brother, Warren Potter of Napa, CA; and sister, Joan Irwin and husband, Joe of Phelan, CA. Rev. Potter received his Divinity Degree from the San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1954 and was ordained and served in the Presbyterian Church before retiring in 1962. He earned a PhD in Education in 1968 from the University of New Mexico and was an Associate Dean at UNM until his retirement in 1994. Bruce enjoyed photography, square and round dancing, and traveling with his longtime friend, Peggy Valdez. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be Friday, October 17, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE with Rev. Tom Hart, officiating. REYNOLDS -- Irene Barber Reynolds, died Monday, October 6, 2003, after an illness of several months. She was born June 21, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan. Her parents were Charles H. Barber and Una Kingsbury Barber. When Irene was 13 the family moved from Lansing to Nanking, China, where her father was a U.S. Army officer attached to the U.S. Embassy. Her mother taught in the American School in Nanking. After the Communist takeover of China, the family moved to Albuquerque, where Irene graduated from Albuquerque High. She discovered her great love, the earth, at UNM where she majored in geology and mathematics. She was an excellent student, being named to the Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Mu Epsilon and Sigma Gamma Epsilon honorary scholastic fraternities. She went on to earn her master’s degree in geology at Columbia University. She worked as a geologist for several companies and became a consulting geologist in Albuquerque in 1965. She was a member of several geologic societies and was an officer of the Albuquerque Geological Society and the New Mexico Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists. She is survived by her husband, Charles B. Reynolds; daughter, Mary Davidson and husband, Charles; granddaughters, Emily and Laurel Davidson, all of Tijeras; sons, Thomas Reynolds of Las Vegas, NV and Douglas Bolich of Santa Fe; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Sanchez; and grandsons, Jordan and Devin Bolich of Santa Fe. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Friday, 3:30 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. RICKMAN -- Joseph Rickman of Lovington, N.M., died peacefully in the presence of loved ones on September 23, 2003, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, N.M. He was 79. He was a beloved educator who used his teaching talents to inspire students in many New Mexico communities throughout his career. Joseph Rickman was born on September 19, 1924, in Cassopolis, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in combat in the European theater. He later received his bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He married Geneah (Jeanne) Rickman in 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. Joseph Rickman began his teaching career in 1951 in Cherokee, Iowa. In 1958, he and his family moved to Eunice, N.M., where he taught science at Eunice Junior High School. In 1967, he and his family moved to Los Alamos, N.M. At Los Alamos, he delighted students at Cumbres Junior High School for six years with an energetic teaching style that included memorable hands-on lessons in chemistry, biology and the Earth sciences. He also coached intramural football at the junior high. During the 1970s and 1980s, he taught in Questa, N.M., and Des Moines, N.M. He also taught culinary arts at the Northern New Mexico Community College in Espaola, N.M. Later in his life he worked as a corrections officer at the Penitentiary of New Mexico in Santa Fe. After retiring from teaching, he made jewelry and pottery as a hobby. He later moved to Lovington, N.M., where he married Geraldine Rickman. Lovington remained his home until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, John Rickman of California. He is survived by his brothers, James Rickman and Garrett Rickman, of California; former wife, Geneah Rickman, of Los Alamos, N.M.; son, Rick Rickman and wife, Marla, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and their children, Dillon Rickman and Sloane Rickman; son, Joel Rickman and wife, Jamey, of Las Cruces, N.M.; son, James Rickman and companion, Caroline Spaeth, of Los Alamos, N.M.; wife, Geraldine Rickman, of Lovington, N.M.; step-daughter, Lisa Braggs, of Roswell, N.M., and her three children, who regarded Joseph as a wonderful grandfather. A Funeral Service was held on September 27, 2003, in Lovington, N.M., prior to his burial at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Lagrone Funeral Home in Roswell, N.M.

RUTLEDGE -- Richard Martin Rutledge, Jr. passed away September 22, 2002, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at age 77. He is survived by his son, Rick Rutledge and wife, Nova and their three children, of Austin, Texas; his daughter, Cecelia Hay and husband, Scott and their two children, of Edmonton, Canada; his sister, Susanne Sarron and her three children, of San Diego, California; his niece, Robin Field and husband, Randy and their two children, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and his brother-in-law, Mac Collins of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Richard was a resident of Canada for the past two years, and was a vital and close part of his daughter's family. Richard loved spending time at a lake at the Shuswap in Canada. The family will be coming together to celebrate Canada's Thanksgiving day, October 13, 2003, and will sprinkle his ashes at that time in the lake. Before moving to Canada, Richard lived in Albuquerque for about ten years where he acquired a number of friends and acquaintances. We so enjoyed the time we had with him here and he will be deeply missed by all of us.

SAUNIER -- Albert F. Saunier, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1972, came to New Mexico from Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. Albert was born September 29, 1920 the son of Frank and Julia Mary Frank Saunier in Harrisburg, Ohio. He had been a carpenter and had worked for AMREP for over 20 years before retiring. Albert was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He belonged to the Men's Bowling League. His family was his main hobby. He loved to play cards, horseshoes and gardening. Al was a model of respect and honor. Al was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Mary L. Saunier; three children, Nancy Cordova and the late Frank Cordova, Ray Saunier and wife, Julie, and Jim Saunier and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Randy, Tammy, Craig, Brian, Shannon, Deanna, Chris, Jennifer, Jimmy and Justin and their spouses; and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry Saunier; numerous nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful uncle. A special Thank You to Presbyterian Hospice for all their care and loving support. The Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. SODOS -- AnJa Sodos, 53, resident of Albuquerque since 1980 died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 in Haleiwa, Hawaii after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by husband, Ron; and daughters, Yukiko and Miki. AnJa was born in Tokyo, Japan and traveled to America alone at 19. She met Ron in Hawaii and October 7, 2003 would have been their 31st anniversary. She will be deeply missed by the family and a multitude of friends, neighbors and co-workers. AnJa was a registered nurse at the University Hospital and was dedicated to patient care. Everyone who met her knew her as the gentle soul that she was. WALKER -- Igrid A. Walker, died October 6, 2003. Born October 27, 1938 in Eschollbrucken, Germany she grew up and lived most of her childhood in a small village. On December 3, 1958 she married Stan Walker, an American Air Force airman. They moved to New Mexico, USA and raised two sons, Mike and Roy, living in cities in both New Mexico and Texas. Ingrid was an incredible cook. She baked cheesecakes for local restaurants for the enjoyment of their customers. An accomplished artist, she created hand beaded and sequined Christmas stockings for many friends. For the past three years, her work has won first place ribbons at the New Mexico State Fair. Her greatest treasures were her granddaughters, Lacey and Natalie. Oma was a very devoted grandmother whom found great joy in spoiling her grandchildren. Her loving spirit will remain with us forever. Surviving are her husband, Stan Walker; her son Mike Walker and his wife, Kerry; and two grandchildren, Lacey and Natalie Walker; sisters Elisabeth Schocker, and Tilly Wick. Her son, Roy Walker, preceded her in death. Ingrid will be buried in Eschollbrucken, Germany along side her relatives. Funeral services at the village church will be scheduled at a later date. WEDDELL -- George. Lt. Col. Ret., USAF George Frederick Weddell, 86, died Saturday, October 11, 2003. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1969. He is survived by sons, Peter Weddell and wife, Michelle of Hemet, CA and Douglas Weddell and wife, Dina McElley of Livermore, CA; daughters, Chris Mullins and husband, Darrell of Portales, NM and Suzanne Smith and husband, Steve of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Chandler Weddell, Scott Weddell, Jana Beck, Jeff Weddell, Nik McElley, Nicole Smith and Jacqueline Smith; great-grandchildren, Olivia Weddell and Claire Weddell; sister, Mary Meehan of Banning, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Weddell. George served in the Army and Air Force for over 30 years in Newfoundland, Hawaii, Korea, Thailand and stateside. He retired in 1971 as a Lt. Col. in the Defense Atomic Support Agency at Kirtland Air Force Base. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held Monday, October 13, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2903 19th Ave., Rio Rancho with Fr. Walt Smith, officiating. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
